First time here! Came on a Monday night not packed at all, quiet with beautiful views! The staff was beyond incredible and so polite! Start from the beginning, we're served a basket of homemade garlic rolls and sesame crackers with salmon spread which was exceptional! asked for another basket was so good! Then got the starter appetizer of the crispy calamari! Best I've ever had in my life! The portion was so huge it was made with a sweet chili sauce I could have had that alone! Then our dinner came, husband ordered king grab which was massive I got the salmon with coconut ginger rice it was so tender and delicious!! We were stuffed! Without asking our wonderful waitress brought us out a crème Brulé that said "Happy Anniversary" with a card signed by the whole staff!! It was so thoughtful and beautiful! My past experiences at the Grand Concourse in Pittsburgh had always been wonderful, which made my visit on Sunday, March 15th at 1:00 PM especially disappointing. We made reservations a week in advance for 1:00 PM and arrived at 12:45 PM. After paying $20 for parking and tip, we stood in a very crowded lobby for 51 minutes despite having a reservation. Once we were finally seated, it took another 10 minutes for a waitress to appear. We were not offered menus or given any explanation of the available meal options. We ordered drinks and then waited another 15 minutes before the waitress returned so we could place our order. We chose the Grand Buffet, which unfortunately turned out to be one of several mistakes that afternoon. Most of the buffet stations had nearly empty food bins. What little food remained looked picked over, and much of it was cold and stale. This seemed to be the condition at nearly every station throughout the restaurant. To make matters worse, the final bill was shocking: two mixed drinks, two waters, and four buffet meals totaled $235.00. The Grand Concourse was once a true Pittsburgh dining icon, but based on this experience, it no longer lives up to that reputation. Terrific hosting of our 24-person family get-together at this elegant venue! We had a wonderful event with delicious food and a perfect hostess! Right from the start, communication with their events team was always prompt, clear, and efficient. Price options were exact and reasonable. Room options and deadlines were clear. Their great event manager, Brian George, was friendly, available, and responsive. The restaurant is easy to find, just off E. Carson St. under the Smithfield Street Bridge, about a 500-ft walk from the Station Square station on the Silver, Red, and Blue lines. $12 Valet parking on the east side of the restaurant was quick and easy, and not much more costly than the $8-$10 self-parking about 0.2-miles up the street, and they would have discounted $8 off the self-parking fee for the event. The Grand Concourse is a truly majestic restaurant and bar, in a train station on the National Register of Historic Places built in 1901, where the patriarch of our family took the train to summer camp in his youth. Stained-glass ceilings, marble columns, ornate brass and dark-wood (mahogany?) decor with historic photos, and a long elegant photo-ready staircase up fromm the main dining concourse. We were in the spacious Board Room off the main concourse, slightly less ornate but still lovely. In addition to ample comfortable seating for all of us around a U-shaped table, they provided appetizers on a side-table and a large-screen TV for a slide-show we put together. The high ceiling didn't echo, and we all could hear each other, even while we played a self-made playlist. The kids danced a lot, and the most-fun guest danced with them! (Shout-out to you, Duncan :-) Staci, our event hostess, was excellent! She was ready when we came in the door, helpful in setting up our A/V, and always attentive with prompt friendly professional bar and food service. She and her staff made sure we were happy every moment, providing personal touches that made each of us feel welcome and valued. We'll ask for Staci when we return! Food was delicious, from a varied and generous charcuterie and hot flavorful chicken satay, to endless fresh breads, bright maple-vinaigrette salads, our selection of perfectly cooked tender moist bronzed salmon and blue-cheese-buttered sirloin, with roasted vegetable ravioli for our veggie guests. They made spaghetti for our 4 and 5-year olds. (Thank you Staci for that timely child-friendly offer!) Key lime pie was enjoyably tart and sweet and fresh-flavored. Several of us came back to the pleasant Gandy Dancer Saloon for the weekday 3:30 to 6:30pm happy hour (as of early Sep 2024). Nice selection of known brands and tasty well-drinks, tasty small plates (plus the full restaurant menu which we didnt indulge this time), friendly efficient service and well-crafted cocktails. Went to Grand Concourse for the first time on 3-8-2026 the food outstanding. The server we had Charae was the best we ever had,she was attentive to all all needs and asked a lot of questions about us. She found out it was my mothers birthday and my anniversary then she proceeded to bring out a decorative plate for her 75 birthday and 26 anniversary. Venue is beautiful up to date decor. Entering the private room for our Mom's 90th birthday party we were met by Stacy. Stacy was snippy and unfriendly. Stacy lacked patience with our guests while taking orders. Stacy's demeanor and tone was negative. Stacy never smiled or gave a simple greeting. The appetizers were terrible. Egg rolls were nasty and lacked flavor. Chicken kebabs were horrible lacked flavor and the presentation was horrible. The crackers for the cheese and crackers were stale. The pink lemonade was toooo sweet. The steaks were rare although we