It will remind you of a mongol grill in how the food is cooked but there is no comparison in taste & quality of ingredients. You select your bowl size, you meat or other protein source & all the vegetables that will fit. There is no weighing, just the reasonable flat rate. I liked the variety of fresh vegetables and sauce you can choose from. Also liked the wild rice option which you aren't being charged extra for, like a lot of other restaurants. Despite being busy, servers clear the tables efficiently and keep the place pretty clean. Next time, I would ask for extra sauce and my beef cooked medium rare. One weird thing was that they had a self serve pop machine, but I didn't see any posted prices. Maybe because they want you to order their expensive fruit juices and smoothies, which frankly didn't appeal to me. Especially after seeing one separate into mostly liquid in the cup. Goodbowl is located in Richmond on Alderbridge Way and Garden City Road, in the same plaza with Walmart Supercentre. Their concept is you build your own bowl (Kid's $6.95, Regular $9.95 and Large $12.95) with your choice of rice (jasmine, harvest or wild rice) or noodles, select your vegetables, pick your protein, choose your sauce, and watch your food cook in front of you. It's very similar to Mongolian style cooking, but a ton healthier considering the quality, amount of vegetables, and their specialty sauces (which are actually healthy). What I love about Goodbowl is that you get an UNLIMITED amount of vegetables, whatever fits in the bowl is yours. I love my vegetables and when I hear the word unlimited, I go crazy. Their selection of protein includes AAA Certified Angus beef, free run/grain fed/ hormone free chicken, Sakura pork, and tofu. Adding a free run egg will cost $1.95, prawns $3.95, or extra meat $2.95 (regular bowl) and $3.95 (large bowl). The prices here are very reasonable. GOOD WATER Sparkling water infused with pineapple, cucumber and oranges. Light and refreshing. CHICKEN SALAD ($11.95) Starting with the chicken salad, it's currently a trial item at Goodbowl and I hope it's here to stay! Loaded with oranges, apples and pears along with broccoli, red peppers and spinach, it's definitely packed with vitamins. The well caramelized chicken tastes juicy and I personally eat my salads with no dressing, which works as long as you have the right ingredients in my opinion. Having salads with no dressing is also recommended by Goodbowl to promote healthier eating. There is a dressing for those who consider it a must need though, a light zesty tangy ginger vinaigrette. CHICKEN/WILD RICE/BIG SHAWN'S MIX/EGG. Now onto the stir frys and off the current Top 5 mixes is the Big Shawn's, a sauce consisting of Thai red curry, Hunan and coconut lime leaf. The fluffy wild rice soaks up the delicious creamy curry and exhibits a hint of tanginess and spiciness. The juicy chicken is also well cooked and seasoned (sesame oil, kosher salt and Madagascar pepper), and the perfectly fried egg has a nice crispiness on the bottom. I highly recommend the Big Shawn's mix. And to add an egg. CHICKEN/NOODLES/AJ'S MIX. Another sauce off the current Top 5 is AJ's mix, which contains teriyaki, chipotle coconut and Hunan. There is a medium level of spiciness, juicy chicken once again, and you can really taste the coconut. AJ's mix is another one of my favourites. Came here earlier today and it was only their 4th day. Essentially the same as U-Grill where you choose your own ingredients. The difference is that U-Grill is based on weight but Goodbowl charges a fixed price dependent on size (kids = $6.95, regular = $9.95, large = $12.95). You get to pick as many vegetables as you'd like, pick a protein, rice, and sauce (with the option of adding an egg for extra). The place is extremely clean (as expected for a new business), the food was pretty good, and the service was great. The one blemish from our experience was they messed up the sequence of the orders, but I'll cut them some slack for being so new. I'm interested to see how their wait times will be with increased traffic, considering it was still a wait despite us being the first customers, and how they'll maintain the cleanliness. We've been regular clients since they opened, food has always been good. Place is bright and clean. The smoothies are expensive and not consistent, it all depends on who makes it. I'm giving three stars for two reasons: it's been MONTHS that their credit card machine is "broken" and doesn't print receipts. Unacceptable!!! By law, businesses must issue a print receipt of the credit card transaction. The only explanation I find is that their machine is not broken, I guess the owner just wants to save money in the rolls of printing paper? Another star lost: we were there around 6 pm on June 29, one