Omg the breakfast was so delicious! The pancakes were huge, but super yummy! I can't remember exactly what the hubby's breakfast was called, so sorry, but we loved it as well and the portions are enormous! The coffee was nice and strong, we loved everything and the service, fabulous, fast and friendly.
Food Ordered the Triple D Sampler (biscuits and gravy, with eggs and a cup of brisket chili) - yum! I think the chili was my favorite part - flavorful and good texture. The gravy for the biscuits and gravy was spiced well. My husband got the cinnamon roll pancakes and a side of a bacon. He was pleased with his meal. Pancakes were huge! Our lattes were pleasant - good presentation and flavor. Service Our server was patient, friendly, and informative. Ambiance The restaurant had an elevated diner vibe, nothing felt dated. I saw that they had a homemade mole for their breakfast burritos. Would definitely come back to try that out.
On a recent trip to the Bay Area we had a chance to swing by the Monterey Peninsula on the way south and visit with a dear friend. This "young lady" and I have been great pals since 4th grade, and that was quite a while ago. Ahem! She's lived in Carmel since the early 80's and knows so many great places to go. She recommended From Scratch as a good spot to meet for breakfast. On a foggy morning, we parked on the exterior of The Barnyard and took a meandering path to find the restaurant. I had actually dined in that space many, many years ago. I don't even recall what it was called at that time. The From Scratch iteration is wonderful! It's cozy and charming on the inside. I didn't end up taking many pix inside as they were so consistently full of patrons that I didn't want to intrude on people's meals. They also have an outdoor patio area, which is kept warm by heaters, but my friend had scored a table inside near the fireplace, and that turned out to be a perfect place. The menu has all the breakfast favorites, but with their own little creative twists. It was hard to narrow down to a final choice of what to order. Service was excellent throughout, and our server had a just-right sense of humor. The portions are enormous!!! Dear Hubby and I could have easily split one plate and would have gone away completely full. If one is going to order whichever dish you choose, unless you haven't eaten for a week, I would plan that you'll be taking away leftovers. Their homemade sausage patties were superb with a subtle sweet taste that complimented the savory meat. Thick, fluffy French toast was so delicious with real maple syrup to drizzle on top. DH fully enjoyed his biscuits and gravy. I don't know how he ate as much as he did, but I did do most of the driving in the afternoon while he napped off that breakfast! It was so divine to visit with my sweet friend in such a lovely atmosphere while eating delicious food. What a wonderful start to the day! I can see this being a draw for locals and visitors alike.
While visiting Carmel for a single night before hitting the road to explore Big Sur, I was on the hunt for a breakfast that would be open early, casual vibes, and (of course) delicious! My Yelp search introduced From Scratch Restaurant which satisfied all of my requirements but seeing that they were featured on Triple D is what sealed the deal. So I found myself (and my husband) inside the cozy diner shortly after they opened at 8am. If I could give half stars, I would give my experience a 3.5. The waitress had a lovely personality and was a pro at upselling (not mad at it). I ordered a single Granola Pancake and added a side of bacon and a fried egg. Thanks to the server's recommendation, I chose fresh blueberries and fresh banana to be cooked right into my pancake. It was the best pancake I have ever had!! Light and fluffy, little pockets of fruit bursting in my mouth, and the crunchy granola baked into the top! The servings are generous, so I ended up sharing some of my pancake with my husband and took a couple pieces of thick bacon to-go. My vanilla latte was served beautifully in a clear stein-style mug. It was quite hot, so I ended up taking it to-go since I did not drink much of it during my meal. However, after leaving, I realized the latte was burnt. My husband confirmed his black coffee also tasted burnt but he just kept adding sugar to it until he could drink it. I wish we had said something during the meal, but sadly the bad coffee brought my stars from a 4 down to a 3.5. I would definitely return for the pancake! If you need a cozy and casual diner breakfast, From Scratch is a fair choice.
Wow been a year. Could not wait for our return. Cool morning with our dog. Seated quickly on patio. Host turned on heater which was welcoming. Great open area with great ambiance. Server Nick was quickly out to our table. Bloody Marys ordered and quickly delivered. Food again was overloaded crazy plate. So what's wrong with that. Again another awesome experience. Looking forward to next year.
We were in town for a fun staycation anniversary trip vibe and decided to stop by this restaurant for a hearty breakfast meal before we enjoyed the rest of our day. I ended up ordering a veggie omelette with potatoes and sourdough toast. The portions were very generous, the food was well seasoned, I just knew I was going to look forward to my leftovers later lol. When we sat down, we were immediately offered water and coffee. Our food came out with a reasonable time and all of the staff was very kind and welcoming. this is a busy breakfast and brunch spot, it seemed that everyone was enjoying their meal. We sat outside on the patio area to enjoy our meal and coffee & definitely will stop again next time we're in the area.
Well, second visit to Monterey in past six months and of course this meant a return visit to one of our favorite restaurants, From Scratch! First of all, we lucked out because we were seated quickly and got the same amazing waiter, John. He always makes sure that we love our meals, he is friendly and attentive, the perfect waiter! Our meals were just as good this time as last. This time my husband and I both had omelets but with different sides. Let me just say, the portions are huge and will keep you full all day! The bacon is the best I have ever tasted anywhere and the cheesy grits were a unique and delish side. The eggs were so fluffy! I just love this place and wish I could go here every week! Whenever we go to the coast, this is a tradition now: breakfast at From Scratch!! Yummmm-o
We came to From Scratch on our way back to LA. I was excited to find that this place featured on the Food Network. We ordered the French toast and the From scratch breakfast roll. We thought the food was over all ok, I did wish the breakfast roll wasn't covered in the sauce. The food felt average but solid. Fairly generous portions. The place was pretty busy but we got seated quickly.
We stop at this "mall" a few times a year on our way to/home from Camping in Big Sur. Had no idea this breakfast/brunch gem was hidden away & would definitely stop here again. Don't come here if you are in a rush or want something fast! The positives: fantastic dark roast coffee (free refills), huge meal portions, great range of choices, excellent ingredients, everything made from scratch, and pricing was good value in out opinion. The challenges: long wait time (we visited on a Sunday 11:30/primetime) -we waited 45-60 minutes to be seated & took a bit for our food to arrive but appreciated the coffee & endless refills (be aware its 5.50 per person). I ordered the skillet with Eggs scrambled & choice of 3 items. I chose bacon, onions & topped with sliced avocado served over potatoes & i had the homemade cheese biscuit which was a wonderful complement served with homemade marmalade. And i requested a side of pico de gallo (tasted homemade) that made it perfect. My hubby had the wrap which is the burrito with 3 items -he chose bacon avocado & jalapeno) and had a side of potatoes. The burrito had a mole sauce on it that might have been better served on the side. His potatoes tasted overly salty. Would definitely come here again to try the eggs benedict, or French toast, or pancakes or hamburger---so many good things passed by our table. If you are not in a hurry and want a very filling brunch this is your place. And if you have to wait for a table, looked like you could order mimosas and bloody mary's in the store while you wait.
This place was excellent! Recently visited after getting a recommendation from an employee at the hotel we were staying at. Located in a shopping center that is full of shops and eateries. It's located inside on the lower level. The service that we received was very friendly and we felt cared for by the staff. Most importantly the food was PHENOMENAL. The portions were large. The dishes were flavorful and the ingredients tasted fresh. I can't wait to go back and visit whenever I'm in the area.
My bf and I came early on a Sunday morning and it was busy!! We got lucky and got seats inside but it was definitely very crowded. The huge portions kept us satiated for hours after and we were made to feel right at home by the amazing service. We would definitely come back to try more of their menu the next time we're in town. Finding the restaurant is definitely a little bit confusing but such a cute area to explore. My bf ordered the corn beef hash with potatoes and cheese biscuit (3.5/5): We loved the fluffiness of the cheese biscuit and it went well with the jam provided. Potatoes were very well seasoned. while the corned beef hash was flavorful, it was also a bit dry which was disappointing. The potatoes included with the hash were very flavorful as well. Because of the beef hash being dry though he'd probably skip this next time. I ordered the Sausage benedict with fresh fruit (4/5): Creamy, saucy, and very delicious. The inclusion of mushrooms and onions in this Benedict added a nice texture and helped break up some of the heaviness from the dish. Loved that the English muffin used was soft and easy to cut into.
This was a pretty busy brunch spot even at 8AM! We were seated immediately but there were already a good amount of tables taken inside and outside. I got a breakfast skillet dish with chili, tomatoes, and mushrooms. The food was a little salty for my preference but otherwise, very delicious! The value is great! We shared 2 dishes between the 3 of us and we still had leftovers! This is a cosy brunch restaurant.

