Came in about a week ago for an acrylic fill. From first look at the salon I thought that it would be worth it. At first look the nails looked great until I started noticing little things about them. My actual mail was never filed down so dirt would get trapped between the two nails. The top coat didn't go across the nail. One of my pointer finger nails kept pulling up after after a week. Finally they chipped even though they were gel. I got a nail repair which I didn't have to pay for but once again they are chipping not even a day later and the one nail is still lifting so I had to super glue it down. Though at the nail repair who I later found out was the owner looked at me with such disinterest and disgust at me. I was doing assignments all day for school and came in my pjs for the hour I was going to be out of my house. She seems more interested in keeping up and image and not making sure her nail techs are well stocked with quality products. I'll be going else where for my nails at this point. I rather spend my money in a salon that isn't set up to be a show room and not charge and arm and a leg for poor quality Update my pointer nail is half way off and I'm now in pain. Definitely will be letting people know to not go here. Especially after reading other reviews that this is a normal occurrence. read more

My nail tech was on her cellphone texting and talking almost my entire manicure. It felt really unprofessional and you could tell she was giving minimal effort. I got a gel manicure on Tuesday and by just Sunday almost all my nails were lifting and peeling. I have never had a gel manicure come off so quick and chip so quickly. I will not be returning. I cannot even fathom how upset and disappointed I am with this place. To begin, my friend and I went to get our nails done for graduation. We finally picked out our colors and we went to go sit down. The woman who did my nails was named Dani. I have gotten my nails done multiple times and this has NEVER happened to me. When pushing back my cuticles, Dani was scraping my nail SO hard and deep that the first layer of my nail started to peel off. I was clenching and even made sounds because it hurt so badly. She went so deep past my cuticle that she CUT MY FINGER AND I STARTED BLEEDING. Dani then proceeded to pretend like it didn't happen nor was it a big deal. I had to stop her and say "my finger is bleeding, please stop". She then tried to defend herself and say "oh your skin is just dry! Is this your first time getting your nails done?" I told her that I have had my nails done maybe 20 times in my life, and they have never been painful. She tried to convince me to still get my nails done but i did not want to risk an infection so i denied her multiple times. She turned to her coworker and said "do i still charge her?" and then she walked away WITHOUT apologizing to me. Im sure she hid in the back until I left. I got this done an hour ago and my finger is still in pain. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. The nail tech started off pretty rude when I was explaining what I wanted--I scheduled this appointment months ago, shouldn't you know? It seemed like he was rushing so much, even more do when his next appointment came. If one hour isnt enough time for no chip pedicure and gel dip mani with tips then schedule more time. I bought a groupon for Alix to do a Brazilian wax. Let me begin by saying that my past experience with my first Brazilian wax went horrifically wrong. It ended being an hour and forty-five minutes, the wax broke off in half, the woman doing my Brazilian telling me it was my fault for jumping and that's why the wax broke in half. Oh and that I was very hairy and even after she shaved me, she was astounded to say, "You're still hairy. Even after that." So you can imagine how I felt going into another waxing place with this emotional baggage attached to me. However, I felt much more at ease with Alix. She was calming, she talked to me about and and movies and she was fast. Unlike my first waxer, she knew what she was doing and it was swift and not as painful. Great job on the manicure, but awful service! I decided to go to Gloss after getting a gift card for the place. I scheduled an appointment for a quick French manicure. I arrived early and was taken back for my appointment right away, which I was happy about. However, it was immediately clear that rather than having a relaxing experience, I was going to have a stressful one. The nail technician reminded me of Squidward - seemed completely unhappy, rude, zero interest in making me feel comfortable. In fact, he never said anything to me besides raising his voice at me to relax. Because yelling is going to help me relax... While my nails did look great and the polish lasted almost a whole week, I have zero interest in going back. I would give Gloss 2 1/2 stars if I could. Although I have never had an awful experience, I have never had a fantastic one either. The prices are lower than say a Neroli or Azana type place but more than a nail salon in a strip mall. As others have commented, the staff is not very friendly, making an appointment can be a challenge and the whole process of a getting your nails done becomes rushed and forced rather then relaxing. I have had shallac mani's, regular mani's and pedi's here. The quality is OK, for the price. The staff complains if you don't tip them in cash, which I found rude. I understand its always preferred but when I don't have time to stop at the ATM I prefer not to be scolded like a child. Overall, if I need an "express" mani or pedi over my lunch hour I would go to Gloss because it's near my office. When I want a more spa like, relaxing experience I will look elsewhere. read more

