Graces is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston! The customer service is always great! I love sitting outside and getting a view of the city. My favorites are the stuffed poblano pepper. It has the perfect crisp on the outside because it's deep fried and the Cajun cream crawfish sauce on top is super complimentary to the dish. I also like the Cajun stuffed chicken. It has the same sauce as the pepper, but it's stuffed with crab meat on the inside. Also the tortilla soup is super flavorful and the tortilla chips inside create a dynamic in texture that I love. This is the perfect after church spot to grab breakfast! The wings were fried to perfection and the pancake was soft and buttery. I sat at the bar and the service was attentive! I visited Grace's for brunch this Saturday. Located on Kirby you have your turn in the side street to park as their lot is behind the restaurant and is valet only. There isn't a charge just tip. We were sat immediately even tho I saw many people that it appeared they were waiting on tables. My wife and I both ordered frozen mimosas which were delicious. She had steak and eggs and I had American breakfast: eggs,sausage, breakfast potatoes and cheese grits on the side with coffee. The food was plentiful and very good. I called the week before to reserve a table for 14, and was required to give my credit card information. When we arrived on Sunday afternoon, on time, we were told first that our table wasn't yet available. Then, that it would be a 20 minute wait. Then II was told that they don't take reservations, despite taking mine with a credit card confirmation. When asked why then did I need a credit card, the hostess said for cancellations/no shows. If I knew the food was going to be this good, I would have moved this restaurant up our HTX itinerary. We kept it light for lunch, but everything we had was fantastic down to the Caesar salad. I've been told it's the best, and I can't argue with that. While we enjoyed our cornbread, a man (dressed down, this is important) asked us how it was. We ranted and raved about it, and he said that he'd order us another starter of it. We collectively said thank you but thought that it was weird for a random person to offer such a thing. On vacation with my family in Houston my younger cousin is a big foodie like me so she loves trying new and different places. Now Grace's is my Uncle and Aunt's favorite restaurant. We did the valet since it's located in downtown Houston. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Our waiter was Armando and he was very polite, friendly and helpful as this was me and my husbands first time. He even gave me a sample taste of their moscato and it was delicious. They bring you water in a blue bottle that was good. I had the chicken fried chicken with the jalapeño gravy, mashed potatoes and collard greens. The cornbread was also delicious it's cooked in a cast iron skillet. This is a great restaurant for being able to have conversations as we hadn't been in Houston since 2009 so it was great catching up and being able to hear yourselves think. They sat us in this nice room for bigger parties the tables were dressed with tablecloths and they had all kinds of different dishes for different courses which were very nice. Pro tip: expect a bit of a wait and definitely make a reservation because trust me, it's worth it. As you walk to your table, you get a sneak peek into the kitchen through a window, and the sight of all the amazing food passing by is enough to make your mouth water. That's actually how I made my choice--I saw these fluffy pancakes going out to another table, and they looked so perfect, they practically took my breath away. Once we were seated, our waitress came over and was incredibly attentive and patient. We ordered drinks, and each one was delicious--clearly, they know what they're doing behind the bar. I ordered the lamb chops and they were cooked to perfection exactly to spec of how I wanted them and very flavorful!!! I came here with my cousin for HRW. I'm a fan of anything Carrabba's related. This was actually my first time at Grace's but I've heard good things from my friend's about their brunch (so I'll have to try that next time). I got the onion rings (fell apart easily and was messy), Caesar salad (heavily dressed/too wet), and wagyu burger (absolutely perfect). It was a bit loud and I felt like the tables were too close together/cramped. Overall had a good experience. Believe the hype on this place. I came here for dinner with a group of friends. We did not have a reservation, but still got seated within an hour on a busy Saturday night. Our waiter was awesome and you can tell that she was well-versed on all the menu items. All of her recommendations were spot on. I ordered the Creole Stuffed Chicken... man, oh man. Stuffed chicken 10/10, broccolini 8/10, mac & cheese 6/10. You also get complimentary jalapeño cornbread that is so good. I spent a wonderful Saturday, I took a walk, and went shopping. I found the cutest pair of linen pants for my trip. My day was turning out to be a beautiful day. I decided to cap my day off with what I hoped would be a delicious meal. I attempted to order the $23 Shrimp Stuffed Poblano Pepper I had heard so much about however, when I arrived the pepper was $33 and change. I was not going let that detour from ordering the meal. I was looking forward to getting home and enjoy my evening, but as I was placing my order I inquired about the cornbread that accompanied the meal, then I was told that to go orders did not include cornbread. The waiteress said that the cornbread was an incentive to encourage guest to eat in the resturaunt and that was the last straw, I refuse to pay the full resturaunt price, and not receive all that is included. They prefer to lose a customer who was willing to pay $10 over the advertised price over a piece of bread. I wasn't even going to ask for butter. read more

