The only reason that I'm giving 2 stars is because of our server. She was amazing! And for the lady that does the ice cream station. All I wanted was a donut with strawberry sauce and when she was out of the strawberry sauce she had the manager run to the kitchen and make me a fresh batch. But other than that everything else was awful. We went here for their Easter Brunch and were sat about 45 minutes after our reservation time. (Mind you there's a 2 hour limit for tables to stay and we overheard a server telling multiple tables not to worry about that and stay as long as they want) We went to the bar to have a cocktail while we waited and the bartender was extremely slow and even forgot one of the drinks. (Mind you when we arrived at the bar initially there were only a few people there) as more people came, she stopped making our drinks and made theirs first... resulting in having to remind her about the missing drink. Now, to dinner, the buffet was just sad. Especially at a $70 price point. All of the food was cold and bland. And just not what you expect from the Grand Concourse. We waited 3 separate times in the carving line only to be told they were out of things and we'd have to go wait again. (I'm pretty sure they never had the lamb... ) you'd think with the number of times they've hosted a brunch buffet, things would be running more smoothly as far as refilling the food. I have such great memories of dining here, and maybe I'll give another try for the restaurant, but the buffet is overpriced, underseasoned, and unimpressive. read more

This historic location is a marvel, with tremendous history, amazing views across the Monogahela and downtown Pittsburgh - so glad this architectural treasure is being used as a first-rate restaurant. The experience ended at that. The wait service, bar service and food service was absolutely abysmal. We were seated at 5:15 pm for our Open Table reservation. It took over 20 minutes for wait staff to take our drink orders and at 5:55 pm, I had to alert management that after 40 minutes, our beverage orders hadn't been delivered, and the restaurant wasn't even busy. Then came the comedy of carousel of a result of our food orders. Two dinners were brought out after over 30 minutes of putting them in...we waited for the other two dinners in our party to be delivered, and they never came - after 20 minutes I complained and had been told by the wait staff that the two dinners had "accidentally been delivered to another table." A BIG FAT LIE. By this time, our meals were cold when one of the two yet-to-be-delivered arrived...but after another 10 minutes, finally had to get the manager involved we because we were still missing the fourth meal. It then was delivered, incorrectly, and drink orders were completely late and in error. Then, we rarely saw our server as we sat there with cold food, delivered over the course of 40 minutes. Bad way for my niece and nephew to have their first experience in dining in Pittsburgh. Absolutely abject service and yes, we were "comped" about half of our meal, and ABSOLUTELY deserved it. Atrocious wait service, bar service, timing of food delivery and overall - a waste of $175, even with 1/2 comped. read more

The Grand Concourse is still beautiful and has a good view (even when rainy). The service is okay. Not quite as good as I remember, but friendly if not super on top of things (took forever to get a drink refill and the check/check picked up/etc.). With exception of them mixing up steaks and giving one who wanted medium the medium rare and vice versa and the shrimp being bland and overcooked, the food was delicious. It had been a long time since we went there and it's nice to see it's still beautiful. read more

The Grand Concourse is an old train station and it was beautifully decorated for the holidays. We had a private event in one of the side rooms with a set menu. The food itself was a mixed bag. The butternut squash soup looked unappetizing but tasted okay. The Caesar salad was decent. Their bread came out piping hot and was incredible. All our entrees were pretty good. I had to leave early and informed our server and ask for dessert to go. I had to remind our server 10 minutes after my departure time. It was so funny to me that instead of telling me they couldn't give me my crème brûlée to go or giving me an alternate dessert they just tossed it haphazardly in a small white styrofoam container. It's so weird to me when a purportedly nicer restaurant just has terrible low quality styrofoam takeout containers. read more

