I think the "anthracite room" of this cute little diner is simply an extension of the smaller diner car-like main restaurant. I ordered breakfast here for us and took it back to our hotel. The food was good, and quite filling. My omelet was good and the house potatoes were a great accompaniment. My bebe got blueberry pancakes, a first for her, and she was thrilled. Service was good, even though we didn't eat in. After I'd gotten into the car but before leaving I realized that one of the meals was supposed to come with a coffee, and when I went in and explained to the server she got it for me after waiting a couple minutes to ask the other server, who'd taken the order. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place looks comfortable inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The parking lot seems quite large to me, but I'm not sure what it looks like on busy days. You know how they say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover? Well, I was totally wrong about this place! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had no idea the food was so good or the place was so spacious inside driving by it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There was even a separate section for the back of the facility to accommodate everyone. My friend always recommends this place, and I finally gave it a try. Just be prepared to wait if you go on a Sunday morning. The food was delicious, even though my pancakes weren't as hot as I'd hoped. They came on a separate plate from my scrambled eggs and hash browns, but they were still warm enough to enjoy. I gotta tell you places like this are few and far between. We traveled to the area for Labor Day weekend for some hiking and kayaking and we're surprised to find many breakfast places closed. Scratch kitchen was my first choice and YAHOO they were not only open but open early. The people are really great. The joint it quaint and comforting. Have to say first time here and food was amazing. I was in WB for a while and thought I would try out this place. It had a great menu online. Seated right away and the menu was impressive. Staff was very nice too. The food was not super impressive. The potato were uncooked and the pancakes were flavorless. The burrito was good though. Simply loved the weekend brunch. Banana bread french toast was finger-licking-delicious(Pic attached). I would order it anytime of the day and not get bored at all. Credit cards are accepted. Very reasonable prices. Great for groups. Their Anthracite room had a wheelchair accessible entrance but not the Scratch Kitchen from outside. Finding places like this, when you are in an area that is completely new to you, are why YELP! is awesome!! We were in the area for an appointment and hungry. I pulled up the Yelp app. I found the reviews intriguing, the menu looked great, so we headed over after our appointment. We were sad to find out that we could no longer get breakfast, which is what we really had our heart set on, But everything looks so good we just decided to order lunch. Very sad when I heard the news Andy's closed down; every visit since we'd just go to Denny's, but then everyone began to rave about Scratch Kitchen and I knew I had to give them a try. The menu was extensive, offering unique flavor combinations. It was very hard to decide. I wanted to try one of the loaded pancake combinations, but after all my holiday eating I settled for something savory in the sausage gravy and biscuits with eggs & my hubby the Tony Soprano omelette. The Tony Soprano was a massive omelette packed full of meat slices with bold seasoning on top- paired with tater tots (hubby's choice) and wheat bread this was a super hearty plate. The sausage and gravy gave me mixed feelings- the biscuits were flaky buttery and delicious. The sausage gravy was savory with a nice peppery kick and hearty sausage chunks-but paired with only two eggs the dish was on the smaller side and left me hungry. I think since everything else on the 'favorites' section comes paired with a potato option it was unfortunate they skimped on this dish. Sampling my nephew's chocolate chip pancakes, they were fluffy & buttery packed with chocolate chips. So glad we chose the Scratch Kitchen over IHOP for our breakfast. This is definitely a "diners, dives and drive-ins" kind of place. It's not much to look at; it is small but has a extensive menu and some great breakfast offerings. We had fun sharing mascarpone cheese and strawberry filled French toast, eggs Benedict, Turtle pancakes, short rib stuffed omelette, hash browns, scrapple, and coffee. We had a 15 minute wait for seating, but once our order was in, the delicious food came in a timely manner. All orders were well prepared. The pancakes are light and fluffy, the eggs In the Benedict were just right. Our waitress was Sabrina. She had a friendly attitude, and took good care of us. First off, wish I could give this place 6 stars. May I preface this review by saying we ended up walking in 30 minutes before their closing. It is a little hole in the wall diner. Definitely didn't expect what we got upon entering. Establishment was clean, friendly and had a great atmosphere. Was greeted with a very friendly hostess who sat us right away. Didn't even get any nasty looks seeing as though we were a party or six who came in only a half hour before closing. Got comfortable and ordering my beverage. A water, great water. Looking at the menu, there were so many unconventional options, really their entire menu filled with different and exciting food. Ended up ordering the breakfast burger, given, without really reading the description of the meal or else I may have ordered a different option as my appetite was not astronomical due to road trip snacking. The food came out quickly, especially when the entire diner was filled, not quite to capacity but pretty close. The burger was massive, and I was immediately met with a feeling of regret knowing I will not be able to finish this masterpiece. The burger came sandwiched between 2 French toast pieces met with a stack of breakfast sausage, slice of thick cut ham, 2 pieces of bacon, an egg and a nice big ol beef patty. Came with fries & a bit of maple syrup. I ended up demolishing half of the burger, it was excellent great flavors and surely an unconventional sandwich. My only complaint being the sandwich was dry, I would say if instead of a scrambled egg slab being thrown in the mix if it were a fried egg with liquid yolk it would have been that much better. read more

