when i called to book, i specifically asked to be booked with someone who can do nail art. i booked a pedicure and a dip powder manicure. i was booked with thik. i wouldnt say she was the friendliest nail tech ive had. she rushed through my pedicure's massage; it kind of felt like my foot was being assaulted. the "massage" wasnt giving me a spa experience but more of a vigorous exercise for her. the pedicure experience was better than the manicure experience unfortunately. i asked for nail art with designs and she explained she didn't do nail art. throughout this interaction she would yell about how drunk she gets in her free time. riveting stuff. i decided on a simple design with a coffin shape. her execution is pictured. the nails were incredibly thick and when i expressed my concerns she insulted my previous nail tech and told me my nails were weak. a man from next door came over to say goodbye to her. when he left i asked who he was. she replied that he was "just some f*g". after my first experience i was willing to give the business the benefit of doubt. i needed a fill and their pictures looked good. i booked with shey. she did a great job on my nails but made me pay for thiks mistakes. literally $$$$. wouldnt come here again and its not a safe space for the lgbtq. read more

Had a very nice no chip manicure here a little while back. I am **horrible** keeping my nails in good shape. I used to get acrylic/gel nails back in the day but now i have stubby little claws. Once in a while though, I feel like being girly. This place took me as a walk in one afternoon. They had lots of colors to choose from & good covid protocols in place (masking, plastic barriers) My polish surprisingly lasted super long with very little chipping (3 weeks or so). My primary nail salon didn't have appointments that fit my schedule on short notice, so I was excited to be able to get one at Gloss and book it online. Every staff member I encountered while I was there was very friendly, and the salon itself was very clean and welcoming. I went for a dip manicure and had a wide selection of colors to chose from. The decreased rating is due to the length of time my nails lasted following my appointment. Usually a dip manicure will last 3 weeks, and I have even pushed it to 4 weeks a handful of times. Unfortunately you could see cracks within a couple of days and the tips were chipped on multiple fingers by day 6. Additionally, the woman who did my nails didn't take all of my prior nail polish off from the cuticle area (picture 2). I was able to get this off right away when I got home so it wasn't a huge deal, but it's still not something I should have to do myself when paying $60. Probably my favorite nail salon in MKE for its combination of quality work, location, and value. I chose to come here to get my first manicure since COVID shut everything down. I get them as a treat now and then, not on a regular schedule. There were changes of course. Masks are required for customers as well as staff and they ask you to wait outside if you arrive early for your appointment. But the clean, spacious salon and friendly employees are the same. Prices are quite reasonable for the area. They don't take card tips, only cash and Venmo. Luckily I had some cash on me. I should probably figure out how Venmo works. I also appreciated being able to book an appointment on a Sunday. I booked on Saturday afternoon and there were a handful of Sunday slots left. I'm happy to see them doing business and they're clearly taking safety precautions seriously. My nails look pretty nice too. read more

I haven't been going to Gloss lately because I was able to find another salon that is significantly cheaper and is able to do dip that never chips. That being said, I'm at Gloss tonight because my car is in the shop and it is extremely close to my apartment. I came about 15 minutes early because that's the only time I could get dropped off and I stood at the front desk waiting for someone to say something to me for 5 minutes before just sitting down. They seem pretty busy, but I feel like it's not too hard to say "someone will be right with you." Someone eventually came to the desk and sat there for awhile before I finally asked who my appointment would be with. She was apologetic she didn't notice me and had me pick out my color. Yes, I do drive out of the Bay View bubble to get my nails done. Why? Gloss has flexible hours (open Sundays during the summer) and takes appointments. The nail salon in Bay View will take appointments but you end up still waiting 30 minutes. Gloss is prompt and respects your time. Gloss is also very clean and modern. There are no concerns about getting any nail funk from their utensils. The techs are very good and they are consistent. Many nail places have a revolving door of people; however, Gloss has a staff that is stable. Pricing is comparable to Bay View salons with only $5 higher for a mani/pedi. However, they offer a discount punch card. I would rather pay extra for the flexibility. The only downside is the construction around the area. Because of it, parking can be very limited on the street. However, you can park in the Fresh Thyme parking lot which is a short walk plus you get in a little shopping after the pampering. read more

