A little updated review based on 8/28/24 visit. Great service out front in the classic diner area. Got a HBFFG (hot roast beef fries with gravy) just as I always would when dining here. The sign out front says "Roast Beef, so you know that is the main attraction. Unfortunately, today someone forgot to salt the meat, fries, and gravy. I never had it so bland tasting before in my life, and I've been coming here for nearly 45 years. (Old man confessions). This was a rare occasion where I needed to salt the entire plate and a bunch more on top of the meat. It helped greatly, but the experience left me a little disappointed. Especially because I don't come to Scranton that often and when I do, I don't always get to go to more than one restaurant in a day. I'll be back sometime in the future, but maybe I'll lower my hot beef expectations.

Great old school Diner! Eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly. The gravy for the fires is the best!!!!

The breakfast was really good, so good that I can not tell of it was because I was sooo hungry...or it was just good...lol. I loved the price $30.00 full breakfast for 2 people, can't beat that.

I stumbled upon the Glider Diner on a cold, gloomy NEPA winter day when I was visiting Scranton and starving. I drove by and immediately swerved into the parking lot because 1) I love vintage diners and 2) I love a THEME. Walking inside was like going through a total time warp. It looks like it hasn't changed...well, ever. Immediately I was sold. The menu was pretty simple, and I ordered a mushroom cheeseburger and gravy/cheese fries to warm myself up from the cold. I swear on my life, that this was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Are the buns homemade? Because they taste HOMEMADE. The burger was cooked to absolute perfection. The waitresses were so kind and kept my drinks full, and were an absolute delight to talk to. Now that I'm in AZ, this is definitely one of the places I will surely miss about NEPA.

Supposed to be "over-easy", but these were hard as a rock.

I haven't been to the Glider Diner in over 30 years and I guess I didn't miss a thing. The waitress seated us and took our order fairly quickly but it took about 49 minutes to receive our breakfast. It was not especially crowded either. Hubby ordered eggs Benedict and he reported that they were very good. They came with an order of home fries. The diner does not serve Hash browns as an alternative so I had the home fries as well with my breakfast. I ordered my eggs over easy, which were cooked solid and somewhat cold. The toast was heavy and wet, and while buttered, the wetness seemed more like steamed wetness. The bacon was cooked perfectly but the home fries were a but mushy. Pancakes came with my breakfast. They were huge but really doughy and cake like. Very heavy. The waitresses were very nice and there were plenty of them bustling around, it seems like the kitchen was off on this day. We barely had time to eat to get to our appt since the food took so long to be prepared.

Hot Roast Beef platter with mashed

True Scranton staple! You can sit out front in the old diner car or there's the spacious dining room in the back. THE FOOD -so many items are amazing here, but the true Glider classic that you must get is the hot roast beef platter. Served with gravy and your choice of potato (if you don't get mashed you're doing it wrong). Ask any Scrantonian and they'll tell you the roast beef is what's up! I'm also a gravy fiend so I get an extra side of gravy just to make sure I've got plenty in every bite. -breakfast is really good here too. Don't forget about their homemade baked goods including huge cinnamon rolls. -another item you need to try are the Glider fries...amazing fries with cheese and gravy. THE BEST way to eat fries ...ketchup who?! Gross. THE SERVICE -generally good service but sometimes can be hit or miss if they're busy. -it's seat yourself THE ATMOSPHERE -more classic, old timey diner feel in the booths or at the stools out front -the dining room is cute too, they decorate it nicely for the holidays and there's cool old pictures on the walls Every time I'm in town I make sure to stop in to the Glider for some amazing food!!

Quick service at lunch time. Always large portions. The turkey burgers are good but maybe a little too spicy for the average person's taste. The waitress was very friendly and helpful.

It's also worth noting that expecting a good pescatarian experience at a barbecue joint is more of a me problem. In terms of the space, it had a laid back feel. Not too fancy. Just a bar, with an outdoor patio out back. Lot's of wood surfaces. A good amount of space. It felt comfortable. In terms of the staff, they were generally very attentive. Not fine dining level, but about what you would expect at a neighborhood bar. They did the job and conversed with various customers. In terms of food, everything was fine. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos with a side salad. The side salad was fine. Fresh ingredients. Well presented. The tacos were clearly presented with care, but it felt like they need a little more flavor. Maybe more slaw or some hot sauce on the side. They felt a little meh, even if the presentation was nice. All told, this is a perfectly reasonable place to grab dinner and a beer. It's comfortable. It's open late.

While there were definitely highlights, I found myself a bit disappointed as well. First off, the ribs were a standout in terms of taste; they were tender and flavorful, literally falling off the bone. However, they arrived in a pizza box, sitting on foil, and were ice cold. I believe they would have retained more warmth if they had been wrapped in foil or placed in a proper takeout dish. Given that it was only a half rack, it should have fit comfortably. On the brighter side, the mashed potatoes and gravy were as delightful as always. Every time I order them, they're consistently delicious. The turkey and roast beef platters were also warm and tasty, which I appreciated. However, I couldn't shake the feeling of being misled by the portion sizes. It seemed like they were trying to create an illusion of abundance by stuffing four slices of bread under the meat. This wasn't just the case with the turkey platter; the same trick was used for the roast beef platter. When I ordered, I explicitly declined the bread option, thinking I was getting a straightforward platter, not an open-faced sandwich. Instead of a generous serving, I felt like I received less meat than I expected, masked by the hidden bread. So, while I enjoyed the flavors, I can't ignore the feeling of being a bit deceived. I'm left uncertain about my next order. Perhaps I'll reach out to them directly to discuss my experience. I understand that times are tough, and the costs of ingredients, especially meat, can be challenging, but I can't help but feel a bit fooled and/or misled by all the slices of bread under both the Turkey & Roast Beef meat (4/5 slices under each pile of meat, for each platter! Please see the evidence in the pictures I uploaded) I cannot comment on the ambience because I had my food delivered to me!

We found ourselves here on a busy weeknight and what a great dinner we had. Service was very friendly. It was a little on the slow side at first due to the volume but it cleared out soon after we arrived, so it improved. It was a little noisy but tables were not too close together, there was plenty of space. They have a nice wine list. Portions were generous and we boxed up some leftovers to go. We wanted to try other restaurants while visiting the area, otherwise we would have come back to sample more of their menu. They specialize in farm to table and healthy food. Our plans before were running long but luckily their reservation policies were flexible enough that I had no problem moving my time, even on such a busy day. The restaurant was POPPING when we arrived around 4:30. We were seated promptly. The only downside to our experience was that the table was SUPER shaky and wobbly. We asked our waitress for a shim or piece of paper to steady the table but she informed us it was the table head itself, not the legs, so nothing could be done. I was not thrilled about this but assumed that these were tables they hauled out of storage to accommodate the holiday demand, so I can understand. Our server was very warm and friendly despite the chaos. Prices are on the high side but the quality is good and the portions are large. I went for the lobster cobb which was a special and it was LOADED with lobster meat. They really heaped it on. A little light on the avocado, but overall it was really wonderful. My mother went for a seafood scallop risotto which I also tried. It was creamy and flavorful. Our food came out in a reasonable timeframe, and our server was good about getting our check. One thing I really liked was that they put which dishes on the menu are over 500 calories, and most were under. A lovely, healthy dining choice with a nice ambiance. I'd return!
