I finally was able to make a trip to Monterey/Pacific Grove, sadly it's been years. That being said we chose Rosine's because it was always a favorite of ours. Our order consisted of a steak salad/fries and a calamari steak sandwich. I can't comment on my daughter's food because she ate all of it with no complaints. Mine was ok, wasn't bad nor great but I was excited (I'm a fatty) about the slice of key lime pie I took home. Unfortunately I was really disappointed. No key lime "zing" to the filling and the whipped cream only had a small hint of sweetness. The sliced almonds were really unpleasant, they had the old rancid taste/smell. Overall I wasn't thrilled with the food nor the price. Service was below average, I say that because it was not busy at all yet we had to get the servers attention more than once, meaning she didn't check on us. We had such a wonderful brunch at Rosine's! We were told the wait would be about 20 minutes, but to our pleasant surprise, we were called to our table in just 14 minutes. I ordered the breakfast special, the Crab & Avocado Benedict, and it was absolutely delicious! The eggs were poached to perfection, and the combination of crab and avocado made every bite rich and flavorful. Definitely a dish I would order again! My husband ordered the Brunch Burger, made with Angus beef and cooked perfectly medium. It was topped with house-made bacon jam, cheddar and Jack cheese, bacon, and a sunny-side-up egg. The burger patty tasted hand-formed, was incredibly juicy, and all the toppings came together beautifully. We found Rosine's completely by chance while visiting Monterey. We didn't know the area, didn't have a reservation, and had been looking for a restaurant with this kind of menu. I'm so glad we walked in. We arrived close to closing, and the first interaction was a little rough. The manager told us, in a loud tone, that we'd better order right away. It caught me off guard and felt rude, though I understand it was the end of a long day and we had come in at the last minute. After that, the experience was amazing. The host and our waiter took great care of us, and the food was superb--honestly, above a 10 for me. Everything we tried, from the main dishes to the desserts, had wonderful flavor. Even the salad impressed someone in our group with its Italian flavors. Despite that first moment, we left happy we'd found Rosine's. I've only been to Rosines a couple of times. Last time was in July. I went on a road trip with my kiddos and landed in Monterey for dinner. It was alittle late and Rosine's was open. We have been in the car for a long time. So we were happy to land in for a hot meal. When we first walked in we were greeted and it was busy. The first thing I noticed was the smell of wet rag or something. It was very off putting. Not sure if it was in the carpet or something. But I tried to get over it and not let it bother me We got our meal and it was good as usual. My kids enjoyed and for the first time my kids enjoyed their cream of mushroom soup. So.. I want to love a place like this, small business, owned for three generations. But clearly expectations have gone downhill. The bathroom had fruit flies in it.. like MANY, which is gross. And the soup, which seemed like it was a main event because it was featured in the diners and drive in show took forever to come. It showed up with our entree but only after we asked for it. And the food overall.. everything was really sweet. The homemade potato salad, sweet. The bbq chicken salad, sweet. The ribs, sweet. The guacamole was partly brown and didn't have much flavor. Recently came to this restaurant and heard good things so decided to try it out. Being that it was Monterey we thought the prices were fairly good for the food. The outside looks nice, inside was clean and they had good customer service. One thing I'll add is the presentation of the food, we all got pasta and they looked sooooo good, and had a great taste as well. The pesto pasta was my favorite, but the Alfredo was pretty good too. I love Rose's and I know things happen. We eat quite a bit but not only did that happen with the plate and the potatoes we got home my mom and I and got very sick. The only thing we ate the same was eggs. I'm not sure what happened, but I will say I will always be back. Rose's is one of the better restaurants in my opinion and stuff happens. Nobody's got a perfect restaurant now I just need to get the cake. I was promised months ago because the cake I brought home was dry, but I'll figure that out with the manager anyways I'm not saying don't Go things happen. Everything on the menu is good. Chicken was well seasoned and the sauce was flavorful. Noodles were cooked perfectly and every bite was delicious. The minestrone was quite salty for my taste. My daughter ordered a bowl for dinner, but it was hard to finish due to the salt content. The lasagna was just ok. My other daughter enjoyed the seafood pasta, which was full of shrimp and salmon. I found the food was inconsistent although the overall dining experience was wonderful. The server was very friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I went in for a late lunch today and got seated right away. I noticed a weird odor in the air and on the booth. I read someone's review earlier and they said the same thing. I ordered a Margarita which was pleasant. For food, I ordered the lasagna. It was delicious. Everything I look for in a lasagna. The music that was playing was really off putting. It's an established family-style restaurant that doesn't need to rely on updated decor to draw business, because it's in a great location in downtown, has an excellent old-school menu, serves good food that is nicely prepared, and to top it off has a bakery case at