We had a reservation for restaurant week. It being Monday, we didn't expect it to be super crowded, but it was very empty. The building itself is reason enough to eat here. It is a historical landmark and the details inside are gorgeous. Our server was so kind. I know how hard it is sometimes when it is dead, but she made us feel so welcome. I had the ruby red trout and shrimp scampi that was made perfectly along with the maple bacon ice cream for dessert that made for a great end to a perfect night. I will start with the positives. Its a beautiful elegant place for dinner and the food is expensive but delicious. The one star rating was for the service. I was at a table of 8 they were all served their meals. Mine didnt come. She said sorry it will be a couple of minutes. 15 min later back again....a couple of minutes. After 40 mins my table was done eating and felt terrible I wasnt served. We were going to the theater so we had to go. Our waitress named Stacy walks up with the plate. I said we are done put it in a to go I wont be able to eat before the show. She said sorry the order was wrong I will take it off your bill. I said great but that doesn't make up for you telling me every 15 minutes its on the way. She said and I quote " I am done talking to you I have nothing to say I already said sorry". We had Sunday Brunch, which is all you can eat, with a group of 7 including 2 kids. Our reservation was for 10:30 & it was already packed. I'm pretty sure reservations are necessary unless you want to wait. They have various food stations around the room & inside the Gandy Dancer Saloon. I advise walking around the room and looking at every food station before you actually get a plate and decide what you will eat. The most unique things that they have our freshman donuts, and they do have a chocolate dipping fountain. My Bloody Mary was not very good, but the food was decent. It is $42 for adults & $25 kids under 12, which ain't cheap, but you can stuff your face on prime rib, ham, turkey, lunch, breakfast & dinner fare, salads & desserts. When we walked in, we loved the look of the restaurant - the old school train station was in full effect. We were seated on the back side of the restaurant, closest to the water with a view of the Smithfield Bridge, which was nice. Our server was good, but he was definitely overwhelmed. After we were seated, it took a bit of time for our server to come up to get our drink order. When our drinks finally came, our waiter made a joke about how he "didn't skip town", but the bartender is just really busy. I got a "classy lady". It didn't look like the picture and definitely left a lot to be desired taste wise. Later on, I got a "new fashioned". It was better than the first drink, but still only okay. Our appetizer was probably the quickest thing to come out. We ordered the firecracker shrimp. It was probably the best part of the meal. For an entree I ordered the apple jack sea bass and my husband ordered the dynamite Mahi Mahi. While both of our fish were cooked correctly, they were just overall bland. The risotto that came with my fish was inedible. It tasted like it was left over from the night before. The rice that came with the Mahi was basically just plain white rice. For some reason we decided to get dessert. The creme brulee had a cream cheese consistency. We had one taste and that was enough. Overall, I'm honestly pretty disappointed. I understand staffing is an issue, but that shouldn't mean that the food has no flavor and is old. It should just mean that everything is very slow. read more

This establishment has earned it's five stars. My daughter reserved our 10 family member group for the Easter Brunch. We were seated with in 15 minutes, we had a 3:15 reservation. Our wait staff was quick to take our drink orders. Food was hot and fresh and delicious. A great variety of main courses and sides. Many fish options which our family loved. Prime Rib, Fish, Salmon, Chicken. Potatoes, Rice, Several Salads, Mac and Cheese. The desserts were amazing. We will definitely return to this establishment. Parking was easy as well. I brought a group of people in for brunch on Sunday and told them how amazing the place is... Well we arrived and barely had our first plate of food when I assume a chef? (He had a chef uniform on and was bald) Started just screaming at the employees like he was unhinged or something, it was honestly very scary. Simply delightful . The family and a guest came down here for dinner to celebrate an occasion for our daughter and we couldn't of been happier . It was a Monday night and the restaurant did not seem very busy in the least but it made for a nice time. We had the filet and salmon - phenomenal! The temperature was done perfect - true steakhouse temps ! My daughter isn't a huge asparagus fan but somehow ended up eating everything on her plate with complete satisfaction( potatoe croquettes were done perfect ). We ended the meal with a couple chocolate cakes and the bread pudding , both delicious. We couldn't resist but to get a photo on their steps , such a beautiful atmosphere . The interior of this building is, of course, beautiful. It appeared that a lot of the seating was "half booth" with a couple of chairs on the outside. The booth seating is extremely low. My friend and I (both 5'7), felt like we were two little kids at the adult table. We asked if there were cushions available to boost us up, but this restaurant does not have any. Our food was good, however, my sparkling wine was completely flat. Large glass of fruit juice. Our waitress was just okay. We waited forever for bread. First - very accommodating team when calling to say running a few