There are other bubble tea businesses within the locale that may appease your needs, but not this particular Gong Cha whom apologized for the inconvenience of the inability to lower the price on the product ordered. As I waited patiently, I took photos of this business' environment. The staff stated the cash register is not working and currently unable to accept either credit or debit cards, but cash only payments. Ergo, I was unable to obtain a sales receipt nor a drink label printed. I'm very familiar with Gong Cha as a boba spot but it didn't live up to the hype for me. However, I opted for one of the new seasonal drinks (watermelon green tea) which means it's a bit harder to compare to your typical boba. The single employee at this spot was very friendly and efficient. I found the boba to have a wonderful texture, a bouncy chew. However, it lacked flavor altogether and I was simply chewing for fun. The tea was extremely sweet, but I opt for 25% usually, just wanted to try the default state with my first visit. In the future, with a more regular drink and reduced sugar, my experience may improve, but ultimately it was the boba as a topping that made my experience feel average. Additionally, the drink was on the pricier side compared to what I'm used to in Seattle and even then I think our drinks can be pricey. It's nice to have a Gong Cha location that is a good nearby alternative to the cramped, crowded one in Koreatown! I asked about the white pearls' texture because I wasn't sure about whether to get white or regular pearls, and the woman behind the counter gave me a sample of the white pearls. (She then said something to her coworker along the lines of "she was going to ask about the whole menu," which sounded like it was about me--not very nice, but maybe she had to justify it?) I decided against the white pearls as they weren't chewy and were more like nata jelly and got passionfruit green tea with 30% sugar, less ice, and bubbles. It was quite good, but I don't think it was well mixed. Even though Gong Cha is known for its milk foam, I really don't recommend it. Try it if you're curious (as I was), but my adventurous palate failed me when my tongue tasted the mélange of salty milk foam and freshly brewed earl grey tea. Even mixing it did little to dispel my regret; the earl grey with fresh milk (or even the earl grey with 3Js) was far superior. If you don't make the same mistake, Gong Cha is otherwise excellent. (Actually, some people do enjoy milk foam, so go for it. You never know! I think it makes sense, though, that it hasn't really caught on at other boba places). The tea and boba are freshly made every 4 hours, and the sugar control options (no sugar, 30%, 50% and 70%) are automatic pluses for me. I always go for 30% for that hint of sweetness, and the quality of their teas shine. Gong Cha also has free wifi, a loyalty program through the Stampt app (buy 9 drinks, get the 10th free), an easily accessible location and a decent number of seats. There's one table for 4 to work comfortably, with outlets nearby. Otherwise, there are several smaller circular tables for 2. I've never had trouble getting a seat to squeeze in some work during gaps in my schedule. All in all, Gong Cha ranks among my top study/work spots that is not the library. read more
