Spanish pork chop
Scott S.

When I lived in Northeast PA, Rustic Kitchen was one of my go-to spots after, ahem, "donating" some funds to the Mohegan tribe via the slot machines. Fast forward a few years, and during a recent visit back to the area, I found myself with no plans on New Year's Eve. Thankfully, some old friends knew I'd be a lonesome third wheel, so they graciously invited me to join their dinner plans at Rustic Kitchen. They even had a reservation and managed to sneak me in. On New Year's Eve, no less! That's already a win in my book. We arrived at 7:30 p.m. and were promptly seated in a cozy booth--great for catching up and digging into some good food. Rustic Kitchen was offering its regular menu plus a special New Year's Eve menu, which included a surf and turf option for $75. One of my friends splurged on it, but I had my eye on some other options. Since I was driving, I asked if they had non-alcoholic beer, and to my surprise, they had two options! Huge props for that. As we chatted and reminisced, we nibbled on some fresh, fluffy focaccia bread that was dangerously addictive. Then it was time to order, and I started with the Meatballs al Forno. A very generous portion of tender, flavorful meatballs bubbling away in marinara, smothered with melty mozzarella cheese. It was so good I almost forgave my friends for refusing to help me devour them. Almost. Next up was a salad that was on the special menu for the evening. It featured mixed greens, walnuts, blackberries, and a glorious, creamy ball of housemade burrata cheese. It was fresh, delicious, and a perfect segue to the star of the meal: the Spanish Pork Chop. This wasn't just any pork chop--it was a bone-in beauty, cooked to a perfect medium and topped with the chef's mother's secret sauce. The sauce was a mix of bacon, onions, olives, and light tomato flavors that brought everything together. It came with mashed potatoes and broccolini. When dessert time rolled around, we all pretended to be strong-willed and skipped it. Despite it being a holiday, the service was unhurried and impeccable, with each course arriving at just the right pace. Rustic Kitchen was everything I remembered it to be--excellent food, warm atmosphere, and stellar service. It's no wonder this place has stood the test of time as one of the original restaurants at Mohegan Sun. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by. And as for the slot machines?

Decided to "get out", so we took my Dad to the Mohegan Sun Casino. We started by first having dinner at the Rustic Kitchen. Being there just as it opened (4:00pm), seating as readily available. Dad likes to eat early. Service was good. The food was good. It wasn't great. My dad had the burger (rare). He didn't even pause when they placed it in front of him, so I couldn't get a picture. He thinks Yelping is dumb. Never argue with an 84 year old. lol. My steak was good. My wife had the Strawberry Salad (with steak). She liked it. Food is a little pricy. For a few dollars more, I could have gone to the restaurant next door for my steak. Anyway...... They have a "studio" area where they do a live cooking show (on Fridays and Saturdays). That might be interesting. Plan ahead.

Steak and crab cake are must-try, they are really great, and beef with mashed potatoes is really amazing! This restaurant Rustic Kitchen Bistro & Bar is a western restaurant with American Southern style. Especially when I come here at night, the lighting here is particularly beautiful.

Jeremy was awesome! So glad that I was referred to this restaurant because the service was top notch! I had a great time and Jeremy knew the menu and how to accommodate my dietary requests. I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcomes. I sat at the bar which was virtually empty until some locals arrived. They had been here several times and provided great meal time conversation. I learned a lot about the area as well. My meal was good. I couldn't have been more pleased with the taste, flavor, guidance, experience or quantity of food. It was excellent! However, I can't possibly give enough shoutouts or credit to Jeremy who made my experience extra special. A heartfelt thank you!

I was in town for work and wanted to try this restaurant out. I didn't realize it was inside the Mohegan Sun. When I arrived I parked in their lot. I walked in and found the restaurant by the casino. The restaurant was super nice. I sat at the bar and Tracy was my bartender and she was great. I started with the lemon drop martini and it was tasty. I then went with the espresso martini and the coffee was too strong so I went back to the lemon drop. For my dinner, I got saffron shrimp linguini. When it came out it looked delicious. When I dug in it was super tasty. I enjoyed the flavoring! I truly enjoyed my time and would return.

We had gone to rustic kitchen many many years ago and I think we liked it. Our returned experience was not as memorable. Our server was a strange and kept making weird faces as she spoke to us, the food tasted like it came out a can, and the bill was very high for what we got.

