I made a special trip to get to Malaysia St. Restaurant at 3471 No. 3 Rd in Richmond because I was craving for Mango Sticky Rice. There's a big sign of
the previous Crispy Hut. They should remove the signage as it is confusing
for the customers who are going there for the first time. Anyway, aside from planning to order the Mango Sticky Rice, I was planning to order their Roti Canai. However, I saw a lady eating their Hainanese Chicken, so ordered that instead $16.99. BIG MISTAKE!!! They served a teeny bit of slightly hot sauce with garlic which taste somehow can't go with taste of the chicken. The chicken came with some fried rice with a fried egg on top. The whole thing was served on a woven basket with a little big fresh veggie, and some bean sprouts were underneath the chicken slices. Somehow, their Hainanese Chicken doesn't taste like the ones I've eaten before with ginger and green onion sauce. It just didn't taste good to me. Unfortunately for them, I spoke my mind and told the cashier and the owner, their Hainanese Chicken is below my standard. The same with the lady who was there before me. She didn't finish her order of the same. I took one bite, after dipping it in the sauce provided and I couldn't eat any further. So decided to take them home and will make the ginger and green onion sauce for it.
Their Iced Kachang is ok but at $9.99, I think it's overpriced. Not very happy about the chicken, I decided to cancel my order of the Mango Sticky Rice $7.99. I asked to have a look and was just shown the sticky rice from a distance. It didn't look moist and the mango I saw was quite small.
Sorry but no, I won't recommend this place. read more
