It was New Year's Day and I went to Rosine's based on a recommendation. I was meeting my son and his girlfriend for a meal and this was close to where they stayed. There was a line outside (good sign) and we had a 35 minute wait. We ordered a California club, California omelette and a chicken steak respectfully. I used to come to this place an often with my boyfriend for breakfast. My boyfriend liked the California club (the fries were crispy!!) and I would get the French toast or the salmon florentine. The flies were the most annoying part. Always swatting them away and trying to protect my food and drink from them trying to land on them. They should get some fly/fruit fly traps to limit the fly nuisance issue. The texture of the French toast started to become mushy which I'm not a fan of. The strawberry cake is pretty good, so I'm excited to try out their bakery that recently opened up in Seaside. Fingers crossed it's good!! read more

Popular breakfast/brunch spot. We got here around noon and luckily it was a short wait. They have a big menu of breakfast and lunch items, also a seasonal menu. The turkey avocado mushroom benedict sounded good and that turned out to be a great choice. Plus they give you 3 eggs! Wow. It was such a hearty breakfast. We have been coming here every time we come to the area. For 30 years this place quality and pricing has held. Service is always great. Always order a cake or pie slice to go. They taste as good as they look. Last for 2 evenings slices are so large and didn't have to ask for napkins or utensils, they just see to all your needs. My S.O. ABSOLUTELY LOVES the eggs Benedict here so I agreed to go again and noticed on the menu posted outside that they offered fettuccine Alfredo and that you could add different proteins one of which was salmon (my favorite protein after bacon). I decided to try it and share it with our young one. It's funny because I know last time the omelet I had did not satisfy my internal cheese meter. Lol. I felt the noodles and sauce were incredible and definitely cheesy. Our kiddo said later that there could have been more cheese to which I laughed due to pure cuteness. They gave us garlic bread which was basically a hamburger bun cut up and toasted with flavor. It was pretty good. The lighting is nice and definitely not overly bright. They also have nice large family photos in a hallway leading to the restrooms. After a small amount of confusion when I asked about dessert, I actually spoke with the manager, Jacob, and he was not only super kind and understanding but helped to clear up the issue at hand. Dear Rosines, You're one of my favorite local restaurants and I come there quite often. I brought my Mom who is 102 yrs old last Sunday for brunch. We were served by your waitress Katy who has been there 27 yrs and she is a sweetheart. When she found out how old my Mom was she insisted on doing something special for her. Once we were ready to leave and my Mom stood up she made an announcement to the whole restaurant which was packed by the way that she was 102 yrs old and the restaurant erupted in the loudest applause I have ever heard in a business. My wife has been coming to Rosie's forever. I remember my first time coming here for our 1 year anniversary and thinking, meh. I truly didn't see the big deal. We also came for breakfast, and breakfast doesn't excite me. My childhood best friend discovered Rosine's, and his family will drive to Monterey just to eat here. When I heard that, I thought he was crazy. Today, we are meeting family. The in-laws are with us and my wife's uncle is meeting us with his girlfriend. I'm setting next to uncle and he's telling me all the things that are good here. He recommends the calamari steak. The reuben, French dip and New York steak sandwich catch my eye. I'm trying to whittle it down to one when I see the bacon jam and Bleu cheese burger. I don't find anything in the reviews on it, and uncle says it's new. That right there settles it for me. I'll be the first. Drinks get served and my coffee is missing. There is, however, an extra cup of hot water(?). I mention it, twice, and I get my coffee. There's no sugar so I try sweetener. Bad idea! But I'm a trooper. I drink it fast as possible, get a refill and ask for sugar. Way better! The food arrived and the burger is big! Like, I have to smash it down to bite it. In other words, it's perfect! The sweet from the bacon jam is great. I was a little concerned with how it would mix with the Bleu cheese, since Bleu cheese can be overpowering sometimes, but it did surprisingly well. The sweet kind of subdued the Bleu cheese. Brought it down a notch. I ate the burger no problem. The coleslaw however, I could only do a few bites. I thought it was bland. Should have opted for the fries or a salad. After all these years after my first visit nearly 19 years ago, I finally see the big deal. The food really is good. I wouldn't drive 2.5 hours here like my friend did, but if you're in the area, it is worth dropping in. Make room for dessert too read more

