I don't normally like to leave bad reviews, but I had high hopes for this place being that it's a diner, but left being disappointed. The service was good, but the food definitely needed work. They have a very ambitious menu with lots to offer. I decided upon the chicken piccata which was served over spaghetti and came with a side salad. To start with a side salad with nothing but plain old iceberg lettuce, and a few onions. The Greek dressing was nothing but red wine vinegar with maybe a touch of oregano in it and that's it very very bland, a few boxed croutons. Now for the piccata, the chicken was tender, but the piccata sauce was heavy and pasty almost like flour and water. It lacked any flavor whatsoever no lemon no white wine no garlic... nothing just very very bland. It may have to have a hint of chicken stock and that's it. Even the capers were rather bland no salty taste to them. The pasty sauce made the spaghetti pasty also I couldn't even finish it. I will say that the fresh bake rolls were excellent and served with real butter. The highlight of the meal was the iced tea and the dinner rolls. Ate Breakfast with couple family members food was okay not my problem here . We left the waitress a very nice cash tip . We then went to the front to pay the bill which was 70.00 and i was asked would i like to put a tip on my atm card , i replied no we left a cash tip . Today i go online to look at my atm purchases and notice they went on their own and added 11.00 to my atm card after we told the sneaky cashier we already left a tip. Take that money and retire with it you just lost customers for life that have spent a ton of money at this diner . And i will remember to tell everybody i know what you pulled . Upon entering we were taken to our table quickly. The floors and tables were clean. Although it had a cleaning fluid smell. I have to say I don't expect French cuisine in a diner. A waiter arrived in moments. He left menus. Although the specials were on a board we were walked past too quickly to see it so we asked...at 5pm he still didn't know the daily specials?. I ordered the classic turkey w stuffing, gravy with mashed potatoes. Included was cranberry sauce, a vegetable, a salad, and a bun with butter. The waiter did not bring my vegetables or buttered bun or cranberry sauce. I told him I didn't get the veg. He denied that the meal came with a vegetable. He brought cauliflower. It was cold in the center and sitting in a pool of water. It had no dressing, no butter oil vinegar, nothing. I had to ask for something to put on it. He brought a dish with what looked like melted butter. He denied the bun and butter was included with the meal. Same with the cranberry sauce. The main dish was drowned in an unnatural neon yellow thick thick gravy. I think it was made with flour milk and Goya powdered chicken flavored bouillon. That same bright yellow. The 'roasted' turkey was 2-3 oz of sliced deli meat. The bread stuffing was tasteless. As was everything else. . The scoop of mashed potatoes was instant but that was expected. I asked for water and got tap water. It has a heavy taste of chlorine and metals. I couldn't eat the meal, I tried, and couldn't drink the water. I went home hungry and thirsty. I would have sent it back but I don't trust people who already had the audacity to serve slop, to serve me ethically. We were three at a table. The stuffed flounder was burned on top . The cabbage rolls were way overcooked. The waiter never came around to take empty soiled plates. We sat with the table full of garbage until we left. Too bad. I used to recommend it. This is our go-to diner for whenever we're craving breakfast foods and the much-needed hangover recovery. Pre-Food Experience: Viewmont diner is located right off the highway near Viewmont mall. It's easy to spot with sufficient parking. The outside looks welcoming and not at all sketchy. Upon entering this diner, you are immediately greeted by the staff. They are warm and welcoming. They seat you pretty quickly as well. We've gone on busy days and our longest wait was 20 minutes. On most days, however, we're seated almost immediately. Once seated, the food comes out FAST. You'll probably only wait about 15 minutes The staff checks on you consistently and they usually always get your order right. We've ordered many different items from this place and we have to say, the lunch foods are much better than the breakfast foods. While the omelets and other dishes are excellent, the lunch foods, specifically the chicken flatbread and the burgers, are just what you need. Additionally, the presentation of all the foods are also on point. On the flip side, the paninis aren't all that great. They come out very thin with a little bit of meat and not enough flavor. They aren't terrible but aren't amazing (for the panini lovers out there). Overall, this restaurant gets 4 stars for its excellent staff, tasty foods, and speedy service. Five stars can definitely be achieved if the other concerns mentioned get addressed...which we'll be looking forward to. read more