Went to Houston, Texas, a few weeks ago. I've been here before and was highly impressed. I decided to go to Grace's again because it was close to a place I wanted to go to afterward and because of familiarity. It seems like the place to be after Sunday services in the area. If I am not mistaken, I think it has a rich history in the Houston area. The service was great, and the ambiance is that of a cozy Southern Texas comfort. I decided to order mimosas, a chicken potpie, cornbread, and the tortilla soup (carbs galore). The food is AMAZING! Pretty much everything I have tried was great. The standout star of my order is their famed tortilla soup. It really tastes like divine intervention took place to bless it. If I could, I would order a whole pot & do a monthly subscription. Whenever I travel to Houston, I'll certainly make it a point to come here, especially Sunday mornings/afternoons for brunch. Be prepared to receive a LOT of food and come with a very empty stomach. Warm and welcoming. Turned into rush and inconsiderate Graces was ok to good. I'll definitely try it again. My son says OUR BEEF TIPS are better, I agree. I love the texture of beef tips, very tender. The gravy was a grayish color, and not brownish. That was different. I love my gumbo much better than grace's. Their okra was a bit under cooked, and a bit crunchy, I ate it. But I'll prefer it to be tender. We enjoyed the sticky ribs, it a bit sweet and salty. A tad bit salter and firmer than I'll like, But good non the less. Service: Overall I felt like I was being rushed by my waiter that girl snatch all kind of plates from the table, and I constantly had to ask her to please leave that, and on top of that, my personal flatware was on the slide plate, and would've ended up in the kitchen 3X. Now their were two other table parties that were there well before me, who were still receiving service. I even witness my waitress pouring water in there glasses, and I has to tell her to leave water glass. At that point the frustration has reached its point and I informed her of her behavior. She never ask to remove anything, even when she collect my son drink to refill his glass, nice gesture, yet have some courtesy, to at least inform us of your doings. For a first time experience, it was definitely worse than expected. I'll try Graces again, but I'm not in any rush. read more

I have been to Grace's a few times and find the food to be consistently good, which is why I chose this restaurant to host a company dinner reception during our new CEO's visit to Houston. I worked with Kryssalyn who situated us in the ideal spot that gave us privacy but still allowed us to experience the vibe of the restaurant. Kryssalyn was super patient and extremely helpful as I tried to pick out menu choices for the group. She made tasty recommendations that garnered praises from our entire crew. The crawfish mac & cheese, chicken fried chicken, short ribs, and skillet cornbread were definitely the fan favorites. What stood out for me was the professionalism, attentiveness, and friendliness of Kryssalyn and the team that served us. Thank you all for making my job easy. Went during HRW 2024 and had a great experience for a weekday lunch. Parking garage next door had plenty of open spots. Menu was more than generous portions for HRW and service from our waiter DJ Simiu was great! He was attentive without being overbearing and made some funny jokes. As far as the food---as stated generous portion sizes esp for HRW. The poblano pepper was my meal (on regular menu) and I highly recommend this!! Really heavy though and so I would say if you're hungry go for it and try to eat as much as you can there--just didn't taste the same at home. The food overall was on the salty side I found but otherwise we enjoyed everything we tried. I would classify this place as more dressy casual like a nicer Southern restaurant you would find in Louisiana with some epic comfort food. Just go and experience for yourself! read more

