Pasta with clams
Maria O.

This unassuming place is on a busy street near Cannery Row. There's parking on the street and we found a parking spot right in front of the restaurant. We arrived around 5 pm on a Wednesday and were seated right away. It's a small restaurant so it's good to keep this in mind if you have a large group. It took a minute to get menus and our drink order in but we weren't in any hurry. Staff were friendly and the area was very clean. I ordered the linguine with clams, which was an excellent choice. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the clams were delicious. There's a variety of dishes to choose from so it would be a great choice for anyone looking for a good meal.

A hidden gem! The food was delicious and the service was amazing in every way. They don't even serve breakfast on weekdays, but insisted on letting us order from the breakfast menu because the kids wanted it. We were so appreciative! Seriously, the food was incredible. We ordered: chicken and waffles, French toast, lighthouse burger, and hummus with handmade pita bread. Yummy!! Our server was so nice and attentive and lovely. The ambiance is adorable and the music is great tokWe loved this restaurant and will be back for sure! Thank you, Lighthouse Bistro!!!

Came here with a group of 6 on Thursday evening. For starters we had hummus, fried artichoke, calamari and baba ghanough, all were good. We shared vegan pasta and grilled salmon, they were so nice to split into two plates for us. We also had a cheese pizza. The entree were all great. We were told that the restaurant was newly opened and have a quick chat with the passionate owner. A little surprise from the restaurant- baklava home made by the owner's wife, it's great and not too sweet like the normal one. We have a great time.

I'm so glad we have this modern restaurant in our neck of the woods. It's beautiful designed to be elegant, we felt like we were in Italy with the music and the interior feel. The owner well very kind and provided great detail in the specials and proposed the chicken momos on the rainy cold day. Best momo's I've ever had. Not even kidding. The food here is amazing. My wife opted for the sand dabs and I the chicken Alfredo. I'm again not even kidding both dishes were amazing and full of flavor. This is what Monterey was missing, a place that actually has flavor in there dishes. We will definitely be returning and plan on spreading the word of this amazing restaurant.

Ambiance

It is a lovely little restaurant. Kind attendance, great service, good food. Great for a romantic evening with Sinatra and low light. Loved it, would come back again.

Hummus

It was wonderful! My friend and I came in during an outage in Carmel and the staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. They went above and beyond in everything! We had their pita and hummus, as well as the salmon and it was INCREDIBLE!. The inside is lovely and had great ambiance! Would come back again and again!

Clam chowder

Food was delicious, the sandab picatta was amazing, flavorful, light and perfectly cooked. The service was very good as well. The owner very attentive and kind. They have only been poke for 8 months. Come support this family owned business, you won't be dissapointed!

Wow what a great little spot! The music and setting was very cozy. We had both the chicken entrees as well as the chicken pot stickers. Everything was delicious. The vegetables on the side were perfect. Ralph took care of us with a complementary homemade baklava! It was the perfect amount of sweet. Would definitely be back if I'm passing through and would highly recommend.

What a pleasant experience! Ralph (?sp), owner, was our gracious host and waiter. We arrived just after 11 AM on a Friday morning, craving breakfast. Hubby and I ordered waffles and bacon. Food arrived exactly how we requested it, was hot and delicious. No other patrons in the restaurant the whole time we were there. Nice and quiet for us, but I'm sure the restaurant could use some breakfast business! Perhaps the lunch & dinner crowd is larger. Can't wait to try lunch or dinner next time we're in town! Located right across the street from Goodwill on lighthouse Avenue. Two or three small tables outside too, which I'm sure are pet friendly. Go check this place out!

Giant Pretzel with cheese

Ambiance was nice. Service was spectacular. You can tell the owner really cares about his customers.

They have a small lot with parking, which is fine if you get there early. You pick up a menu from the counter and order, then grab a table and wait for the buzzer to go off. The space is casual and stuff is served on paper plates, so this is not a date night place! It's really cute with all of their nautical themed decorations. They also have a bunch of merchandise and food related gift items, if you're looking for the perfect souvenir. Employees were friendly and helpful. We ordered these items: Fish and Chips - highly recommended! They're fresh and have that classic flavor you're craving. We saw a lot of folks getting this one. Not a surprise! You get 4 hearty pieces, hot and crisp. The "chips" had a bit of batter and were crisp on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. Perfect! Comes with a tiny scoop of coleslaw. Sablefish with butter - the person at the counter said it just came in today. It was super fresh and cooked just perfectly. Sablefish isn't super fatty nor dry, it's just perfect. Veggies were fresh and cooked throughly with just a touch of crunch. Rice pilaf is quite flavorful and delicious, just a touch greasy, but in a good way! Sand Dabs - DH noticed this special after we already ordered, but he couldn't resist. Cost was based on weight + $8 for cooking. They were lightly battered and absolutely delicious. Clam Chowder (smallest size) - surprisingly good too. They must've improved their recipe since the last time we ate here. It's very thick and hearty with delicious, sweet, small pieces of clam. Overall, a fun place for a fresh, casual meal. You'll need to bus your own table after eating. Bathrooms are outside in the back. It's not as crowded as the fancier restaurants. Kids loved the food. We'll be back!