minutes behind schedule. Second - the architecture and holiday spirit of the building is beyond reproach. A true Pittsburgh staple, representative of the original spirit of the location. If you don't know - Google it! Third - Amber as a server: what a dedicated, kind, professional, knowledgeable, conscientious, and meticulous staffer. She even helped sneak a substitution side item as part of a pre-fix menu because of a food sensitivity. What a peach! She also did a fantastic job not only marketing the Grand Concourse, but also the Landry's brand, with a well-understood and detailed recall of Landry's membership and its perks. I signed right up! Fourth - Amber's partner server for the evening, Danielle, leaned-in to smoothly compliment Amber's service. It was a seamless flow. Danielle and I struck up a conversation about the sole entree - it was fun learning about her background and appreciating different kinds of fish. Fifth - the food and mocktail list was incredible. From the chilled jumbo prawn shrimp cocktail, then to the incredibly rich and flavor-filled butternut squash soup, to the sole entree, rice pilaf, and green beans, culminating in a lovely creme brulee. The mocktail was a blood-orange sage glass of deliciousness that lasted the whole meal. Kudos to the chef! Was a great way to spend a late lunch that lasted almost three luxurious hours to just sit and appreciate all around. Will be back again and again! On a scale of romance novels to documentaries, the Grand Concourse is the sweetest possible romance with a twist of history...I must honestly compare it to Rachel McMillan's The London Restoration with its weighty, historical romances tied to gorgeous architecture. The Grand Concourse offers a jaw-dropping dining experience with its gorgeous architecture and vaulting ceilings. We made reservations easily and went to the Sunday Brunch with drinks included. I opted for a mango bellini as well (and paid extra). What an experience with all the delicious food options (doughnuts hot off the press and omelets made to order)! It truly was a magical experience. If this review was for the brunch only, I'd give it 1 star, but I've had nice meals outside of brunch, hence the 2 stars. We booked a 12:15 slot for my boyfriend's birthday brunch. We arrived 10 minutes early and checked in. The host was curt and impersonal when she let us know we were "checked in". We didn't know if that meant we could go in and start eating or if we had to wait for a table, seeing as we didn't know how the brunch worked. We decided to wait around since we saw others doing so. 10 minutes go by, and we still don't get called. At about 15 minutes past our reservation, we are called over. The person who walked us to our table did not acknowledge the wait, and did not explain how the brunch worked-- she simply gestured at an empty table where we sat for 10 minutes, wondering if we should help ourselves to the brunch station or if we were supposed to wait. When our server arrived, she asked if we'd ever done the brunch before. When we said no, she gave us the bare minimum rundown, seeming sort of confused herself. She then said she would refill our waters (which came in visibly dirty glasses). The waters never came until we asked a second time. Now to the food- most of it was just ok, but the prime rib was stunningly bad. After two bites, we both independently noted that it was fishy. After the third bite, I recognized that it probably had gone bad. I am actually surprised we didn't get sick from it. The only saving grace of the entire experience was the beautiful setting, and even that was marred by the dirty carpet. I would sum the entire experience up as embarrassing. I'm glad the special event was for my long-term partner, and not someone I'm actively trying to impress. read more

This place is a relic that's beyond its prime. In the bar we had to watch them pile up dirty dishes on the counter next to us. In the dining area, we were seated for nearly thirty minutes before anyone asked if we wanted drinks other than the pour-your-own water. We were told on our way out that we 'caught them on a bad night,' as they had several private parties in-house. Good for them - maybe? - but definitely bad for us. I've always enjoyed the food here. I had the crab cake dinner which included two barely held together crab cakes with a small pyramid of coconut ginger rice and a garnish of asparagus. The crab cake was full of crab though I didn't care for the corn that was in it. For dessert, I had their banana fosters crème brûlée and thoroughly enjoyed it. I wish the bananas on top were just slightly toasted. I haven't been here in a few years and have missed their brunch. The interior is just amazing. Lots of people sit in the room with the river view but the interior seating is so gorgeous. We came here on a Tuesday evening and have the place to ourselves. I am very confused by some of the negative reviews given for this restaurant. I must admit I was a little skeptical about dining here due to the reviews but Im glad I decided to still come here because I had a marvelous experience! Let's start by with the restaurant itself, the restaurant is BEAUTIFUL! Admiring the interior architecture that is historical and well kept. I truly felt like I was in the early 1920's. As for the food, we started with their Escargot which were delicious! Usually, I am hesitant about trying escargots because they tend to be a little to "earthy'" , or taste like soil. But these escargots lacked that and were delicious! We finished them quickly! We then had their Parmesan snapper and shrimp which was VERY VERY delicious and also had their grilled halibut which was also equally delicious! We were very happy with our main entrees, they were all delicious. The seafood was fresh and flaky. We also accompanied our entrees with their alcoholic beverages, which are AMAZING! They are delicious and dangerous! Our server was fantastic, she was very attentive and helpful. Overall, we had a great experience here! From the interior design of the restaurant, the atmosphere of the restaurant, the service and the food! Our experience here was great! We cannot wait to return here in the future! read more

