This is for take out: the whole experience was "meh". We needed a quick meal to take back to our hotel room and this was still open. Ordering was fine but we got back to the room and 1 of our salad containers was not closed and dumped out in the bag, we received no utensils or napkins. They never made our second salad. But it was too late by the time we got back. They did refund us, thankfully. The food was mid at best. Maybe the experience is different if you sit down? But everything, and I do mean everything, was bland. In desperate need of salt. The guac was terrible, the pico was probably the best thing, the mashed potatoes dry and bland, and the Angel Hair pasta was ok. Needed salt and seasoning but not the absolute worst. Oh Rosine, how good you were to us! Found this restaurant via TikTok and we originally came here just for cake but we ended up with drinks, a meal, AND cake. I had a peppermint martini and my sister had a RumChata hot chocolate......best holiday drinks I've ever had!! We then split a burger (forgot the name) that had 2 patties w/ grilled onions and mushrooms.....LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING...that burger was cooked/charred to perfection. Everyone online recommended Rosine's for dinner when we were doing research for our trip. Then we find out that they were once featured on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives? Absolutely became a must-stop, and they more than lived up to the expectations. Started with the Crispy Calamari Strips and Fries. Let me tell you - they do not skimp out on the calamari. Huge portion of thick, fresh calamari that was the perfect start to the meal. (Fries were fries, nothing special, wouldn't hold your breath for them.) For dinner, though, had to try the minestrone soup and Rosine's Lasagna that they featured on the show. These dishes were incredible. The lasagna was hearty, meaty, cheesy, and oh-so satisfyingly filling. We shared it between the two of us and were stuffed after, so I can easily imagine there being leftovers. And their desserts... You've screwed up if you haven't left yourself space to try their cakes. The availability changes day to day depending on what they've prepared that day. I wish I could remember the name of the cake we tried, but it was rich, decadent, and will please any sweet-tooth. Plus, the slices are huge and plenty to share. I was surprised by how reasonable to prices are. When everything is getting so expensive, the prices were lower than what I expected and the portions bigger than what I expected. A pleasant treat. Located in downtown Monterey on Alvarado. There's plenty of restaurants on the street but Rosines stands out and it's obvious with the lines and crowds you see there. Quality Italian restaurants can often times be hard to find but Rosines is a great option for those craving some good spaghetti, pasta, seafood, and steaks. They are known for their pasta and spaghetti but every thing on the menu is good and worthy of trying. It is always busy on the weekends so prepare for a wait. We came after Thanksgiving so they had a big Christmas tree up which was super beautiful, all the decor and interior was really well done. I didn't try their cakes but they were absolutely HUGE. Many folks were ordering and talking about their cakes which seem to be a big hit here. We ordered takeout. We were specifically looking for a chocolate cake situation, which of course was pretty notable. We ended up getting some of the Italian dishes for our mains. So we didn't dine in and I can't speak to the dine in experience, but I will say this was a good choice for takeout. I got the chicken Parm my wife got the angel hair pasta. Mean these were both very solid Italian choices but they weren't. You know standouts. They were kind of like what you could get anywhere. Which is what we were looking for. The cakes are good. I'm not really a big fan of this kind of traditional style of cake, normally it's just kind of cheap and not very high-quality in my opinion. I would say that to what makes this place stand out their cakes are not cheap or low quality. They do have some kind of fun things like I don't know Reeses or whatever smeared on them because you know their tags. But for what it is, this was a pretty good version of it. read more