requested medium well. Upon the party ending Stacy would always come to the table that myself and my siblings were taking decorations from instead of going to tables that were ready to be cleaned. I had a VERY bad experience at Grand Concourse tonight. We made a reservation for 4:45pm, called to asked if we could push it back to 5:15pm. The hostess said yes, but didn't ask for any information. Thought that was odd so I asked, "do you need my name or anything?" And she explicitly responded "nope". I showed up, and they said they canceled my reservation.....HEH? We told them what happened over the phone, and one of the three hostesses looked at me, in the most "I don't care, what do you want me to do?" look. I know mistakes happen, and maybe I should have pushed harder to provide my information when changing the reservation. But I was very disappointed at their attitude and how unprofessionally they had handled the whole situation. Anyways, they had a booth seat available at the bar -- so we took the spot. Waited 30minutes for our waiter to come and take our order. 30 minutes. With just two glasses of water. No starter bread, didn't take our order, no silverware, nothing. We were told to wait twice in the 30 minutes of time. At this point. We were obviously frustrated. We were visiting from out of town, and it was our last night. The whole night felt ruined with a series of bad experiences. My husband was VERY upset at this point. Our reservation cancelled, restaurant acting like it was our fault, our server not serving us for half an hour. COME ON. What is going on?! He spoke to our server about how this entire experience at the Grand Concourse did not feel acceptable, a restaurant that we expected to have a certain level of attentiveness. Thankfully, he understood - and everything was fast from then on. We got the Schnitzel, a Prime Rib, two draft beers. Beers were good, prime rib was pretty great, and I would skip the schnitzel. The worst restaurant experience I have ever had, and I dined in more than 35 countries. First, they looked extremely annoyed and were rude because we had a baby in a stroller/carseat with us. One waiter took us to the busy part of the restaurant, I had the carseat in my hand, and the table wasn't ready yet. I put the carseat down next to the table to situate the chairs before I put the carseat up. Another waiter came up and said "I would never put my baby on the ground", I was so shocked at the uncalled for commentary and rudeness (I guess she was making a dig at the original waiter not having the table ready but it was an insult to me as a new mom more than him). The new waiter also proceeded to tell several times how much the bill was in front or my guests! Knowing full well I was covering the bill!!! The food came with a piece of rubber in it and when called the waiter asked "we can give you a refund" instead of offering to change the dish right away. I had to tell him "I want a new plate"... manager never came. They were all upset about being there and the whole experience was disappointing and absolutely unnecessary. read more

My friend has called multiple times and been completely ignored. No response, no accountability, nothing. They secretly added a $40 tip to our bill without our knowledge or consent. That's not a mistake--that's theft. This place doesn't just have terrible service--they flat-out don't care and operate with zero integrity. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague. I'm giving two stars because our waiter and the manager were great. The ambiance gets the second star. Cool building great views however the food killed one star. The wait time for food and drink killed another. The dirtiness of the bathrooms take away another star. Food- Had to send two 22oz ribeyes back. Ordered medium rare and the first came out 30 seconds short of being a hockey puck. Next one came out and I think it was cooked for a total of 30 seconds as it was so raw the steak knife wouldn't even cut through it. Lobster bisque was good but lukewarm at best. Smashed potatoes could've used some seasoning and they were very hot either. Are the scallops but they were a little overcooked and chewy. On the bright side everyone else enjoyed their food but disappointing to have a $105 steak dinner and didn't get to eat it. Thankfully it was comped. Wait time for food was crazy long despite the place not being very busy. We were there for just over two total hours. Cocktails also came after a long wait. Bathrooms were dirty and unkept. Too nice of a place to have them not attended to constantly. Again thank you to the manager for comping the dinner and a drink. Well came back as a request to see if a normal Sunday Brunch was going to make a difference. Food was much better than Mother's Day in the sense: replenished, hot, plentiful and was not appearing like the savages just took over. The donuts always great and the waffles were the lightest I have ever had. The Prime Rib yet again was a disappointment. Near rare and that was on an end cut. The crust was a bit salty and just lacked the flavor, since it was still out in the fields. The one photo you can see the beef in the lower right hand corner. I was not photographing a butcher shop. I was told that the chefs/cooks were working on doing better. Well first off, turn on the ovens and leave the meat in there until it reaches an internal temperature about 145. Complete lack of knowledge, or is it lack experience? I gave it a 4, as the other items were good (5 stars to omelet and pasta stations). I asked our server, Taylor (highly suggest requesting) how many Prime Ribs were taken back, since we had one at our table be sent back to the kitchen to be grilled and the table next to us had two sent back. Eight, and that was from one server. How is that efficient? Will I go back? Sure, possibly. Though I may stick to a sit down meal instead. Kudos to managers Colin and Taylor. read more

