We went to dinner tonight at Googie Grill. When we travel to Monterey it's always on our list to eat there. We went early and they were not busy. We both ordered the Sand Dabs. I got mashed potatoes and my husband got French fries and fresh vegetables. The fish was lightly grilled with a lemon caper sauce and served with the most perfect mashed potatoes and beautifully cooked fresh vegetables. It was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. We ended our wonderful meal with bread pudding topped with ice cream and an ice cream sundae for my hubby. The service is always excellent and the atmosphere is nice and casual. You go here for the food and It is always spot on. I don't know who the cook was but our meal was a ten.. we will return I have to have my Googie fix. read more

Very friendly and welcoming. The dining area is comfortable, the staff was very accommodating to both of our grandchildren. Their menu offers a wide variety of choices to suit most any diner's palate. Our food was amazing! I had the seafood Alfredo which was very fresh and delicious. My husband and son had the fresh catch of the day- halibut in an orange glaze. They both raved over it. We will be back!! read more

What a cute café in the area. We ordered a French dip and a veggie sandwich, and of course had the beignets. Everything was spectacular and the service was wonderful too. I also ordered a bloody Mary to wash it all down, which was fantastic. Definitely give this Grill a five star and would highly recommend it to anybody in the area or even those visiting Seaside. Great little friendly restaurant. Food is tasty and generous servings. If you're staying at the Embassy Suites, consider taking a short walk and having a great meal here! My hubby and I shared a wedge salad...I've never seen one so big and tasty! I had the spinach and sundried tomato with pesto...yummy! Hubby had the chicken parm with spaghetti which he enjoyed and ate the WHOLE thing...I had to take half my meal home to enjoy the next day! Best kept 'secret' in Seaside, CA for sure! We've come ever since they opened up - stayed with them even after the kitchen and rebuild. You can come; breakfast (yes - try their homemade jam - yikes!!) , lunch or dinner and the food is consistently amazing. I'm picky and this place nails it time after time. YOU have to try their breakfasts (wow), their pork shops are killer and best burgers anywhere around! The seafood is great!!! The chicken parm... yummy! Then if you want to splurge, or have room after all of it.... their home made warm beignets are oh so good. We drive from Salinas to eat here. Our 'table' is always waiting! The chef can't manage first-in, first-out. The food had no flavor. Low-quality ingredients. Today is Mother's Day, how can you not be on top of your game today?! :( We were the 3rd table seated, and it took a long time for our meal to get to us, about 45 minutes. The worst part, a couple that was seated about 15 minutes after we got there received their plates before us. We had high hopes for good food after that screw up. Unfortunately, that was not the case. :( Had a veggie scramble that had no flavor and was greasy. My husband's meal wasn't much better. The French toast tasted like it had been sitting for a while. We couldn't tell what they topped the French toast with. It looked like custard, but we think it might have been fake butter. No yummy French toast flavor there either. Basic American food - the prices seem fair in comparison to other places in town. I have been there only for breakfast and left feeling ok about it. Also I have never been able to get the beignets - I feel like they keep telling me they no longer make them but it is still listed on their site. read more

We always worry a bit when we arrive at a restaurant within a certain window before closing. Both of us having worked restaurants, we know that sometimes we've wanted customers to ask whether or not we're still seating, even when we are, of course. So, we asked, within a half-hour of closing, if there might be a chance of getting something quick. The host and wait staff assured us that they were eager to serve us whatever we ordered. Steak for me; fish-and-chips for my date. Both relatively quick, in our experience. And the folks at Googie Grill were efficient and prompt, but they also, clearly, did not skimp on the expertise and time necessary to put together such extraordinary food. "Extraordinary" fish-and-chips? "Extraordinary" steak? Yes. In both cases there were lovely surprises. We traded bites and guesses at what had been included in the coating of the fish, and at what had been included in the sauce for the steak. We came up with some possibilities, but ultimately decided that the best solution to the mystery was to abandon our detective work and simply plan a return trip to Googie Grill. You're likely to do something similar, and so will we - with some other menu selections in the near future. read more

Well I didn't make it on the Butter house waitlist but I was super glad to find Googie Grill, which has the most fantastic fried chicken and waffles. Do not skip the gravy! Excellent savory taste to spice up the fried chicken. Waffles were very soft with an almost mochi like texture. Ask for a side of jam, which is made fresh daily. Great seating options and excellent service. I was treating a few friends and talked with the hostess to make absolutely sure there would be no bill splitting for the party. I ordered a Ceasar salad to go. I received a "dead" salad. The lettuce was not fresh. The lettuce was dry like it had been in the cooler a while. The lettuce was covered in Parmesan "dust", I'm not sure that this was ever actual Parmesan cheese. The dressing had a bitter flavor. A Ceasar is a simple item, but when well done it is very satisfying and enjoyable. This salad was the opposite of that. The menu online shows the price to be 9.50, I was charged $14.50. Last night we dined at The Google Grill. First impressions - the restaurant has a futuristic look to it somewhat like where you would expect George Jetson to dine. I was somewhat surprised they were not very busy on a Friday around 6:00 when we arrived. Servers were very friendly, but somewhat lackadaisical and inconsistent. My friend had to ask for her glass of wine twice before it was brought over. We waited quite a while after finishing to be asked if we wanted to box anything up. However, fresh parmigiana was offered right after being served our very hot meals. My husband started with a French Onion Soup. It was delicious, but he wished they would have placed the soup under the broiler to allow the cheese to brown a bit. My friend said she enjoyed the pesto linguine, but was surprised it was served with the added chicken which she did not order. My lobster ravioli was quite tasty although I would have liked the sauce to have a bit more tomato flavor and thickness. I also did not expect the baby shrimp. My husband was not fond of the Jambalaya and found both the andouille and spicy Cajun sauce bland. The Googie Grill is the sister restaurant to Wave Street Cafe in Monterey. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner and there's lots of variety on the menu. I would give them another try for breakfast or lunch! read more

We visited Monterey and stayed in a hotel there, but the restaurants nearby were very expensive. I searched around and found Googie's here on Yelp, and the reviews were positive and mentioned the cost effectiveness. So we tried it and this is true: the food was good, large portions, and (compared to elsewhere) very reasonably priced. I got over two meals from my Chicken Marsala, and my husband got two meals from his pasta dish with shrimp. Service was fast and friendly; ambiance was perfectly satisfactory. read more

Staff were so nice when it came to our indecisive seating and service was great. Inside area is a great size. It looks small on the outside but a decent size when you walk in. They also have a cute little outside area. As seafood lovers we sure did enjoy all our entrees we ordered. From appetizers to our meals it was great. My friend had the chicken marsala and said it was delicious. The ambience is very pleasant, the service was excellent, and there was plenty of parking, which is unusual in Seaside. Family stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon in September 2023 for early dinner after visiting Del Monte Beach. Cute place, there were only 3 other tables when we arrived.
