This is one of the better boba spots I have tried in Richmond where they have some creative drinks such as the ones with panna cotta and mochi. I personally tried the cheese foam black tea with mochi and golden pearls which costed close to 10CAD. The cheese foam was slightly salty and pretty creamy, and the taste is much more pronounced when you dip the plain mochi into the drink. The mochi itself was slightly soft though a bit uneven in texture as some parts are chewy and some parts are already a little bit dry. I do like they nicely wrapped the mochi in a plastic bag to preserve the moisture, though I ended up trying it out immediately to get the maximum freshness. The tea itself is flavorful and not too sweet, which is what I intended because I opted for light sugar (30%). The golden pearls were pretty chewy and are the right preferred texture. While I liked the general quality of the drinks, like other reviews mentioned, the price of the drinks are a bit on the higher end but the quality did not really scale up compared to a good boba spot. read more

I agree, with other reviews; this place is way too pricey! Considering there are several boba spots in the area, and even some in the same plaza, this is not my first choice. The store itself is super cute; they have the three pastel seats and LED light signs. Overall, I feel like you were coming here for the aesthetic but not the drinks. I also came towards the end of the night, so they had run out of Boba. They also ran out of ingredients for some of the specialty drinks that we were interested in. Such an adorable little shop in the side of the building. Their interior is so cute and there's a hole in the wall where drinks are delivered out of, which is hilarious. The strawberry flavor wasn't super strong but the topping added a nice layer and texture. I was a big fan of the taro balls in the milk tea. There were a LOT of toppings in the large and the taste was very comforting for some reason. Sweet on their own in the way that carbs tend to be, and the texture was bouncy and chewy. I had a Fresh Fruit Four Seasons Spring Tea. I would prefer something like Mango or peach, but unfortunately, their selection is a bit limited when it comes to fruit teas. It was ok. Machi Machi has probably become my favorite go to boba spot in Richmond. One of my friends had been raving a particular drink that he had at this particular Jay Chou endorsed chain since his trip to Taiwan last year. That particular drink was the the Mochi Cheese Foam Black Tea. As soon as I landed in Vancouver, I dashed over to Machi Machi and it did not disappoint. The drink is composed of two separate portions with the warm mochi and the drink itself. I viewed the warm mochi as more of a precusor as I dipped it in the salted cheese foam. It was a rather unique combination that blurred the lines between savory and sweet. The residual kinako from the cheese foam, added another dimension of nuttiness to the drink itself and paired well with the saltiness of the cheese foam. Though the drink itself wasn't anything new that I haven't tried before, the addition and mochi and kinako made it quite unique. I also had the opportunity to try some of their fruit drinks including the Strawberry Latte Panna Cotta, Grapefruit slush and Grapefruit Cream Covered Mango Smoothie. Machi Machi is famous because of Jay Chou. Since I haven't been to one in the US, I decided to check it out in Richmond. The store is clean, and the color inside is earth tone, very simple and comfortable. There are 3 seats, more for decoration than for seating. I only saw one little girl sitting on it. I got the Black Milk Tea with Panna Cotta. I adjusted it to less sweet, but can't adjust the ice level. The Panna Cotta made the drink more creamy and dessert-like, but the milk tea tasted watery. I don't think it's worth almost $10. But again, most boba (bubble tea for you Canadians) cost more than $8 now. Located in a strip mall, there's a bunch of other restaurants and things to do for you before and after you grab boba. I've been to this location of Machi Machi now versus the Robson one and much rather prefer this location. The inside of the shop is much more spacious, clean, and I've noticed they tend to have more menu items available than the Robson location. I love how many different drinks they have and how unique they are (you typically don't get panna cotta in boba). Although I've tried some of their more creamy, milky flavors I prefer the fruiter ones from Machi Machi. Their drinks are so good and refreshing, and if you change their sweetness a bit, the perfect amount of sweetness. Staff here was very sweet. Was able to get in line during the soft opening and it only took 20 to 30 minutes to get in and out with COVID precautions, so props to the team for managing the lineup well and getting people's orders in the lineup. I had the Green Tea Milk w/ Creme Brûlée ($7.3) and the Fresh Fruit Four Seasons Spring Tea ($6.9) and was advised the fruit tea would take 5 mins extra. Both were presented really well with a take out tray and plastic bag, and the fruit tea came with a toothpick to eat the fruit with after. They also have a points system in place for you to collect points towards a free drink. I think the bottle drinks costing $9.20 was a bit much so I opted to try these two regular drinks instead. My personal favourite out of the two was the creme brûlée and i enjoyed it more than i expected! The brûlée and the tea don't mix or combine but it was fine nonetheless and satisfied both cravings. The tea was very flavourful, delicate and pronounced at lite sugar. Would definitely come back for this. Won't say much more other than I agree with previous reviews that say this place is overhyped, overpriced, and not worth a return visit. No more long line outside the door 4 months after opening but still a small crowd inside on a Saturday afternoon. They had already run out of crême brûlée (this was only ~12:30pm) so I had to go with my second choice of the strawberry panna cotta. I wasn't keen on getting the bottle since it's such a tiny volume, but alas, no alternative. The strawberry slush was nothing special, and I found the panna cotta a bit too rich after the first few sips. And the price? More than $10 after tax is...approaching highway robbery. Machi Machi Review If