Gong Cha is always a hit or miss, so I am always hesitant but it's kind of near work and I need my bubble tea fix. This particular visit 3.5/5. When I initially walked by, the shop didn't look open but I kept thinking "bubble tea...", so I tried the door. And sure enough it was open. I ordered the Matcha Milk Drink with half coffee jelly and half pearls. The matcha was very strong and not milky (the way I like it). I'm not sure if it was because the matcha was so strong, but coffee jelly (+$1.00) did not taste like anything, so I would pass on that next time. Pearls had good chew. There are way too many bubble tea chains sprouting around the lower mainland lately; however, I feel that Gong Cha is one of my favourites in terms of its taste. Of course, it is more expensive than other chains. I've been here three times and the drinks never disappoint. Basically, the taste of it makes up for the slightly higher price tag. This location is extremely convenient. It's right where Canada line Brighhouse station is. There's also free parking in the parkade behind the store. I recommend calling the store to ask which stalls can be parked. Be sure to ask the staff for a parking slip once you enter the store. This is a great place for casual chatting with friends or siblings. I came here with my brother after our dinner. It was his first time here. He got his usual - wintermelon drink, and I got my brown sugar oolong tea with coffee jelly. Note that for this brown sugar drink, you can only customize the sugar level to 70% only. I basically love any drink with real Chinese black tea (oolong, pu-erh, etc) and coffee jelly. I always ask for no / less ice and less sugar. I feel this is the perfect combo: you'd get the slight bitterness of the black tea mixed with the sweetness of the coffee jelly. My brother stated that their wintermelon tea is way better than the one he had at another popular bubble tea chain. Birthday promo was the reason I went here on Dec 14th (right on my birthday!), and I really had to go here to get discounted bbt. It was empty when I went here around 1ish and the service. was fast. I got Matcha Redbean slush (original price of $6.90 including pearls, $6.60 without pearls) for half off, and it was yummy! Some drinks can be expensive as this, but it was worth the visit! GongCha often has promo like Coco and I can't really say which one I like better. I haven't tried other ones especially milk foam series, but I'd like to try them someday. Also their promo includes upsize option and $2.99 deals on drinks. Because of the promo texts it brings a reason to buy Gong Cha for a discounted deals or half off birthday specials. read more

After falling in love with Gong Cha in HK, I wanted to see if it's the same thing with the one here. The menu isn't the same and they don't have what I tried in HK. This time I tried the peach and yogurt drink. At first I thought it was a tea but it was basically just peach juice with yakult. Even though it was supposed to be 70% sugar, it was still wayyyyy too sweet. The peach tasted very artificial. The place is small and clean. We were looking to satisfy our bubble tea craving and this place was reccomedned to us. When you walk in, the big bright menu is to your right and it is a lot to take in and to think about what you want to order. I have been loving regular milk tea with pearls this past year so I decided to get the Royal Milk tea with Pearls. My friend and I shared the Mango Egg waffle with ice cream. Since we came at opening, at 1pm on a Sunday, the pearls were soft, fresh and just delicious. I ordered 50% sugar but I thought it was still pretty sweet. Since mangoes are not in season, the mangoes on the egg waffle were not that good. It comes topped with an ice cream. It also took about 20 minutes for them to make the waffle which is quite long. It is almost like we forgot about it. This location is right next to the BMO bank and parking is limited to street parking along the street Saba which has pay parking. Although, on the door of Gong Cha, it says free parking up to 4 hours? We didn't inquire about how that worked though. read more

