Very surprising lunch today. I enjoyed the Spicy chicken sandwich that included soup or salad and French fries. To start with I chose the tortilla soup that was spectacular. That soup I probably could have had for my entire lunch! The sandwich with crispy bacon , cheese and lettuce and tomato was very tasteful. Fries were good as well. Not McDonald's but good. First time we attempted to eat here it was super packed, we ended up leaving because the wait was too long. Second time we arrived it was also crowded but they did have seats at the kitchen bar. We chose to sit there and could really get a close up view of the cooking operations. Pretty cool! I recommend making reservations especially for a large group. I called curbside for Mac and cheese. Wasn't sure if I could order it at the 10;30 hour, but Kayla (working curbside) assured me I could. She was beyond amazing, but I did wonder why I didn't hear Bruce on the phone taking my order... then to get there and find out he was no longer working curbside took an automatic 5 star review to 2. I called to speak with the gm, but he was too busy to chat. I'm not sure what Bruce did, or where he is, but he needs to be back working curbside. He's most pleasant (as was Kayla), but Bruce is an "old-soul" who enjoys chatting about absolutely anything--all the while taking my card, and bringing me back an Arnold Palmer I didn't even ask for but just something to keep me cool in this hot--Texas heat. I think I first met him a bit after 2020, and I remember telling him my brother has the same name. We laughed; we talked about family and all sorts of things...he always spoke to my chihuahua Pumpkin and asked about her, and though we are from different worlds, it's the customer service he shares regarding how Grace's started; the etymology of the name; the recipes that keep me happy to order from here. I remember speaking with him on another occasion regarding why Grace's took away my favorite dish "smothered chicken with dirty rice," and we vibed on that and he shared how I wasn't the only one upset about that dish leaving, but that I could come around Thanksgiving "2024" when Grace's would bring back the dirty rice. It's the small talk; the personable employees that keep me a customer, not just the food. Kayla went above and beyond and this is less about her, but mostly about my regret at not being able to have another-personable conversation with Bruce and it literally brings tears to my eyes because you guys don't understand how much your clientele leaves such an impression on patrons of your business. So, I'll leave you with this because it's a huge miss that Bruce is not longer in curbside and for me, it's not about the food, but about the experience...and every time I interacted with Bruce, I felt at home. The horseradish sauce for dipping was very good with these. Philly Cheese Steak. Not the biggest Sandwich world, but the ingredients are quality. The bread was soft, yet firm and chewy. It held everything together nicely and absorb the aju perfectly. The Steak was a nice cut of beef that had great texter and flavor. The only thing that I could say negatively about the dish was it was noticeably salty. It is a bit pricy for a sandwich, but it was very tasty. I would say the only big issues I had with the meal was several items were overly salty. Not that you could not eat them, just a bit too much salt. Dishes are a few $ more here, but you can see that they use quality ingredients and items are prepared nicely. This is the type of place you bring your mom for a nice mothers day lunch. The food here is always fantastic. Whenever I'm in town I visit. I've only been for breakfast (or rather just ordered brunch/breakfast food. I ordered the fried chicken biscuit and a side of their pancakes. The pancakes are delish, buttery, and coke with caramel bourbon sauce, Mexican vanilla and strawberries. For the record: One of the best Houston brunches I've had to date. The kicker is that it was fire as a to-go order, so I can only imagine the dine-in experience! Everything we ordered: waffles & wings, strawberry pancakes (that syrup concoction that accompanies the pancakes is pure heaven), and the southern fried pork chop breakfast was delicious! Grace's for dinner on a Friday. First you should know that you can do valet parking or you can park for free in the parking garage next door which is what we did. The garage has lots of parking spaces and an elevator along with stairs. Several nice host were waiting to greet us and show us to our table. The restaurant has several different rooms and all of the rooms seemed nice with lots of light to see the menu and the food. We started with fried green tomatoes which are 4 slices of tomatoes that sit on a nice spicy sauce. Then I got a salad while some people at my table got a cup of soup both were large and tasted nice. Then I got the fried seafood platter this was catfish with shrimp and a veggie. This was just ok, I have had better seafood at other restaurants. Last I had a piece of cake which was very large and very good. We also had a couple of bottles of white and red wine. The service was on point and our server was good. Finally made it to Grace's on my way through Houston. I was stuck on what to try, but settled on the Braised Short Ribs on top of mashed potatoes with a side of Brussels sprouts. Came here for HRW and really enjoyed it! I love a good deal and this didn't disappoint. I got the seafood campechana which was absolutely perfect, wouldn't change a thing. The gumbo had an odd taste, I didn't love it, but I was able to finish it. After these two courses, I was already full but there was a third course for which I ordered burger and fries. The fries were crispy and seasoned (my favorite), and I have yet to try the burger but the bun was nice and pillowy. The complimentary cornbread looked good but I was unable to try this! This place gets pretty busy during the weekend. They originally tried to seat our table of 5 at a 4 person table. I asked for our group to move to a bigger table and they did accommodate. Delicious food, beautiful ambiance! I came here for Houston Restaurant Week (HRW) and it was overall a great experience, but with a few hiccups. Sticky Ribs: 4/5, These ribs melted in my mouth! The flavor was also amazing. I was disappointed by the serving size though. Chicken Tortilla Soup: 5/5, This soup blew away my expectations. I wasn't expecting much since chicken tortilla soup is so commonplace, but this was the best one I've ever had. Simply impeccable. Beef tips and rice: 3/5, This dish was exactly what you'd expect, and to be honest it was nothing special. But it was either this or the pork chop with Chinese-style fried rice (???????) so I got this. Carrot Cake: 5/5, this wasn't part of HRW but I had to try it. It's a huge slice, and it's so worth it! Everything you'd want in a carrot cake. Service: 0/5, for a restaurant at this price point I expect impeccable service. I came here on a relatively quiet night, I didn't see too many other customers around me. While I did come with a large party (7 people), the process of paying took 1.5 hours! When we finished our meal, it was very difficult to get the attention of staff members. We also all ordered off the HRW menu so I thought the process of paying would've been straightforward (each meal is a fixed price), but the waiter spent about 45 minutes charging our cards. We had plans after dinner so this put a huge delay in our night. Overall I liked the food, but I was disappointed in the service.