you're new, they'll tell you how to drink them! Fresh Strawberry Latte with Panna Cotta 9/10 It was great! The bottle is truly cute and aesthetic. You can really taste the sweet fresh strawberries. It's not gritty with the strawberry seeds and very smooth. The consistency is closer to a smoothie than a latte. I enjoyed the panna cotta - it was like a creamy pudding that wasn't too flavorful but mixed well with the drink! It reminded me of mochi that was less chewy and more smooth with a nice mellow taste. It is quite pricey but I would recommend it to try it once. I won't go out of my way to get it though. Only certain drinks come with the bottle. You can definitely use it afterwards! It's this clear squishy plastic with the machi machi logo. It is smaller than I thought looking at the photos. It's ~14cm without the lid and ~7.5 cm by ~3.5cm for reference! Black Tea with Creme Brulee with Gold Pearls 8.5/10 - It was great and sweet The drink was great. The tea was thoroughly mixed with the milk. The creme brulee topping was great but I won't consider it like actual creme brulee but closer to creme brulee flavoured foam. The cashier recommended less sweet but my friend enjoyed it at full sweetness. The gold pearls were good - felt like they were less goopy compared to regular the black pearls and a little more first. Adding in toppings can be quite expensive since their pearls were 70 cents compared to 50 cents. Mochi Cream Foam Black Tea with Gold Pearls 8.5/10 - Just tried the mochi and foam! The mochi was very flavorless on its own but dipped in the foam, it tasted good. All the flavour came from the foam. The foam wasn't too watery and could stay on the mochi without being too messy. It wasn't salty but mildly sweet like a cream foam. Time We went around 12:05 on a wednesday and waited ~45 minutes. It was nice to be in the shade and there's over cover. The wait went by fast and it might be a little chilly because its completely in the shade While they don't have it on their print out menu - they do have a matcha series available too! There's so much bubble tea in that specific plaza that I won't recommend going if you're just looking for bubble tea. Located at Union Square Plaza, dubbed the bubble tea plaza, they are soft opening from 2-6PM This location will be the first to have their new Japan Shizuoka Matcha Series! The Downtown location will have it soon but not sure when. I got the mochi red bean creme brulee matcha smoothie and the black milk tea with panna cotta. The matcha smoothie has a lot going on but everything works! The matcha has a great earthy flavour, not overly bitter while the red bean and creme brulee toppings added an additional sweetness. Same with their gold pearls, it has a distinctive flavor and a more firm texture than regular boba. I have gone to many boba shops, and this easily is my most favorite. Now that the hype has finally died down a little and lines are less chaotic, Machi Machi is one of favourite bubble tea places up to date. It definitely lays higher in the price scale but the taste and quality lives up to the cost of the drink. Staff are also very kind and accommodating. So far, I've tried the Strawberry Latte w/ Panna Cotta (super yummy!!), Fizzy Passionfruit Orange Honey Jasmine GT (good but sweet) and Black MT w/ creme brûlée (also very good!). Toppings are all extra. The key about these drinks is really the amazing taste and not so much size or value. I wouldn't get Machi Machi every time I'm craving bubble tea because my wallet would break but every once in a while, it's definitely a special treat. Gladly was able to try their drinks as they open their branch here in Richmond exactly on National bbt day. Went there in the afternoon, their was a line but so far it was about half an hour and was able to get my drinks. Theirs a friendly lady assisting those on queue letting them know about the menu assisting on orders so it will be more easy as soon as you reach the counter, once drink is given they as well give a little tip on how to drink it in order to savour the flavour well which to me is helpful for first timers. As of the moment a limit of maximum order of 4 is allowed to give chance to everyone to have a taste of their drinks. Since I went in afternoon some flavours were not available thus I ordered black tea with creme brulee, mochi foam black tea, black tea latte (bottle) and strawberry latte with panna cotta(bottle). For the taste first the mochi dipped in foam was such a good taste, the black tea was little bitter but once you mix it with the cream will give a good balance. The black tea creme brulee was so creamy I added taro mini balls which are chewy and yummy. Maybe out of four I did not like much the strawberry i guesd because I drunk it the next day which I did not like the texture as the mixture did separate, I guess its better to drink right away upon ordering it, other than that I did like the other three not so sweet yet tasty. A lot of boba spots in this plaza. This is the one I would not recommend. Order 4 creme brulee milk teas and had different adjustments on sugar on two of them. All 4 tasted the same and tasted super plain and watered down. My gf ordered an orange honey jasmine green tea and asked for boba but they couldn't add boba for some odd reason. Her drink was also not good. Overall drinks were well below mids. 1/10 on flavor. Service could also be a lot better and the "ice is fixed" could be taken out the script. A little confusing, should say "we don't allow adjustments on ice" instead. Fixed ice is also really dumb. Go to a different boba spot or you'll regret your decision. I went around noon on Saturday and waited maybe 10 minutes. Or ya know, wait for the hype to cool off a bit haha. They're famous because they're owned by the Taiwanese popstar Jay Chou. I picked up the milk tea panna cotta which comes in a plastic bottle and the mochi matcha red bean creme brulee. Got the milk tea with zero sugar and the matcha with less sugar. Both were delicious. The panna cotta was soft and the milk tea was creamy and thick. The creme brulee was my favourite -- almost like crema in a coffee. The mocho was super chewy and fresh. Both drinks are full on meals though haha. They are definitely pricey drinks but seeing all the components and how lux the drinks are, they kinda make sense.
