Been seeing this place pop up on my Yelp when searching for bbq so I decided to stop by last week. Got home and thought i was going to enjoy some good food! That was not the case for me. I ordered the ribs and hot link combo and I got my wife the brisket combo. Food was very very very bland, I can't emphasize the blandness enough. everything was dry and over cooked. Brisket didn't have any juiciness to it. Hot link tasted like a store bought Bars hot link that was cooked earlier in the day then reheated for my order. Cornbread,mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy were all very bland. You would think the gravy for the mash would have some flavor being that it's gravy but it didn't have any taste to it. We visited Gracie's last night since we hadn't tried there BBQ. We ordered combo chicken, ribs, and hot links, and sides were pesto pasta, beans over rice, and green beans. The meats were just okay, the ribs were somewhat cold, chicken and hot links you could taste smoked flavor. The green beans and beans over rice had no flavor; however, pesto pasta tasted the good. If you have high blood pressure, their meats aren't seasoned with 'salt'. This would be an excellent restaurant to visit. read more

This used to be my favorite BBQ place - even traveling here for dinner after we relocated from Vallejo, but on my last visit, I paid $51 for 8 ribs and 3 links. Each rib was no longer than 3 inches long. Along with the decrease in quantity, quality has suffered quite a bit too. The small ribs were dry and overcooked. I went here on 1/26/19 due to the reviews and this was the worst bbq I have ever had for 20+ dollars, it wasn't even bbq because there was no sauce on it nor on the side, I was served a tbsp size of potato salad and mac n cheese for my to go order, the ribs were so hard I was only able to eat two bones the rest was like splinters, the link was burnt as well, it was a really bad experience so I guess I will stick with Everett & Jones at least you get your moneys worth and not dry unseasoned food...shame on you Gracies, I had high hopes considering I'm new to the area. read more

The setting of this restaurant is very appealing visually, as for the cuisine it leaves no real desire for seconds. I placed an order for myself and my family, the order consisted of three rib combos. The selected meats were cooked well with a nice smoky flavor, as for their sauce it was a basic barbecue sauce that can be easily compared to your average over the counter barbecue sauce selection, nothing special at all in my book. The plates came with your selection of sides, which were small in size for the price charged. One plate had coleslaw which was average because there was nothing that stood out when compared to any other coleslaw. Another side dish was mac n' cheese, I personally don't know who gave them their recipe or who called it mac n' cheese, but trust me when I tell you it's a far cry from being mac n' cheese, it had a spaghetti like pasta tomato based sauce on it and the cheese was missing...Not to forget to mention it had a puddle of red colored oil at the bottom of the styrofoam plate, can you say disgusting?!?! So disappointing to say the least. The only thing besides the meat that was good, was the rice and beans and their cornbread. Besides those two side dishes all the rest were mediocre and that's putting it mildly. The price for all three plates totaled $71.36 for non existent small side dishes and doctored up over the counter barbecue sauce. I will pass up on returning to this location, because it's overpriced for the serving size and quality you receive. Those of us who've had real barbecue will pass up on mediocre barbecue at an inflated price. It gets two stars because the meat was decent without their barbecue sauce. First I need to say that the service has always been great and continues to be great. Now this, for many years, Gracies was one of my favorite places to eat at. I would eat there once or twice a month. I loved their chicken, sandwiches, bbqd meats, red beans and rice, coleslaw, just about everything. Their food tasted like something made with love. Unfortunately, it has gone down hill in the past year or so. Their quality isn't the same. The meats come out dry. The sides are an afterthought. They've update their sides, and I can understand d updating, but they got rid of red beans and rice and a couple others, that wee really good and some replaced them with sides that are awful. The cheesy mac is not good at all. I've never been a fan of their potato salad, the cornbread I got was crunchy and crumbly at the same time, it was clearly old and being heated up in the microwave. Hands down the best barbecue I've ever had, if not for the authenticity (I suppose that's debatable?), but for the sheer size of the portions, and the flavor of course. For two people: - 2 huge chicken thighs (I usually think chicken is the most boring choice you can get, but this chicken is juicy and wonderful and my favorite part of the meal) - 2 huge drumsticks (see above) - 2 huge links (hawt seeing the bf get into his spicy weiners)...wait, there might actually be 4 - countless ribs (fall-off-the-bone tender...I can eat them with a knife and fork without wasting meat, which means a lot to me if you know me) - 4 huge squares of cornbread - a bowl of beans and rice - 4 sides: green beans that remind me of when I was a kid, potato salad, slaw, and macaroni salad We have big-ass appetites, and we've only been able to finish this meal