Here's the thing about GC ... everyone pretty much comes here to take a picture on the stairs. That's a main part of the restaurant's selling point. It's like made for a certain type of instagram-conscious Millennial (not really a Gen Z spot), but the Insta-conscious are graced with the presence of certain kinds of Boomers and Gen Xers (indeed, a Maga hat would not be out of place here, fair warning), though I would characterize the ambiance, generally speaking as "equal opportunity." While Maga folks will drive in from West Virginia for "a night in the big city" and a nice dinner at GC, they are not the predominant demographic. Anyway, enough about the customers. The reason this is a 3 is mostly due to the service. Don't cry over spilt milk right? But it shouldn't just be left on the table to drip on your pants all night. Though, the server eventually ameliorated the problem and let us move. The food is actually pretty good, especially the fish dishes, but at steakhouse prices you do expect the service to be more prompt. The restaurant was not busy when I was there yet many menu items were not available, food took over an hour to come out and was undercooked. Our Waitress was incredibly disconnected. She constantly bumped into guests at my table. She bumped water glasses and hot plates into people. Their saving grace was the bread and salmon butter. That was incredible. I ordered the Apple Jack Seabass and was quite disappointed! The fish was severely undercooked. The risotto was over done. I ate half my fish before deciding it was not worth finishing. Food I enjoyed the Crab Cake for my appetizer, it was fresh and well seasoned with a mustard based sauces drizzled overtop. Usually I am not a fan of mustard but this might change my opinion on mustard in the future. Prior to the appetizer the waiter brought out bread which was warm and soft, the best part about that was the seafood spread provided. I believe it had tuna and some sort of cream cheese combined it matched very well with the bread. For my main course I ordered the Snapper and shrimp. It was delicious! The flaky crust on the huge, thick piece of fish paired perfectly with the juicy shrimp placed on top. With ginger rice at the side with my asparagus it was a a lovely meal. If I could be picky I wish they played three or four shrimp instead of two. Nonetheless I enjoyed it. Drinks I ordered a Mango Mojito which the waiter encouraged me to try. It wasn't that good. It seemed like the soda water that was used was flat, and the mango purée or syrup that was used did not give me the mango feel. Also I do wish it was slightly stiffer. Decor The interior of this huge restaurant is amazing. Literally in an old train station hence the name "Grand Concourse ", it brings you back to the early 1900's. High ceilings and fantastic art work really brings to life what it was like to live during that era. Also this establishment has a full bar or " Parlor" separate from the dinning area. The brunch at the Grand Concourse is something you must experience if you haven't already. My friend had made reservations ahead of time for our brunch and we were so glad she did after walking into the super busy lobby! On Sundays - the brunch apparently is the place to be! We had reservations but it took some time for us to be seated. Our waiter "Anton" was amazing and gave us the best service possible! The amount of options available for the price of $34.00 is pretty impressive. Buffett of eggs, bacon, potatoes, sausage etc. Then a carving station of sliced ham and prime rib, pasta bar, fruit bar, desserts, custom omelets and waffles and even homemade donuts you can coat with cin sugar or powdered sugar. There is a crowd at every station so you have to just be patient and go with the flow. You do not leave hungry that's for sure! Thank you Grand Concourse for a great experience! read more

My family had Thanksgiving brunch here this year and it was a great experience. The inside of the Grand Concourse is amazing and provides a really unique eating experience. We were lucky enough to get one of the tables looking out into the city which really nice. We also had a really great server named Herb who provided us with great service. The food was all setup buffet style. No matter what type of food you were looking for, this buffet had it. They had the standard thanksgiving food, Turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. While the turkey and mashed potatoes were good, everyone at my table agreed the stuffing was really off. The stuffing is the only reason I would not give five stars, it was that bad. They also had a ton of other options including salmon, pasta salad, Caesar salad, a pasta bar, prime rib, ham, cheese platters, and dips. My favorite food items were the prime rib and salmon. Both were very fresh and flavorful. For desserts there were more options than you could imagine. Pies, cakes, cookies, cupcakes, pastries, a donut station, an ice cream station, and more. The sticky buns and ice cream were amazing and I am usually not a dessert person. I really enjoyed my first experience and hope to make it back to try their regular menu soon! read more
