The space is nice, friendly staff, lots of interesting Mexican decor, and they do big parties or events! The food was mediocre, nothing too crazy. It's nice that they have lunch options @10am so my wife got the calamari sandwich & I got the prawn shrimp pasta. The food came out after about 10 minutes of ordering which was super quick! The food was nothing spectacular my pasta was some what tasty? But very watery. My wife's sandwich is fresh veggies but somewhat bland. Would I come back if I'm in Monterey? Maybe. If I was hungry and nothing was opened. But for the price I paid it wasn't worth it. Also the pricing on the menu was slightly different than what was charged? There are two restaurants with a similar name-- one associated with Del Monte Golf Course and this one that's like a diner. We found this place online. It's attached to the TraveLodge. We went in for breakfast on Tuesday and there was hardly anyone there but a few local people. The place is quaint--nothing fancy and clean. I ordered a ground beef scramble and my hubs ordered an egg breakfast. Food was good and service was quick. Restrooms were very clean.As others have noted, careful entering and exiting the restaurant as there are uneven flagstone rocks and you could trip if you're not careful. read more

So this restaurant is nestled in a Travelodge Inn, it's hard to see off of the street, even with gps. Coming into the restaurant, it has a cavernous feeling, with a huge waiting area. Coming in during lunch, I was seated right away. They have the usual diner fare. It did have a very local/family-friendly atmosphere. They do have high-chairs for the kiddos and the unisex bathrooms weren't the cleanest. As for the food, I had the American platter. It was delicious. The country potatoes were seasoned well, and they had that crispy on the outside- soft on the inside thing going on! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the meat was juicy. i decided to go here since it was right next to the hotel we were staying at. I had asked 3 people what comes in the tuna and I got 2 different responses, one said just mayo and pickles, the other said pickles mayo mustard celery.. So i decided to get the tuna melt and when it arrived there was onions mixed in.. So i had to have it sent back and changed my order.. They simply could have asked the chef or owner or whoever what comes in it to avoid that whole situation. We also went for my mom's birthday.. I went to the bathroom and asked the host if they do something for birthdays to surprise my mom. The host then told me to tell my server .... So i sit back down and I had to tell the server in front of my mom.. He said that they have ice cream, I asked if they could sing really loudly. A staple in my family!! I've came here various times with my family and friends, and have always enjoyed my meal. In the past I have ordered waffles or the classic American breakfast and even there Huevos rancheros, along with your hot chocolate. They have usually also been very busy in the past in which wait time can vary. Servers have always been attentive and very friendly. On this particular day, I had ordered the Huevos Rancheros, and came with my boyfriend and our friend. We actually had all ordered the same thing. They were good, but nothing out of this world. Definitely not your traditional Huevos Rancheros, but they were tasty. Before they were located in a different part of Seaside, but now can be found right next to the Travel lodge in Monterey . It's shady and there's glass between your seat and the sidewalk, but the noisy busy street was the only real negative here. A happy accident - we were on the way to a different restaurant for breakfast that had a 72-104 minute wait at 10:30 am on a Sunday. We found this place nearby on Yelp and it turned out to be a good choice. We were seated outside immediately, ordered one decaf and one regular coffee and two OJs for the kids. Prompt service. They had good flavored creamers on the table too. The food was really good. My partner got the chorizo burrito special and it was two tortillas rolled up. He didn't love that the salsa had mangoes in it, only complaint. My huevos rancheros was so good, the beans and ranchero sauce was so flavorful and really made this the best dish I ate all weekend. I've given this place a chance so many times. I used to go to their old location in Seaside, and then followed them to the new location out of curiosity...and the need for breakfast in an area that has a sub-par selection of decent breakfast places. Their staff seems to be almost exclusively comprised of very young, disinterested men, perhaps related, and probably all recent high-school drop-outs. Their attitude always seems to be that they're doing you a favor just by acknowledging your presence. Breakfasts are unremarkable, although serviceable I suppose. The new location feels cavernous in a weird way. Back in it's 60's heyday, I guess it was a larger restaurant or even a nightclub or something. If you're staying at the Travelodge, then yeah, go here 'cuz it's convenient. Otherwise, I'd never go out of the way to go here. My most recent case of giving them yet another chance was to foolishly stop by to get a to-go salad. Check out the pic. Tiny amounts of low-quality (think Walmart) thin deli slices (ham, turkey) diced up along with crappy cheese, and tossed over some iceberg and sold for $16.99 as a "Chef's Salad". Oh yeah, there was a boiled egg. Yes, you read that right -- SEVENTEEN dollars ($20 out the door with tax and tip) for a gas-station quality "salad"....and it took them 3 times as long as they said it would to make it. The optimist in me says this place still has potential. Replace all the staff, pare down the menu, accentuate the positives like the large bar. Introduce nightly dinner specials? Connect the restaurant to the pool deck so that folks can enjoy a drink on the patio? Dunno...but do SOMETHING soon. read more