Rosine's in Monterey is hands down one of the best local spots in the area. The steak sandwich for $24 was the best deal I've had in a long time packed with flavor and incredibly satisfying. My wife ordered the potato skins and loved them. We originally planned to finish the meal with one of their famous cakes, but we were way too full the portions are no joke. The menu is pure comfort food done right, and the atmosphere feels warm and inviting. Highly recommend if you're in Monterey and want a great meal at a great value. I'm going to be honest and start off by saying that I was sick and lost 90% of my taste but I was with a group and didn't want to ruin everyone's first time at this very nice restaurant My lady loved her meal and our friends did as well, my burger did its best to fight back into my taste buds. The service was prompt and professional and the ambiance was open and comfortable. After the dinner our friends got dessert, each got a slice of cheesecake that was the size of a football. We laughed and I swore they just dropped $25 a slice because after all it's Cali, I was shocked to learn those monster slices were $11 each. Now here is the only negative for me, because this gem is extremely affordable and with a big menu. Even with the loss of dear Rosine, the family-owned restaurant is still doing well. It's always busy - a favorite of both locals & tourists for the large portions & consistent flavors. I prefer Rosine's when the tourists are hiding, though. The pace is slower & the service is calmer. I've been able to tuck myself into a small booth & work remotely or read a book while eating (and drinking) over 1-2 hours. There are window seat options, as well as booths & tables. For busy times, there is al fresco seating with heaters or umbrellas - depending on your needs. Bathrooms are gender-neutral and single stalls for privacy. The restaurant is clean & servers always smile. Many staff are family members! Parking is available on the street or parking garage, or one can walk from home or a hotel. The location is perfect! Don't forget the cakes!! Oh my! Have a slice for your appetizer since they are at least 5 layers (or more!). **I should mention that during the Pandemic lockdowns, Rosine's stayed open thanks to mobile for delivery services (like UberEats). I worked in COVID response during that time & tried to limit my contact with people to keep them safe. Came in today with family from out of town. I know that often restaurants won't seat parties until everyone arrives, but with a large party, rain, and not a large waiting area it was pretty uncomfortable waiting for our table. The table was roomy and comfortable for all of us. But with the warm, wet weather the doors and windows were left open and our table had flies and gnats buzzing around the entire time we were there. It is very distracting and frustrating to be eating with bugs flying around your face. We had a variety of dishes- brunch menu item (CA Bowl), hot tuna, bacon jam and blue burger, hot turkey sandwich, calamari steak sandwich, and clam chowder. All the food was very good, very tasty. Huge menu with a lot of various diner-quality dishes. The chicken pesto sandwich is warm and buttery, and their other sandwiches also came in a great portion. My friend got the Angeline pasta and they were very generous with the tomatoes. The service was pretty quick and there's plenty of seating inside. Else you may find a parking space a few blocks down (and about a ten minute walk from the wharf). We opted for outside seating to avoid the additional wait. Lot of variety and a good brunch size menu. The Clam Chowder was excellent and if this came in a bread bowl, it could've been a meal in itself. We opted for the Crab eggs benedict, the All downtown and the chicken tenders and waffles. The eggs was slightly overcooked as we were expecting the yolk to ooze out when we cut in to it, but overall had good taste and fresh. The Chicken Tenders and Waffles is not something I would order again. I was expecting freshly breaded chicken or homemade waffles. Rosine's has been a downtown Monterey staple for as long as I have lived in the area. It has amazing comfort food for breakfast that includes various egg benedicts and chicken fried steak and more. Also one of the few places to get a 8 am Bloody Mary. The service is spot on with several people assisting in service. I think even the owner was helping out. The restaurant is spacious with multiple tables and an elevated dining area as well. I recommend getting here early for a seating near the window. Lunch with mom this past Wednesday at Rosine's Restaurant was delicious! Mom had never been and I hadn't stopped in since the time dining was only allowed outside due to the pandemic. The first thing that captured my attention was that cake display. Huge, delicious looking cakes of all flavors and a lone peanut butter pie that I had my eye on. We were quickly greeted and led to a booth at the rear of the restaurant. We arrived for lunch a bit early due to mom having an appointment in Monterey, but that was a good thing as the restaurant quickly filled up. The menu is large with tons of options (salads, pastas, entrees, burgers, sandwiches, breakfasts, etc). Mom chose the California Club (Sliced roasted turkey, avocado, Monterey Jack cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato on your choice of bread) on sourdough. She loved the flavors, but the sandwich was stacked so high