I like Shiny Tea...but my visit left me disappointed. It's not the drinks, but it is their App on the phones. Did you know with the app, it is mandatory to use your credit card on the app in order to collect points? They won't allow other form of payment like cash to collect points. Chattime another bubble tea joint DOES allow collecting points using other forms of payment.

    Tea soft serve!

I've gone a few times and really enjoyed their tea. It has never been overly sweet, even at 100% sweetness. Over time, the tea doesn't taste watered down as the ice in it melts. For their tea, 6/10. I usually go for their soft serve ice cream. They have two ice cream flavors, a tie guan yin and another flavor that is switched out. The second flavor has been pineapple, brown sugar, and more (probably). Their soft serve solution was smooth and their tie guan yin has actual tea flavor. It actually tastes better than some "tea places" drinks. I would always come back for it. I literally cross the border to get the soft serve.

We hope a bubble tea can brighten up our day. We cannot take any more sad news. Anyway, some people call it pearl milk tea, and some call it boba or bbt. We were craving for boba, so we finally decided to try Shiny Tea 嚮茶. We should order their popular drink, Panda Milk Tea, but somehow we chose their Original Milk Tea. Maybe we order the wrong drink. It was disappointing. The tea was watered down, and the milk was not fragrant. Shiny Tea 嚮茶 is a bubble tea franchise chain which established from Taiwan. I was hoping to give a 4 stars, but I can only seem to give 2 stars due to inconvenience. I was ordering Pu-Erh Milk Tea with less ice and half sweet, but one staff she got wrong order. She gave my drink with 80% sweetness which I never mentioned; afterwards I had to go back if staff can give less sweet one. Staff helped me make a new one, however everyone looked clueless while it was staff's mistake. I left the store feeling frustrated due to language barrier. None of the staff members seemed to be fluent in English.

I've been here twice and ordered two different drinks: Regular milk tea (what they're famous(????) for with white boba with 75% sugar and no ice and Oolong Milk tea with black boba no ice. The first drink is okay, but I'm too Americanized that I could use more sugar in my drink. Also the white boba isn't white boba, it is actually sago... like what you would put in your coconut milk+ taro drink.. Anyways, it was disappointing. It's different than what I expected and it's not the same as what the Taiwanese call "white boba." I guess they use it because it's cheaper/more accessible in Canada. ugh.. so not impressed. The drink was alright, at least it tastes like tea (lol). My second drink was alright, I actually thought it's better than the first drink.. haha. The second time I was there, their boba wasn't ready until 20 minutes or so. They also didn't have change for me since they'll have no change if they give me my change.. It was around noon but they had no change.. =.=... I then went to the food court area to get lunch and got some change... They were so inflexible and it was really inconvenient for me. Their location is actually not that convenient too since it's at the other side of the mall.. Overall, I probably won't come here just to get their drinks, but I will grab a drink it's on the way to where I'm going.. lol

I got the HanLin Creation milk tea with mixed white and black pearls and was not impressed. The big pearls were hard and the milk tea wasn't good. Hard pearls alone will make me not come back to this boba drink place.

    Panda Milk Tea with Pearls

Located inside Richmond Centre near Tim Hortons. I like how this spot is super convenient and the service is really fast. Got the Panda Milk Tea and their pearls were nice and chewy. I also loved how bold their milk tea was! The store itself is also super cute and filled with pandas! Makes a great lounge spot after those long shopping sprees for sure.

I've been pleasantly surprised during my last few visits. The flavour of the drinks and pearls have improved significantly :) and I like how hearty they are with the amount of pearls they give you. Note: I like my kumquat with lemon bubble tea with less ice and half sweet :) Haven't tried any other flavour since I've discovered their kumquat with lemon..... But I think I'll stick with what I like :P (for the most part) Note: Remember to check in on yelp!

Literally HALF of the cup was huge ice cubes.

Ordered a roasted tieguanyin macchiato 1/2 sweet...it tasted more like 1/4 sweet. I didn't mind that since I am trying to cut down my sugar intake anyway. Tea itself was refreshing. Three things bothered me...first off it's the unsweetened tasteless hard pearls. Then it's the foam on top of the tea...it was literally just unsweetened whipped cream without the swirl. It had no taste other than the taste of 33% fat content of the whipped cream. I was expecting more of an aromatic tasty milk foam (like some other good bbt places have) rather than such a heavy dense tasteless whipped cream. In the end the drink was too creamy after I mixed it up with the tea. The other big turn off was there was WAY too much ice in the drink. I had only a few sips and it was end of it (see photo). Kind of painful for a small cup that cost me almost $5. I'm a regular bubble tea drinker. Shiny Tea hasn't impressed me.