So, let's be fair. This was an okay experience with some hits, some misses from the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu. I feel that there was some miscommunication with my group and the waiter, but that wasn't what lead me to a 3, and considered a 2 for a hot minute. I wasn't to big of a fan of the chips/cheese appetizer from the restaurant it was disappointing. I guess I was hoping for the chips to be more like those fluffy tortilla chips you get from high end Mexican Restaurants, that want you get the bready texture and the cheese. The potato chip and cheese dish seemed to only work if it was all mixed together, but that to me seemed to be too much food sciencing, and less nom nom nom, eat this appetizer right away fun. My husband had fried rice with his meal and it was soo good. Aside from taking pictures from it, I kept stealing it. I had the chicken tortilla soup next. The bowl was shallow, but designed to look bigger, which is fair. I demolished the soup immediately. No complaints there. I ended it with the beef tips and rice. It was ok to good. Not sure what I was hoping for, but it wasn't spectacular. I was expecting something amazing and it was simply too ordinary to be that, which made me think, eh this is okay. I wouldn't order it again though. And I think that's disappointing as Houston Restaurants Week Menu generally make you want to come back and order more. That's not how I felt. Even though food wise, I was willing to be open in the future. What I disliked was just how long the whole thing took. We were there close to three hours, thankfully with various courses, but it seemed that with a reservation, and this establishment being familiar with large groups they would be more efficient. I'm hesitant to go back again to wait...and wait...and wait. Like, why do that. It was getting late, I was getting tire, it made the experience not so entertaining. Like if I'm at a restaurant for 3 hours, I want it to be because we are having such a good time we keep talking. Not because we're waiting on food, checks, or drinks. I don't recommend bringing a group or going with high expectation. I would consider going with a group no bigger than four. And expectation wise, expect okay food. If you do that, it'll be more enjoyable. If you go with a group of less than four and it takes them forever to get you situated you're better off ignoring them and visitng their other business ventures. read more

I've tried to brunch at Grace's a few times and the line is always out the door so I decided lunch would suffice. Stopped by on a random Friday afternoon and got seated in the dining room right away. They have several sections to accommodate the amount of people they probably see daily (including a large outdoor patio). I was eager to try the food and was sort of undecided on what I wanted so I settled for the cat fish, with a side of mac & cheese (like I'm not lactose) and a lemon drop. The cat fish was good, but the max wasn't, nor was the lemon drop. I think the food and experience was underwhelming in comparison to what I thought it would be. Also, for some reason, I assumed it was Black owned considering the patrons are predominantly Black and it's soul food. Either way, it didn't live up to the hype. read more

I recommend the $30 Josh Cellars Merlot as it paired extremely well with everything we ordered. The complimentary cornbread served prior to your main entree was so good! I ordered the chicken fried chicken and my husband ordered the pot roast - we thought both were delicious. I'm a Mac and cheese snob but found Grace's to be simple yet super good. Couldn't get enough of the broccoli or mashed potatoes. For dessert, we ordered the espresso martini & Godiva cocktail. It's rare for me to say this but the espresso martini was one of the best I ever had! Not too sweet but totally nailed the espresso flavor. I recommend this for a date night or just dining out with friends. Grace's feels upscale but not in a overwhelming way, making it perfect for a family dinner outing as well. Parking was a bit tricky but we were able to immediately get seated at 7pm on a Saturday night. I don't even know where to start. This was my first trip to Houston so this restaurant was a recommendation. We reviewed the menu before coming and were immediately sold on the offerings. No reservations were being accepted for brunch so the wait time could be 30 minutes to 2-3 hours depending on when you arrive and the # in your party. We arrived (2 of us) just after Noon and only had a 30 minute wait. The restaurant felt like you were entering your Aunt's mansion dining room for a family reunion. It had this homey feel but with some glam, and it smelled incredible. Our waiter was so nice; no personable and knowledgeable. He gave us a history lesson about the owner and their family, who just happened to be enjoying brunch a few tables away from us. We ordered drinks and an appetizer to start - fried green tomatoes. When in Rome, do as Roman's do, right? You're in the south, you order the tomatoes! They were delicious as was the paired remoulade. The tomatoes came out hot and crispy, and it allowed us time to munch before the second course arrived. The second course consisted of shrimp and grits, chicken fried chicken biscuit (omggg), with sides of collards and Mac and cheese. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits and enjoyed it. She only wished the grits were a tad bit creamer. The greens and mac were ok BUT THE CHICKEN BISCUIT???!!! I got angry after the first bite because I wished my husband was there to share the taste. It easily jumped to my Top 10 best bites I've ever enjoyed. I would fly in just for this. The jalapeño country gravy set it over the top. I'm not a spicy girl so it was mild enough but gave you the essence of the pepper. Top tier! We ended the meal with carrot cake, which came with a cream cheese drizzle. It didn't need the dressing but I'm here for the theatrics. Very moist, sweet, yummy cake! My only qualm was that the second course took over 30 minutes to arrive but I suspect it was due to the crowds. It was Beyonce weekend, after all. 5 stars! We stumbled upon this gem during a visit to MD Anderson. The place is very cool with multiple dining rooms, an open kitchen and a bar. The staff were friendly and the food unreal! As we were leaving we joked about coming back the following night after a surgical procedure. The following day, while still a bit under from the anesthesia, I asked my wife if she was hungry and able to get a bite to eat. Fully expecting her to want to crash at the hotel, she said we were going back to Grace's. After a super gracious Uber driver drove us using his hazard signals to Grace's with hospital bags in hand. We were not only remembered, but welcomed like family. The hostess sat us in a quiet section of the bar. The manager welcomed and offered to pay for our appetizer. The waiter Ned became our friend almost instantly and offered to buy our dessert! Who does that. The food, epic! A second hostess also remembering us from the previous night came and spoke asking about our procedure we had just an hour earlier. There is something very special about this place I have never experienced before. We are fans of Grace's for life. read more

