This is my go to spot when I'm in the Monterey / pacific grove area! The cafe is super aesthetic with ample seating, both inside and outside. Love that parking is usually pretty easy to find. The coffee itself is always a hit and I love their seasonally flavors and syrups. This time, I got the honey lavender latte and it was so delicious and floral! The staff are super sweet and the baristas nail the latte art every time.
Everything about this place was amazing! I got an oat milk cappuccino and their espresso was so smooth and delicious. The ambience was clean, inviting and made me feel so happy just walking in there. The service was great. They were super fast despite being incredibly busy. Even if you had to wait a little bit, it is so nice in there that it's relaxing. It's a vibe, definitely a must try.
Amazingly good coffee. I was staying in the downtown area and was happy to find this place near my hotel. I order three hot vanilla lattes for myself and two other family members. Oh my! The coffee was rich, velvety smooth while the milk was steamed just right. Specialty coffee takes time to prepare so it was worth the wait. Staff didn't cap the lattes which I appreciated. I take that first sip before I cap when taking it to go. I wish I had time to sit down to enjoy it. There was plenty of seating. I will definitely come back when I visit Monterey. I did grab one of their pins for my coffee apron at home.
Took a day trip out to Monterey and had to stop by Captain + Stoker. Heard good things about this spot and it didn't disappoint. We ordered the golden latte and vanilla latte. Both were good but would definitely double down on the vanilla lattes next time. We showed up in the afternoon on a weekday and all the pastries were out, so I'd recommend coming early to try any of those. Parking was easy and the employees were super nice!
Captain + Stoker is one of the premier coffee shops recommended by Yelp users, so I had to try it! The interior is cute and bicycle decorated, and there's tons of indoor seating with people crafting, working, and engaging in pleasant conversation. There's a long street bordering Captain + Stoker with lots of parking alongside it. It's less than a 10 minute drive from downtown Monterey, so I would highly recommend this for anyone coming from out of town who wants good coffee and something nearby the tourist attractions. The hot latte was yummy and frothy, I see why this location has the hype that it does.
Local coffee shop with beachy vibes and random bike decor. They have some seasonal drinks in addition to the standard menu. I also saw quite a few bottled juice selections which seemed pretty interesting. Got an iced coffee for $4 and an iced seasonal gingersnap latte for $6.75. Quality was good and the flavored lattes aren't too sweet! Staff are friendly and the hot drinks come out in cute custom cups.
Came here for coffee and a pastry after seeing they had gluten free options... Got the Shaken Sesame, which was decent. However, I specifically came here the given the menu mentions gluten free options, and I've been here in the past and gotten a gluten free muffin. When I asked the worker if there were any gluten free pastries, she didn't even look at the pastry case and rudely told me no. Not a, "Sorry, no", just "No.". Looked at the menu again in confusion as the peanut butter balls literally in the display case are labeled as gluten free. Soooo are there actually no gluten free options, or was the worker too lazy to do her job? Either way, it's disappointing and misleading. Service needs a lot of work.
Popped in here last Tuesday morning after yoga as it was across the street from the Monterey Gym. We found across the street parking and didn't have to wait too long for a table. I went for their croissant sandwich (forgot the name) but they gave me extra veggie instead of the ham. I love that avocado is everywhere in CA. The croissant was fluffy and buttery and delish! The matcha latte was more of a green tea latte. They use an organic blend by Rishi. So it's not a traditional ceremonial grade matcha. But it was fine. My husband liked his coffee and croissant sandwich as well. I liked the vibes of this place, not too touristy, beautiful decor. Good drinks and food. Perfect spot post workout!
This coffee shop is so beautiful, I loved that bike hanging there. Super creative! Their coffee is really good. I tried their Colombia and Panama pour over and the Colombia is my favorite one. You should definitely try that one. The pastries were not that great, I didn't like the one made with peanut cream, and muffin was whatever but I'm here reviewing the coffee:) the service was amazing, the girl that took my order was very nice.
Absolutely love Captain + Stoker! We had stayed in Monterey for a night and needed a pick me up before a long day, and thankfully found this spot. There was a line, but it was well worth the wait! The baristas were friendly and the atmosphere was so good. Stayed in to enjoy our lattes and pastries. We got iced vanilla lattes with macadamia milk, and arguably, it was the best latte we've had in a long while. Also got a couple of morning buns and an almond croissant. The pastries were elite. Great texture and flavors. Loved our visit so much that we snagged a tee and some beans. Can't wait to come back again and support an awesome cafe!

Service was quick and friendly, and parking was super easy with plenty of open spots nearby. When I got there there was no line at all, but by the time I left there was a line out the door, which definitely says something. I didn't try the food this time, but everything coming out looked amazing. Looking forward to going back!
Fantastic: bright, open concept layout sprinkled with plants and friendly cashier. The artwork on their cups is super cute! This spot is very popular so expect a wait. We got 2 seasonal drinks and an iced latte. The downside was I didn't like the drinks as they all tasted a bit watered down and the Legwarmer (their version of the PSL) had an acidic taste to it so wouldn't return based on drink quality alone but the vibes make this place lovely.