My partner and I came here for our anniversary dinner and had such a fantastic time. The restaurant was absolutely beautiful and we were seated in the back room with a view of the river. Our server, Neil, was incredibly attentive, kind, and quite informative as he provided many interesting facts about the restaurant and surrounding area. Grand Concourse Restaurant in Pittsburgh, PA has got to be one of the most beautiful restaurants in America. The restaurant was previously a railroad station built in 1901. The inside of the building has original Victorian and Edwardian style architecture and design. In 1974, this beautiful building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The first time we tried this restaurant was 15 years ago for their AMAZING Sunday brunch which I highly recommend. Today we had a fantastic early dinner and recommend the following: *New York Strip steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. *Surf and Turf with Lobster, mashed potatoes and asparagus. We added shrimp scampi. Our complementary bread with salmon pâté was delicious. For dessert we had the banana creme brûlée and key lime pie. Everything was outstanding 5/5 stars!! We had excellent service with very friendly and attentive staff. There's indoor and outdoor seating with beautiful views of the city of Pittsburgh and Monongahela River. Its very overpriced for what you get but the atmosphere and views are 5 stars! Service was average at best, it felt rushed for what I was expecting from a place like this. I took my niece here for her 18th bday and while she enjoyed her 1st fancy dinner I was underwhelmed for what I was expecting for her experience. No one asked if we were celebrating anything like all other places do at this type of escalated dining establishment. I was hoping it would have added to her experience. I decided to try this place again for Christmas. I really shouldn't have. It took 45 minutes past our reservation to get seated and then another 15 to flag someone down for a drink order. When we finally got the buffet, everything was old and crusty. What wasn't old and crusty, they were out of completely. They silently raised buffet prices and didn't alert anyone. This is honestly the worst dining experience that we have ever had. It makes it worse that it was on Christmas. I will not be giving this business another chance. The Wynn buffet is actually cheaper than this buffet, so it is insane to think about for this quality of "food" and horrible service. The place was also dirty and had toilet paper on the floor where the chocolate fountain used to be. Oh yes, they removed the chocolate fountain but still raised prices. I gifted a brunch to GC to my husband for Christmas. We went on a Sunday and had a reservation, but they were still backed up, so we did wait about 15 minutes to be seated. Our server was prompt, a Pittsburgh'er, and very friendly (Noelle, I think?). The food overall here is pretty good! The prime rib was great, the waffles were nice, and there is a lot to choose from. The donut machine was broken while we were there, which was sad :( There is a lot of disorganization to which way to go in line when getting your food, plus not a lot of space to move around people who are taking some time with other items. I just think the overall flow needs tweaking. Not a place I would frequent (we don't even live in Pitt anymore), but a nice experience for a special occasion! read more

Clearly they are, by my reckoning, just willy nilly taking far too many reservations for their capacity. It was over a half an hour after our 12:15 reservation before being called and seated. The overworked server was nice, but simply couldn't keep up with her table responsibilities, and that's pretty bad for a buffet style setting. Our table was improperly set, and it was a long wait for drinks or refills. Saw empty food trays on the line. Simply too many people. The food was okay, but just that. Sad to see what has become of what used to be a great spot for brunch. It was a mistake coming to this place again, and we all agreed (6 in our party) that it wasn't one we'll repeat. read more

This way my first experience at the Grand Concourse. My friend and I were celebrating our birthdays. We have a great time. It is quite loud in the restaurant but not overwhelming. They had things so nicely decorated for Christmas time. Including a great big tree for pictures. Our food was delicious. I ordered the blackened chicken tortellini. Such a good taste to it! Service was good but we both kept saying how our waitress kept leaning over the table. Not a big deal but definitely expected different from such a nice restaurant. The food. My family and I were visiting from Washington, D.C. and wanted a restaurant with great views, old-world atmosphere, and historical significance. After a last-minute search, we chose the Grand Concourse. While it checks those boxes on paper, the actual experience was deeply disappointing. Service was poor from the start. Our waiter was impatient and told us to "hurry up and order," even though we had already placed our food order moments earlier. Basic attentiveness was missing. I had to point out that our table did not even have a water glass. When the food arrived, it was fine but completely forgettable. Nothing special or memorable. That changed quickly when I found a red produce rubber band on my plate. I joked to my wife, "I wonder which part of the fish this is," before trying to get our server's attention. Despite being seated in a very busy area of the restaurant, it took a long time for anyone to come by. The server replaced the dish and offered an apology that felt more obligatory than sincere. He even told me to "double check it for rubber bands" when the replacement arrived, which did little to inspire confidence. He said a manager would come to the table. No one did. Instead, I was repeatedly told, in front of my guests, that I had been given a "huge discount," allegedly sixty to seventy dollars. This was uncomfortable and unnecessary, especially since the issue was still not resolved. When the check arrived, the wrong dish had been removed and I was still being charged for both plates. I eventually had to call a manager through another server. When he arrived, he seemed resigned, as though this was not an unusual situation. He apologized and ultimately comped my plate, but the entire experience left us drained and exhausted. For a restaurant that is often described as a "must see" destination, the Grand Concourse fell far short. The space is beautiful and historic, but that alone cannot make up for inattentive service, avoidable mistakes, and an overall lack of hospitality. read more

