It's difficult to fail on every aspect but The Grand Concourse was able to achieve that. Aside from the view and the rolls there's not much else I can say by way of positive. We had reservations for six on a Tuesday evening and they had our table ready when we arrived. We had a nice view of the river from our table. Our server, Marcia, greeted us a few minutes after we arrived and took our drink orders. I ordered my norm: Grey Goose martini, straight up with blue cheese stuffed olives. A few minutes later she comes back to check in and asks me what I want to drink. I told her what I wanted and she then remembered. We waited about 15-20 minutes for our drinks to come out which was a little long but the restaurant was moderately busy. The bread rolls were delivered to our table and I will say these were delicious. They had a garlic flavor and with the soft butter that was on the table they were excellent. We ordered a pound of King Crab legs for the table. Upon picking them up the shells were soft and someone commented that they may have been over steamed. The crab meat was decent after dipping in the garlic butter sauce. Marcia came by to ask if I wanted another martini and I said yes. 4 of our table ordered small filets for our meal. All four should have been medium rare; they all came out as medium. The texture was chewy and definitely not a quality cut. I had the Oscar topping on mine and it was not that flavorful. 10 minutes after I said I would like another drink I catch Marcia's eye and she says I got you in reference to my drink. 20 minutes later I still did not have my drink and we were finishing our meal. We stop Marcia to ask about my martini and she said she never heard me order another drink... I've never in my life had a server flat out lie to the entire table so blatantly. She delivered my drink a little while later but by then everyone was waiting on me to leave so I wasn't able to enjoy it. We chose The Grand Concourse as a unique spot for our business dinner while in town from Houston. If you are looking for a special evening out this would not be the restaurant I would recommend. read more

Let's start with the good: Parking is plentiful nearby (ParkMobile app friendly) The interior of the restaurant is BEAUTIFUL! Just stunning. A lot of detail was put into celebrating the former station into a glorious new life as a restaurant. Our server was attentive and nice. The lobster bisque and calamari were decent. Flavorful and a nice way to start our meal. The not so good: The Cesar salad was soggy. The quality of steak and lobster was poor, which normally wouldn't be an issue but for an $80 surf &turf dish I expected a decent quality meal. The steak felt like I was chewing paper pulp and the lobster was chewy. The mashed potatoes and butter for the lobster were so salty that it was overwhelming and couldn't be finished. The halibut was literally nothing special. It was fine (but at this price point it should not be just fine). The bed of rice was overcooked and clumped/congealed into a single mass which was difficult to eat. I did not try dessert - so cannot speak to that. Great time at Grand Concourse. We had the best waitress ever, Charae, who went above and beyond to take care of our party of 7. I never saw the bottom of my glass due to the consistent refills. She also brought out donuts / ice cream with candles when she found out we were celebrating an anniversary. Food was also great, I enjoyed the prime rib and the banana fosters. The Grand Concourse is still beautiful and has a good view (even when rainy). The service is okay. Not quite as good as I remember, but friendly if not super on top of things (took forever to get a drink refill and the check/check picked up/etc.). With exception of them mixing up steaks and giving one who wanted medium the medium rare and vice versa and the shrimp being bland and overcooked, the food was delicious. The Grand Concourse is an old train station and it was beautifully decorated for the holidays. We had a private event in one of the side rooms with a set menu. The food itself was a mixed bag. The butternut squash soup looked unappetizing but tasted okay. The Caesar salad was decent. Their bread came out piping hot and was incredible. All our entrees were pretty good. I had to leave early and informed our server and ask for dessert to go. I had to remind our server 10 minutes after my departure time. It was so funny to me that instead of telling me they couldn't give me my crème brûlée to go or giving me an alternate dessert they just tossed it haphazardly in a small white styrofoam container. It's so weird to me when a purportedly nicer restaurant just has terrible low quality styrofoam takeout containers. read more