the front checkout filled with giant cakes that you can get slices of "to go". My wife had the tortilla scramble and I had the open-faced hot turkey sandwich, complete with mashed potatoes and heaps of yummy gravy ... the kind that makes you wish more places still offered dishes like this. Stopped by Rosine's Restaurant while visiting Monterey. The service was great throughout the meal, and it's easy to see why this place is so popular with both locals and tourists. We started with a cup of their famous minestrone soup, which was solid. It was hearty and comforting. For the entrée, I ordered the lasagna with meatballs. Unfortunately, it was just okay. The lasagna itself wasn't bad, but it just tasted like your average lasgna. The bigger disappointment was the meatballs. They were cold, not tender, and lacked seasoning. The highlight of the meal was the Lemon Blueberry Cake. This dessert was absolutely divine. It was light, moist, and not overly sweet. The balance between the lemon and blueberry was excellent. After a fairly average entrée, the cake completely saved the meal and ended things on a high note. We were able to get a last minute reservation at this place for our anniversary dinner, and I am so happy we did! They had plenty of patio seating so we were able to bring our dog with us to join in on the fun. I ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo, and it was delicious. I personally love when my pasta has so much cheese so this place did not disappoint. The portion itself was huge and with 4 prices of garlic bread I knew there was no way I could finish my whole plate. The food came out hot and tasted like warm, delicious comfort food. During a recent road trip down the coast, after a long day of traveling, we decided to overnight in Monterey. We chose Rosine's because of its convenient proximity to our hotel and its highly appealing menu and it turned out to be an excellent choice, largely due to the outstanding service we received. We started our meal with a big bowl of the green pea soup, which is one of my personal favorites and tasted fantastic. We also ordered the ribs, which were flavorful and delicious. However, when our shrimp salad arrived, we noticed the baby shrimp weren't completely thawed, leaving the dish watery and lacking in flavor. This minor hiccup is where Rosine's exceptional customer service truly shined. During a routine table visit, the manager, Kyra, checked in on our dining experience. When we mentioned our concern about the salad, she handled it flawlessly. Kyra immediately offered to replace the dish and highly recommended the steak salad instead. It was an incredible suggestion the steak salad was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. Throughout our entire meal, our waitress, Emily, was wonderfully attentive, warm, and helpful. Everything is very good here. The location, easy parking, the food, the service - we had a very nice time. I got the salmon Florentine eggs Benedict - wow! The salmon fillet was huge, the eggs poached perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was divine. Only compliant is I couldn't finish it as it was so much food. Good problem, really. Hubby got the calamari steak sandwich. This is a beautiful 'piece of meat' breaded and fried - absolutely delicious. Having a breaded steak between two pieces of bread was redundant - so we sliced the steak into ribbons and simply ate as an appetizer, dipping the slices in the best tartar sauce I have ever had. The menu options for both adults and kids were amazing. 7/13/25 Zach and I decided to get brunch at Rosine's before heading back home. Since we had Coco, we requested an outdoor table. There was plenty of outdoor seating, but the tables and the seats were covered with lots of bird poo. We chose the table with the least amount of bird poo, but maybe the restaurant should try to clean the outdoor tables and chairs every now and then...our host didn't seem bothered by it which we thought was weird. After trying their lunch, I can honestly say that their breakfast was more superior. I ordered the Cajun Shrimp Pasta. The cajun flavor was just too overpowering, and could probably use some pepper flakes, pepper or even garlic to balance out the flavor. There was only 4 pieces of shrimp. Nice size shrimp but very soft with no bite to it. The garlic bread was also a bit stale. A big let down especially not worth the $30. Same with the Seafood pasta. I would prefer a whole piece of salmon instead of a bunch of small cubes and not many shrimp either. The Chicken Sandwich not bad and the slaw paired well with it, but it had like a dozen pickles crammed on the small bottom bun which made it turn soggy really quick. French Dip was good but I think it would be better on a hoagie or french roll instead of the hamburger bun they had it on. The Calamari Strips and fries was probably the best thing we had there. My family and I come back to this restaraunt almost every single year. This is a great diner that I highly recommend bringing a group of people too. The meals are affordable and prepared in good quality with plenty of flavor no matter what you select, however don't expect a high end quality-- just something a little more above what most diners serve. One of the best parts of this restaraunt is probably the cakes -- they're big (bang for your buck moment)! The service here is attentive, professional, and polite. I think we've had kind servers here every visit and never had any issues from them. It's quite a confusing place to work in with how bustling it can be sometimes-- so hats off to the Waiting staff! The funny thing is their breakfast menu rolls into the afternoon which is rare; so if you really still want breakfast, they'll make it for you. The most