I got the Cioppino, wife got the Crab Pasta and the kids got Fish N Chips + Chicken Tenders. I was very surprised to see a generous amount of crab in my soup. At some places, you get a claw and check that box off but not here. In addition to the real crab, there was a few giant shrimp, mussels, clams, fish, and calamari. Man...everything was very fresh and delicious. I would even have to probably say the best I've ever had! The soup was seasoned to perfection and not too tart. My wife's crab pasta was also very good! I shared mine with her and we swapped for a bit just to sample other dishes here. The kids plates were also high quality as expected from this nice restaurant inside the Monterey Plaza Hotel. To make my bday weekend even better I was able to score a spot right in front of the hotel which isn't easy since it was a non-raining Saturday. This is definitely a "come back and eat" place the next time we're in Monterey.

I specifically requested a table outside with a waterfront view, but was informed that none were available. After offering to wait, I was told that the lunch service was about to commence, and I acquiesced. Shortly thereafter, the host presented me with an indoor table, claiming that I would still have a view of the ocean through the window. Unfortunately, the view was obstructed by other diners, and I could barely see the ocean. As tables became available, I requested to be seated at one of them, but was denied due to the "lunch service". It was perplexing to see other patrons being seated at those same tables. Given the subpar experience, I opted not to leave a gratuity and because they do not accept cash.

We were a party of 11, so my daughter called ahead to make reservations for our group (5 adults and 6 children). They do have a kids menu and crayons and a coloring sheet of bay creatures to keep the younger ones in your party busy until the food comes. I got the Wedge Salad with Chicken. It includes a wedge of iceberg lettuce with blue cheese crumbles, bacon, tomatoes, and a HUGE amount of seriously tasty grilled chicken, all topped with ample blue cheese dressing ($28) and there was such a diversity of orders in our group that I cannot even remember everything ordered. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Prices are about what you expect for a sit down restaurant on Cannery Row in Monterey (high). Service was a bit uneven. We were seated right away because we did have reservations. However, our food did not all come out at the same time. The child sitting next to me did not get her pasta dish until everyone else was almost done with their meal. We had to ask to have our water glasses refilled. Some items that were requested when we placed our order came out too late to be consumed with the meal (example, requested pickles for a sandwich came out after the sandwich had already been consumed). Now for the challenges: There are no parking facilities near this restaurant (the hikes from parking garages and lots is quite far on unlevel terrain). The bathrooms are in the basement down some very steep stairs and there is no elevator for the mobility impaired. The layout of the kitchen in relationship to the entry to the resaurant, the kitchen, the stairway to the rest rooms and the dining areas is very awkward--leaving patrons with the feeling that as they enter or exit the dining areas or try to get to the bathrooms, they are in the way of servers bringing large trays of food from the kitchen.

The only thing I wasn't fond of were the lady workers (I'm assuming bussers?) ..the look of total disgust and judgement on their faces every time someone came in or said something to them was unreal. I know the other guests didn't notice, thankfully, but it was hard to watch. Over all, tasty lunch, a little pricy (but that's assumed for the location), and I'd consider trying this restaurant again.

All of the desserts seemed delicious but we settled on the Ohana Pie for $15. It was exactly what I wanted and a large serving that was perfect for the both of us. I have absolutely no complaints about the food. The service however was bad. There is a bar in one room and additional bar style seating in another. We took a seat at the bar style seating (not the actual bar) since it was self seating and the restaurant was mildly busy. It took a while for a waitress to come up to us and take our order. When she did we made it clear that we just wanted to dessert to split and a couple glasses of water. When she brought the dessert out 15 minutes later she brought our check out with it. I took a bite of the dessert and then immediately put my card down so that she could take it whenever she came back. She did not check on us again for a full 40 minutes. The only reason she ended up coming up to us is because I was turned in my barstool waiting for her with the bill in my hand. We wanted to ask for napkins since we were eating what was essentially ice cream cake and didn't even get those until we were actively leaving. The dessert was good, but I hate when a restaurant offers self seating and then does not do a good job actually servicing it. I don't know if that was the reason the service was so terrible or if it was because we were only ordering dessert. It was disappointing to feel like we were being ignored by our waitress when she was incredibly attentive to other tables.

Upon walking in, the staff didn't pay attention to us, but we just felt laidback that night. One of them, a younger gentleman, turned around and saw us and his expression was one of both apology and surprise. And he quickly seated us and brought us water and also bread and butter after. Then, our server came and took our order. We basically only ordered one thing plus a chowder, and he didn't hassle us to order more or to order drinks. I asked if it would be enough for us and he said, yes. So here's what we got: Fisherman's Wharf Cioppino - $48 (Added a cup of chowder, which is $6 vs. à la carte at $12) And here's what we thought: Clam Chowder: Thick (maybe even thiccccc) and creamy and plenty of clams in it; it's legit! Cioppino: Wow! Plenty of flavor and also plenty of seafood in it - shrimp, fish filet (there was salmon and white fish), clams, mussels and crab. We asked for more bread to soak up all the sauce, and without hesitation, they brought it to us without charging us. Nowadays, most places don't give you free bread so when a place does, sometimes, the second round might be a charge. But no, free. Yay! We were quite full after. So no dessert. They offered more water for us and noticing I had a water bottle, my server actually filled it up for me. Given it was seafood and with tax and tip, it was $70 for two people. Sure, a little pricey but given how much stuff we got and the great service, we felt it was worth it and a good value!