A true Carmel local favorite From Scratch has been a local favorite for good reason. I've been coming here for over 20 years, and it continues to deliver great food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere every time. The staff is always warm and attentive, and many of the employees have been there for years, some for as long as 3 to 10 years. That says a lot about how they take care of their team, and it shows in the way they treat their customers. The service feels genuine, consistent, and very local. The food never disappoints. Their fresh, made-from-scratch biscuits are a must-try, pun intended, and the eggs Benedict is another favorite. It's the kind of place where you can tell people take pride in what they're serving. The only thing to keep in mind is that on Saturday and Sunday mornings, the wait can get long, so it's best to come early. From Scratch is also very kid-friendly, which makes it a great choice for families visiting from out of town. And if you do arrive early, remember that Carmel mornings can be a little chilly. There's a reason we have a local magazine called 65°. Ask to sit inside unless you don't mind the cool coastal air. Overall, From Scratch is one of those dependable Carmel spots that has earned its reputation over many years. Great food, great people, and a true local feel. read more
Wow, what a delicious and fun breakfast spot! We came in on a Thursday around 11:30 am and were able to be immediately seated. It was quite busy outside, but we found a nice spot in the shade. Once we started to order, a lot of the people started to leave and there was only a couple other parties outside. For once I was hungry AND actually able to order while thinking about portion sizes. Normally my eyes are more hungry than my stomach! I had one banana walnut pancake and still couldn't finish it. My partner ordered the breakfast skillet with chorizo, mushrooms, and avocado. Both were exceptionally delicious, and the skillet especially with their homemade bottled pepper sauce. It's available to purchase but they ran out when we were visiting. The pancake had bananas or walnuts in every bite, if not both. The maple syrup was also heated up so it made for a very pleasant experience. I'm normally a savory breakfast gal, but this called to me, and I'm so glad I went with it. And the skillet wasn't that spicy but packed tons of flavor. I could taste some smoke paprika, garlic powder, and a pleasant amount of salt and pepper. We enjoyed our time here, and since the business was slowing down, we were able to chat with our waiter and get some ideas for local spots to try. 10/10, we will be back again! :) Thank you so much! read more