Grand Concourse Restaurant in Pittsburgh, PA has got to be one of the most beautiful restaurants in America. The restaurant was previously a railroad station built in 1901. The inside of the building has original Victorian and Edwardian style architecture and design. In 1974, this beautiful building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The first time we tried this restaurant was 15 years ago for their AMAZING Sunday brunch which I highly recommend. Today we had a fantastic early dinner and recommend the following: *New York Strip steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. *Surf and Turf with Lobster, mashed potatoes and asparagus. We added shrimp scampi. Our complementary bread with salmon pâté was delicious. For dessert we had the banana creme brûlée and key lime pie. Everything was outstanding 5/5 stars!! We had excellent service with very friendly and attentive staff. There's indoor and outdoor seating with beautiful views of the city of Pittsburgh and Monongahela River. You can see the Steelers Stadium from a distance. We recommend trying this restaurant when in the area. Heard it's very popular for weddings and graduation parties. Check it out! Four of us went to their Sunday brunch and two of us really liked the food but two of us didn't. First, the staff were friendly but overworked. Our server was great but missed one of our drinks and when she brought it (a bottle of beer) she never brought us the glass that we had requested. Granted it may be a Pittsburgh thing to bring bottles of beer without glasses and I get that - and we should have requested a glass when ordering it perhaps - but when we did ask, it should have arrived maybe just a few minutes later. She did surprise us later with birthday ice cream so overall she was excellent. Second, the food quality does not justify the high price. We paid about $360 for four people (2 alcoholic drinks, 3 non-alcoholic). Some items were great: the made to order pasta, the prime rib, and the biscuits and gravy to name a few. Others were just meh. The Caesar salad (as others have mentioned) had soggy croutons and was slimy and warm. The pierogi and some of the other food at the breakfast buffet was dry. I liked the salmon (both the smoked and the baked) and the sausage, but too many other things were forgettable. I think people come here for the ambience - it's a beautiful building and we sat facing the river - but it's really a one-shot experience where the "wow" factor of the scenery doesn't seem to extend to the food. Overall, we're glad we tried it but we're unlikely to come back unless they bring the food quality up and/or the prices down. Edit: the tip jar next to the carving station is tacky! read more

Came back for the first time in a while and wasn't what we remembered at all. Forget the ice cream station, it was a mess. Workers were not paying attention, chatting and not cooking up the waffles and extras. Checked back many times for salmon to be replenished. Prime rib was extremely fatty. I decided to try this place again for Christmas. I really shouldn't have. It took 45 minutes past our reservation to get seated and then another 15 to flag someone down for a drink order. When we finally got the buffet, everything was old and crusty. What wasn't old and crusty, they were out of completely. They silently raised buffet prices and didn't alert anyone. This is honestly the worst dining experience that we have ever had. It makes it worse that it was on Christmas. I will not be giving this business another chance. The Wynn buffet is actually cheaper than this buffet, so it is insane to think about for this quality of "food" and horrible service. The place was also dirty and had toilet paper on the floor where the chocolate fountain used to be. Oh yes, they removed the chocolate fountain but still raised prices. Clearly they are, by my reckoning, just willy nilly taking far too many reservations for their capacity. It was over a half an hour after our 12:15 reservation before being called and seated. The overworked server was nice, but simply couldn't keep up with her table responsibilities, and that's pretty bad for a buffet style setting. I gifted a brunch to GC to my husband for Christmas. We went on a Sunday and had a reservation, but they were still backed up, so we did wait about 15 minutes to be seated. Our server was prompt, a Pittsburgh'er, and very friendly (Noelle, I think?). The food overall here is pretty good! The prime rib was great, the waffles were nice, and there is a lot to choose from. The donut machine was broken while we were there, which was sad :( There is a lot of disorganization to which way to go in line when getting your food, plus not a lot of space to move around people who are taking some time with other items. They had things so nicely decorated for Christmas time. Including a great big tree for pictures. Our food was delicious. I ordered the blackened chicken tortellini. Such a good taste to it! My family and I were visiting from Washington, D.C. and wanted a restaurant with great views, old-world atmosphere, and historical significance. After a last-minute search, we chose the Grand Concourse. While it checks those boxes on paper, the actual experience was deeply disappointing. Service was poor from the start. Our waiter was impatient and told us to "hurry up and order," even though we had already placed our food order moments earlier. Basic attentiveness was missing. I had to point out that our table did not even have a water glass. When the food arrived, it was fine but completely forgettable. Nothing special or memorable. That changed quickly when I found a red produce rubber band on my plate. I joked to my wife, "I wonder which part of the fish this is," before trying to get our server's attention. Despite being seated in a very busy area of the restaurant, it took a long time for anyone to come by. The server replaced the dish and offered an apology that felt more obligatory than sincere. He even told me to "double check it for rubber bands" when the replacement arrived, which did little to inspire confidence. He said a manager would come to the table. No one did. Instead, I was repeatedly told, in front of my guests, that I had been given a "huge discount," allegedly sixty to seventy dollars. This was uncomfortable and unnecessary, especially since the issue was still not resolved. When the check arrived, the wrong dish had been removed and I was still being charged for both plates. I eventually had to call a manager through another server. When he arrived, he seemed resigned, as though this was not an unusual situation. He apologized and ultimately comped my plate, but the entire experience left us drained and exhausted. For a restaurant that is often described as a "must see" destination, the Grand Concourse fell far short. The space is beautiful and historic, but that alone cannot make up for inattentive service, avoidable mistakes, and an overall lack of hospitality. read more