First time here and I think I found my new go-to breakfast spot! This used to be Andy's Diner. Menu is big and filled with so many amazing breakfast choices. When given a choice of potatoes to go with your breakfast, you can choose from at least 5 different options including onion rings! The potato casserole was cheesy and DELICIOUS! There's so many meat choices as well, including scrapple (my fave). I order the Short Rib Omellete and it was very flavorful with the perfect amount of meat, cheese and onion. My friend loved her Tony Soprano omelette, which was filled with a bunch of Italian meats and cheese. The service was top notch and our server was very helpful, friendly and attentive. Went to Scratch Kitchen for the first time yesterday. The food was terrible. I ordered from the lunch menu, a Turkey Club. The wheat bread was over toasted, the bacon was over cooked, that is, the half of piece on the sandwich. The potato salad was flavorless. Very disappointed. Undoubtedly one of the worst club sandwiches I've ever had. I complained to the waitress and she said the manager would be out. Fifteen minutes later and still no manager. Not sure if it was because we were older or they just don't care. As a senior citizen, I am appalled at the lack of respect this restaurant has for it's customers. When you are on Social Security you can't afford to waste money on an inedible lunch. read more

Welcome to The Scratch Kitchen & Anthracite Room, now like the name says the food is made and prepared from scratch. I ordered the gut buster omelet. This was packed with cheese, assorted of meats, and some healthy vegetables. I got as a side potatoes calabrese. While I was there, I ran into, well they spotted me but two guys that follow the shows. That was awesome! I love meeting my followers, I like to call them fans. Now, this gut busted literally busted me, it was that full and very delicious. If you go, tell them you saw this video. I am going back to try a lunch item in the near future. ** Update2.2023 ** I am back here at The Scratch Kitchen on River Street in Plains Pa! Now a few years back I took on their gut buster omelet where that was a good and filling breakfast. I'll put the link below if you have not seen it yet. I vowed to return someday to try one of their burgers or sandwiches, well that time is now! I wanted something other than a burger, reading over their menu i got the triple decker corn beef Reuben sandwich. This was piled high with corn beef, kraut, big eye Swiss cheese, and that thousand island dressing. As you can see from the video this is a packed sandwich. I also got a side of their home-made potato salad. My sandwich was full of taste, an excellent choice, the bread toasted to perfection. My potato salad had skins in which I normally do not get it like this, I liked everything a lot. I give The Scratch Kitchen a home run 5 out of 5 for taste and service. Kudos to my server, she was on the ball making sure not just myself but her section. She was professional friendly and giving off a very positive vibe, (She deserves a raise or at least a bonus). Me and my wife were blown away. This little diner, from the looks of it is very nice and spacious on the inside. They have a huge & and exciting menu. I enjoyed my food and the staff. I'm not a huge breakfast person. It's not that I don't like breakfast but sometimes I just don't feel like getting up. But I will admit this place is worth getting up early. Breakfast and lunch are great. Absolutely huge portions, I cannot finish an omelette. Great in house made corned beef hash. I rarely eat Belgium waffles, but I crave theirs. I must also mention the outstanding service. Staff is beyond friendly and competent. After a visit or 2 you are remembered and chances are good they will even remember your previous conversation. Super, super friendly and welcoming. I do recommend getting there early since they fill up quickly. Seems like after 10 is when it gets rocking, not sure if they take reservations since I sit at the counter. We are very fortunate to have many great breakfast spots so add Kitchen to your list. Took a trip to the mountain to find this gem. When found, i didn't see much pictures or anything on the search but i found the name super interesting. So we decided to go and it's actually called Andy's kitchen/diner which if we haven't had called to ask for location we would have missed it. When you arrive, It's an old style looking dinner but once your inside it's definitely spacious. We got seated immediately which was great. We ordered the special which was a siracha chicken omelet and the southern fried chicken cheeser which we were torn between since they did also have a Maine lobster and Mac and cheese sandwich as well. The food came out and the omelet wasn't as described. Honestly the omelet didn't taste good, all the fillings were super dry and nothing to hold them together. The sandwich was AMAZING definitely would come back for another the Mac and cheese was made with what i think is white cheddar and the bacon and piece of chicken was very generous definitely bug enough to share it came accompanied with tomato bisque which was flavorful and definitely tasted fresh not from a pre made or bag. The service was horrible! The waitress came to check up on us maybe 2-3 times. She kept walking by us and not making any eye contact. We needed drinks and waited about 10 min before she came by and we got her attention and let's not talk about the wait time for a refill...... if the service would of been better definitely would of gave this place a 5 stars.