A lovely spot for a Sunday brunch with an unbeatable view, inside and out! The architecture is incomparable to anything else you'll find in Pittsburgh. I'd recommend being the first reservation, it gets busy and fills up fast. I'd put my things down at the table, then grab your plates and enjoy your surroundings. As far as options go, they have a wide selection of sweet and savory falling under breakfast, lunch and dinner. As far as buffets go, it was pretty good! They had a nice balance of made to order versus plate and go. The one complaint I had was that nothing was labeled. It would be nice not to have to do detective work to figure out the options, but beyond that it's not great for anyone with a dietary restriction! My partner has a walnut allergy and another person in our group is vegetarian. It limited their experience, especially with the nut allergy and no labels on the desserts. read more

I was part of a group of about 30 people for a wedding dinner. We had about half of a room to ourselves, with a physical separation between us and the rest of the room. A choice of four entrees was offered. I picked the prime rib, a large slice, roasted medium and well seasoned on the outside. Included a skewer with two large shrimp and two fairly small scallops, also well roasted. Plate also included green beans, quite tasty, and mashed potato. First course was Martha's Vineyard Salad, surprisingly tasty odd greens with chunks of blue cheese, sweet red onion slices, and a lightly applied maple raspberry dressing that probably made the salad. But not only was the food good. For a large group meal the key is the service. They were fast and efficient, taking the individual entree orders and bringing the food with dispatch and accuracy, and coming by to remove used plates, refill water carafes, etc, with frequency. The buffet brunch on Sunday costs $42 per adult and includes foods such as fruits, salads, potatoes, bagels, donuts, pecan rolls, apple strudels, waffles, French-toast sticks, biscuits and gravy, pastas, cheeses, scrambled eggs, omelettes, bacon, sausage, chicken tenders, smoked salmon, cocktail shrimp, mussels, prime rib, a chocolate fountain, etcetera. The menus for lunch and dinner list foods such as salads, clam chowder, ahi tuna poke, calamari, oysters, scallops, crab cakes, lobster, Alaskan king crab legs, snapper, salmon, sea bass, mahi mahi, duck, filet mignon, etcetera. For many years, my husband and I have eaten meals here. For our most recent visit, we ate the Sunday buffet brunch. After we checked in with the seating hostess, many other groups of customers arrived. We felt thankful that we were toward the beginning of the line so we did not have to wait long. My husband and I each filled up a few plates of food from the breakfast buffet. We really enjoyed the flavors of everything that we ate. The best aspect of this buffet is the very large and varied selection of foods. (If you look at my previous reviews, you will see that 8 years ago, I rated this breakfast buffet as 3 stars. Clearly, the employees have improved their performance since then.) During our meal, our waitress brought us a second bottle of water. The atmosphere at this fine restaurant was luxurious with high ceilings and lots of wood used in the era. It was once a large rail station. The menu contained a continental cuisine with an array of special spices, marinated meats and seafood. The "sesame crusted ahi tuna" caught my eye and was sumptuous. Crab cakes and shrimp were chosen by others. Neil was our waiter and told stories about the Pittsburgh area and described the entries with clarity and humor! Great building with a rich history as a former railroad station. The attached saloon (The Gandy Dancer) has a happy hour, which was a pretty good deal! The food was the star of the happy hour. The happy hour drinks were just meh. I had the margarita and the sparkling sangria ( (both $7). Not impressed. The seafood roll ($15) was pretty good, it was a decent size and had enough seafood- lobster, shrimp and crab. It needed a little more seasoning! My friends enjoyed the roll, as well as the crabcake sliders. We also had dinner that same week in the riverfront dining room. It overlooks the city and is a fantastic view! I had the crab crusted mahi mahi ($35), which was a great choice and very filling! I also tried the goat cheese appetizer, which was yummy. I had wine by the glass with dinner, which was around $12 a glass. Service was pretty good, we did wait quite a while for some items to be delivered when it got busy in the dining room. read more

This was my second visit with this time being the fall menu. I absolutely recommend the tortellini and the shrimp scampi. Our server Jesse was wonderful. So attentive and took our photos on the steps at the end. Booked a reservation for lunch on a Saturday, however wouldn't say one was needed! I was surprised the restaurant was not crowded on a weekend, however it was a freezing cold day. Started with the Blood Orange & Sage mocktail ($5.50) and it was delicious! I love with menus offer non-alcoholic drinks, especially at great prices. The table started with 2 types of seafood soup: Charlie's chowder (red Mediterranean fish stew) and New England Clam Chowder (classic white chowder). The Charlie's chowder had a bit of a kick, but both were favorites at the table! I got the Bronzed Salmon as my main, and it was cooked perfectly! The dry rub combination with the mango salsa was fresh and delicious, and I was thrilled to see the seasonable vegetable was broccolini.