Popped in here for breakfast while visiting for the Big Sur Marathon. I sat on the patio, which has heaters. The service was prompt and friendly. My food, the extreme biscuits and gravy included eggs and fruit. It was very good and a large portion. I'd order it again. read more

From Scratch Restaurant is located in a shopping center perhaps mostly locals are aware of its presence. However, thanks to my fellow Yelp reviewers, I was fortunate to have stumbled across this local breakfast hotspot. I arrived early on a Saturday morning, and luckily we were quickly seated inside. There menu has plenty of American breakfast staples and apparently, theirclaim to fame are their cheddar scratch biscuits. I ordered the egg white frittata that comes with spinach, choice of meat which I chose bacon, and cheese. I chose two included sides of homestyle potatoes and a biscuit of course. My friend ordered an omelet with her two sides. It took not long for our food to arrive and boy do they have large portion sizes where they should definitely consider having larger tables as our food practically took up the entire table for two! Our egg dishes were absolutely amazing and I was very pleasantly surprised that I consumed as many of those potatoes as they were so flavorful and tasty. Given the portion sizes, the prices were reaonable. In fact I got myself another two meals with the leftovers I took home. Also, they don't charge extra for egg whites unlike pretty much every other breakfast restaurant that I have gone to. Interestingly, we were not as impressed with the biscuits given the amount of hype that were given from the wait staff. Oh well, as long as everything else was delicious. I hope for a return visit soon on my next trip to Carmel! read more
We came on a Sunday an hour from their closing time. The party in front of us was seated right away and then the hostess told us that it would be a 20 minute wait. She was a bit rude to us as well as others who came after us. I noticed that she would also seat parties who came after us right away. I overheard someone asking how much longer it would be as they've been waiting for longer than my group has. Her response was unnecessarily passive aggressive. A hostess is the initial face greeting customers so either they need a new hostess or she needs to learn basic customer service. We were seated inside and the servers were friendly. We didn't have one designated server as all servers went around to check in and help all tables. I ordered the B.L.A.T. Wrap which was good, but not great. I'd say the portion is good as the wrap itself is huge. The fries were probably the best part of the dish since it was nice and crispy. My bf ordered the fruit cup; but he noticed that one of the grapes had mold growing in it. We let the server know so that other customers don't get served moldy grapes. The servers were all friendly, but the hostess and the food weren't it. I'd say this spot seems overhyped for what it is. read more

10/10. Such a wonderful brunch spot! I ordered the corned beef hash & eggs and it was super tasty. Generous portions. My husband got the Carmel omelette: mushroom, avocado, bacon and Swiss cheese which he really enjoyed. Great service, lovely outdoor patio. Looking forward to coming back! read more