Got a builder gel mani for 65, which is not outrageous, but was then charged 20 dollars on top to remove the dip polish I had on. The price on the website is listed as 10+ for nail enhancement soak off, so while technically true, double the listed cost feels like a hefty "plus". Unfortunately don't know that it's worth a nearly 33% up charge on top of the price of the service given most places will remove your polish for free if you're getting them repainted. I got a mani pedi at gloss and the experience was good overall. The mani pedi was standard and she did a decent job, however, my polish started to chip a few days later. It didn't even last a full week. Additionally, the require masks which is fine, but because the music is so loud and the nail tech was speaking into her mask I could barely hear any of her instructions. As someone who doesn't get her nails done often, I found this to be stressful instead of relaxing. I also expected more of a massage during the spa pedi, but it was very short and was lighter pressure. I love Gloss! It's packed during the day, but I was seated in a pedicure chair after about 15 minutes of waiting (walked in, no reservation around noon on a Friday). So I now know to make a reservation. I got a traditional mani/pedi ($45). Kinda pricey BUT there was attention to pampering and ensuring everything was done as well as possible. I don't often get manis or pedis, so it's needless to say my nails weren't in the greatest shape. All of my comments were taken into consideration (water temperature, being ticklish, toe sensitivity, etc). I left about 2 hours after walking in. I'm not one who typically talks when getting my nails but the conversation flowed naturally and I felt right at home. My mani/pedi looks great and has lasted so long it's like it's gel! I came here for pedicures with my friend and it was the quickest worst quality pedicure I've ever had (there was also no one else in the salon so it's not like they were busy and trying to rush us out.) From sitting down in the massage chairs with our colors picked out to being finished and moving to the drying area, it was less than 30 minutes for $30. My biggest reason for paying for a pedicure is to fix my dry skin areas - they scrubbed a little bit, but not as much as I'm used to. When I felt my heels and the outside of my big toe and they were very noticeable dry and even flakey. By this point, my nails were already done so it's not like I could really ask her to soak and scrub my feet again but I am NOT happy. The massage portion was so gentle I hardly felt it and was super quick. My nails also could have used buffing and they didn't bother to do that. Finally they left nail polish on my skin on multiple toes. Overall it just was really lazy and sloppy work. Finally, they have a card reader for payment but they only accept cash tips. The only reason I didn't give them 1 star is because they weren't mean, it wasn't dirty or unhygienic, and they had decent color selections. That being said, I will not be going back. read more

After about ten minutes I was taken to the back to soak my feet for my pedicure. I was extremely happy that the wait was minimal. The chairs were extremely plush and in good condition. The young lady that took care of my services was extremely nice and was passionate in her work. I never felt as if she was rushing to get to the next client. This was my first experience at Gloss, and I'm unfortunately dissatisfied. I got the Plexi-gel full set and one of my nails broke off in 4 days. Lavonna was able to squeeze me in for a quick nail fix (if I were to go back, I'd see her - she was a sweetheart and did a good job) but the very next day, another one of my nails completely broke in half. Seeings how it's been less than a week since I got these done and TWO have broken in half, I don't think I'll be back. $75 is too expensive to for that to happen in that short of a time. read more

Scheduled an appointment here because they had an available appointment on a specific day and time that I needed. They had rescheduled my appointment THREE times before I ended up coming in the following day. Once at the salon, I was told I would need to wait for my nail tech to come back because she didn't think I would show up (!?). I then selected a white dip color (pictured below) and ended up getting the weird clear glittery color on my nails. I mentioned that I didn't pick this color as she was working on my nails but dismissed my comment and continued. Boys, put on the earmuffs for the last part of this review. Not that you really care about reading my review of a nail salon anyway, but just do it. It's not pretty. I'm visiting this Milwaukee this weekend to spend time with a girlfriend and my friend the lovely Rachel F, also known as your Yelp MKE Community Manager, and after being on the road for a week and a half I desperately needed a pedicure and a fill. We made an appointment at Gloss and wandered in to a friendly staff and a gorgeous, clean space. It's so cute in there! It looks like it'd be really expensive, but it's not. We picked our colors (I went with a bright purple this time) and waited a few minutes on the couch. My pedicure was awesome, and I loved the nail stylist! She was super funny and we had a great conversation. Usually when I get my nails done I like to daze out and kind of enjoy those few moments of silence, but I loved talking to her. The chairs are really nice and have a lot of massage options so you can keep it under your control. (How awkward is it when you're getting your nails done and your shoulders and chest are shaking all over the place?) My fill was good too, pretty standard, but that's where things took a very interesting turn. My lovely friend wandered over to me and dared me to get a Brazilian wax. What? A dare? How bad is it going to hurt? I had a million questions, but alas, I agreed. I'm going to save the details, but that shit hurt worse than any pain I've ever had before. Worse that kidney stones, even. So many people were cheering me on and telling me things like "it's going to be fine!" "It's not going to hurt THAT bad." Well, I'm gonna say a big "f*** that" in response to all those big fat liars. Ok so the girl that did the waxing was great. It didn't hurt and she was extremely quick. I liked the fact that she was very friendly and even asked me if I was happy with what she did. I give her 5 stars! On the other hand, I just spent a nice amount of money on my nails and I felt like she didn't care how it came out. The first thing she asked me was if I was from Milwaukee. I told her I was from Houston and I was traveling. The minute I revealed to her, I probably wasn't coming back her attitude towards me completely changed. She rushed it and for those of us girls who get their nails done often it was obvious she did not care how it came out. She didn't even file them straight and they were full of bubbles. I am excited to write this review because I have found a new nail spa! Gloss is new open over a year now. Easy access, parking on street but I had no trouble parking and no meters. Nice! First let me say that it is very clean and it is clear that equipment is sterilized, very nice to see. The people are very friendly and professional. It's a nice, comfortable atmosphere. I had a spa citrus mani/pedi with shellac gel polish. The service was really the best I have had in Milwaukee. I am very pleased with the service performed. It was so relaxing and my nails really look great. I will definitely be returning and recommending this spa to my friends and family. I encourage anyone looking or not looking for a new nail spa to check it out and give it a try. Pricing is extremely affordable I give it $ because there are choices for a classic and you can go up from there. I am going to try a classic next visit just to compare but what I have now I am extremely happy with. I'm not one to keep up my fingernails but I really plan to now.
