No pictures. Hubs and I are traveling with a three year old!! This is simple, good food. We came here after we landed at Scranton airport and the servers were all friendly. The food was good too. My husband ordered a cheesesteak and I ordered a porketta sandwich. He had birch beer and our granddaughter tried that for the first time. She loved it. Good place for a simple meal. read more

Stopped for breakfast on our way out of town. Parking lot was packed but we got seated right away. Fresh, strong coffee. Breakfast potatoes were bland. Just cooked potatoes. Would try hash-browns next time. Country fried steak was good. Sausage gravy was very good!! Hubs said the scrapple was great. Our family loves to try diners, but sometimes they can be a hit or miss! Well, Pittston Diner was a bit hit! We were seated immediately, and the wait staff was exceptional! (Not just our waitress - we could see the others, all with smiles and lotsa hustle, too!) The Greek Omelet not only looked great but tasted great too! And the Special with sausage patties and gravy sausage on top was so good they ran out of Croissants, but was so good on a bagel, that I can't wait to go back and try it on a croissant! The sausage wasn't grisly like in some restaurants. And the Caprese potatoes with onions and peppers were cooked perfectly - not overdone at all but nice and soft. Extremely cheap! I got the Egg's Benedict and it wasn't as I hoped it was but to each their own. My boyfriend got an omelette and it was delicious. The service was amazing! I mean they are so sweet in there, very nice and treats every customer well. The ambiance is nice since it's older diner style, it's the traditional booths and tables but it makes it nice. Also the bathroom was very clean, you typically don't see that but it was nice and smelled good when I went. Will probably come again. read more

Ran across this place yesterday for breakfast. It was pretty tasty!! Wait staff was talkitive and friendly. No " just an order taker"! Even tho we were not regulars. The food is great but observations on how they treat other customers are appalling. There seems to be racist attitudes towards Blacks and Hispanics. I was a little Leary by the outside of the place but was pleasantly surprised. Chicken francais, baked sweet potato , pickled beets and fresh Italian bread. Very delicious! Only $10.95 Very clean inside. Comfortable seating and pleasant waitstaff . The only thing I did not like was the funky iced tea. Stopped in early Sunday morning when many places were closed. I had eaten there 3 or 4 times previously and knew that I would not regret taking my wife and a friend there for breakfast. The only surprise was when the check arrived and it was so reasonable that we had to check to be sure nothing had been missed. It was correct. Our food was basic, bacon & eggs, ham & eggs etc. Nothing exotic. But when I am used to paying $30 and my bill is less than $20 I had to look twice. Good food, good service and good prices. This place was a horrible experience. We get there and the male waiter took our order about 10 minutes after we sat down same thing with drinks. This place is aces. My wife and I head down here from time to time for breakfast when she is not working weekends. I have yet to be disappointed. The service is always good, as is the food. Don't believe me? Head down on a Sunday morning for breakfast after the 8 and 9 a.m. mass lets out. You'll be waiting for a seat. But fret not, there is usually a seat or two at the counter. I prefer the counter myself. I feel like my coffee stays a little warmer that way. I normally get one of their great breakfast specials. Yesterday however I opted for a standard Philly Cheese Steak omelet, and it was great. I also got myself their hash brown casserole to go along with it and, yes, I ate it all! They are now offering a free mimosa or spiked coffee for the 21 and over crowd with the purchase of a breakfast special. That was a nice little add on to me. I didn't get it yesterday, but two weeks ago, I sipped a spiked coffee while my wife enjoyed her mimosa. As for lunch, well I can only comment on the once or twice I was there. I got my standard Diner fair of a burger and fries. And I have no complaints about that meal of food. I did get a cup of chili last go around and that was very tasty. If you are looking for quick good food, don't be shy, head on over. It is deceivingly small looking from the outside, but the Pittston Diner has a descent size dinning room. You can find me and my wife there once or twice a month for a great breakfast. There isn't much way to make this a flowery funny review. It's simply a good place to get some grub. read more

