In the area and was thirsty, so popped into CHICHA San Chen. No seating so a truly grab and go little place. The shop is bright, clean and modern. The staff were helpful, but more smiles would make customer feel more welcome. I saw two fancy brewing machines and saw the tea dripping out so this is a good sign. The prices are a little higher comparted to other bubbles places, but the freshly brewed tea makes it a higher quality of taste. I ordered the Taro Queen and enjoyed, and you can choose the amount of ice and sweetness. Loved sipping to find the taro paste but not alot of tea to drink. Located by the bus loop at Richmond Centre station - easy to find location. Store is very clean and bright - geared towards grab and go. Got the bubble volcano made with oat milk - I am fully aware there is no tea in this drink, and the cashier did note that. However the drink was very disappointing - as it was 25% ice, 65% FOAM and probably got like 10% worth of actual drinkable liquid. The Brown sugar taste was good , not overwhelming - however the amount of liquid for the price paid was seriously laughable. - Oat milk does come out of the carton pretty foamy after you shake it, however that doesn't mean you serve a cup of foam. I came here around 5 PM on a Wednesday. There was no line, so I was able to order and get my drink very quickly. The staff was friendly and helpful. This is my new favourite bubble tea place when looking for quality tea. Probably not the place if you are into fruit drinks/slushes. I ordered the oolong with mousse and taro balls, and the flavours worked together so well. The natural flavour of the tea is so fragrant and leaves a pleasant aftertaste. The staff measure out tea leaves for each order and each cup is brewed individually (similar to coffee shops making espressos) ! I also can't recommend the mousse enough. It is lightly salted and works so beautifully with the tea. I usually order 30% sugar at other bbt shops but this time tried their "perfect" (regular) sugar and it lived up to its name, was not too sweet. Taro balls were very QQ and the perfect size to have in a drink (fit through the bubble tea straw). The shop is aesthetic but is cramped and it can be difficult to tell who is lining up to order VS waiting for their drink. They have no menu on the wall, only on the counter in front of the cashier. There is also no area to sit down inside. They offer free 2hr parking if you fill out their form inside. Update: visited again and seems like they have increased the price of drinks since 6 months ago. Quality of the tea is consistent and good! Still no changes to the line up system or posting of menu elsewhere in the store other than the front counter. Chicha originated from my home country Taiwan. It's a boutique BBT shop that currently only has one location in all of Taiwan. I used to drive all the way to Burnaby to get my Chicha fix but hasn't gone in recent years due to distance. Today i got the classic bubble milk tea, light sugar and ice free. I love Chicha because of their rich tea taste and the fact that they use Taiwanese tea. Their classic bubble milk tea is much better than all of their competitors' version simply because of the tea taste. One star deducted because I found the bubbles to be a little on the soft side today. Also, i prefer their other drinks more. With that said, I'm glad that Richmond now has a Chicha and I don't need to trek all the way to Burnaby to get a good quality cup of bubble tea. read more

At the cashier counter, there are tea leaf samples that you can smell and once I smelled the osmanthus tea, I knew I had to get it. The tea leaves had a fruit-like scent which I thought was very unique. My friend and I both ordered an osmanthus milk tea with bubbles (I chose cream for mine, and she chose fresh milk). It does take a while for the tea to be ready so be prepared to wait 15-20 minutes. The size of the drink is also on the smaller side considering the price. However, I would still come back here if I'm ever in the area as the taste was unparalleled. The milk tea was so light and fresh, and the osmanthus flavour was able to really stand out. The pearls were also a perfect texture and size, and did not stick together. I think if you're a bubble tea enthusiast, you definitely have to come here at least once! read more

We ordered the original bubble tea. It was surprisingly refreshing because of the tea flavour. It's very concentrated and delicious. They also gave us a sample of their jasmine tea which was also very good. We got it 50% sweet and it was just sweet enough. The pearls aren't the best I've had but chewy enough. I got the high mountain oolong tea with milk and boba, and their ding dong oolong tea +milk + boba. Between the two I liked the oolong more. The high mountain oolong had an odd taste with the sweetener that they used. It's amazing how they take the time to brew each cup of tea and you can see it. Definitely a quality cup of boba, which slightly justifies their higher boba price :) Parking for us was a hassle - couldn't find it... although it seems like they do parking validation. There was no wait at all when I came on a weekday around noon. I tried their dong ding oolong tea with light cream, Formosa fruit tea, and honey green tea. My personal favorite is the dong ding oolong tea with light cream. They didn't have oat milk when I came but it was good with less cream. You get the strong oolong tea taste along with some milky creaminess to make it a milk tea without the milk overpowering the tea. Highly recommend! read more

We were driving back from Vancouver back to Seattle a couple Friday evenings ago and stopped by Richmond for boba. I was looking forward to ChiCha San Chen after trying it once in Toronto and liking it. I got the Dong Ding Milk Tea with 30% sugar and less ice (+ grass jelly). I thought it wasn't very sweet (so maybe 50% next time??) and that the milk tea was on the watery side. Sadly, I didn't end up finishing the drink and was pretty disappointed. Chicha San Chen has been on our list of places to visit after hearing that this boba chain got a Michelin Star equivalent for boba! We were pleasantly surprised to find that they had one in Richmond, so we stopped by. I think overall, the tea itself is very well brewed. The tea taste definitely stands out. I had to knock down a star for their inflexibility in terms of customization. Their sugar level goes from 70% to 30% without anything in between. The boba itself is meh, not very flavorful or warm. Drinks themselves are on the more watery and less creamy side. The drinks are also pricey for how much you get. Overall, glad to have tried it, but probably won't go back. read more

This location is by far my favorite ChiChaSanChen that I've been to. Compared to its California counterparts that usually has a 30 to 60 minute wait, the wait at this location was just 15 minutes. The price was also much cheaper given that USD to CAD exchange rate. The drinks are also consistent in the quality and taste as the other locations.
