We came here when in town for the aquarium (of course!) and found a quaint, authentic-feeling restaurant on the nondescript basement level of a building you would probably just walk by. Yet the ambiance, service, and food are very good! I love the various aspects of the decor, as well. Other than parking challenges on a busy night in the downtown, we were lucky to get a table for 5 relatively quickly, as this place isn't that large, with some additional bar seating, and it seems very popular. 5:30 was a great time, as we watched the waiting line grow longer after we were seated. Our server, Michael J., did a great job of greeting us, providing menus, and taking initial drink orders while we decided what to try. We decided to try BBQ honey wings, fried artichoke hearts, and onion rings for appetizers. The main courses were two orders of kids' cheese pizza and tater tots, a small dinner salad, a cup of New England-style clam chowder, and a NY Steak sandwich. The food came in a reasonable time, with appetizers and salad first, then the rest. The apps were good, but the onion rings were a bit greasy. The honey wings were well-liked, as well as the artichoke hearts, which, strangely, were not oily like the onion rings. Yummy! The cheese pizzas paired with tater tots were certainly different, but the pizza was more like a reheated frozen pizza. The tots were okay. The NY Steak sandwich was good as well, with a side of steak fries - obviously! Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would definitely consider dining here in the future when in town.

Went down to Monterey and was looking for some lunch and found the Crown and Anchor and wasn't mad. Food was solid (I had a burger and friend had a steak sandwich) and reasonably priced. The entire restaurant/bar is England/Boat themed which was really cool to look around at. Service could've been a little better. Waiter had offered extra condiments and I said I'd like some and then was forgot about until I was 95% done with my meal. Otherwise great place for food and drinks.

Our waitress was really into of it and got us seated, ordered, fed, and drinks out in an incredibly efficient time frame. I ordered the chowder and my partner order a BLT. I give the chowder a solid thumbs up and the BLT was delicious. This is a no frills pub with the decoration to match and I highly recommend stopping in if you have the chance .

One of favorites in Monterey! Definitely awesome food! Classic comfort food made right. Today we had the spicy meatloaf (not really spicy)and steak and mushroom pie... both omg amazing! Good size entrees, plenty of gravy, right temperature, excellent flavor. We also had a wonderful server... Kara. She helped by recommending the perfect drink fir the hubby. He wanted something different... tried a sample, and decided to get a black and tan. With Guinness and old speckled hen. Great beer, smooth flavor. Definitely a must try... very unique inside! Nice booths and great bar area!
My boyfriend and I randomly came here for dinner last night. He found this spot on Yelp, and I was down for some fish & chips. We found parking at the garage nearby which payment is not required after 6pm. We waited about 15 minutes for a table, which a server needed to wipe it down first before she could seat us. The place was decked out in holiday decor. So festive! My bf got the Bloody Mary and George Iii Steak & Mushroom Pie. I got the Caramel Apple Martini and Fish & Chips. He really liked the Bloody Mary, which he said that they don't play. lol it was spicy & strong. He also enjoyed the steak and mushroom pie; he said it was comforting. My drink was sweet and lovely. I loved the fries as they're were both soft, crunchy, and delicious! The server recommended the Sticky Toffee Pudding, and it was my first time having it. It was AMAZINGLY yummy! Sweet, hot, toffee pudding paired with cold tasty vanilla ice cream and a side of whipped cream. My only gripe is there's no music. I wish there was music playing. I just hear a lot of chitter chatter from the people. I would definitely return again whenever I'm in the area. :)
A cool place with friendly staffs and British theme decorations. Kids and pets friendly and they have outdoor seating with covers. We had their lamb shank and mushroom pie and some beers. Lamb shank was tasty but it was lukewarm when it arrived at the table; would have been better if it's hot, which would make each bite more tender. Food was reasonably priced though. They have daily specials, will need to come back to give them a try next time.
This bar looked like a locals place to hang out. We had dinner by the bar. Dinner was interesting. Not our favorite. Service was okay. Not much else to say.
Went out for lunch with my dive buddy to celebrate passing our open water certification (yay!!!!) and landed on Crown and Anchor. The British themed pub idea was very cool and we chose a spot in the back patio as the weather was beautiful that day. We ordered the fried artichokes (the best fried artichokes I've ever had!!), a crab and prawn sandwich, and some beers to wash it all down. Really delicious meal and kind staff, would definitely visit again if in Monterey in the future!
Had a recent weekend in Monterey and as a British ex-pat I love a good British pub and this was across the street so we just had to check it out! To start off we each ordered a cup of clam chowder. I wasn't expecting much but it was actually some of the best clam chowder I've ever had! Lots of big chunks of clam and really well flavored. For my main meal I had the Cornish pastie, it's listed as an appetizer but I figured it would be filling enough along with the chowder and I was right! I walked away stuffed, couldn't even finish it! Love that they put gravy on the side, as it would even be served in England, although the gravy was very rich so I couldn't use a ton. I don't recall what my husband had but I do remember that he was very happy with his meal also. Even though we were stuffed, when the server mentioned sticky toffee pudding we had to try it as it's one of our favorite desserts. Really good too! Great spot with great food and great service. Loved it!
What a wonderful place for dinner after the Laguna Seca hill climb event. This place was very accommodating with allergies.. I have a severe allergy to shellfish so fish and chips was not an option or eating anything fried as they fry everything in the same oil they cook the shrimp in. So I had an amazing French dip and a salad with balsamic and ranch dressing and it was amazing. My husband and father in law had the fish and chips which they LOVED. Our waitress Jacque was very welcoming when we walked in, always made sure our drinks were full, had great conversations with us and always had a happy look on her face when she helped us. After dinner brought a tray of desserts to the table and asked us if we wanted dessert and of course we couldn't say no because it looks as delicious as everything else on their menu. If you are ever in Monterey and looking for a great place with great service I highly recommend this place. This place is a hidden gem.
Went here cause the reviews were good, and it happened to be just across the street from my hotel, 20 second walk. I ordered my food to go and hung inside at the bar until it was ready. Ambiance and vibe were really good. The food however was very very bad. I got the Plymouth platter (fried fish, shrimp, scallops, and squid). They forgot the scallops. The fry on the other items was so dark, causing it all to taste bitter (likely dirty oil). The Cornish pastie pastry and accompanying gravy were good. The insides of it though.... So dry and flavorless. All you ended up tasting was the gravy. Food was a 1/5. Ambiance a 4/5. Rounded up to a 3/5 average as it is a bar first.
Three of us stopped by here on 3/8/26 during a road trip. It's everything one would expect out of a British-themed pub. It had good beer, character, and friendly bartenders. It reminded me of a couple of Irish pubs in and around Bedford and Boston, Massachusetts. read more