They have both indoor and outdoor eating, which was nice and dog- friendly, but still felt separate and protected from the busy street and wind. Service was friendly and quick. I ordered the club sandwich which is priced at almost $20 and it literally had a shred of Turkey on it. When I brought it to their attention and asked for more Turkey they both acted hostile. I am a breakfast snob. Used to cooking my own food I am picky. This was an amazingly delicious breakfast. So many Benedicts to choose from. And the hollandaise sauce perfect. The potatoes were a tad cold but, the Benedict was so perfect it didn't matter. I ordered eggs Florentine and my sister got the crab Benedict. Both were hot and fresh. The eggs were poached perfectly with the egg yolks runny. Another reason for a five star is the service. Outstanding friendly customer service! I went to the original location a couple of times in the past a few years ago, but hadn't been since they moved. I was waitlisted out of my desired destinations, so decided to have brunch here. When I walked in, there was a host but nothing said 'wait to be seated' and I saw no menus. The host seemed to just be chatting with people unhurriedly and didn't acknowledge me after a couple of minutes, so I seated myself. And sat. And sat, unacknowledged. Finally one of the managers (I'm assuming) brought menus to another table and I thought he would bring me one as well; he didn't. When I asked him for a menu he did not seem pleased - in fact he seemed annoyed. I ordered an omelet, which took almost half an hour to arrive. It was distinctly small for an omelet, overcooked as others have mentioned, and honestly pretty tasteless. The couple of young bussers who came by several times to see if I needed anything were sweet and helpful - more so than the management. By the time I was paying the bill, the manager was civil. Not pleasant or nice, just civil. Whee! The only thing I actually enjoyed was the potatoes, they were good. The kicker? For bad service and bad vibes and shrunken portions of mediocre food for one, the check was $25. I will never be back. And there are quite a few 1-2 star reviews from prior customers, so it isn't just me. read more

This place checked all the boxes as a rocking breakfast spot in Monterey. We come to peninsula regularly, and my brother who lives here knows the local hot spots. He told us they had recently moved from downtown to a new location near the fairgrounds which was much larger. The Del Monte Cafe did not disappoint. We called ahead for a party of 9 for breakfast on a holiday weekend and our table was waiting for us when we got there. The place is much larger than their old cafe with room for many more tables. The menu was diverse listing breakfast standards, Del Monte originals and some delectable descriptions of sweet temptations to start the day. I had the Chorizo Omelet which was crazy good, topped with Avacado and loaded with savory veggies and chorizo, surrounded by hash browns and toast. Coffee was plentiful and because our party was so large, carafes were set out to accommodate us. Service was stellar. The place anticipated our every need and you could tell their experienced staff had done this often. Everyone in our party throughly enjoyed our breakfast. Not only was the food very good, but an employee, I believe his name was Nolan, came from the kitchen to see how we liked our meal. The service and the food were both fantastic, especially considering the power was out and they still served me a fantastic hot breakfast. But as far as ambiance and vibes go, the place still looks and feels like an old sushi restaurant- from the wall decor, the paint, even down to the sugar bowls and furnishings. I'm very big on experience, as well as quality of food and service. If the place had a minor facelift, I feel that this business could really pop off and deliver a great customer experience.