it was difficult for her to bite into. A bit messy, but she polished off one of the three portions. I ordered the Roasted Turkey Reuben (Sliced roasted turkey, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, Russian dressing on grilled swirl rye bread). I loved the crispiness of the grilled rye. I loved that the turkey was not deli turkey. I could taste all the components of the sandwich in one bite and they complemented each other wonderfully. I would order this again, but to share. Portions are huge! Luckily we both opted for a salad as our side. Choices include French fries, house made potato salad, house made coleslaw or green salad. Caesar salad, onion rings or sweet potato fries +2. Petite wedge +4. Anything other than a salad would have been overkill with the portion size of our lunch. The green salad included fresh greens topped with shredded carrots and choice of dressing. I am not a fan of shredded carrots on a salad and would have preferred a bit of tomato or cucumber, but that's just my personal preference. Mom loves shredded carrots on salad so she was happy. Service was friendly and attentive. We were checked on to ensure we liked our lunch and whether we needed beverage refills. Really a great experience and we would return. Next time we will be sharing a meal though. Mom's clubs was enough to feed three and I was lucky to be able to eat 1/2 my sandwich. Sadly, no peanut butter pie for me this visit! Too stuffed... Located on Alvarado st is a cute restaurant that serves famous slices of cake. My daughter and I tried to get a seat to have dessert but the wait was 20-30 minutes. We decided to get it to go. We waited in line, gave our order, and waited. It was about 10 minutes or 15 before we got our slices. We took them back to our hotel room. My daughter got a slice of the sprinkle cake and I got a slice of yellow with chocolate fudge frosting. I was very disappointed. The yellow cake was so dry. I've had box cake that was better. The cake was way over cooked. The sprinkle cake was a little better. The frosting on the sprinkle cake was better as well. The cake is not worth the hype. We were very disappointed. We didn't have any reservations and I was able to just walk in and get seated upstairs at a booth. I came in because I was randomly in Monterey and wanted a crab Benedict and from pictures on Yelp it appeared that this place had them, however to my surprise, it's on on weekends, I think just Sundays, so I just ordered a drink. I was really craving seafood for brunch and didn't want to head over to the pier. I called two other places and they also didn't have any crab Benedict's and if so it's just weekends as well, and I don't eat pork and I didn't want salmon or veggie Benedict so I sat and looked at my options on their menu. I decided to get a drink while I figured out my next stop and came across this delicious holiday menu. I should have ordered two drinks because wowww this Christmas mojito was creamy and strong and delicious. They have a whole holiday menu of drinks and they did not disappoint at all. The inside was still decorated like Christmas and the vibes were holiday and warm. Service was great and attentive. I know if I don't come for food I can at least enjoy some good cocktails. This restaurant is super dog friendly on the patio and it was filled with dogs and owners which I thought was super cute. I want to start off by saying that spaghetti is my favorite food. That being said, I did not finish my pasta dish I got from this place, and neither did my kids. Looking at all the ratings, I had high expectations, and I was sorely disappointed. The "meat sauce" I got had no meat in it, and the meatballs tasted like taco meat. Not really a flavor combination I was expecting. The bread that came with it was also on a sesame seed bun.. lol the whole experience was very strange. I do have to give them credit though, the minestrone was really good. We ordered to go so I can't speak on the service or the atmosphere itself. Here for a quick getaway and decided try Rosine's for Breakfast instead of going to my usual spot in PG/Monterey area. I was instantly greeted and decided to sit outside to enjoy the sun shine, also due to an unpleasant smell from inside the restaurant. Please take that with a grain of salt as I am hypersensitive to any smell out of the norm. The breakfast menu is not extensive but still plenty of variety to choose from. Decided to order the Belgium Waffle with scrambled eggs and bacon paired with coffee. The coffee was great and the breakfast was ok. Grant it I ordered a basic breakfast and while it tasted good, there was nothing that made it special and or unique. If you're from the San Jose area I would compare this to Flames restaurant. Known for their large cakes and large portions. This is probably a good family spot for the reasonable prices and good food. read more