While in town on vacation, we chose to have Rosine's for breakfast due to it's proximity to the aquarium and the dining hours. We came early to ensure good parking and many of the available street spots were already taken. We arrived before the restaurant was open and found ourselves to not be alone as there were a few other groups waiting. From the outside....it doesn't seem like much....but the inside is very spacious and they can accommodate big groups. The staff is very friendly and helpful, always checking to ensure that our needs were met. We ordered the Downtown, Jim's Special, the Turkey Avocado and Mushroom Benedict, and the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. I will say that while the food was good, there was nothing that really made the food or flavors really stand out against many other establishments. The one thing that does make it stand out that we didn't have the chance to try is their amazing display of dessert cakes and cookies. planted right in front of the door as you walk in, this is a very effective subliminal message that you like cake. That you love cake. LOVE cake. Sadly, we were unable to experience this display of awesomeness as we were not only full, but were headed to the aquarium and didn't want to have anything spoil in the car. Great food!!!! The chicken parm was so delicious oh my and it was such a huge portion I had tons of leftovers. My boyfriend got the steak and it wasn't as good but still cooked perfectly. There desserts looked delicious and seemed super popular but we got so full from dinner we didn't attempt to try it haha! Definitely homey style type food and since this is in a prime location in downtown Monterey it was packed!! Especially for a week day! I was a bit surprised. I didn't see much parking available unfortunately and we came here because it is walking distance from the Marriott hotel which is great! I told the staff that I had a reservation and they immediately lead us to our seat. The waiter was friendly and very informative. We started with drinks my wife had raspberry lemon drop and I ordered maple bacon old fashioned. We also ordered the calamari with fries. My wife loved her raspberry lemon drop. She said it was delicious and very refreshing. I love my old fashioned. The flavors were outstanding and the presentation was spectacular. The calamari was cooked to perfection and the flavor was delicious. The fries were crispy and seasoned well. My wife ordered the Cajun pasta with shrimp. I ordered the stuff salmon with broccoli casserole and rice. My wife loved her pasta the sauce to noodle was portioned out well. She loved her shrimp but would have liked a couple more. My salmon was cooked perfectly with the spinach and feta cheese mixture inside. The broccoli casserole was great and the rice was good too. We ended the dinner with carrot cake. The carrot cake was moist and very filling. I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was moist and the chocolate chip was delicious. The ambiance is customer friendly and the restaurant has a date night vibe. The menu had great selection when it comes to breakfast, lunch and dinner. We went for dinner and then breakfast the next morning. We attended a show at the Golden State Theater, (basically across the street) and stayed overnight at the Marriott (less than 5 min walk). For dinner we had the DDD famous lasagna, minestrone soup (omg) and one of the best chicken parm's I have ever had. So crispy and flavorful. I ordered a ceaser salad and requested anchovies, which they did not have. Kinda surprised, by that but ok. Service was fantastic, prompt and portions are large. We returned for breakfast the next morning and had a Bacado omelet (lacking in avocado) and chicken fried steak. Wow, delicious, and again perfectly crisp. We ordered cake slices to take home, carrot and caramel. The slices lasted us a few days, they are that big and oh so yummy! We will definitely return when in the area. Went to lunch at Rosine's. Haven't been in years so it was nice to be back. They serve breakfast till 3 PM which is a plus. I got the family burger and asked for medium rare. The waitress asked if I could do medium. I said yes, but unfortunately my burger came out well done. My spouse got the traditional eggs Benedict which he enjoyed. We got the trio cake sampler to go. So sad to report the cake we got: banana, carrot, and chocolate with cream cheese, was pretty dry. The carrot was the most moist out of the three. Not sure if it's because they'd been sitting in the fridge for sometime, given they are so large in size so I assume it takes them some time to sell, but the banana cake really needed to be more moist. Add some sour cream, greek yogurt, or mashed ripe bananas throughout to get that nice