This is a fabulous diner. We lived in Scranton for years and came here often... It was our favorite. We haven't been back in four years and it's still just as fantastic. Listen this gyro platter is outstanding. Nothing at any diner or Greek restaurant in Pittsburgh, where I live now, can touch this place. The dressing is so perfectly sour and it soaks into the crispy meat. You can create a dozen different perfect bites. I mean look at the photo, it came out perfectly constructed within five minutes of ordering at 10:30 at night. My wife got the Greek salad with chicken, also fire and just like we remembered it. Leaning back in my booth very satisfied, I noticed the cake case and remembered the lemon berry mascarpone cake!! I'm not much for desserts but this is seriously good. What a gem! Stopped by while in town overnight. Hostess was very friendly. Waitress was also very helpful and accommodating. I eat vegan and there were many options for me to choose from with only slight changes. I ended up with an Impossible burger on a pretzel bun and fries. It was as good as I've had anywhere! My husband had the triple decker turkey club. He ate it all and then got dessert. My son got a burger and Caesar salad and also ate every bite. It's definitely not the old-school diner vibe like many of the other local diners that have been here for over a century. It's a bit more expensive than them too. It was really good. tons of chicken and bacon in my pita and mozzarella cheese. The coffee there is really rich in flavor. We even got one coffee to go! The diner is right off the highway so it's a real short stop from the highway. The stuffed burgers are really good too like the stuffed feta burger. We loved this place up until a year or so ago when the food quality started to go downhill. We decided to give it another shot this afternoon for lunch, but it was so bad. I'll start with my wife's food. She's very particular, so when she said the chicken in her gyro was rubbery I tried a piece fully expecting it to be fine. I was very surprised that it was in fact hard and chewy like rubber. When she told the waitress about it, my wife pulled a piece out of the sandwich to demonstrate and actually couldn't pull it apart. The waitress took it away and came back telling us she took off the chicken gyro and only charged her $4 for the fries that came with the gyro. Considering her lunch was ruined, it wasn't a very grand gesture. My chicken panini was all bread with the smallest piece of chicken, almost no sauce and unmelted cheese. It was the saddest sandwich you ever saw. I really wish I had taken a picture of it, but I didn't plan to leave a review until I got sick like 20 minutes later. Honestly I didn't think food could make you sick that fast, but apparently it can. I'm not particular, and can eat almost anything, but this just wasn't good, and the fact that it made me physically ill was the last straw for this place. It's almost 6 hours later and I'll spare the details but I'm still really sick. I feel awful, dehydrated and shaky weak, which isn't like me at all. We really liked this place, but in the last year it just went so far downhill, and after this last time, the third chance we gave it hoping the last couple were just flukes, we definitely won't be going back. Don't stop. They use very low grade food. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food. The hash browns were old and you can tell have been frozen and defrosted a few times. It's your average diner. The food was delicious, and this place is open 24-hrs. It's a good place to go when you're tired of Denny's as your go to drunk night food. They give large portions so there is no feeling cheated for the prices which are not horrible. They only serve breakfast in the middle of the night so be aware you can't get a burger at 4am. This was a well crafted gyro that I haven't had in a long time! I'm sad that I live far away from here that I won't be able to enjoy this beauty again in a long time! Locals, you are lucky this is here and should come for this gyro! Fries: The fries were really delicious as well! Medium thickness and a crispy/crunchy exterior; yes, the outside is somewhere in between crispy/crunchy. Chicken panini: Now, after I finished my wonderful gyro, I tried a bite of my brother's sandwich since he was already full. I really wish I had not and left with the taste of gyro. The panini was very plain in flavor and highly disappointing. With grilled peppers, it tasted only like a pepper sandwich. No taste from the cheese or chicken.... The bread was nice and toasted but if I came for bread, I would go to a bakery. 3-stars because despite a phenomenal gyro, I tasted a very disappointing sandwich and it makes me question the rest of the food on the menu.
