Another year, another trip to Scranton for National History Day, and another fabulous breakfast from E-Lane's diner. We were greeted warmly and offered a comfy booth. Menus, drink order taken and coffee appears like 2 minutes later. We ordered, Lion got a big breakfast plate with like everything and I got the Italian French Toast which is REALLY GOOD Y'ALL. My wife and I stopped at this diner for an early lunch while on a weekend trip. Quiet place which is friendly and handicap accessible. Food was absolutely delicious, hot, perfectly made and everything we could have hoped it would be. Wife had a tuna melt and potato pancakes while I had the mushroom soup and chicken cheesesteak. The mushroom soup was nothing short of amazing. Everything is made fresh, nothing is made from frozen. Service was fast, waitress was very knowledgable and the kitchen made everything exactly as requested. Charming neighborhood place! Breakfast all day, reasonable prices, excellent specials, and Theresa (our waitress) was warm, funny, and clearly experienced. Lunch counter! Big, clean bathrooms! The menu is pretty big and varied for a small place. Everything was HOT when we got it - 3 breakfasts and a burger. You can get a side of pickled beets! And they were incredible. Amazing! That's the word of the day and it can certainly be applied to the eggs Benedict that our lovely waitress Gene Marie recommended. E-Lanes's Diner is a tiny little slice of Americana in an out of the way neighborhood outside of Scranton and the staff couldn't be more welcoming -- in fact, with the way they treated us we felt like long lost relatives. Food was very good, our server was very good and funny but the owner Elaine forget it. I was joking around and said that she looked like Hillary Clinton and while everyone else laughed about it, she didn't laugh at all and told me flat out to get out and never come back. So that will be the first time and the last time I will ever go into that woman's business. If you can't joke around with your customers then you shouldn't be in business. Kicked us out of the restaurant for being Democrats... Better to go somewhere else anyways. Didn't even get our food.. did not give me option on whether or not to leave, kicked us out for being Democrats and saying how her comments about them were disrespectful. The tables were not socially distanced so the conversation was in my ear and very loud. It was hard not to hear them talking badly about Democrats and how "crazy" they are, whether or not they are Democrats or not, they were saying insulting things. I simply said "I'm a democrat" and she was displeased and exaggerated my reply in her response to this in order to make me look bad. She handled the situation very immaturely.... especially for an elder. Elaine did not give an option on whether or not I wanted to leave or "handle" myself so that I could stay. She just made us leave and said "I'll cancel your food" because I tried to say she couldn't kick us out of the restaurant for being Democrats, her reply was "I'm the owner, yes I can. I'll cancel your food." How should I handle myself from being discriminated against? I guess no one should here or they will kick you out. Mean ass owner, it was honestly disgusting. "E-lane" also likes to degrade and talk about how horrible Democrats are in her restaurant and as an owner of the restaurant that is EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. Regardless of your own views it was unprofessional, disgusting, and disrespectful. When I said something on how it was disrespectful she just kicked me out. Disgusting. She also did NOT AT ALL wear a mask when walking around and did not keep her social distance... I had to ask her to back away from me. She didn't seem to care about the safety of the customers of her restaurant. The tables were not blocked off or 6 feet apart AT ALL.... so they should be closed right now if they cannot follow guidelines of this. THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN IF THEY CANNOT FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES. It is UNSAFE! I have never been more disgusted with an experience at a restaurant. Save yourself the headache. Would give ZERO stars if possible!!!!! UPDATE: The owners reply is filled with lies. I had no option. I was kicked out. There was no other reason other than I said that it was disrespectful what she was saying about Democrats, so therefore I got kicked out for being a democrat and standing up for the discrimination pretty much. How she refers to her customers in her response, such as myself, is very insulting. This is exactly why I am leaving a review. She should not be a business owner with how unprofessionally she handled the situation and her response to this review. It's actually sad. Even the waitresses stared at her in disbelief. On our way home from Scranton, hubby wanted to stop for a bite . Hubby suggested Perkin's and I thought not. So I opened the Yelp Ap and this place popped up. E-Lane's is a small establishment, cute and clean. Service was great, fast and friendly. I ordered a bowl of one of their daily soups, Chicken Pot Pie!! It was great, creamy with bits of crust on the bottom. Hubby got a Hot Roast Beef Sandwich. It came with fries and applesauce. Tender beef and nice crispy fries with gravy! We found E-Lane's Diner last weekend, and stopped for breakfast. The food was excellent. Generous portions, served quickly. The service was exceptional. Overall, a great atmosphere. It was such a great experience,we decided to go back this weekend for lunch. The food was still excellent. However, the service during this visit was extremely poor. The waitress never came back to check on us. Never came back to refill the coffee. After finishing our meal, we waited for an extended period for the bill. It never showed up. I had to go to the counter and ask for the bill. Then had to wait for the bill to be calculated. I would recommend trying E-Lane's Diner. However, be prepared that your dining experience could greatly depend on the staff on shift at the time. read more