Obsessed with this nail salon. They have a multitude of color options. The spa pedicure is amazing, my feet are always so soft afterwards. They are very clean and the decor is modern. They are patient when it comes to choosing a nail color. They will test all the colors you are interested in on each of your nails so it can help you decide. I was sitting at home on my day off, bored as hell, thinking WOWZA, I need to get out of the house. My roommate suggested we DO DAH NAILZ, I couldn't argue with such an alluring argument so ten minutes later we found ourselves walking towards GLOSS. We were greeted by awkward guy, he asked if we had an appointment and we replied, "no." AG said it wasn't a problem and sat us immediately. I sat down, proceeded to watch the nail technician DESTROY my cuticles (God damn Napoleon masquerading around as a GLOSS employee). By the end, I had BEAUTIFUL BLOODY BRONZE NAILS. The technicians get way too personal and don't pick up on queues when you obviously are trying to enjoy the experience and relax. How this nail spa salon has received 4 stars is beyond me! Let me start by saying that I always do my own nails, so I am very particular about manicures and have a hard time trusting anyone else with my nails. I invest in good products, and as a result, people always ask me where I get my nails done. However, I've been really busy these past two weeks, so this Friday I decided to let someone else, for once, take care of my nails. I did some research online and Gloss Nail Spa in Milwaukee had the most reviews. It was also rated number three nail salon in Milwaukee in 2011. The prices seemed high ($45 for French manicure) compared to other salons but I presumed they reflected the quality. So, I made the call... A receptionist answered my call, and when she heard that I wanted to make an appointment, she told me to call them back in 10 minutes because their system was down. This should've been a major red flag because, in my opinion, she should've asked for MY number to call ME back because she wants MY money (as I can easily look for another nail salon) once the system is up and running. Ten minutes later, I called her back to schedule my appointment for 4 PM this Friday. I arrived 15 minutes earlier. I wasn't acknowledged when I walked in. Five minutes later, the receptionist asked me if she "penciled me in." Five more minutes later, I was offered a seat at the bar stand. The receptionist gave me a bowl with soapy warm water and asked me to soak my nails for a while. I sat there for 15 minutes looking around, waiting for someone to come up to me and actually start working on my nails. My wrists were getting tired. My patience was running out. I felt like they would do me a great favor if they decided to start working on my nails. Finally, a girl who was working on someone's nails to the left of me was done. So, she was told to start working on my nails. There was no "hello," no "my name is...," no "I am sorry you had to wait so long," etc. When she started to work on my nails, I began to realize what a mistake I had made by coming to this salon. I don't consider myself a hard client to please. I don't mind the wait much. I don't expect for service providers to smile all the time or make a short talk with me. However, a poorly done job for a fair amount of money is something I will not accept under any circumstances. While filing my nails, the nail technician kept looking around, which resulted in unevenly filed nails. Apparently, she was waiting for another client to come in. So, she was trying to get the job done as quickly as possible. I had to point out to her that there was still old nail polish left on my nails to make sure that she gets it off. The filing and the polishing were completed under 2 minutes! On top of being uneven, the top of my nails were not really polished (I could still see that some of my nails remained chipped). The nightmare continued, when the technician started to paint my nails. I wanted to have a French manicure done. The white rim was too thick: some nails had 4 or 5 coats of the white polish on them because she tried to correct the mistakes she made while rushing through her job. Half of my nails had small air bubbles as well. Furthermore, and this I find completely unacceptable, after she painted my nails there was still residue under my finger nails left from the filing of my nails! The nail technician did not wash off the residue after filing my nails. After I told her that I was not happy with the end result, she said that she could try and correct my nails. By that point, I didn't want her near my nails. She did, however, insist that I would have to make the payment because the service was completed. When I went up to the receptionist, I told her I wasn't happy with the service and asked for the technician's name. The receptionist went to get a manager. The manager was very apologetic and offered to redo my nails herself. When she saw them, she agreed that the job was subpar. Kac is the name of the technician that I was given. I would never let this nail technician come close to my nails again, that is if I ever go back to this salon. The manager told the receptionist not to charge me for the disservice the salon provided. They also gave me a $25 gift certificate assuring me that the manager herself would work on my nails next time I come into their salon. I do appreciate the manager taking responsibility for her staff and not charging me $45 for a badly done manicure. However, I seriously doubt there will be a next time even with the certificate in my pocket. read more