We had a large group here (20 people), and they knew well in advance we'd be coming. Based on the layout of this place, they couldn't put tables together, but they sat us at several adjacent tables. Well, after a bit where they slowly cleared out other diners from the section. Honestly, they ought to have said they can't really accommodate our group. We made it work, but there was a lot of people-shuffling. First impression was also not great. Waitress asked if I wanted anything to drink. I said "I need to take a look" and before I could even add, "but may I have a water?" she turned away and moved on. Then she came around with other people's drinks, and I asked if I could have one of the waters on the tray, and she said no, I had to wait. Seriously, I'm not asking for someone else's ordered soda. It's just water. Everyone should get water. Then she brought my water without lemon. I had to ask for the lemon. She came back and brought just one. I went back and quietly explained to her about this first impression, because I was quietly seething and did not want to disrupt the afternoon if anything else went wrong. Things did improve after that. I got the country-fried steak and egg breakfast with orange juice. The OJ didn't have a lot of flavor, and I couldn't tell if it was fresh or not. I have doubts, but it wasn't mechanical-tasting and it did have pulpy bits. The sausage gravy was very flavorful and the steak was nicely breaded. The rest of the dish (eggs, possibly bacon or some other meat?) held up well. I wouldn't bother coming back, but I'm not a diner person in general. The review could have gone worse. The food alone might have won 4 stars, but this review is for the whole experience. Also worth noting that though this place fronts on US 11, you can't get here from there. Parking on the old road is rather limited, and I ended up across the street at a big barn/warehouse. read more

Our first time going to the Pittston Diner. It was a Saturday around 1pm. My boyfriend really wanted breakfast, but I didn't so we figured most diners offer all day breakfast. When we arrived all they had out were the lunch/dinner menus so needless to say, my boyfriend was really disappointed. We were seated right away. The place is a lot bigger inside that what we had expected and also seems to be well taken care of. Nothing appeared dirty. Our server was friendly and came right over to take our drink order and then came back for our meal order. I had a grilled cheese on sourdough bread w/fries (it also came with a few pickle slices and a small side of coleslaw). My boyfriend had an open faced roast beef sandwich w/coleslaw and a side of fries w/melted american cheese and gravy (they asked what kind of cheese he wanted on the fries because the processed cheese is also an option). The only downsides were: my boyfriend immediately found a hair on his food and the server didn't come back to check on us or to see if we needed napkins or anything else until we were almost done (I could have used more napkins and ketchup since the bottle on the table was nearly empty when we were seated). Our bill only came a little under $20, which was terrific because we left stuffed. We'll go back some time and try it again. Hopefully without the extra piece of hair in any of the food! read more

Usually this place is pretty good but tonight not so much. We got there at 8. My wife orders coffee but no creamer on table. When asked the male waiter says it may have been removed because we close in a half an hour. That was odd. Door states 9 not 830. Then dinner came. My wife ordered a hamburger well done but it was rare. Once brought to the attention of the waiter he asked if we want fresh or taken off the check. My wife chose not to bother seeing this place is closing at 830 not 9. We felt rushed. Once the check came we were told the burger was off the bill but not the fries we ordered with it. I eat at this diner regularly. The food is always good and their prices are reasonable. Their breakfasts are great, and I love their breakfast potatoes. Their dinner specials usually come with a complimentary glass of wine. I've never had a bad meal there, and rarely have a problem with service. I used be to completely addicted to their Chicken Parmesan, but some time ago, they changed their tomato sauce, and it just isn't the same. Whether it is breakfast, lunch, dinner or takeout catering the Pittston Diner is leagues above standard! Its very obvious the diner employs a professional staff all around. The building is spotless, the waitstaff polite and attentive and the kitchen staff... WOW! The diner is not afraid to take chances in the kitchen as is evident by the weekly specials which have never ceased to amaze us. It's a diner. What else do you want? I felt like they could have had more variety on their menu. Or maybe I'm just used to 10 page diner menus with pictures. I got the egg bacon and cheese in a tortilla. Not recommended, it was basically a plain omelet, 2 slices of bacon, and a slice of american cheese rolled up and cut in half. A little bit of seasoning of any kind would have been nice. I probably should have ordered something different, everyone else's food looked pretty standard diner-fare. read more
