Service - average Ambiance - dated but has some charm Food- mediocre. We had a party of 10, ordered a variety of meals. and everyone at the table had a similar opinion. The food was flavorless, just blah, they need to use some seasonings. We had to heavily salt ALL the dishes to garner some flavor. The side mashed potatoes were runny with no flavor at all and the vegetables were under cooked and had nothing on them to enhance flavor. Desserts tasted like they had been brought in from a grocery store. Again little to no flavor. I had a reservation of 3 during Restaurant Week because someone recommended to us. It has a beautiful night view of Pittsburgh overlooking the rivers and bridges. I was checked in immediately and greeted by the host. They have valet parking for like $10, but there is free street parking (be warned it is on a hill). We got a 3 course meal for $45.26 each and added calamari as an appetizer. The calamari ($20) was actually very good -- it was soft and well seasoned, not rubbery or dry at all. It's tossed in sweet and spicy peppers and is lightly breaded w/ garlic butter. It was aromatic and quickly devoured by us. We also got bread for the table which has an assortment of soft rolls and hard flat breads. I got the Grinch Punch, which was a seasonal cocktail. Overall, a decent drink with their sugar rim and festive colors. 1st course: soup or salad I got the butternut squash soup which was very creamy and smooth. It was a good soup as a professional soup lover. It has butternut squash, pumpkin, onions, and garlic. I didn't quite taste the pumpkin, but it was seasoned and blended. I also was told that the wedding soup was very good, consisting of Italian meatballs, chicken, spinach, acini pasta, and homemade chicken broth. 2nd course: main entree I was honestly disappointed by its presentation. The steak looked fine (I guess like how a steak should), and it was medium rare like I asked. It's drenched in sauce and capers. But the sides were comically large and plated in an unorthodox manner. The green beans and whole carrot was not seasoned, not even some salt and pepper. It's literally an entire whole carrot that was skinned (not even the top was chopped off) and sliced in half. At least the carrot was soft, but it just looks comical. 3rd course: dessert Because they were 3 of us, we opted to get one of each to try them all: red velvet, burnt almond torte, and chocolate layer cake. The red velvet was CAKED in its buttercream frosting. The chocolate layer cake had mini chocolate chips on its outside layer for some crunch that I enjoyed. However, I think the best dessert had to be the burnt almond torte because it was light and not too sweet. It had a good mix of soft cream and flaky layers. The staff and service was good. Food came in a timely manner. However, I don't think I would return to this restaurant or pick this again during Restaurant Week (given the numerous restaurants with coursed meals and offers during that week). read more

Le Mont is elegant, with gold interior accents throughout, and the high glass walls offer stunning views of the city. Getting there is honestly a little scary, since the restaurant sits on top of a hill, but they offer valet parking to make life easier. The food was okay. Given how beautiful the restaurant is, I expected the dishes to blow me away, but the hoisin Brussels sprouts, pecan-crusted salmon, and lamb chops fell short. They missed the opportunity to make the flavors more interesting and complex. The service, however, was a standout. The staff went above and beyond by gifting me a generous gift card enclosed in an envelope with "Happy Birthday" written in beautiful calligraphy. They also took a photo of us, gave us a framed print, and surprised me with a delicious cake for my birthday. It was incredibly thoughtful and sweet. To be completely honest, I'm not sure I would come back just for the food, since it was mediocre. Stopped here for dinner on a Thursday night. Had a reservation for 2 at 8:30. Checked in at 8:15 and were sat immediately. I will say this is probably one of the most upscale restaurants we have been to in the PGH area. Located on Mt. Washington overlooking the point and downtown, we had a table right next to the big windows. We started with sharing a French onion soup and the burrata, along with the assorted table breads which came out warm. The soup was good, a deep and hearty flavor to the broth and the cheese and bread topper is always a nice addition to this dish. The burrata was good as well, but it seemed somewhat executed poorly - just haphazard tomato slices with no real balsamic. Reminded me of something someone could make in their kitchen to mimic what they got at the restaurant. For my entree, I went with the filet which comes with potato mash and beans and carrots. Steak was done properly medium; the vegetables were good and crisp; but the potatoes I'm still waiting on the rest of. It was like they were out and scraped the bottom of the pan for whatever was left. They tasted good A just not enough of them. I also added a