in one sitting once. For anyone on here who has this place highly rated, especially the one reviewer who called it "the best barbque in Vallejo," you people unfortunately do not know what good barbque truly is. There are 3 major complaints I have about this place: Quality Price Service You might think that these are the 3 most important components in a restaurant. I would agree. First off, the food is not good. My red beans and rice were bland, semi-warm and uninspired. Red beans in rice are supposed to be a spicy, flavorful dish. At Gracie's you might not even know they were supposed to be red beans and rice, if you weren't told first. They were AWFUL. The red beans and rice at POPEYE'S blows them away. Red beans and rice is one of those dishes that if you cannot serve right, please excuse yourself from the barbque restaurant business. My tri-tip was terrible. Again: no flavor. It was as bland as could be. It was more like bad roast beef than tri-tip. They gIve you a lot, but mine was so bad it made me queasy and I could not finish it. I also had some chicken soup. Very bad. All the wrong flavors and a luke-warm temperature. The one thing that was good was the corn bread. This isn't enough to save them from a poor review, however. The service left much to be desired. Our host/ waitress barely smiled at us. Maybe she was having a bad day. Still: It did not help our over-all experience. Finally: Price. ASTRONOMICAL. RIDICULOUS. INSULTING. Are these people serious? $23 for a combo dinner plate of BARBQUE?? It's BARBQUE people, not Filet Mignon. Also, you are in DOWNTOWN VALLEJO. In this economy?! How can you possibly excuse charging these prices for this poor quality barbque? The price is what makes this place unacceptable. I tried to slather on some bbq sauce but it couldn't hide the fact that the ribs were tough, the chicken too dry, hot links were ok but nothing special, rice & beans are made from the Zataran's box, cole slaw with raisins was just straight-up weird, green beans didnt taste like anything, potato salad sucked, and the best part of the meal... the cornbread that I drizzled with honey. And the sweet tea tasted like regular iced tea so I had to ask the waitress "is this sweet tea" and she said yes. I shouldve said, "Um. No." I've made better sweet tea at home. They add a bunch of generic-tasting sides to make you think you're getting your money's worth, but YOU'RE NOT. I was lied to...if you are looking for brisket- STAY AWAY- there aint' none here!!!! We have been craving BBQ for a few weeks now. I live in Redwood City and have yet to find a good Texas-type BBQ joint in the Bay Area. One of the problems is that no one in these parts knows how to do a good, slow-smoked brisket. Another problem is that it's difficult to find really authentic BBQ sauce. I guess California BBQ sauce is sweet. We are visiting in Vallejo and since I have tried Earl's and can't remember it being memorable, I decided to try Gracie's Family BBQ. Now, one of my criteria is that they have to have brisket. So, I called ahead and asked the person who answered if they had brisket, she replied, "Yes". Great, off we went to Gracie's. We arrived to a pleasant looking restaurant that was quite busy. Good. Staff was nice- great! The restaurant is pretty small so we sat on the patio next to a heat lamp. The waitress explained to me that they only have (1) high chair- so this is a "family" restaurant? The high chair never came to the table. As I was looking at the menu, I quickly scanned it for the brisket that I was craving....um...where's the brisket? Brisket? Oh where, oh where is it???? They told me on the phone there was brisket, but I don't see it. I'm sure there has to be some mistake, right? NO! When the waitress came to our table I asked her about the brisket that I was told about, but didn't see on the table. She told me that they have Tri-tip, NOT brisket. What?1? I explained that someone told me on the phone that there was brisket. Her reply: "Well, we have tri-tip and it is basically the same thing, just a different cut of meat." Ok, well, if I ordered filet mignon and received top sirloin, I wouldn't be too happy. Would you? Yet, they are "different cuts of meat" Sheesh! I was lied to? Come on people. I know my cuts of meat and tri-tip is no brisket. This better be some good food... So I ordered the tri-tip plate with the green beans and macaroni salad and my husband ordered the spare ribs with the red beans and potato salad. Let's break it down: Tri-tip- I admit, it was flavorful- pretty good. Not medium rare, but it was good. Spare ribs- some of the pieces were dry and tough on the outside, but some of the pieces were pretty tender and good. Green beans- way too over cooked- soggy. Macaroni salad- eh Potato salad- eh Red Beans & Rice- We were told that the beans weren't "red" but they were actually using pinto beans- I have no idea why my husband decided to order them anyways. The rice was so soggy and is this old leftover spanish rice? What the hell? Are these canned pinto beans?? Corn bread- now, I really wanted to love this. There was honey on the table, butter waiting to melt all over it, but it was pretty oily and bland. *sigh* Sweet Tea- I was really excited for this! Darn!!!!