I think the overwhelming amount of choices on menu was the first thing that got to me. I couldn't really understand all the choices and it was a bit frazzling for me. The line was long so it was understood that the orders would take longer. But the guy behind the counter seemed so unsure as he was taking our orders. Made the whole experience less pleasant. Got the honey oolong soft serve. It was pretty good. Very tea flavored like. But I do prefer tea flavored ice cream over tea flavored soft serve. Their taro topping with it was actually really good and that was quite impressive. I will have to give their milk teas a try next time to figure out if their quality of tea is as good as people say it is.

Saved $0.50 with my Yelp check-in (free pearls ;))

I think with all the hype, it skewed my impression on this place. I finally found my way to this place, from inside Aberdeen on the 2nd floor, in the hallway next to the medical clinic, walk straight through to the hallway to the end towards the Canada Line station... you'll find Shiny Tea. It's a Friday at 4:45pm. When I got there, there was a line of people waiting for their drinks already, about 6-7 people. I ordered their Oolong Milk Tea with pearls, 1/2 sweet and less ice. I showed the cashier person my Yelp Check-in Offer of a free topping. She was initially confused but luckily "the boss" clarified and I got 50 cents off - yay for Yelp check-in offers! After a very long 20 minutes, I finally got my drink. Note: they yell out the number in mandarin? But I didn't understand, so after yelling out the number 3 times she eventually said it in english, which I finally understood my BBT was ready. The Oolong Milk Tea had a nice and slightly different tea flavour compared to other bubble tea places. However, making it half sweet really took away the sweetness and it tasted like watered down milk tea. Usually regular sweet is really sweet at other places, so maybe their regular sweet is fine? Regardless, the milk tea was okay, nothing to rave about I think. The pearls were good and chewy. Overall, the price of $4 for a medium size, the long wait, and overhype of "the best bbt", this experience was okay. Plus, they forgot to give me a stamp card - Buy 10 drinks and get 1 free. Maybe next time it'll be a better experience for me. Other than that, the bubble tea is good and it's a convenient bbt stop for the Canada Line passengers, if you have time to wait in line for your bubble during peak times. Cash Only!

Opened just a year ago, I first heard about this place from my Taiwanese friends who raved about how authentic the bubble teas were. They say that it brings them back to their childhood. I've only been to Taiwan a few times so I was intrigued and had to try for myself. Its location in Aberdeen Square was difficult to find at first. It's one level down from the food court and facing the Skytrain station. They have many tea choices (but the popular ones run out pretty quickly). I've already tried a few different teas with milk and they've all been very flavourful (regular, Oolong, Tieguanyin, Pu-er, etc). I can actually taste the tea, unlike a lot of other bubble tea places. I enjoy the white boba/pearls (sweet potato balls), which are basically the regular black pearls but mini versions. The grass jelly is also good too (firm type). You can tailor your drink to the sweetness & coldness that you prefer (100% sweet, 80% sweet, 50%, 0%, half ice, less ice, no ice). I find 80% sweet and less ice is perfect for me. They have a large menu and I plan to slowly try their other varieties. But I always end up just getting milk tea. One of these days!

Mini size for personal. It was more than enough for me to eat on my own. $3
    Nancy T.

Not a huge fan of their milk teas but I am a huge fan of their soft serve roasted milk tea ice cream. Usually add it with pearls and it tastes great. The mini size is usually more than enough for me but regular is perfect to share with more than 2 other people. Favorite place for milk tea ice cream

The original white pearl tea. Tasteless and disappointing.

I personally tried the cheese foam black tea with mochi and golden pearls which costed close to 10CAD. The cheese foam was slightly salty and pretty creamy, and the taste is much more pronounced when you dip the plain mochi into the drink. The mochi itself was slightly soft though a bit uneven in texture as some parts are chewy and some parts are already a little bit dry. I do like they nicely wrapped the mochi in a plastic bag to preserve the moisture, though I ended up trying it out immediately to get the maximum freshness. The tea itself is flavorful and not too sweet, which is what I intended because I opted for light sugar (30%). The golden pearls were pretty chewy and are the right preferred texture. While I liked the general quality of the drinks, like other reviews mentioned, the price of the drinks are a bit on the higher end but the quality did not really scale up compared to a good boba spot.

My friend had a pot of Leisure Fresh Fruit tea and a scone. We'd already had lunch a bit earlier and while my friend had room for a scone, I had zero room in my stomach for any food so I just had a pot of Longan Red Date tea. It was a cold day so a pot of hot tea really hit the spot. I thought it a bit pricy at first, but when the tea came, I saw that the teabags were Fortnum & Mason teabags. That is a very a prestigious company from all the way over in England. When I realized we were drinking Fortnum & Mason tea, all of a sudden $10.25 didn't seem so extravagant any more. My friend said her scone seemed like more of a biscuit than a scone. It came with butter and jam. I think she wished there had been some clotted cream to go with it. I can't say too much about the food as I only had one pot of tea but I was impressed that it was Fortnum & Mason tea, and I very much enjoyed the flavor of the Longan & Red Dates in my tea.