side of lobster risotto which was just a mess. It wasn't creamy, and was just a mess of various stuff that was hard to negotiate. For dessert, the carrot cake was very good. Our waiter - young guy with a mustache and a bow tie was good. Went with family for a graduation dinner and they did such a great job. Inside is extremely unique with gold trim and fancy vibe. The view of the city was fantastic. Ordered a Caesar salad, which was prepared as any salad. Ordered a fillet mignon and was delicious. I do not eat green beans, but the carrots and mashed potatoes were good as well. They served a small chocolate cake for the graduate which tasted good as well. Service was good, she was very attentive and brought extra rolls when asked. So, finally I did so, and got a reservation ahead of time for the six of us to go to the Lamont Restaurant for dinner the 6 of us, 6:30 PM Friday, July 3. NOW THE STORY GETS JUICY; AND THIS HORRIBLE DEBACLE ABOUT OUR HORRIFIC DINNER EXPERIENCE BEGINS. FIRST, we ordered two appetizers and surprisingly, they were served and all OK with them. Then we each ordered our entrées and the calamity of a major nature started happening, And quite shockingly unexpected. My girlfriend ordered seafood; her entree was OK. Then, they came out with my one male friend's order ... a seafood pasta that came out OK. NOW WAIT; THE DISASTERS NOW BEGIN My guy friend's wife ordered a vegetable entree in which the tofu came out like hard pieces of cardboard ... four or five slices. They looked horrible; she couldn't eat them. The other guy's wife ordered a steak; and she wanted it pink; it didn't come out as she ordered it. Big disappointment for her. My other male friend ordered a crabcakes' entree; they were mostly filler; he was quite angry and called the general manager, who took it off the bill, not to be charged. Are you getting the lack of high-quality professionalism at this restaurant? As for me, I ordered two lesser items because I was somewhat full from the appetizers. I ordered onion soup, which was fine and also a Caesar salad with anchovies on it. What I got instead of anchovies were small baby sardines, which turned me off, and the Caesar salad at the time I ate it tasted good. BUT BUT BUT........disaster hit me that night about 1 AM. By 1 AM that evening I began getting a very sour stomach, nearly throwing up and every 45 minutes from about 1 AM July 4 through about 4 PM July 4, I had to visit the bathroom terribly often .... at least 8 to 10 times (about every 25-35 minutes) feeling super sick. I ask myself, is this my time to DIE? By then I knew, I had food poisoning from the Caesar salad. How did I recognize food poisoning on myself? Years ago when I was in business, I went to a trade function various times in Baltimore; it was a bull-oyster roast. The last time I went to that function, I pigged-out on oysters which I did before; came home that night and got stricken severely with the same identical symptoms, sore stomach, headache, and bathroom runs for over 12 hours. I knew I had food poisoning. Also, I knew by the extensive reading I do that Caesar salad is made from Romain lettuce; and if you look on the Internet, it is known to have a good amount of e coli in many of the bags or whole Romain lettuce heads. STILL MORE FUN READING BELOW.... And then, lastly, to top it off with the many debacles mentioned above, I asked them where the men's room was, and they pointed to stairs going upstairs. Not only do I have a bad hip that I have to get operated on, but for one to have to go upstairs with a sore hip was not so nice. They then told me that on this main floor, that there's a men's bathroom to the left. I said why did you not tell me that there's a Men's bathroom on the main floor to the left? My steak was well-done. I wrestled this shoe leather for a few bites and passed it on to someone who likes a well-done steak. The vegetables and the salad were tasty. The cheesecake dessert was very common like a grocery store brand. The maitre d was rushing us around like cattle to get seated and eventually started serving salads to empty tables. It was still decorated for Christmas complete with a Christmas drink menu on the table. It is mid-January. The meal was a major disappointment. Half of the entrees served in our group of 8 was unfortunately cold and lacked any discernible seasoning. The salad was completely overwhelmed, swimming in a pool of dressing. Most frustrating was the dessert; after being presented with an attractive dessert tray, the actual cake served was stale and tasted like cardboard. The desserts are promoted as being made in-house. The disappointment was mutual for everyone in our party of 8. When someone in the party mentioned the quality of the cake to the server, he started arguing with them! It's been a long time since I've been here, and transparently, only made a reservation as we had a gift card. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt that this place has evolved at all through the years, but I found it stuffy and disappointing. To be clear, the staff was wonderful and they had a musician playing a keyboard behind us who was great - so zero complaints about the service. To drink, my wife and I had both some horrible wine and a poorly executed cocktail. The bread was fine, nothing was warm or overly fresh. The French onion soup packed a bunch of salt and the pumpernickel shined through, which was the best part of the meal. I went with the rack of lamb that was gamey, underseasoned and well done on the ends and medium rare in the middle pieces, which wasnt what I ordered. My wife's scallops were simple but the better option, as was he side of asparagus we ordered. For dessert, my wife has creme brulee that has a soggy top and I had a chocolate mousse cake that was incredibly disappointing. By and large, the meal was a disappointment. You can come here for good service and a beautiful view, and if the atmosphere does something for you, that's great. To be, it's stuffy curtains and dusty chandeliers. Also, don't pay the $9 for valet, there are plenty of spots within a few blocks most nights. read more

He is hands-down the best server I've ever had--attentive, personable, and with a true gift for hospitality. Years ago, Le Mont removed their famous tableside bananas foster from the menu. It had always been one of my favorite desserts, so on a whim, I brought my own bananas just to see what would happen. To my surprise, Deedles didn't just say yes--he masterfully prepared the dessert tableside like it had never left the menu. The presentation, the flames, the aroma--it was perfection, and it made the evening extra memorable. The food, as always, was excellent, but it was Deedles' service and that personal touch that turned a great dinner into an extraordinary one. Overall: come for the view but don't stay for the food. The service was super accommodating and nice but I wouldn't say the food tasted great by any means. Food: it's been a while since I've had a filet mignon but I don't remember them being as grainy as that one was. I understand the waiter messed up and gave me my friends medium cooked one as opposed to my medium rare one (or they messed up the cooking) but it really didn't feel like a filet but rather a top sirloin. The salad to start was not bad but the whole grape tomatoes was very lazy to just "throw them in". The cheesecake left more to be desired as it's as plain as it looks. Ambience/Decor/Service: super posh upscale restaurant that I would argue is too expensive for the quality of food. Yes it's beautiful inside and sits with one of the best views of Pittsburgh but at least make the food bearable. Service was incredibly rapid and the people there are on top of things. We live in the neighborhood and you will often find us belly-up to the bar. We love Kathy and Jarod (the bartenders). They are friendly, helpful, and funny. We will often get dinner from the bar menu which is different from the main menu. The food choices are limited, but always very good. The drinks are terrific and they have a great wine selection. The main dining area is really something to see. The view is spectacular. Most patrons are there for special occasions. Well worth it. The servers are terrific. Food arrived cold and unsalted (perhaps intentionally?). I found a six inch length of breaded fishing line in my calamari. Otherwise, the staff came off as snooty at first and a little more friendly as the night went on. I think you get a better meal if you are actually eating there, which I've never done. I had high hopes for the Le Mont. I am somewhat disappointed. The highlight of our dinner was Chad who was a fantastic server. The decor was old school classy which was interesting, but the view was kinda obscured by the glare from the chandeliers. Our food was a mixed result. Lowlights: crab hoelzel, mixed vegetables served with entrees. Mid tier: crab cakes, mashed potatoes. Highlights: rack of lamb, truffle fries. I am very disappointed with our visit to LeMont for Mother's Day dinner. Out of all the "high end" restaurants I have been to, LeMont is the worst one so far. The guy who gave water, bread, and water was a bit standoff-ish. Not a word or peep from him. Not even a hello. Dinner rolls - terrible. Cold and hard. It is like they got a bag from Costco and served it with cold slices of butter. French Onion - the server spilled a bunch as he placed it down. Instead of placing it next to our dinner plate, he tries to place it ON our plate which had the dinner roll on it! I also found a hair in my soup :(. Very generous portion for 10 bucks though. Colossal crab cocktail - underwhelming. I was expecting like pre-cracked meaty claws, but it was just pieces of jumbo lump crab meat. If I had known I wouldn't gave gotten this since we literally have a can from Giant Eagle sitting in our refrigerator. They're cocktail sauce is OK, in the sweeter side versus spice horseradish... which is that I prefer. They have this oil dip which we really did not like. It was sour (not spoiled sour). Clams casino - I prefer crispy bacon. The bacon bits in there had the consistency of raw bacon that