We came to the Grand Concourse as a Holiday gathering with my entire family. There were 15 of us total. We did the Sunday buffet. The food was really good for a buffet and it was cool that it was spread out around the entirety of the restaurant. Stopped in for their Sunday brunch, do make a reservation and bring your patience with you, you'll NEED IT!!! Got there 15 minutes early, checked in and got seated around our reservation time. Things move slowly unfortunately, be it the lines, the service we got or trying to navigate around the people. Let's get to it. Food: nothing to write home about. My favorite was the freshly made donuts, outside of that, all others were just decent. I had high hopes for the prime rib, but it could be better. The ham was dried, and a lot of the sauces were out and weren't replenished. Salads looked like they had better days. Food Stations: Visit each food station to get an idea, if you want to try it or skip it, look at how many folks are in line, all the factors that's going to make you decide if you'll get the food or skip it. For me, I skipped the omelet station, as 10+ people were waiting just to place their order and a few waiting for their food. Service - nonexistent. We saw our server maybe 5 times, that includes asking for the bill, bill delivery and another time after the payment was processed. Depending on who you get as a server, it's night and day. Our server never explained anything to use, just asked if we wanted anything else other than water. I get it, it was super busy but at least try to show some effort. Service was attentive and pleasant, but the food was more on the average side for what it was. Fresh bread came out to the table as we waited for our drinks to arrive, a basket of warm rolls and seeded crackers. We ordered a plate of calamari which came with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. The squid was breaded and fried with a slight crunch, and not chewy at all. For a main dish, I ordered the parmesan crusted snapper topped with shrimp and served with rice and three small asparagus. Although flaky, the fish could have used a bit more sauce and the rice had very little of the coconut ginger flavor that was promised. I'd give the Grand Concourse 5 stars for the ambiance and experience, but only about 3 stars for the food. Some of the food was quite tasty, but some was fairly average to even below average (at one end, the salmon was quite tasty but on the other, the churros served at the chocolate fountain were unpalatable and extremely stale tasting). We sat in one of the side rooms but thankfully got a nice window seat and could look out toward the skyline. The best seats, albeit probably the loudest, would have been in the main hall with the grandest decor. There were many other side rooms that would definitely be less exciting spots to sit. It's just the luck of the draw. There is a LOT of variety at brunch, but the stations are spread out and some are located in areas you may not even realize they are. I'm glad our server chimed in with suggestions and let us know to explore one of the other rooms for homemade donuts and waffles. This is definitely a fun spot to get brunch with a unique experience. There is a variety of food that should suit just about everyone's tastes. That being said if you are looking for the best brunch food, you'd find better prepared dishes elsewhere. read more

Returned here the other day, excited to be back in this beautiful venue, but chose the River Room which overlooks the River. Hate to say this historic site should have been a 5 star review but once again the service was lacking. After being seated, we waited over 10 minutes for our server to appear at our table, and even had a lengthy conversation with the other server, Marsha, who took our drink order... Once our server did appear ( only know her name from the receipt), she was friendly but not as attentive as we would expect at a restaurant such as this. She was aware it was a special occasion, gave us our check, told us that a special dessert was being prepared, and didn't return to the table after dropping off a creme brûlée. Was not planning on spending 90 minutes for lunch, and it's beyond irritating watching other tables who were seated after us leave before us, including a large party of 8 or 9 right next to us... That said, good again was outstanding. Crab cake ( app this time) was delicious, Charley's seafood chowder tasty and full of seafood, and the Sunburst salad ( with chicken) yummy-- love the bleu cheese, mandarin oranges and cranberry flavors. This place has seriously declined. It is no longer worth paying the 60 dollars per person for any holiday buffet. Did I say 60? They raised it to 72! We had reservations for 530, waited for over 45 minutes past the reservation to be sat. Once at the table, we sat for another 15 minutes before deciding to get up without putting in for drinks because the waitress didnt show up. We had to flag down the hostess just to get waters. The food quality is not that great either. All of the utensils were gross, food was dry and mostly inedible. I seriously try to give places the benefit of the doubt but this is just sad. This is my 4th buffet here and most definitely my last. Honestly, I'm so disappointed that I even have to pay for this. It's Christmas day, and I'm leaving hungry, at a 72 dollar a person buffet. What does that tell you? There used to be a chocolate fountain, this year it's an empty spot with toilet paper on the floor. Not even joking. Beautiful restored historic train station provides a stunning atmosphere for guests. Great place to take out of town visitors. Very good, broad menu, but cuisine is not quite as good as it once was, though a solid 3-stars for fine dining. However, the Sunday brunch is close to five stars in terms of food. BEWARE: they routinely overbook reservations for the Sunday brunch. If your reservation isn't early in the day (before 11:30), be prepared to wait between 1 and 2.5 hours past your reservation time. It's like this ALL the time, not just Easter and Mother's Day. [We greatly dislike this practice and have gone frequently.] They say they leave buffet stations open 1-hour after the last seating, but they don't always restock them (especially the make-your-own waffle and donut bar). Not saying don't do it - it's great. Just be prepared to WAIT if you go to church on Sunday mornings. read more