On normal occasions I would've given it more stars. But today I'm extremely unpleased to find that Gong-cha has shrunk the size of their large cup, it's still a tall cup but the diameter is slimmer visibly slimmer, this makes it very expensive for a cup of fresh milk tea, I can customize my own trenta sized milk tea that's passable quality in Starbucks for only $3.62. They're now the size of Coco which is a full on terrible brand. Pros: -Standard Taiwanese tea. - They're virtually everywhere. (except for in Taiwan, theyre just not good enough to compete with other tea chains in tw) -it's locationed in a extremely convenient place. Cons: -Inconsistant brewing capability. Some days it's good, some days they don't do so well. -They've shrunk their cup to the size of Coco. Which is very sad for 6 dollars. -it is a full dollar to swap to milk which I think is completely unreasonable, for the price of the tea is already extremely high. Before yifang came to Vancouver. This was my go to place for milk tea. This place can brew standard Taiwanese black tea. I'm unpleased to find that they've shrunken their size to the size of Coco. For 6 dollars. I've had a craving for an authentic milk foam tea like what they serve up in parts of China. Having first falling in love with the drink in Shanghai (the drink originated in Guangdong), I have been looking for it in Vancouver. The few placed I've tried here just don't make it with the same ingredients. Dubbed the "Chinese Capuccino", it's a cup of tea (black, rose, green, oolong, etc.) that's topped with a very thick foam. It's almost the consistency of the mousse you put on your hair. The foam is typically made with milk, cream, salt, and cheese. It's the salt and cheese that gives it the unique taste and texture. The combination of sweet, salty and creamy taste mixed together with some tea coming through the mixture is superb. Knowing that Gong Cha is a huge chain in Asia and elsewhere, I thought I'd give them a try. Though it's a big chain, it is not known to the be the best in China - there are better franchises there. You won't typically see lineups at Gong Cha's in China or Taiwan but you will for some other chains. However, when one has a craving and there's slim pickings... I had their hot milk foam black tea. The good: The tea itself was full bodied and at the right temperature. Five stars. The not so good: The foam was a dissapointment. While it was probably the closest taste I've found so far, it was like, well, the Gong Cha's in China! That is, the foam was not as thick as it should be nor was it full of the creamy-salty flavor. Two stars. The only good part was that the tea itself made up for what would have been a dissapointing cup of tea. Pricewise, the drinks there are a bit on the high side though there are few others in the Lower Mainland that also charge above the norm. Drinks average $5+ Overall, it's a decent place to try out. If you're looking for a good hot or cold cup of tea (not the milk foam one), I'm sure it'll be a good experience. read more

So disappointed with this bubble tea shop. Not only is it expensive, it is slow and the drinks are mediocre. The service here is so slow, it took 15min for them to make 3 milk teas. The cashier mumbles when he's asking questions and looks like he doesn't know how to make anything. He was wandering back and forth like he didn't want to be there while the other girl made most of the drinks. I wanted to get an earl grey milk tea but I can't justify paying over $5 for a medium tea. I decided to get a mango smoothie anyway hoping it'd would be refreshing. I asked for 30% sugar but it still tasted like a cup of syrup with ice. I couldn't finish it at all. Not sure if the guy actually remembered I wanted 30% since he was following step by step instructions. I have no problem with someone still training but at least make it right. Their drinks are just kinda meh and pricey. Maybe I ordered the wrong things. I had the earl grey with 3js. Tapioca was not a good texture- too chewy maybe? Employees smoking in front of the front door. Kept chatting and didn't have my food until they saw me look at them, then turned to grab it, but it was already overcooked. Still gave it to me anyways and claimed that it was supposed to taste the way it is (semi-burnt). Chain store, so the drinks taste about the same as the other stores. I tried their earl grey milk tea out of curiosity to see if it would sway me from my usual favourite tea houses, sadly I could tell the quality of their tea leafs were just not that great, very average stuff. I've also asked to less sugar and it was still crazy sweet that it got really hard for me to finish the drink. I don't plan on coming back here... if you like sweet teas it's not a bad place to go but personally I prefer places that use high quality tea leafs and can accurately standardise it's sweet levels. read more

So when we went to Vancouver we made sure we visited it enough for the sentiments to be fulfilled.. He got his usual milk tea and me, the house coffee milk foam drink! I've tried this place many times, but never had the chance to write a review. There is a lot of room for improvement when this place first opened. Things were unorganized as the staff were still training and our drinks took a long time. However, I returned recently and things have gotten better! They have many drinks to choose from and they recently expanded to bubble waffles. I ordered an original bubble waffle, which tasted okay, but was a little dark and had a slight burnt taste - just a tad over done. Overall, this place is decent. It isn't my first choice bubble tea place, especially in Richmond, but can satisfy your bubble tea craving. It is in walking distance to Richmond Centre and the skytrain. I came here last week for my birthday with friends on our bubble tea crawl. The service was neutral in terms of friendliness, however, I felt that it was managed properly in terms of timing. Of course we were the only ones in there at the time for a party of 5. It was m B-day so my expectations may have been in a better mood. The only disappointing thing is that although they have a generous amount of selections they don't seem that compromising about formulation adjustments.