has been cooked just enough where we wouldn't get trichinosos. Chilean seabass - not a fan. Very flavorless. It was topped with some kind of cream sauce that tasted neither of lemon nor parmesan. My moms cat loved it though. Lamb chops were good, but it didn't blow my socks off. It was probably the best part of the meal. Entrees came with carrots, green beans, and potatoes - all of which were nicely cooked and had a beautiful color. Server was very nice, but this is not enough for me to come back. As a Pittsburgh native, LeMont had always been this grand fancy place. I last came here about 10 years ago before I moved to Philadelphia for my friend's sister's wedding and I think it was good... but I was also less picky back then due to ignorance/little exposure to the outside Pittsburgh bubble. What I do know for sure is that I will not be having my wedding reception here, and will not be returning on my own volition. The portions are huge so you do get a lot of bang for your buck here. Went for Thanksgiving dinner. LeMont ran out of food. They ran out of turkey and prime rib. Our friends also ate there and said only 1 person of their party of 8 was able to get prime rib and not all of them even got turkey. The dessert looked like they bought them at the grocery store and just got them out of the freezer and threw them on a tray. Very disappointed. Do not recommend for their holiday buffet. If you happen to be in Pittsburgh and want to dine with the best view in town, make a reservation at Le Mont restaurant. Located on Mount Washington, the panoramic views of the bridges, rivers, and downtown are well worth the price tag. I was recently in Pittsburgh for a weekend and one of the people I met there had booked a reservation at Le Mont. We arrived just in time for dinner on Saturday evening and were promptly seated at our table overlooking downtown Pittsburgh. If you can request a server for your visit, Tom is your man. He took care of us during our meal and was a seasoned pro who expertly made us feel welcomed. Restaurant week was wrapping up when we were there, and we all went for some of the prix fixe meals that were offered. I was between the Surf and Turf and the Lobster Ravioli, and decided on the surf and turf with mushroom bisque to start. Other people I dined with got the ravioli, and I imagine there was no way to go wrong regardless of which meal you choose. The mushroom bisque to start was out of this world! I only wish I could have gotten a huge bowl of it instead of just a cup. A short time later our main course was served, and I was not disappointed with my medium-cooked steak and plump shrimp skewers. The Maltaise sauce to accompany (like a hollandaise with a hint of orange) provided a perfect topping to the steak. We were less impressed with the desserts. I got the tropical cake and others got the tiramisu. I found the cake to be a little dry, and I wish I could have gotten some of the other desserts I saw around the restaurant. One person thought their tiramisu was among the best they had ever eaten, another said it was among their worst - so go figure! Overall, I highly recommend you add Le Mont to your list of restaurants to try in Pittsburgh! read more

We went to Easter brunch. Most of the buffet was lit with red heat lamps. You could not see what the food actually looked like. The salads were on a platter sitting out, the Caesar was pre dressed and soggy. The shellfish display was sitting out not on ice. They were out of crab legs. There was no filet as advertised. The carving station was a mess, looked very unsanitary. Not to be outdone by the bananas foster station, there was food, rags and used bottles everywhere. The girl working was talking/yelling/joking around with the carving station people the whole time. The conversation made the people there uncomfortable. The wait staff was great. But this was at best a $20 a person buffet. Our table of 10 was treated to this and our host spent well over $1,200. It was a shame. read more

Le Mont has a lovely view from the window tables. That is the best thing about the restaurant. Our crab appetizer was edible and when asked by the waiter how it was and I said okay he said "oh". My entree was crab cakes with carrots and green beans. The crab cakes were very good. The carrots and the green beans had no flavor And I left them on the plate. For $40 entree, I would leave one star. My friend had the pork chop which she said was okay, and her vegetables also were tasteless. We had dessert, she had the creme brulee which was not creamy but thick and starchy. The fruit on top was inedible. I had the cheesecake and I have to say if I ever came to this restaurant again I would simply have the cheesecake dessert and a glass of wine overlooking the river and that would be great. The waiter asked how everything was and when we said just okay and complained about the creme brulee he said oh well one out of two was good, meaning one out of two desserts! I find that to be a waiter who has not been trained at all. Very disappointed after spending $240. read more
