Let me start by saying the staff was wonderful, attentive and very polite and a breeze to talk to. The food, is a whole other story. 0 seasonings on the chicken. The chicken was barely fried, not even golden brown. None of it seemed made in store. I got Mac and cheese and it tasted and looked like it came straight out of a box. The gravy was also flavorless and not very good. This really isn't the place if you want decent fried chicken. Expect 0 flavor (unless you like that), and don't expect any satisfaction. Not sure what changed but lastb3 orders over last year have been old cold chicken gizzards and livers, so stale the breading is rock hard and will cut your gums. My partner and I wanted some fried chicken and wanted to try this local spot. Bush is still a chain but it's new to us because neither of us have had it. After reading some hilarious reviews, we found ourselves in this huge 3 lane drive thru. Knowing the menu really prepares you to order because it comes your turn pretty quickly. We both got our own value meal that comes with a roll, side, and drink. You can really pick any side. CORN NUGGETS!!! The chicken is Piping hot and crispy. Also tender and juicy. Loved it.. The sides were good! Would've preferred a different carb instead of the plain dinner roll but that's okay, the chicken is the star of this show.. the sweet tea is good, I definitely had a spike in my sugar levels from it. As regular customers to Bush's Chicken on Brodie Lane we were met with rude customer service by the manager himself . We were having issues with our Pipeline and therefore not able to use the restroom so we walked over to bushes and we were told that we could not do that that it was for paying customers only. We are regulars there everyday being employees of Goodwill on Brodie and we have never gave any trouble so therefore I felt this was rude customer service to regulars I don't see what the issue was by just going in there to use the bathroom . Smells Like Chicken Today, Tomorrow, and the Next Day On the eve of another winter storm where everyone heads to the super market I go to Bush's Chicken to stock up on food for the next few days. There was already a large crowd inside mostly eating lunch but I was doing take out. The line went fast and fully staffed was doing an excellent job serving the needs of the customers by cooking and putting orders quickly together. They looked like a well oiled machine. I ordered 8 Piece Mix (4 Rolls), Single Okra, Family Mashed Potatoes, and a gallon of Bush's Famous Iced Tea (Sweet). Upon arriving at home there was no way of just sticking this in the refrigerator where ate one breast, the Okra, tasted the mashed potatoes (the potatoes in one container and the white gravy in another). The chicken was fantastic where even white meat was soft and juicy. The okra was just tasty and the mashed potatoes too. And enjoyed the sweet tea to top it off. It may be cold & icy tomorrow but thanks to the microwave the chicken will be warm and tasty for our meal for the day. read more

For immediate comparison I'm not a fan of Chicken Express or Raising Canes. I guess I'm a bit nostalgic of the old Golden Chick in Oak Hill. Tender meal with fried okra, french fries, and a roll. Fried bird bits were perfectly crispy and flavorful. Totally appreciated all the extras on the table like their signature seasoning. Honey for me is a total must for fried chicken. Decent hot sauce too! I tried all kinds of combos even dipping the okra into some ranch topped with hot sauce. We went today with a coupon and had 2-4 pc tenders with mashed potatoes gravy a roll and drink for about $15. So many places will give you these small cups that clearly aren't enough but here you get a good sized container with more than enough for your meal. Quality and value at Bush's have really gone downhill, while prices have increased drastically in just one year. I took a photo of the menu one year ago (April 2022) vs. today, and the price of a 6-piece chicken tender meal has increased 13%, from $9.99 to $11.29, and the tenders are now substantially smaller. Sides have increased 30% in cost, from $2.29 to $2.99, and I'm certain they are also smaller in size, and now the coleslaw contains so much mayo, it's inedible. Gravy is also more expensive for customers and comes in a substantially smaller container. I don't drink sodas or tea, but the cost of iced tea has also increased by 30% in one year. Getting food here used to be an affordable treat, but it simply isn't worth it anymore. (My chicken tender meal with one extra side cost me almost $18.) I can spend $18 on many tastier, healthier, and better bang for the buck than this. A meal for a family from here must really be pricey now, and that's really unfortunate. So long, Bush's. No more guilty pleasure chicken from you for me. read more

