Well I didn't make it on the Butter house waitlist but I was super glad to find Googie Grill, which has the most fantastic fried chicken and waffles. Do not skip the gravy! Excellent savory taste to spice up the fried chicken. Waffles were very soft with an almost mochi like texture. Ask for a side of jam, which is made fresh daily. Great seating options and excellent service. I was treating a few friends and talked with the hostess to make absolutely sure there would be no bill splitting for the party. Last night we dined at The Google Grill. First impressions - the restaurant has a futuristic look to it somewhat like where you would expect George Jetson to dine. I was somewhat surprised they were not very busy on a Friday around 6:00 when we arrived. Servers were very friendly, but somewhat lackadaisical and inconsistent. My friend had to ask for her glass of wine twice before it was brought over. We waited quite a while after finishing to be asked if we wanted to box anything up. However, fresh parmigiana was offered right after being served our very hot meals. My husband started with a French Onion Soup. It was delicious, but he wished they would have placed the soup under the broiler to allow the cheese to brown a bit. My friend said she enjoyed the pesto linguine, but was surprised it was served with the added chicken which she did not order. My lobster ravioli was quite tasty although I would have liked the sauce to have a bit more tomato flavor and thickness. I also did not expect the baby shrimp. My husband was not fond of the Jambalaya and found both the andouille and spicy Cajun sauce bland. The Googie Grill is the sister restaurant to Wave Street Cafe in Monterey. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner and there's lots of variety on the menu. I would give them another try for breakfast or lunch! read more

Staff were so nice when it came to our indecisive seating and service was great. Inside area is a great size. It looks small on the outside but a decent size when you walk in. Negatives Food for five people in our party arrived 30 minutes after other meals (which took a very long time) and not everyone got everything they ordered. Googie Grill is not good for a large group. Dress warmly and bring a coat if you want to sit outside. The heaters did not work. The food was great and fast service. The waitress was very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. This is a pet friendly grill, you just have to eat on the patio. It has heaters over-head if it's a little chilly. There is a menu for your dog, and my dog loved her bow-wow burger with carrots and peas. Family stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon in September 2023 for early dinner after visiting Del Monte Beach. Cute place, there were only 3 other tables when we arrived. Clam chowder appetizer was good My mom ordered the fish n chips, husband ordered the shrimp scampi, and I had the special- seafood paella with saffron risotto. My friend and I had dinner here on March 3 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I had the beef short rib special with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The short rib was tender and juicy, the mashed potatoes were delicious, and the seasonal vegetables were just crisp tender. Perfectly cooked. My friend had the chicken marsala and said it was delicious. The ambience is very pleasant, the service was excellent, and there was plenty of parking, which is unusual in Seaside. Delightful restaurant, where not only does the menu offer frikadeller, fish tacos, clams vongole, and the usual burgers and sandwiches, but they seem to care about getting all these things right. My frikadeller came with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce that had the taste and texture of homemade. It's in the kind of building that every Denny's or Cindy's had back in the day, redone with a very nice modernized Googie MCM look. The result is reminiscent of kitsch while still cool and modern. We have been customers of this restaurant for many years. In the last couple of years it seems evident that there is no night manager. Last week we were there and it was another off night for the service and especially the food. There is no consistency so what may be well prepared one week, will be inedible the following week. The staff just seem to be going through the motions with no desire to make the customer happy. This is the direct result of no one in charge. I spoke with the owner, Jenny, and she explained "There is no budget for a manager." Then why isn't she stepping in herself in order for this place to succeed? I went to Googie Grill for breakfast. They've done a great job of remodeling both the exterior and interior. Parking is easier both egress and ingress. The interior has had a fresh coat of paint seating is well spaced. It appeared some COVID Precautions were in use. 2 two-top tables occupied. IL was the only other person. I wanted one over-easy egg and a pancake. I was brought coffee and cream in a pitcher. When my order finally arrived 17 minutes later, I was presented with a giant blueberry pancake and two eggs. "Oh, I only ordered one egg." "This is the only way they come. I spoke to my manager and she said it's two eggs." The blueberry pancakes, as you can tell by this picture , was huge and it was delicious , truly delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I travel a lot and whenever I come to the South Bay Area I always make it a point to stay in Monterey and eat at Googie grill. Aside from the staff being excellent the food is top-notch. So happy Googie Grill is open again...we have missed you! Dinner last night was awesome; generous portions of delicious food/wine and great service. After being seated, we went over the menu and were glad that two of our favorites are still offered so we were set until Jesse, our waiter, came by and mentioned the specials of the day. Okay we said, we'll have the specials (since we can come and have our favorites any time). I had the rack of lamb and hubs had the paella and for app we shared the calamari. A solid diner that's pretty big too so you're not waiting super long for a weekend group breakfast. I liked my huevos rancheros and the rest of the standard diner fare looked pretty good too.