Came here for coffee and a pastry after seeing they had gluten free options... Got the Shaken Sesame, which was decent. Stopped by before heading out to a racetrack! The two drinks that I got were the peach black tea something refreshing and I wish it had been a little sweeter. We came by early on a Saturday before our whale watching tour. I found myself saying "if I ever owned a coffee shop, I'd want it to be just like this..." that's how much I loved this spot. Ok so we shared an avocado toast which was divine - super fresh avocado, the right amount of olive oil, flaky salt and red pepper flakes. Yummm! Then we also got a pastry and their special "peach be with you". I will say - as much as it was tasty - the thickness of the bread vs toppings just wasn't quite right. Still one of my favorite places to stop by when in Monterey - I got myself a matcha latte and my husband got a cortado. Line was out to the sidewalk but the employees worked efficiently and as best as they could. Great drinks, good vibes, a clean restroom. read more
We had great coffee in a place that felt hip and awake. A line formed after we ordered our beverages and food and anytime a seat emptied it filled again soon. One large community table had the most chairs. Several people were working away on their laptops. Food was tasty- avocado toast, peanut butter and banana toast, chia seed pudding and a morning bun. Coffees ordered were a seasonal strawberry garden latte, London fog, and cappuccino. All the drinks were great. We ordered our food "for here" but they ran out of plates- we had to ask for silverware with each dish and it seemed to bother the staff a bit. Making it self-serve could eliminate that issue. Stopped in here a couple times while visiting from out of town after seeing good reviews and wanted to love it but was rather underwhelmed by the coffee. Cappuccino came out beautifully (pictured) but tasted a bit weak, as did the triple-shot iced latte I ordered a couple days later. Wasn't awful by any means but I probably wouldn't come back. I really love this cafe! The vibes are great here with so much space to sit and hang with friends and/or family or work. There is a menu and a special that they have as well. I really love the coffee here and the banana on sourdough toast was so good. They have a lot of drink options, food and pastries options as well. My partner and I visited this open-to-air coffee shop after seeing it on Instagram reels. I ordered the avocado toast and an iced Captain's blend, and they ordered the banana and peanut butter toast, and an iced vanilla latte. Our coffees were yummy and our toasts were very fresh. Some coffee shops are so good you would plan a trip back to their location for it. Captain and Stoker in Monterey is one of those places. I was going to get a cappuccino until I saw the "shaken sesame" on their seasonal menu. It wasn't too sweet, was slightly nutty, and you can absolutely taste the coffee! I love it when specialty drinks do not just taste of sugar. The coffee had a toffee-ish caramelized note to it but was also slightlly acidic. They ran out of their famed almond croissant by the time I got there at 10 AM, so I guess it's an excuse to go back next time! There's so much seating throughout and it felt like a community establishment. It has a very characteristically coastal vibe that's very casual but also elegant. read more

I am writing to report a serious and concerning incident involving a beverage I purchased today. Earlier today, I ordered a coffee and also purchased a pressed juice called "Recoverade." The coffee was fine, but I consumed the juice gradually throughout the day. When I reached about one-third of the bottle and attempted to drink the chia seeds at the bottom, I noticed the texture was unusually chunky and felt extremely strange--similar to shards. I immediately spat the contents back into the bottle and inspected it. Upon closer examination, I discovered what appear to be shards of glass inside the drink. This has caused me significant distress and concern for my safety, as I may have unknowingly consumed some of the contaminated product. This situation is extremely serious and poses a major health risk. I have a little cut in my lips I am requesting the following: An immediate investigation into this incident read more

My family wanted to try out the coffee here and was kind enough to bring me back a matcha latte. I usually add a touch of sweetness to my matcha, but they forgot this time. I found the matcha to be more bitter than other matcha I've had. Personally I like my matcha smoother without the bitterness. I'm not sure if it's the type of matcha they use here causing this. Unfortunately even after adding sugar to sweeten it, the drink just didn't have the cohesion I was hoping for. The vanilla syrup they make in house is supposed to be pretty good. I'll probably try to get that in my drink if I come back. Family mentioned that the coffee they had with the vanilla syrup was really good! read more

This spot is so cute!! They have a very cool ambiance inside, music matches the vibe. The service was efficient especially for a busy morning rush, towards the afternoon it definitely slowed down which was nice to work. In the morning it was hard to find a space to sit. They have a kid table, two regular tables, barstool seating and one long shared table. I would say this is a stop and go not much of a stay around spot just due to how busy and how many ppl are looking for a seat. They have one restroom and upstairs is only for employees. They serve some food items but the day we went they mentioned the kitchen was closed so we couldn't try anything. I got a hot matcha latte to-go and I would say it was good but if you like your matcha sweet this is not the spot for it. I still enjoyed my drink and the atmosphere overall read more