I usually have a great experience with the food at Bush's but not this time. I went thru the drive-thru do to the dining room being closed and ordered my usual #1, 4-piece strips, mashed potatoes and tea. Normally the strips are decent sized and if not the staff throws in an extra strip or 2 to compensate for the small sizes. Not this time. As u can see in the pic, not 1 but 2 strips fit easily in the palm of my hand and were barely bigger than a jalepeno. And wouldn't u know it, there were a total of 4 strips. I have been coming to this restaurant since I moved to Austin in 2004. Today I had a terrible experience with the manager, Ryan. I've never had a problem ordering food on my bicycle through the drive-through. Today I was denied service and asked to come inside. I did not see a safe bike rack to secure my bike to so I brought my bike inside. I was told that my bike leaning against a table was not safe and they were not serving inside either. I ordered the lunch special. The tenders were good, but not enough to fill me up. The fries were good and hot. They served me old okra. I told the cashier David my issue. He asked me to wait 3 minutes and he would give me some more. The cook took the old okra and dumped it into the grease to recook from the shelf. I was amazed. Just got home with the food I bought. I paid for chicken with family size mashed potatoes and corn nuggets. They gave me NO mashed potatoes, just THREE containers of gravy, and a side of okra. No corn nuggets either. You can see by my receipt in the photo what I paid for vs what I got. So I guess my dinner options are to eat chicken with no sides and then drink gravy for three days. Never going here again. Bumped my review from 1 star to 3 stars because the Bush's Facebook manager refunded my meal after hearing about this. I don't usually like chicken tenders at places , but let me tell you bush's was really really good , the bread was average flavorless but , the chicken was very good , if u add some bush spice it gives flavor but unlike me I just added some salt and dipped in gravy and let me tell you it was REALLY GOOD . Eat quickly because in my opinion when it gets cold it isn't so good. So I ate when it was hot , but that's just me maybe you like it cold , the coleslaw was also delicious and it's not often I find good coleslaw so I was happy about that , also I got a brownie, and it was SO GOOD , fudgey and chocolatey for a person who doesn't like chocolate much, it was really yummy. I have been coming to this location for 12 years, and I never had anyone deny me freshly cooked food. I requested a gentleman runner that was taking my order, to PLEASE drop my order fresh, not give what's been under the heat lamp...for I was delivering this meal to a homeless man across town and wanted it to be somewhat hot or warm by the time he is even able to get it. He kindly stated he has to ask his manager first, they ONLY provide what's already cooked. The manager comes out and says the same, even after asking for a little hospitality being I was delivering this 30 mins away as a special delivery, he said no...I take what's already cooked. I told him I've been coming here for 12 years, and never had this problem. He said it's a new rule since a year ago. He walked away like he was done with the conversation. I was very disappointed and insulted by the treatment of service. The Audacity to still want my money but not give the customer what they paid for. I NEVER had problems at this location until today...& knowing a mutual friend associated with the Bush family and franchise...this will be brought to their attention. read more

READ UNTIL END I first fell in love with Bush's in Summer 2017. I knew about their delicious tea, but never purchased any food items until then. Their crispy chicken tenders and their golden corn nuggets are a favorite of mine (any place that offers corn nuggets on their menu is a must-try for me). Delicious. I would go on my lunch-break (I work on Slaughter Ln) a few times and was never really disappointed. The drive-thru staff was always clean and friendly, and the service was speedy. HOWEVER, today I go for a quick bite to eat and, of course, my corn nuggets. The gentleman who took my order at the drive-thru was friendly, but seemed to be in a rush (mind you this was pre-rain and there were only two cars other than me). He looked very unclean and upon receiving my drink (I was waiting for my food, so he delivered my drink--a Sprite--first), I noticed the taste was off, as if the spigots hadn't been cleaned in awhile. The flavoring was mute, but I didn't let my drink deter me from enjoying my food. So, I asked for an unsweetened tea, instead, and to my surprise, it tasted worse than the Sprite. It contained that icky layer of film on top as if the tea wasn't fresh, and it had an unusual smoky taste to it. Now, onto the food. I ordered a 2 pc. Tender Meal, sub Macaroni, and an individual side of corn nuggets. Let's start with the chicken tenders... I received two very slim tenders which consisted of mostly coating. The second tender was half the size of the first slim one and was all coating (no chicken). The taste and texture was off. The macaroni had an off-taste, as if it were microwaved in a plastic bag and immediately served after, with the elbow pasta a little hard for my taste. The corn nuggets seemed as if they were deep-fried in old oil... this was the biggest disappointment. The roll was tough. Overall, the only thing that was edible was the gravy and sad honey mustard that I was excited to dip my chicken tenders in. Yes, this was ONE horrible experience (we all have "off-days"), but it was enough for me not to want to go back. I was completely taken aback by the quality of food. read more

He was more concerned whether I had a receipt & proceeded to lecture me on how they did not cook to order. Never once did he apologize for the fact we got bad food. Of course that did not please me!