of the staff members who was handling food and smoothies at the time WAS NOT WEARING a face mask. Unbelievable!!!! The cook of your kinda seems lackadaisical some veggies would be cooked really mushy and some close to raw. Checked out Goodbowl one evening and you know when you walk into a place and feel the good vibes instantly? Yeah, that happened. Before I even looked at the menu, there was a girl standing there already greeting me with a big smile. She explained to me what my options were for vegan friendly meals. I got to the cash reg. and there was another staff who was radiating positive vibes and was so welcoming. He told me they would wipe down the grill and use different utensils on the open grill for me. I also ordered a juice and when the machine was churning out a pulpy juice, another staff immediately noticed, said it wasn't supposed to come out that way. He said they will fix it because it didn't look right and they would bring it to my table. I felt so taken care of! The meal was awesome, full of flavor. Another staff approached me and offered to take away my dishes and asked if I would like a glass of water. I wasn't anticipating a full service feel... But that's what I got. It was my first time trying goodbowl. Everything was perfect. If your looking for something yummy and healthy, this is deff the place to go. They had a great selection of Vegis and protein for the stir fry. Everything was cooked to perfection. My fav party was the juices. They make this carbonated Aida water and add fresh fruit to it. It's so simple yet so good. The staff there were amazing, I got to talk to the GM Leslie and she was great about telling us all about the food and the resto. I went on a mother-daughter date with my mother to GoodBowl and we had a wonderful experience, from service to the last drop of juice dripping into our overflowing juice cup. Both my mother and I ordered a regular bowl with noodles, veggies and 1 type of protein. We proceeded to check out to choose various types of sauces. Due to the weekend, there were many bowls in front of us waiting to take a nice sizzle on the large circular cooktop. I was worried my protein would be overcooked but nope! Everything was perfectly cooked from our AAA Angus Beef and Sakura Pork to the fresh and vibrant veggies. The sauces made eating vegetables exciting! I had the Thai red peanut sauce and my mother had the citrus sauce. Both were excellent and I would even take a bottle of it home if they sold it in stores. The juice bar was a whole new experience. I got to see my juice flow out of the counter and into my cup. I never had a beet or pear juice base and it was amazing. Mixed with watermelon, pineapple and apple, your juice comes with a light and fluffy juice foam and ombre juice in the cup. This would be the only juice I would be willing to pay for because it tasted refreshing and concentrated with the fruit I chose. I drank the whole cup before my food came. The only critic would be the air ventilation in the store. I came out smelling like the grill but don't worry, I raised that concern with the owners. read more

Got a beef bowl with their spiciest sauce and an egg on top as my first bowl there and I'm glad I did! Everything was super fresh, you can tell just by looking at their ingredients before they grill it for you. The accompaniment of the smoothie also went really well with the bowl. A mongolian grill style spot, but where you pick a size of bowl you want, and the staff puts in it the bowl for you behind the counter. I wish they would tell you beforehand that you can only choose up to a certain amount of ingredients. I got the regular bowl, and by the time i got to the cauliflower and broccoli the staff said i had to pay extra for them because there was no more space. Couldn't tell what the measure of space was, and there was no weighing involved. I asked if i could put back some of the ingredients to make room for the broccoli and she said no because it was already contaminated. I wouldn't have gotten so much of the other ingredients if i had known beforehand that there was a limit! read more

Update: received a call back from the Richmond health inspector a few days ago and he told me that the grill is not chipping away pieces of metal into the food. The Metal like pieces that I found in my food were in fact pieces of old food that had never been properly cleaned off of the grill and had continue to burn and burn and burn until it became a charcoal like substance. Honestly I feel like this is even worse because it shows that this restaurant does not clean their cooking utensils or surfaces properly. The health inspector told me that he would go back at a later date to make sure that they were cleaning properly again as they had been issued a warning by him. read more