notable fact to this place is that Guy Fieri did stop by here in 2014. He loved their minestrone soup and lasagna. Had a family dinner here while visiting Monterey. This was a place that we saw on yelp but was also recommended by our hotel staff. We made reservations and we're seated right on time. The menu is varied with chicken, fish, meat, pasta, salad, salads, and more. They even have a kids menu which makes this place family friendly. They have cocktails and wine and beer. We had paper planes and martinis which were hreat and filled to the brim. We were able to make slight substitutions on Service was fast, portions are ample. The chicken piccata was done exceptionally well. Even though we were stuffed, we had to have a piece of their huge cakes. We chose the cookie batter cake, which has a biscotti cookie on top. Five of us ate it and all of us enjoyed it. We couldn't even finish it between the five of us. Highly recommend this place. We were so busy diving into our food. We started with the Chocolate Coconut Cake, and wow highly recommend. If you love Almond Joys, this cake is a must. It has the perfect amount of coconut shavings, almonds, and rich chocolate. Sweet without being overwhelming, incredibly satisfying, and super moist with a generous amount of filling. Absolute standout. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake was also very good. Truly the best family restaurant in Monterey. The service we received on my daughter's 2nd birthday (May 16, 2026) was out of this world. Our waitress, an older woman with chestnut brown hair (bless her - i'm so sorry i forgot your name!) was our waitress and she KILLED it! I got the lasagna with a cup of soup for an extra $1. For the soup, they were serving cream of mushroom or minestrone. I got the minestrone. From their menu, I saw that they were featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, where Guy Fieri tried their lasagna and their minestrone soup. Anyways, for the minestrone soup, it was very flavorful and delicious. I was surprised to find pieces of beef in the soup, but it also had a variety of ingredients too. For the lasagna, it was a huge portion. Pretty good, I loved the flavors of the lasagna. It had a nice sauce but a little salty for me. This also came with some garlic bread on a sesame bread. Lastly, they also have a bunch of desserts they make at their dessert case. You can go up to the case to pick which one you want. I tried their caramel cake - which had 6 layers where it was cake, caramel/syrup, cake, frosting. However - it was too sweet for me - but I tend to like things not as sweet. The cake itself was yummy and not too sweet if I didn't eat it with the frosting. I also got their lavender lemonade which had a nice lavender flavor with lemon. Nice refreshing balance for the meal. Well what wasn't mentioned in the reviews or on their menu is that Clam Chowder is only served on Fridays . We found this out after we were seated and served something to drink, now we are disappointed but didn't want leave because couldn't find anywhere else close by that served Clam Chowder other than places on Fishermans Wharf. So we tried the calamari steak sandwich but ordered it on grilled sourdough rather than the French roll It is normally served on. Came with sweet potato fries as an option. Sandwich was good but sweet potato fries were kind of rubbery. The salad was good with plenty of chicken in it and very tasty honey mustard dressing. Menu had a lot of options including some delicious looking humongous layer cakes for Il dolce. Our serve was friendly and accommodating on the bread change for the sandwich, prices were reasonable and it looked like they offer a full bar menu. Bright and simple dining room part of the old architecture of downtown Monterey, with outside dining as well. We enjoyed our meal but really wanted the Clam Chowder, I really thought that being a coastal fishing town that Clam Chowder would be a daily dish everywhere and not just on the wharf. Oh well.... Great little place. I tried their lunch on a break from a conference. I was greeted when I walked in and instantly steated as I was by myself. They had a large selection of items and served breakfast until 3pm. I ordered the Club with Garden salad instead of fries. The salad arrived first. It was topped with carrots and croutons with a side of ranch. Basic salad, but the ingredients were fresh. The sandwich arrived about 10 min later. It was stuffed with turkey, bacon, avacado, and lettuce. It was a monster and broke my fast like a champ. As for service, my waitress was nice but I think she may have had too many tables. It took a while for her to take my order and she only asked if I needed anything when she brought my bill. Someone else ended up processing my payment as she was still busy. Was scrolling through Yelp to find a place to eat and over heard about this place while walking around in the city. Total worth the visit! I ordered the salmon Florentine with a side of their Food Network, known beef minestrone. A cup is too small for a flavor this big, get the bowl! The salmon dish was delicious and the sides were so yummers! I was a hungry hippo but this would of been enough to go home with. The broccoli cheesey breaded thing and carrots was a good marriage to this dish. Ordered the German chocolate cake and it's very rich. Huge slice with multi layers. Will be snacking on this for few days. Ordered the lasagna to go, which is also seen on food Network. I took a bite of it when it was warm, it was great. I prefer lasagna cold, next day. (Explitive ) that was bomb!! I didn't take a photo cause I dropped the container and it got all shifted in the box, but it was so hella good. Huge portion. Cody was attentive and friendly.