We came to the Grand Concourse as a Holiday gathering with my entire family. There were 15 of us total. We did the Sunday buffet. The food was really good for a buffet and it was cool that it was spread out around the entirety of the restaurant. Stopped in for their Sunday brunch, do make a reservation and bring your patience with you, you'll NEED IT!!! Got there 15 minutes early, checked in and got seated around our reservation time. Things move slowly unfortunately, be it the lines, the service we got or trying to navigate around the people. Let's get to it. Food: nothing to write home about. My favorite was the freshly made donuts, outside of that, all others were just decent. I had high hopes for the prime rib, but it could be better. The ham was dried, and a lot of the sauces were out and weren't replenished. Salads looked like they had better days. Food Stations: Visit each food station to get an idea, if you want to try it or skip it, look at how many folks are in line, all the factors that's going to make you decide if you'll get the food or skip it. For me, I skipped the omelet station, as 10+ people were waiting just to place their order and a few waiting for their food. Service - nonexistent. We saw our server maybe 5 times, that includes asking for the bill, bill delivery and another time after the payment was processed. Depending on who you get as a server, it's night and day. Our server never explained anything to use, just asked if we wanted anything else other than water. I get it, it was super busy but at least try to show some effort. The only reason that I'm giving 2 stars is because of our server. She was amazing! And for the lady that does the ice cream station. All I wanted was a donut with strawberry sauce and when she was out of the strawberry sauce she had the manager run to the kitchen and make me a fresh batch. But other than that everything else was awful. We went here for their Easter Brunch and were sat about 45 minutes after our reservation time. (Mind you there's a 2 hour limit for tables to stay and we overheard a server telling multiple tables not to worry about that and stay as long as they want) We went to the bar to have a cocktail while we waited and the bartender was extremely slow and even forgot one of the drinks. (Mind you when we arrived at the bar initially there were only a few people there) as more people came, she stopped making our drinks and made theirs first... resulting in having to remind her about the missing drink. Now, to dinner, the buffet was just sad. Especially at a $70 price point. All of the food was cold and bland. And just not what you expect from the Grand Concourse. We waited 3 separate times in the carving line only to be told they were out of things and we'd have to go wait again. (I'm pretty sure they never had the lamb... ) you'd think with the number of times they've hosted a brunch buffet, things would be running more smoothly as far as refilling the food. I have such great memories of dining here, and maybe I'll give another try for the restaurant, but the buffet is overpriced, underseasoned, and unimpressive. read more

We first came to TGC 28 years ago for my husband's birthday, and have been half a dozen times since, even after moving to NJ. Definitely one of the most memorable dining experiences. We ate here last Saturday 8/1/26, and the food was amazing - the lemon salmon special and the prime rib were spectacular. The main dining room was closed for a wedding, but we didn't mind the view from the window seats overlooking the river. And a special shout out to our server Herbert - what a charming man, who chatted with us about the menu, thanked us profusely for our patronage, and made a show of creating the smoked Manhattan my husband ordered! We were seated outside the main dining room, which is the restaurant's main attraction, and spent the entire meal watching spiders crawling up and down the windows. While the food itself had good flavor, everything seemed like it had been sitting for a while and was served lukewarm instead of hot. The only bright spot of the evening was the bar. Came here to celebrate a special occasion with my family...what an intriguing old building and what they've done to the main station space to turn it into a dining space! Service was attentive and pleasant, but the food was more on the average side for what it was. Fresh bread came out to the table as we waited for our drinks to arrive, a basket of warm rolls and seeded crackers. We ordered a plate of calamari which came with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. The squid was breaded and fried with a slight crunch, and not chewy at all. For a main dish, I ordered the parmesan crusted snapper topped with shrimp and served with rice and three small asparagus. Although flaky, the fish could have used a bit more sauce and the rice had very little of the coconut ginger flavor that was promised. Ambiance wise, this spot will blow you away, the food...not so much. read more

I'd give the Grand Concourse 5 stars for the ambiance and experience, but only about 3 stars for the food. Some of the food was quite tasty, but some was fairly average to even below average (at one end, the salmon was quite tasty but on the other, the churros served at the chocolate fountain were unpalatable and extremely stale tasting). We sat in one of the side rooms but thankfully got a nice window seat and could look out toward the skyline. The best seats, albeit probably the loudest, would have been in the main hall with the grandest decor. There were many other side rooms that would definitely be less exciting spots to sit. It's just the luck of the draw. There is a LOT of variety at brunch, but the stations are spread out and some are located in areas you may not even realize they are. I'm glad our server chimed in with suggestions and let us know to explore one of the other rooms for homemade donuts and waffles. This is definitely a fun spot to get brunch with a unique experience. There is a variety of food that should suit just about everyone's tastes. That being said if you are looking for the best brunch food, you'd find better prepared dishes elsewhere. read more