moist consistency. I would probably return, but would definitely pass on the cake. Impressive to look at in their display case, but not worth it. Service was good, except our server was managing many tables so we had to wait a bit for the check and a to-go box. Came with a large party and even though we had reservations it took some time to get seated. The waitstaff was nice but the food was not anything spectacular. Felt like they didn't need to try that hard now that they had the Fieri stamp of approval. It's a large restaurant with a casual vibe and surprisingly wasn't that noisy considering the amount of people inside. First, let me start with the Tortilla Scramble. On the side, it comes with tortillas so that you could make a breakfast scramble, or just eat it plain. I had it with ketchup, but you can also try it with hot sauce. It tastes just like your regular breakfast burrito, simple but delicious! Second, the Chili Egg Puff. The Chili Egg Puff has jalapeños inside, and a kick of spice. I think it was pretty good, but one of my least favorite out of what we got. It was still pretty good though. Next, the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes. They were probably one of my favorites out of what we got. The frosting was amazing, but sweet. I would eat this for every meal if I could, because this was right in my wheelhouse. Next, the Breakfast sandwich. It was AMAZING! It had avocado, tomato, bacon, eggs, everything. It was amazing with the fried egg, and I got fruit on the side instead of the country potatoes. Lastly, the Paradise Cove mocktail. The pineapple flavor was probably the strongest, but it was refreshing and delicious. The service was amazing! All of our food came very quickly and the servers came quickly to ask for food and give drinks and food, but I liked it. Finally, the mood was chill and fun. Everyone was smiling and enjoying their food, and having fun. This is an amazing restaurant, so now you can see why I have it 5 stars. I'm just sitting here in my hotel room and replaying each bite of the amazing meal I just shared with my spouse. He's from Philly and I'm from south jersey and we miss good Italian food as Bay Area residents. Diners, too. He went and did a pick up order as we're staying nearby and said it was popping. So many people and cakes like the diners we grew up going to lined the front of the restaurant. We always want lasagna and are typically disappointed when we order it. I think this may be the best lasagna I've had in years. The serving size was huuuuge. I really really wanted chicken parm. I always want chicken parm. I cried whilst pregnant upon being served a very underwhelming excuse for chicken parm. This chicken parm? I thought it was weird that it's served with fettuccine Alfredo so we added it to the lasagna and that was PERFECT. Added some minestrone as our side (there's a chunka cheese in it and tender beef???!!!) And we didn't need it but I got a summer berry salad since maybe we did need some greens. Everything was a solid 10. Unbelievable. And we didn't even eat it there but it was perfectly piping hot even though the spouse walked it back to the hotel. They are very generous with their portions and the food was amazing, delicious, just plain Perfection! Also I was pleased that you get toast, wonderful country potatoes( huge chunks) and three eggs served with these dishes in particular! Most places nowadays offer you one or the other when it comes to sides I can't believe I actually had leftovers! That never happens these days ! Outsanding Italian restaurant in downtown Monterey! The food is excellent. The service is almost always great. They have big french doors that open up for a breeze, bringing the outside indoor. We called around 2:30 for reservations for 14 and they sat us promptly at 6pm! I normally get the chicken parm, but tried the short ribs. They were tender, and seasoned just right. The gravy was the perfect consistency and the carrots were perfectly cooked. The brocoli was off- it was a little too sour/tangy. Stopped by for brunch last weekend and was a little underwhelmed unfortunately. We couldn't really decide on a place to have brunch but we noticed that Guy Fieri had been here so we decided why not. Wife was craving a smoked salmon eggs benedict and this place seemed to have one, but it turns out that's just like a baked or cooked salmon benedict. Our fault for assuming, I won't blame the restaurant for that. I imagine since we're closer to the water, fresh salmon is meant to be cooked and not smoked. Didn't know. I myself got a crab avocado benedict. The crab felt fresh, but what do I know. Each benedict came with 3 poached eggs, but I think 5/6 of them were overcooked. The potatoes were solid, nothing to complain about there. And the service was good as well. Probably a solid spot for Italian or lunch, but didn't get a chance to try it. Maybe next time. read more