- it was watered down. I'm kinda confused as to why so many people like this place? It isn't horrible. But it isn't great. And probably the most bland BBQ I've had in my life. I have come to understand Vallejo isn't exactly the mecca for foodies but come on. Don't market yourself as a great BBQ joint unless you have something to brag about. Service has been iffy here. Once I got an older gentleman who was way on top of his game. Quick with the coffee and tea refills and very nice and struck up a good convo. Other times i've had some high school girl acting like she could care less. The portions are either shut the front door HUGE or barely enough to call a "meal". The menu has been cut down to not many options unless you come here for breakfast/brunch. The sandwiches + two sides I thought would be filling.. so when i asked for corn bread and pasta i was a little disappointed to have a tiny half cup of cold pesto pasta (like the kind you see in the glass counters at safeway that have been out for a day or so) and 1 tiny piece of cornbread. The Food: Cafeteria...have you ever had a bbq day at any cafeteria...anywhere...because if you did it was prolly still better than this. I'm upset!!!!!!!! I have been eating Gracie's since they had the food truck on Springs Road. I recently went and bought the spare rib plate. Tthe ribs were H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E! they were dry, untrimmed and unseasoned, The edges and flap were hard as a rock. 20 plus dollars and I tossed it. If I was dining in I would have sent it back. I've never been fond of the sides, they are acceptable, but nothing to write home about. The sauce is better than anything I've ever seen at a grocery store, but this particular day was the pits (pun intended). An employee (I guess on break) was in the dining area sitting with a girl, he told her to get him a drink from the fountain. Coat on purse in hand she proceeded behind the counter and fetched him a drink...eh unsanitary and unprofessional. I haven't figured out which days are the bad day but when you go on the right day the ribs are flavorful, tender and properly trimmed. Like I mentioned in my Michael's BBQ review, there are only 2 BBQ joints in Vallejo that I will care to mention. Gracie's happens to be the other one. Whereas Michael's BBQ has some of the best tasting rib due to their sauce, Gracie's is on the other end of my BBQ enthusiasm. This is due to the fact that at Gracie's, their food is smoked to perfection! Even sausage and chicken is given the special treatment here. When that plate reaches your table, be prepared to eat some of the best cooking in town. The decor and overall ambiance of this place is really nice. It has an old diner feel to it, and that really helps in setting the unique mood there. Be sure to scan all the walls for all sorts of obscure retro paraphenelia. Now, I believe that part of a really good BBQ experience should be the sides. This is where Michaeal's falters a bit. The sides are good, yes, but their nothing worth writing home about. Corn bread and beans are on the so so side, so don't come here expecting to have some really wonderful sides. In this category, Michael's really excels, as it seems they just put more time into their sides. Wmy boyfriend had to get everthing for us...hot sauce, sugar, extra plates and napkins behind the bar because our waiter took so long. I think I'm done with Gracies, which makes me sad because I REALLY like the food. But their service is just the worst. And there always seems to be a problem with my food. Like today, it was not very busy. Our order was taken pretty quickly, our food came pretty quickly. Then, we never saw our waiter again. And my bacon cheddar pulled pork sandwich was missing the bacon, which just made me sad. But I couldn't even complain about it, because our waiter never came back. So we waited. Another girl came to bring us our bill, and when I went to pay, told them my bacon wasn't on my sandwich. I basically got a "Oh, too bad. I'd charge you for the other pulled pork sandwich but this one is cheaper anyway." That's it. Pretty disappointing. My number one BBQ spot in Vallejo! The owner is so nice and most of the staff is pretty nice as well! Usually on Friday and Saturday nights they have a live band and boy do they get down! I can't say I am impressed at all with this place. First. Terrible service. We saw our waiter three times total. Once when we flagged him down to take our order. Second when we got our food. Third when he brought us the check - we had to take it up to the counter to pay as he never returned. The food is nothing you couldn't do at home with some effort. I had just gone to a BBQ the prior week where friends cooked up some awesome ribs and chicken. Those were more flavorful and tender than Gracie's. A telling event was when we were trying to walk up to the front and pay. The server tried to come through the passage way with arms full of plates of food. She nearly bowled us over and clearly wasn't going to let us pass first. I'm all for stepping aside for someone working but there is a general lack of friendliness to the customer. With the very high prices you pay to eat here, you should get better service and better flavor. On the plus side, the portions are huge so at least you get the quantity side of the equation. I like BBQ but this time it was just okay. I had the sausage with corn bread, green beans, and potato salad. My boyfriend had the brisket with a salad. He liked his.. I shouldn't have gotten the sausage. Corn bread was REALLY dry, green beans were decent but obviously canned (fresh would taste better and they could get them from the Farmers Mkt), and potato salad was really good! :) Sausage was extremely greasy and oozed red nasty oil from it.