So this is the good spot for some really solid food. I tried the strawberry pancakes and I tried the shrimp and grits. Both of them were solid! The pancakes had a bourbon syrup that was out of this world. It should have been Chris had man flavor. The bacon in there was super tender and gave the right amount of seasoning to it. I think that the portions didn't necessarily match like I would liked him too, that kind of small portions to me or at least for my shrimp and grits. But at least it was good though! There's inside and this outside so you have to pick your poison. If you go outside there's fans but it will be a little bit warm. But it is not as bad as you think because it's a covered area. Still wait step out style was very nice and friendly, zero complaints about that. She always make sure we were okay. It Does have a parking structure there so you don't have to park outside in the sun so that's good. Overall I would definitely recommend. read more

I visited for Sunday Brunch with a party of 8. Although they would not take a reservation for a party of our size, they accommodate us very well. All of our party was present at noon and we were seated in less than 10 minutes. It was very busy, but our wait was not long at all. The menu offers a large variety of brunch options. Our waiter also let us know about the day's specials. I opted for the chicken fried chicken biscuit with a side of breakfast potatoes and a frozen mimosa. The mimosa was delicious. It was served in a nice sized glass and I feel it was worth the price. My entree was absolutely delicious. The chicken was cooked to perfection and smothered in white gravy. The biscuit was the perfect accompaniment. It was soft & flaky. It held together nicely soaking up just the right amount of gravy. The house potatoes were good although they could have been a bit less salty. Food was delivered to our table quickly & our waiter did a nice job. The restaurant was very nice. The silverware was very heavy weight. It was obviously quality flatware. The serving plates were very pretty, reminding me of nice dinnerware from someone's home. There was a nice selection of music playing throughout the restaurant, but the volume was a bit low from where I was seated. Worth noting: they offer valet parking as well as free self parking in a garage located next to the restaurant. Self parking was very simple with ample space. Aromosphere is nice. It gives me a feel of an upscale Crackle Barrel. I ordered the the Cajun chicken, greens and Mac and cheese. My son ordered the chicken pot pie. We both ordered a large Caesers salad. First off the Caeser sals was delxisojs. The food was horrible. The Cajun chciken taste like boiled chicken with no seasoning. The mac and cheese looked like boxed mac and cheese with big shells. The greens tasted like mop water. I changed meals with my son and took a bite of his chicken pot pie. The crust was perfect but the bite was sweet and unpleasant. I tried my best to have an open palate but I couldn't. I reordered another Caser salad just for me. The sweet tea was good. Easily the best Tex-Mex restaurant I've been to. A coworker recommended this place to me, and I'm forever thankful for it. The food is top-notch, and the decor is gorgeous; every section has its own style, but it all comes together with an elegant and relaxed vibe that makes the whole space feel special. The service and food were truly exceptional -- everything we ordered was delicious, and our server went above and beyond to make sure we had a great dining experience. That being said, I did notice an inconsistency with the dress code policy. A gentleman in our party was asked to change his shirt, which he did without issue. While we understand and respect that the restaurant has a dress code, once we entered the bar area, I observed several women wearing athleisure/spandex outfits with midriffs showing and flip-flops, which didn't seem to align with the same standard. I completely respect establishments that uphold a dress code, but it should be applied consistently across all guests, regardless of gender.