We couldn't decide on what to have for dinner after a long day of meetings and decided to swing by this pub near our hotel. It was very busy but we were able to get seating for 6 last minute. I ordered the Mule and it was great! I also ordered fish and chips! I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting this much food but no regrets as I was starving. I did appreciate that they had a kids menu and while the pizza wasn't much to write home about (definitely frozen pizza), my kiddo enjoyed it nonetheless. read more

The fish and chips were so good! The crisp, the flavor of the batter, the texture, all so perfect. The New York steak sandwich was also very good. We ordered a spicy meatloaf to share because I had to try it. Now, the word "spicy" didn't mean hot, but more full of different spices. Different from your typical home style meatloaf, but full of paprika, cumin, pepper, with a strong body for such a fluffy loaf. Our waiter was super sweet and the vibe was literally the cutest. Halloween decor mixed with a undergrad British pub feel. All was good and we will be back again. read more

Fantastic experience--chowder was rich and creamy and the mussels were plump! Husband ordered the short rib special French dip and the meat was so tender it melted in your mouth. Service was quick and refills were fast! We loved that it was a mix of local and tourists and there was so much to look at! We would go back anytime! read more

Such a wonderful spot for English fare. The ambiance was so nice and made you feel like you were dining in a real English pub. The food was delicious and our teenage boys were very impressed with the food and decor. Now, i is saying something when our teenage boys are impressed. This is definitely a place we would come back to when craving some English food! read more
WHAT A GEM! The service was amazing! The food was amazing! The beer selection was amazing! They had one of my favorite beers and some hard to find cocktail options! I ordered the steak and mushroom pie. Was not disappointed! The decor is great too! What an experience! Highly recommend and will definitely be back! read more
7.6/10 Ordered the New York Steak Sandwich and the Crown & Anchor Burger. Overall, the meal was just okay and unfortunately a bit underwhelming. Starting with the Crown & Anchor Burger, it ended up being the best item we ordered, though it still wasn't anything particularly memorable. The burger itself lacked seasoning and flavor, and while it was slightly juicy, it didn't really stand out. The bacon was the highlight, perfectly crisp and well-cooked, which added some needed texture. Other than that, it was a pretty standard house barbecue-style burger without any special sauce or elements to make it unique. Next was the New York Steak Sandwich, which had similar issues. The steak itself really needed more seasoning, especially salt, as it tasted fairly flat. The garlic roll didn't complement the sandwich very well and felt like an odd pairing for the steak. On top of that, the sandwich had an excessive amount of onions and sauce, which ended up overpowering the steak rather than enhancing it. Overall, it just lacked balance and flavor throughout. The small side salad was actually one of the better parts of the meal, it was fresh and light, though that's not saying a whole lot compared to the rest of the dishes. Service was decent; our waiter was friendly and attentive enough during the visit. The ambiance felt like a typical pub setting fairly dark and casual. read more
August 20, 2025. Evening. Ambiance: Loved the British interior and they did not disappoint. Service: Top-notch! Our waiter was incredible and very attentive but not in an intrusive manner. Food: Prices are higher but it is Monterey CA after all. However, the Bangers and Mash, my first, were incredible! And from my dinner partner, they were the best they had since London. The sticky pudding was very delicious and addicting. The drinks were generously poured. A great experience and one I look forward to visiting again! read more

