When it first opened, I was excited to try out grano. However, after looking at the menu, I didn't notice the Italian staples that I am used to in the area. Fortunately, Chef Armando has come to the rescue and introduced some Italian favorites that are right up my alley. Went for dinner a few nights ago and the meal was outstanding. Perfect portions and delicious homemade pasta. Service was also really great. I will definitely be back! Another home run by one of the best Italian chefs in Schenectady. Ate dinner at Grano tonight. It was absolutely delicious! We have eaten at many of the area's Italian restaurants but the Grano's sauce was excellent, surpassing all others. I had the shrimp fra diavolo and my husband had the cavatelli with sausage and broccoli rabe. Both were superb. Great service, great food and beautiful spot. read more

Really disappointed that their website says they are open at 4:00 but when we got there, there was a sign outside that they are open at 5:00 Tues through Friday. This is the 3rd time a restaurant's website was out of date. There's no excuse to not have the correct information on line. I know COVID has been hard but it's pretty inconsiderate and that can be updated easily. read more

Upon referral of the helpful rep @ Proctors gave this place a try & was very pleased with the food, ambiance & service. Food is cooked to order with great care so if you are in a rush this is not the place for you! Selections were bountiful & chef is totally willing to accommodate tweaking of dishes such as my request for sauce on the side & friends request for asparagus cooked well. There were clever seasonal drink & food specials & availed myself of the tasty fall Cosmo:) We each ordered a small dish for appetizer & they were well small:) The 3 shrimp were excellent, the 4 fritters were actually fritter balls & in my opinion rather plain but friend really enjoyed them. I ordered the main Salmon which was excellent & friend the Pasta w mushrooms which she likewise enjoyed (attaching photo of main menu for specifics) We shared a seasonal panicotta flavored w squash & cinnamon which was great. Server was very attentive & patient w all our questions. Decor is an attractive combination of brick, wood & modern. I recommend either of the back 2 rooms in the chilly weather due to in & out in front room. Place is surprisingly large. We stopped here as we were passing thru in an attempt to beat a snowstorm and were not disappointed. We love to read Yelp reviews and let them help guide us to our destinations, and are so glad we were led to Grano! Attentive and friendly staff made this amazingly delicious meal even better. I started with Utica greens which had the perfect balance of spices to green, and are something we just can't get at home. The $25 four course dinner was unbelievable and we topped it off with cheesecake and cannoli! If Schenectady is on your radar, make sure to stop by. You won't regret it! I am giving a 3 star to be kind but after this experience they should get only one. Ordered two Chilean sea bass dinners and one had four giant dental pick-like bones in it, each were at least 2 inches long and 1/8 inch wide. This is unacceptable and dangerous! One small bone, ok, but not 4 of this size! I talked to the server about it and was brushed off. Then talked to the manager and was brushed off again sayin "well that happens" as he walked away. I got a better response from the person clearing the plates who identified the issue as a justifiable problem and said she would bring it to the attention of the chef. Other than that there were no offers to make good for the poor prep on an expensive fish that could have caused serious damage if bones of that size became lodged in someone's throat. I paid the full bill, walked out past the manager who made eye contact and intentionally ignored me. Very poor way to handle a complaint and a sure way to lose business. read more

Made a reservation for dinner at 5:30...restaurant was not busy at all and was actually looking forward to a date night (much needed since we do t get out very often with busy schedules) after seeing an amazing show at Proctors! Got seated right away but waited almost 20 minutes before being greeted by a waitress...Waitress was not only waiting on tables but also working behind the bar as well...very busy night with a lot to take on...we ordered at 6:26 and are still sitting here waiting for the food...3 other tables got sat after us and needless to say are enjoying their meals already...waitress apologized but manager/owner just came over and said pasta for that dish takes a little longer than normal...didn't offer any type of compensation which I find very surprising because any type of business these days need loyal costumers or to feel as though they are appreciated in some way for their business...things aren't cheap anymore...just got the bill and nothing done...very dissatisfied and won't be back! read more

My new favorite!!!! Went on opening night. Food and service was top notch! All familiar faces, Frank(from Marrotta's greeting you, to an ex-waiter from Lombardo's, working tables). Pasta is homemade, Italian Ciabatta bread is fresh & warm, served with butter. The 2 Apps were The Stack, with a perfectly fried eggplant slice included and the fried Calamari was outstanding, served with a slightly sweetened marinara sauce. Mains were Pasta with Little Neck Clams in red sauce. Had some bite from the chilis. Flavor was on point! Worthy of bread dunking....Yum! Spouse had Bolognese. Another great dish! Waitress was wonderful helping explain unusual names of pastas. We did not order dessert. Ordered 2 rounds of red wines, all nominally priced. This restaurant is going to be a huge hit! Kitchen speed needs to be tightened up but, going on opening night that was to be expected. On the way out, you can purchase the homemade pasta in the case. Food was decent, but nothing outstanding compared to the extensive list of Italian and Mediterranean restaurants in the area - especially given the local levels of Italian heritage. Would be a solid 4 star restaurant if it wasn't for the atrocious service. Took well over an hour and a half of sitting to get our meals, and 2 and a half hours for the full meal. Our server didn't even ask about what salad dressing we wanted on our salads or remember we were celebrating my wife's 30th birthday even after mentioning it multiple times. The bus staff was outstanding and carried the weight of the deficient serving staff. The owner needs to seriously reevaluate their waitstaff and especially whomever manages them if they want to compete among the restaurants in this area. If your reading this and looking for a nice dinner, go to The Nest down the street instead - it runs circles around Grano both in service and food quality at a similar price point and you will be far more satisfied with your choice. read more

The banana cream pie is the best we have ever had. Otherwise, our dining experience was disappointing. Soon after we sat down one of my dining companions asked a member of the wait staff if there were any gluten free options. She looked confused and then stated "I think everything we serve is gluten free". Clearly that was ludicrous at an Italian restaurant so we just thanked her and resumed looking at the menu ourselves. One person in our party told our server that she has a dairy allergy. She ordered only a salad to be safe and asked to add grilled shrimp to make it more of a meal. They accommodated that, however she got very ill later that night and we do believe there was dairy in her salad. Maybe butter on the shrimp? My house salad was nothing special. I found the spaghetti with white clam sauce way too salty and couldn't eat more than half of it. Tea and coffee were delivered without spoons or any mention of them. Spoons were dropped off a couple of minutes later, but by then we had used clean forks to stir our hot drinks. Overall, no one who interacted with us seemed very friendly or knowledgeable and the food wasn't great. I will not be returning. read more