Saw this spot on Diners Dives and Drives so we decided to check them out. We ordered their specialties Cinnamon Roll Pancakes and the Triple D special. The pancakes were so good they did not need syrup! The biscuits and gravy were outstanding as well. If you want so delicious comfort food with big servings come check em out. read more
An awesome and relatively affordable spot for breakfast! We only had to wait a few minutes to be seated and there's a little gift shop you can browse while you wait. I ordered the Carmel omelette with potatoes, and my boyfriend got the corned beef and hash. We also ordered a fruit and granola parfait for something sweet. Everything was a great portion and delicious! My omelette was jam packed with cheese, I wish it had a little more avocado. The potatoes were very seasoned, which I thought was great. The toast they provide with breakfast comes with little sides of jam, we had strawberry and apricot and they were great! My boyfriend loved the corned beef and hash but wished they used the same potatoes that you get on the side, as his were a little undercooked. Our parfait was surprisingly big and great to split with lots of yummy fruit. They make the granola in house and you can buy some as well! read more
The location can be a bit hard to find as its tucked away in an shopping area. We went for brunch and it was quite busy. We had to wait 15 minutes so we walked around and shopped a bit. We spent a week on vacation in this area so it's hard to remember the details of every place. It took a while to get a server to take our order. Once he took the order, I think they spawned our food into existence it was so fast. My biscuits and gravy were good. Good portion size. The others liked their food. It was a bit cold on this day and they didn't have a heat lamp by us which put a damper on the experience. Still overall nice. read more

This is 5 stars all the way! My only problem here (but it may be for the best) is that it's extremely difficult to find all tucked down in the corner of this complex of buildings. If it were more accessible the crowds would be difficult to handle. We didn't know going into it that this was featured on DDD, I found it by searching here for restaurants close to Point Lobos. The day we came (late October) was cold and windy, so walking into the warm, homey dining room and being greeted by the most mom-like waitress ever is exactly what we needed. We ordered the B.L.A.T and the Chicken Caesar Wrap and we ordered the fries. The waitress immediately offered up ranch which we of course we said yes to because how else do you eat fries!? We had NO idea what we were in for... these plates of food were gigantic! And the pile of fries, not just fries... seasoned waffle fries were piled so high it never looked like I made a dent in them. These are fly across the country for them fries. We even took the leftovers w/ us and heated them up in our hotel microwave the next night - they were still delicious! The sandwiches were also delicious - and while the price tag is high for sandwiches, you definitely get your $$'s worth. We watched a whole lot of people around us order breakfast and those dishes too looked incredible. We stopped in on a recommendation from a local. It wasn't until we were there that it was also featured on 'Triple D'. The downstairs outdoor patio is a great place to enjoy the spectacular weather and outdoor space. Servers were all very attentive and made sure that everything met you were satisfaction. Portions very much outweigh the size of our stomachs. With leftovers in are hands, we were extremely satisfied with the price for the amount of food. Good food and quick service! I heard weekends are longer wait times. We went Friday at 10am. They have the triple D plate but I did not think it was good or worth it. The scratch skillet was totally worth it but too much cheese. Cinnamon roll pancake is a must!!! Sooo goood read more

We're local residents, and we've been to From Scratch many times, but this was by far the best service we've ever had. Our server, Sarda D, was exceptional. She was hardworking, meticulous, and paid attention to every detail without ever being intrusive. She anticipated what we needed before we even asked and made the whole dining experience feel smooth and enjoyable. You can tell she truly takes pride in her work. I told her at the table that she was the best server we've ever had and we meant it. Experiences like this are exactly why we keep coming back. read more
Yesterday morning we had brunch at From Scratch with two friends and our pups on the lovely patio. Service is very friendly and nice and our breakfasts were delicious. I had Corned Beef Hash and Eggs that came with an amazing cheese biscuit. and yummy potatoes! We also had the Eggs Benedict that my husband loved. The Granola bowl was also delicious! The bacon and scrambled eggs were both cooked perfectly and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Coffee is delicious too! This is a great breakfast spot and we will be back! read more
Overall - this place has big portions but be prepared to wait for it. They do not take reservations. Parking: plenty of free parking. You can park in the spots behind the mall too. Location: the description on the website was lengthy. Basically you can access the restaurant from any direction in the mall, and you can park anywhere. I think the easier way is to find Synchronicity Holistic in the parking lot and go toward Allegro. Follow the walkway into the mall. You have to walk down some steps to reach From Scratch. On a Saturday afternoon, it was about 15-20 minutes wait for four people. They text you when the table is ready. You can browse inside their adjacent shop to kill time. Food: I loved the sampler plate $23! The chili was so good. I enjoyed the apricot jam with the cheesy biscuit. The banana walnut pancakes were ok. They were a good size. (If you want real maple syrup, it's an extra charge.) The tuna avocado salad was only ordered because we needed some kind of veggie. We ended up taking home the leftover lettuce. There was so much of it. The coffee latte is served in a glass cup, but it's a hot drink. Service: good. They are friendly. Credit card/Apple Pay accepted. Bathroom: there is only one stall. We had an amazing time! Every employee we interacted with was genuinely so kind. It was chilly outside, but it felt perfect because of the outdoor heaters. The brisket was the perfect texture and tasted so good with the breakfast skillet. Finding fresh biscuits is so hard nowadays, but I love how even the biscuits were so fresh. Definitely would be returning next time I'm in Carmel for brunch! read more