I should disclose the fact that I live in NY and here we are accustomed to $25 mani/pedis, so $40 automatically put me on edge. However, my experience certainly didn't ease my apprehension. While visiting MKE, I made an appointment for a friend and I to get mani/pedis simultaneously on a Tuesday afternoon. I was told reservations are strongly recommended. Unfortunately, reservations didn't seem to guarantee promptness. My friend was attended to immediately as I sat with my feet in an increasingly tepid foot bath waiting for someone - anyone - to pretty my toes. 25 minutes after my friend started, i finally saw my technician. In what I can only assume was an attempt to catch up to my friend, the technician also started on my mani mid way through the pedi. The combination of rushing and the sharpest nail file EVER cut up my fingertips so badly one would think I'd carelessly used a mandolin slicer. One cut is so deep that a week later it still has not healed properly despite the application of antiseptic by the technician upon hearing my complaints (OUCH), and my own efforts with antibiotic ointments. Sigh. Others have mentioned the cleanliness. Yes, this place is clean (it is NEW) but why that warrants more stars is beyond me. Cleanliness should be a cost of entry. Not a bonus. Overall, my technician was nice. I just wish she (or someone else) had been a little more prompt, and that they were equipped with better and less painful tools. $40 still seems really steep but I suppose it is on par with other salons in MKE. read more

I bought the groupon for gloss after exhausting my search for a reasonably priced *waxing service* in Milwaukee. My go-to in Minneapolis charges about half the price as they do here, and still does a great job. I saw this groupon and gave it a shot. Let me first say, DO NOT TRUST MAPQUEST FOR DIRECTIONS! The place they brought me too, over by Joey Buenas on Water, is simply an abandoned window. I was already 5 minutes late at that point, had paid for parking and walked four blocks. I booked it back and finally made it. This place is located over more towards Brocach on Water, where it's barely considered Water Street anymore. It is in the main level of a new building. Very very cute interior. There are bamboo accents and nice decorations. Every spa chair was filled and everyone was working at a very good pace. I thought it was an especially nice touch that they have a bar here. (no, no booze) but a metal-looking bar with three high chairs, that were occupied by two guys getting their nailbeds repaired. I thought it was nice that they were able to welcome dudes and make them feel less silly. Good touch. I am going to base the rest of my review on Alix, the aesthetician who took care of me. While I was late, she still said she'd fit me in, and it worked out because she had an appointment go way over just before me. She was apologetic and got right to business once we got into our secret lab. I have a latex allergy that I mentioned to her upon booking, and she went out to purchase a box of non-latex gloves which was awesome and accomodating. She was very quick and thorough, chatty without being annoying. I am very pleased with the results of my wax, and will definitely be returning. read more