Place is amazing just like you walked into a British pop. They have a nice bar area where you can eat at or the dining area or even outside area. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly and the food comes out fast and it's always amazing if there were a couple times. A must try if in the area. read more

After reading reviews, what caught my eye was the lamb shank drizzle w gravy and mash potatoes mmm. We parked right outside, only 1 hour limit, we didn't want to rush it so we parked down the street in the parking structure about $3. My husband had the rib eye steak sandwich, very good portion too w fries. We ordered the deep fried artichoke ( get some) and mozzarella sticks. They have a full bar, I had the peacharita very good. They held my table while we moved our car, they even put a reserved sign on our table, how kind of them. Very nice and polite waiter, the server was super cool and chill. Love the comfy atmosphere of a pub, first time experience like this. Lots of neat English Pub decor. Fun spot. read more
Super popular spot in downtown Monterey. The restaurant is fun & decked out with British pride. There is outdoor seating which I recommend if it is packed inside because it was hot! Service was friendly but a bit slow, but I am sure it was because they were slammed. They have a slew of British dishes such as Fish & Chips, several curries, Corned Beef & Cabbage & more. You have to request for water. Cottage Pie: Slim on the ground beef. Tasted bland. Sticky Toffee: Hard. read more

Excellent service, the host sat us right away and the waiter came over immediately to do a table touch for drinks, I ordered a Mai Tai and my Fiancé ordered the bees knees. Both were balanced and tasty. The waitress returned shortly after and we put in our order. Food came out super fast, which was amazing because we were starving. Loved the british ambiance and vibe!!! read more

My friends and I stopped by here after a wedding. It's closing in less than an hour. They are seating customers walking in, but the kitchen is closed. Drinks only. There's seating outside too and I prefer it over sitting inside for night time. Well lit. Good vibes. Server is friendly. Got one drink and left before they closed. A nice hang out spot. read more
Little hole in the basement that has amazing decor! Not overly decorated the feel is just right. We started with the beer battered artichoke hearts. The batter was light and airy, the sauce complimented it well. The drinks are strong! Very reasonably priced in this day and age ($14) I couldn't leave without having the plymouths platter because I am definitely all about the fried foods and seafood! Best combo to satisfy all my cravings. Our server was extremely nice and knowledgeable about the drinks and daily specials. She was very patient with us, I was so indecisive and she helped me with making a sound decision on some delicious food. 10/10 will be back when I get a chance! read more

My friend, Andree, took me here and I LOVED the experience! We got there around 5pm and there were a lot of seats but it started to fill up pretty fast. The restaurant is British watering hole themed! Everything is well decorated. I was so amazed by everything. The service was AMAZING!! The food was to die for!!! Everything we ordered was 10/10. I forgot to take a picture but we ate their Sticky Toffee Pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. read more

I loved the inside of this place, the ambiance, the decorations were all British haha. Dark lighting, a pub type of feel. It was really cool and they had a lot of unique options on the menu of course. Classic British dishes it seemed like, and huge drink menu, open bar, specialty drinks etc. food itself was okay, not a lot of flavor in my opinion, pricey of course. The portions were a good size and lots of leftovers. Service wise I really liked our waiter! He was super cool and friendly, he made conversation with us which was nice, everyone seemed really cool. The location is nice cause it's near hotels and a lot of shops. Overall the Ambiance was great, the drinks were great, and the location is great, and I think I might come back to try it one more time just for that! Overall though food wise wasn't too impressive; but I do want to try more! read more
