I walked in and walked straight up to the counter to order but no one, not ONE of the workers walking around came to help me or acknowledge me. The woman that was at the counter when I first walked in came around the counter and went to talk to someone at a table as I was walking up. I thought she was going to service a customer then come back but no she was just talking with a friend and ignoring me. So after just watching all the workers walking around and not getting acknowledged, I finally just walked out. I wont be back. read more

The 1st time we visited this restaurant, it was super good! The 2nd time, no. The chicken strips were very hard and tough (chicken jerkey?) The service is great. People are smiling and are helpful. But the food has diminished over the years. The regular fried chicken is still super crispy, but the meat is flavorless. I know they have the zing packets, but I shouldn't have to rely on that for flavor. The mashed potatoes seemed watery and the gravy, which used to be one of my favorite things, is thick flour water with absolutely zero taste. What a let down. First time at this chain and kind of liked it. Pretty bland fried chicken, but it worked for a pretty big hunger. I ordered the two piece meal and received a TON of chicken tenders. Don't know how it was mistaken, but I was glad for the tenders. It also came with gravy. Gravy? Well, I had to try it and kind of liked it. It added the salty/peppery taste the chicken needed. Next time I'll try a different condiment than gravy, though. It also came with a fluffy role. Not a biscuit, more of a sweet croissant in a round shape. Staff is very sweet, but the size of the chicken legs we got turned out to be more the size of very small buffalo wings. I hadn't been there in a while, and I was shocked at the taste of the food as well. It smelled weird and tasted moldy. The tea tasted like the urn hadn't been washed in a decade. Attempted to dine here on 7-9-2019 at around 1:13 PM. I waited close to 30 minutes for a JR. Catfish platter but got tired of waiting for it so I politely asked for a refund. Turns out the staff was to busy texting on their phone to submit my order through the POS system. "Manager" had to be interrupted from her break and she immediately had an attitude because the incompetent millennials working the cash register didn't know how to generate a refund. The Manger hands me my cash and walks off without giving me an apology; she might as well said, "f**k you and hope to never see you again" as that is what I took from her behavior. Golden Chick has some really, really good food. Whenever I need my Fried Okra fix, we head there. All of the sides we've had are good. Kids love the chicken strips... the whole family can eat for under $20. Score. My only drawback to this location is the television. I'm not an overprotective dad, really. But, I have decided that I can't eat in the dining room any longer though. Just for the simple reason that they have the News on the TV every time I've been there... and eating with my children while the news is blaring (sometimes REALLY loud) about death and destruction is not my idea of a good time. We have asked them to turn it off and/or down on a number of occasions, and they always do.. but I get tired of having to ask. I've never walked in there when the news WASN'T on... It wasn't busy when we went there at 3pm, so I'm not sure how things went so wrong, but we were shorted one of the sides we paid for, and the 3 piece meal that was supposed to come with 1 breast, 1 thigh, and 1 drumstick, swapped out the breast for a wing. Who wants a wing? Nobody, that's who. There is NO meat on a wing! You swapped out a breast for a wing, Golden Chick? Shame on you. Add to this that the food was not hot, and tasted like it had been sitting under the lamps for a very long time. You're driving me back to KFC, Golden Chick! You OWE me a breast and some coleslaw. Golden Chick in Kyle has been our go to for carry out family dinners since they opened. Always the best. Until Father's Day 2021. Per our usual order we ordered 2 of the 10 piece leg and thigh order with all the sides. The thighs looked more like chicken backs, with just about as much meat. The legs were lean and dry. The potatoes had to be doctored and the the fries were not their usual crispy fries. The fried okra was closed in the box and not crispy at all. The cole slaw was ok. The fresh corn on the cob was great. Oh wait, I made that myself! This is a huge departure from our Mother's Day pick up and I don't know what has happened! Horrible management team! I have had issues the last three times I have been there and I have given them the benefit of the doubt but after this last experience I will not be returning. After a long days of work my son insisted we go to his favorite place and against my better judgment I sat in 5 o'clock traffic for almost 30mins to spend $50 for the food to be absolutely horrible! The gravy was straight water. When I called the manager he wanted me to waste more time driving back up there. I explained I didn't want my money back just for my order to be remade at a later time for the inconvenience and he stated to place the food in the fridge and bring it back another day! What ?!? They constantly put out terrible food at my inconvenience. Need a better manager who stays on his team to produce quality food. I have found hair in my food previously and had drinks left out another time which they argued with me just after leaving the drive thru if I had purchased drinks. Had outstanding customer service here, on my last visit. I ordered a nine piece fried catfish meal, with some sides & extra rolls. The cashier was very helpful in explaining the side options, and how to get the most bang for my buck. I watched the crew work quickly, and efficiently, to fulfill every order, inside, and in drive-thru, with accuracy, and fresh products. So what, that you have to wait a little extra longer than the speed demons at the national burger chain, who package up your order that was made 10min before you even pulled up!! Do you really wanna spend your hard earned money, on chicken that was sitting around for 20min under a heat lamp, or do you want a fresh, quality product? The food was hot, and fresh when I received it, and was still too hot to eat some of it, 7 min later, when I got it home!! I suggest that he employ some secret shoppers to give him a unbiased view of the customer experience. After forgoing this place for almost a year, I decided to give it another shot. I figured that perhaps maybe things had changed. I was definitely wrong. I was the only car in the drive through lane. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich. I figured, "how hard could this be?" The young kid at the drive through took my order and was very professional. I did not see any horse playing. After he handed my my credit card, I waited and waited and waited. How long does it take for you to put a chicken salad sandwich in a bag and hand it to me, especially if I am the ONLY car in the drive though? I finally get my order. The fries are hot and fresh. That is a plus. The sandwich was flavorful. My only complaint was the little bits of chicken tendons. I am glad to see they gave me a TON of ice. What part of "easy ice" do you not understand? If I wanted ice, I would have ordered ice. I do not need to finish my soda in 3 sips of my straw. The food is good. The drive through service needs dire improvement. Loved the fried chicken!!! Super crispy and the meat was juicy and tender. Also loved the fries with a side of the zing sauce I think it's called. Didn't like the Mac and cheese though at all. It had a strange flavor. The yeast rolls were good! The man taking our order at the drive thru was very patient as it was our first time there and needed time to decide what we wanted. So my husband and I eat here all the time we Like their tenders over KFC any day but Saturday night they were the worst. It was like we got the last Saturday nights tenders.
