Me and my Scranton squad come to this place pretty regularly after a night out. These guys accommodated a group of 8 pretty easily. We had st. Patrick's day festivities yesterday evening. The place is usually pretty busy on Sunday morning. Decent affordable diner food. Breakfasts are usually generous and pretty. Service can be slow for large groups. Today, I got the meatloaf w/ potato side and beets. The roasted meatloaf had that standard tender texture and ketchup glaze with a standard brown gravy. Pretty affordable price point and I probably won't eat much else today. Beets were a healthy sidekick for this meal. read more

Oh Glider Diner how I love you. Such an iconic homestyle diner in the area. Tables are first come first serve, seat yourself. The front area really has a classic diner feel with red booths and bar seating, while the larger back room has standard seating and it's super big. Their food is the absolute best, so comforting and always come out right. While I've admittedly never explored beyond a few items, when I go with others, they rave about their choices just as much. The roast beef platter with fries is a classic and a must have. It's so perfect. Over the years, the service has gone down a bit and it's much slower, seems as if they are a bit short staffed, so be prepared for a longer dinner, but it's worth the wait. read more

A little updated review based on 8/28/24 visit. Great service out front in the classic diner area. Got a HBFFG (hot roast beef fries with gravy) just as I always would when dining here. The sign out front says "Roast Beef, so you know that is the main attraction. Unfortunately, today someone forgot to salt the meat, fries, and gravy. I never had it so bland tasting before in my life, and I've been coming here for nearly 45 years. (Old man confessions). This was a rare occasion where I needed to salt the entire plate and a bunch more on top of the meat. It helped greatly, but the experience left me a little disappointed. Especially because I don't come to Scranton that often and when I do, I don't always get to go to more than one restaurant in a day. I got a BLT which was pretty good. Mozzarella sticks were kinda tasteless. Volcano fries were great. Hurt my tummy right away. That's not anything on them. I stumbled upon the Glider Diner on a cold, gloomy NEPA winter day when I was visiting Scranton and starving. I drove by and immediately swerved into the parking lot because 1) I love vintage diners and 2) I love a THEME. Walking inside was like going through a total time warp. It looks like it hasn't changed...well, ever. Immediately I was sold. The menu was pretty simple, and I ordered a mushroom cheeseburger and gravy/cheese fries to warm myself up from the cold. I swear on my life, that this was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Are the buns homemade? Because they taste HOMEMADE. The burger was cooked to absolute perfection. The waitresses were so kind and kept my drinks full, and were an absolute delight to talk to. Now that I'm in AZ, this is definitely one of the places I will surely miss about NEPA. read more

Friends recommended this place. Today was our second visit. A male employee filled our beverage order and a female handed us menus. 20 minutes elapsed and nobody took our order. We dropped some money to cover our drinks and walked out and no desire to return. Our advice, travel 20 minutes more and go to Binghams in Lenox. I haven't been to the Glider Diner in over 30 years and I guess I didn't miss a thing. The waitress seated us and took our order fairly quickly but it took about 49 minutes to receive our breakfast. It was not especially crowded either. Hubby ordered eggs Benedict and he reported that they were very good. They came with an order of home fries. The diner does not serve Hash browns as an alternative so I had the home fries as well with my breakfast. I ordered my eggs over easy, which were cooked solid and somewhat cold. The toast was heavy and wet, and while buttered, the wetness seemed more like steamed wetness. The bacon was cooked perfectly but the home fries were a but mushy. Pancakes came with my breakfast. They were huge but really doughy and cake like. Very heavy. The waitresses were very nice and there were plenty of them bustling around, it seems like the kitchen was off on this day. True Scranton staple! You can sit out front in the old diner car or there's the spacious dining room in the back. THE FOOD -so many items are amazing here, but the true Glider classic that you must get is the hot roast beef platter. Served with gravy and your choice of potato (if you don't get mashed you're doing it wrong). Ask any Scrantonian and they'll tell you the roast beef is what's up! I'm also a gravy fiend so I get an extra side of gravy just to make sure I've got plenty in every bite. -breakfast is really good here too. Don't forget about their homemade baked goods including huge cinnamon rolls. -another item you need to try are the Glider fries...amazing fries with cheese and gravy. THE BEST way to eat fries ...ketchup who?! Gross. We were looking for a simple old school diner and that's what we got. The star rating seemed low and that concerned us but after trying it the rating was ridiculously low. The place was terrific. This restaurant has an unusual set up. When you go inside, there are three seating areas and we were told we can sit anywhere we'd like. I noticed right away that there are two waitresses taking care of the three areas. The one waitress let us know we can sit wherever we want and the other came to our table to drop off the different menus. The décor is very simple and yet very clean. I enjoyed the black & white sketches that are framed and hung on the walls throughout the diner. It feels spacious and the other patrons are lively but not loud. It's pretty cold outside today and yet the diner is very warm and cozy. I ordered Eggs Benedict and asked to hold the hollandaise. Although I asked for the eggs not to be runny, it was still super runny. The Canadian bacon was perfect. My partner ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and she said it was so good. The coffee is watery for my taste but I like that they provide a disposable cup(styrofoam) and a dish cup option. Paper is less harmful to the environment. read more

First and last time ever entering this diner!!! One order of loaded fries and one order of glider fries, both came out with 4 pieces of American cheese thrown on the top not even melted! Both plates of fries were cold to the touch. To make it even worse, black hair stuck in the cheese!! The waitress acted as though it wasn't a big deal, replied with a nonchalant "I'm sorry", removed both plates and walked away!! I had to ask her to remove both plates of fries from our receipt! We have limited experience with this diner as we only ever get one thing... the Patty Melts! This diner isn't hard to find and is a little musty-looking from the outside, but the sign is big and there's plenty of parking. The diner itself is very old-school and small on the inside - good for quiet time or getting some business done during the daytime or on your lunch break. As stated earlier, we really only get the patty melt here and that's always been a hit with us. It's filling, tasty, and super cheap. The only thing that would make it better is if they added their own sauce to the melt. Fortunately for us, we add Sweet Baby Ray's Sweet & Spicy sauce (highly recommend!) which makes it taste 10x better. As for everything else, we wouldn't really know. Generally, this isn't the kind of place we'd dine in as it looks like a regular degular diner. Very bare bones. But if we had to recommend something, it'd be the patty melt! Great classic diner!! Most people go here for the Glider's famous Hot Roast Beef or Hot Turkey Sandwiches. But everything is actually really good at the Glider. The service is friendly and unpretentious. Today in chose the Steak and Cheese hoagie with fried onions and side of French Fries with gravy. My dining companion went for the classic Hot Roast Beef sandwich with French Fries! You will not find a better hot sandwich anywhere. The Roast Beef and the Turkey are our go to's. Of course French Fries with gravy is the best side but they also offer mashed potatoes. Their gravy is out of this world! My Steak and Cheese hoagie was excellent.