While we walk at Barnyard in Carmel we found a hidden gem situated on the lower level of the property. We came at a perfect time because we were there on a weekday. The service was amazing! Servers were very attentive and considerate. They also have great customer service. Food was rich and yummy! The order came in fast!!!! Which is great because we were with my toddler. I got the eggs Benedict with Turkey sausage and my mom had the Big Sur omelet. My daughter had fruit cup and yogurt! The ambiance was great but a little dark inside the restaurant but its not a big deal! Servings were huuge we left the place with our tummies full! Homey brunch spot! They have incredibly hefty portions here. We ordered two of the brunch items. Our favorite was the biscuits with sausage + potatoes. The biscuits seemed house made and fresh to order. we also got the omelette -- build your own with a side of biscuits. The fresh avocado on top is a must. This place is a hidden gem! Super cozy and very homey. We ordered the buttermilk pancakes and the cinnamon roll pancakes and they are huge! The buttermilk pancake was so warm and buttery that it melts in your mouth. The servers were fast at taking our order and bringing the food. read more
Let me start by saying I only gave 4 stars because we sat outside (dog friendly restaurant) with our dog which is great they accommodate pets. But the table location we had was super chilly and my seat was directly in the 'wind tunnel' near the stairs. I was so cold it left an impression on me that was hard to forget though not by any disservice by the restaurant itself. The server did turn a heater on for us which was behind my wife who did not feel cold at all. That being said we ordered Triple D Chili came first and was only luke warm. But very tasty and nice slight heat with big chunks of beef. Asked for crispy potatoes as a side with over easy eggs. Biscuits and sausage with gravy were nice and fluffy and good portion of sausage. Not overly salty but could use a bit more flavor. Potatoes could use a bit more crisp. Overall was enjoyable meal Corned beef hash Was great. Shredded corned beef with a smidgen (IE not too many) of potatoes and topped with green onions. More meat than potatoes!! Fruit bowl side was nice and fresh. Biscuit was a bit dry but did dome with butter and jam. Since we sat outside on the patio and it was cold that morning, the food got cold VERY fast which I think affected the flavors a bit adding to a 4 star review read more

I drive all the way from Oakland to visit this famous breakfast spot. The cinnamon roll pancakes are my favorite, and I absolutely love the fried cheese grits. Everything my family and I have ordered here has been incredible. Located in a very cute shopping center in Carmel, with super friendly staff, it's always a great experience. My boyfriend and I were visiting Monterey and we were looking forward to eat here. When we arrived, the ambiance was nice. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait which we did not mind. However, after we were seated and situated in the outdoor patio area, we began to browse the menu. We waited an additional 10-15 minutes before our waiter checked in on us. Our assigned waiter was an older white woman who appears to be in her late 50s. Shortly after, a white older couple sat at the table beside my partner and I. The waiter glanced at us and proceeded to take the couple's entire order ranging from drinks to their meal. We did not want to draw attention to it as we initially thought it was a mistake. She checked in with us after and began taking our orders to drink. We continued to sharing, adding that we were ready to add our food order and mid sentence she walked away to attend to a second couple who was also white, sitting further down our left to take their entire order as well. My boyfriend made an attempt to say "Excuse me" and she made a hang gesture and mumbled under her breath. She never took our order. My boyfriend and I, in the moment, felt disrespected and felt discriminated against. We understand the demand of running a business but this employee single handedly caused distress during our visit. We want to highlight John as well as the other incredibly lovely employees who enhanced our experience and who emulate that kind hearted people still exist. John made our visit feel so memorable and the other employees were so friendly, it really made up for the discrimination we had felt. The food was delicious and overall, I want to wish John, the manager and the rest of the team an infinite thank you for keeping customer service and kindness at the forefront of what you all do. read more