Beautiful & iconic Pittsburgh restaurant in the old train station - especially decorated for Christmas. I was there on a business trip recently & we ate here with a group of about 16 colleagues. We confirmed in advance that they would be able to accommodate a vegan option despite there being no vegan options on the menu. Our server knew I was there when we arrived & came to talk to me about options. She then had the chef come out to confirm and he was really nice. I ended up having a salad (which was so huge I couldn't finish it) as an app. My entree was rice in a tomato sauce with veggies and it was so delicious!! I then had a glass of port for dessert which came in a larger glass than I was expecting and it was quite a full pour for a glass of port (couldn't finish that either) so maybe they're just generous. Attended my first Thanksgiving buffet with a friend. They certainly know what they are doing. Our reservation was at 3:30 and it was bustling. We were seated within 20 minutes of our reservation time and had a great table with a view of Station Square and the river. Our server greeted us promptly and took our drink orders. I got a mojito which was very refreshing. The serving stations were abundant from salads to rolls to a carving station to the regular buffet line to desserts to a pasta station. Items included turkey, prime rib, shrimp, freshly made pumpkin donuts, among all the rest. Our server checked on us without us feeling rushed. It was a very worthwhile experience in a classic architectural building. Oh, and they have valet parking. I wish I had known beforehand to have saved us a walk from the parking garage. read more

We went to Grand Concourse to celebrate our friend's 40th birthday and it was a blast! The place is gorgeous! Beautiful bar and seating area, they also have a coat check in which is nice during the winter months. We were seated at the back where we had a nice view of the city, but if you're going there during the colder months bring a sweater. There was a bit of a draft there and could feel cool air. The service was fantastic, our server, Herb was personable, attentive, hilarious, and professional. He took very good care of our table! They bring out a bread basket that comes with regular butter and salmon butter. That salmon butter was delicious! We ordered the spicy tuna roll, calamari, and lobster bisque. All of it was delicious! Calamari was cooked perfectly and the spicy tuna had jalapeños on top which added to the spiciness. I ordered the ultimate seafood mixed trio which had grilled salmon, crab cake, and coconut shrimp with coconut ginger rice and vegetables. The coconut was subtle, which was perfect for me, and all the seafood on my plate was perfectly cooked and delicious. My wife ordered the cedar plank salmon and enjoyed her meal as well. The food was amazing especially the filet mignon, that just melted in your mouth like butter. The building was just beautiful since it was built into an old train station. And the view of the river, was magnificent. The only thing that wasn't as up to par as rest would be the service. We were there for three hours after only ordering two menu items. Start from the beginning, we're served a basket of homemade garlic rolls and sesame crackers with salmon spread which was exceptional! asked for another basket was so good! Then got the starter appetizer of the crispy calamari! Best I've ever had in my life! The portion was so huge it was made with a sweet chili sauce I could have had that alone! Then our dinner came, husband ordered king grab which was massive I got the salmon with coconut ginger rice it was so tender and delicious!! We were stuffed! Without asking our wonderful waitress brought us out a crème Brulé that said "Happy Anniversary" with a card signed by the whole staff!! It was so thoughtful and beautiful! Came here for a staff holiday lunch. They had one waitress handle a group of 20. They probably should've had one more waitress help, but perhaps they didn't have enough staff to do so. I had iced tea to drink and what they brought out look like light-sepia colored water. And it tasted like it too. Later in the meal between the time they served the entree and dessert, they brought us a refill, and the tea had actually had time to steep. I don't know why their tea wasn't done in time, but they never should've served us that tea. The dynamite snapper wasn't quite dynamite. It was OK and the crab meat was probably the best part of it. But again there was nothing dynamite about the fish. The sides were an uninspired and flavorless, mashed potatoes and green beans. The dessert look good, but I couldn't eat it because of my dairy intolerance. I brought it home from my girlfriend and she said it was good.