Good, but not great. I had made an appointment earlier in the week and although I ended up getting there about 20 minutes early, they started me a few minutes later than my original appointment. Not a huge deal, especially since it was definitely busy that day (at least one bridal party). The nail tech was fine but a little awkward and clearly not having a great day (mumbling under her breath etc). She also kept coughing and sneezing which made me a little uneasy, though everything else appeared clean. I picked a color that was pretty light and would definitely have looked better with an extra coat or just more time/attention to how she was applying the polish. It started chipping just a couple of days later. $40 for mani/pedi is fine, but I would expect a better experience and result. The space is very cool: high ceilings, nice decor, good setup. Definitely a good spot to bring a group (bridal, bachelorette, bday, whatever) because the setup of the chairs and manicure stations is conducive to being able to talk/see one another. Parking on street was plentiful and free on a Friday afternoon. You can put the tip on your credit card, which is always a huge plus in my book! read more

After going on Yelp to look for a good pedicure place I choose Gloss for the location and some good reviews. I called the place to see of they had anything open at this point and was told no and the front desk lady had me make an appointment for 12:45pm, mind you it was 11:45 am. I decided to walk there since it's pretty close to our new home and I was greeted at the front desk and quickly asked if I had an appointment, even though there were only 2 people getting their nails done. I responded yes gave my name and was then asked to go to the side of the wall and and that was all. Wasn't asked to pick a color or sit in one of the chairs there. Thankfully I was then approached by one of the other workers there that sighed when she saw me standing there like a fool and politely showed me where the colors where and that someone would get to me shortly. I was then escorted to my pedicure chair by the the front desk lady and proceeded to start the pedicure. The lady took 15 min!! 15 min to remove nail polish, buff, remove cuticle massage my legs and paint my nails!! I don't know about here but we sure don't pay $30 for a quick 15 min pedicure in Texas and if it's this quick we pay way less!! I felt as though I should have said something but as I mention, I'm not sure if this is a common thing here in Milwaukee. I was so excited to visit Gloss during a recent Milwaukee trip! There have never been that many Milwaukee nail salons that I was aware of. The ambiance was beautiful - truly a place to relax while you receive a mani / pedi. We had an appt so we were brought right in. The pedicure was ok - my tech didn't spend much time massaging my feet or legs. That was a bit disappointing. The no-chip manicure was the biggest disappointment. It chipped within a week! For $65 dollars, I would expect a much better value! read more

I went to Gloss today and am HIGHLY disappointed in my experience. The facilities are not clean and the staff is unprofessional. My $50 acrylic service was rushed and I still have the stuff peeling off my fingers. My technician (Kenny) was incredibly rude to me when I asked if I could switch colors. He told me that I was wasting his time! Can you believe that? NEVER going back. This feels like a factory and not like a spa at all. I walked into Gloss a few weeks ago for the first time without an appointment, hoping to get a pedicure. The schedule was totally booked for the next few hours, but the staff were friendly and offered to make me a reservation at a later time, which I accepted. The salon was VERY clean, staff were very curteous, and I liked the overall decor of the salon, very modern. While I waited, I walked up the hill nearby to Starbucks, grabbed a drink, and when I came back the staff were ready to take me. The woman who did my pedicure was fantastic, very kind, not too chatty, but made me feel very comfortable. I forgot to pick a color before going to my chair, and asked her to get a nice coral for me. She must have read my mind because she picked the perfect color, exactly what I wanted. Overall the service was great, my pedi looked perfect, and the pricing was very reasonable ($35 w/o tip for the pedi). I have been here countless times over the last 4 years and have had great services. Every mani/pedi is great. The ability to schedule large groups is really nice. I have taken two different bridal parties here and everyone enjoyed it. They will set up a little table for you if you want to bring in snacks. The interior of this nail salon is like no other I've been to. Light, modern airy and no strong chemical smell. Their tools are clean, sanitary and current. I've been happy with my mani/pedi's I've had here, however, some nail techs better than others. I got my eyebrows down here once and she didn't hold down my skin while ripping the wax off. This resulted in some skin being pulled off on my right upper eye lid. She didn't seem concerned about it but the three+ plus days of redness scared me off from going there for any more waxing. read more