Came here to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday. We all were staying in the hotel and gambling in the casino and wound up at this restaurant for the big birthday dinner celebration. We were a party of 6, so we made reservations in advance. The decor of the restaurant was great. Lots of cool images were all around us. We all started out ordering a bunch of different cocktails and mixed drinks. I went with the spicy margarita and I loved it. The tequila used was great and so smooth. After a while, we ordered our meals, and everyone enjoyed themselves. I had the spicy shrimp meal, which was awesome. Perfect amount of heat. A popular choice from everyone was the hanger steak. No one snapped a photo of it, though, lol. But everyone raved how good it was. My mom went with the salmon meal, and she loved it. Overall, we had a blast here and really enjoyed ourselves. The food and drinks are on point here. Highly recommended!

Food quality / price (value) rating 7.5. The atmosphere is contemporary flair casino style. The food was okay, service was okay, prices were okay. I had the Orecchietta with sausage, and the wife had the Tagliatelle Bolognese. Both were good, but nothing to really make me come again. The only thing that really stood out was the Pistachio Cake dessert with whipped cream frosting and vanilla ice cream - fantastic!

Enjoyed our dinner here today. Place is nice and spacious. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. What I really liked was that the manager was going around the tables to make sure everyone was doing ok and had what we needed. Our food was so delicious and the presentation was really nice. We had a good time and would recommend this place. I'm not sure how busy it gets in the weekends but I recommend a reservation.

We're on board with, and on record as saying to all our friends that, MVD is our favorite spot. But…read moresince we like trying new places too, we had to come back for the first time in over a year. It's not just the variety of tapas options, or the incredible wine selection, or the impeccable hospitality that will keep you coming back; it's the culinary journey rarely taken where the food transports you and you just sit back speechless thinking, "that was IT, where has this been?" You'll leave completely stuffed, and they'll be drinks... lots of drinks; but the concoctions are adventurous and more than worth trying a few of, and that's before you get to the wine list. They know their stuff; they travel the world to find inspiration for their own curated menu, but bring lesser-known varietals to the forefront that really challenge your palate and leave you needing to speak directly to the associate at the wine and spirits store, in the best way possible. If you have an unoaked chardonnay available, I immediately like you! You don't have to wait long once you order for those tasty shareable plates to come firing out; they're quick, efficient but also know how to help you pace your meal. Funny thing about this meal (that we shared with another couple we go touring with) is that it turned into a Catholic-guided, Lent-abiding seafood extravaganza, which was not necessarily our goal on approach. I love when a place really surprises you with things you wouldn't typically think to pair together or even order, and they become some of your favorite things altogether. Case in point, the escargot; most escargot I've ever had was rubbery, soaked in butter and masked with garlic. None of that was going on here, and they even did the work for you with the shells. Anything fried (empanadas, yuca fries, oysters, seabass tacos) had a very even, full but thin breading. Not a trace of residual oil, nothing heavy about it and still the right temp inside to not blast the filling. I really enjoyed the oysters, and the pickled radish and shallot would be good as an accompaniment for ANYTHING. The chimichurri is spot on, and anytime it appears on the menu, which it does several times, you should get those items. The butter sauce with a camarones was drinkable, the empanadas never disappoint, and the almond tart with wine-poached pears for dessert was literal perfection. Overall, our favorite drink was the Holy Smokes and they have a team-oriented approach to presenting dishes table side. Fun and friendly, the staff is knowledgeable, patient and has great personal recommendations, all with legit culinary knowledge. Go...like, now!

¡Vamos a tapear!…read more This is my first time in Wilkes-Barre and after almost a week of eating pizza, and other assorted quick bites across the town, I was in the mood for something more. I'm from Las Vegas, and I can only eat so much pizza! MVD was recommended to me by someone who hasn't even dined here yet if that tells you how much people talk about this place. It's about 12 mins or so from where I am staying near the arena/Kings College area and is easy to access with its own parking lot. When I walked up, I was very impressed. It is so cute and welcoming! There's a bar at the front when you walk in and you're immediately greeted by smiling faces. The face that greeted me belonged to Brian. (I hope it's with an I and not a Y...sorry if not!) He immediately sat me for my solo reservation and made sure I understood the concept and menu and gave me some time to look it over. They are only open from 5-9 and I arrived at 7:15pm. Nearly everything is made fresh in house (even the ravioli are hand stuffed...wow) and Brian couldn't give the chef enough props for what she does there every day. I ordered the chicken empanada, camarones (shrimp), and mini hamburguesas as well as a caipirinha (alcoholic drink). Tapas are small plates, almost like appetizers, and although the servings are not large, the flavors are so rich it feels like they are! Everything made me do a "happy dance" and I even saved the sauce from my shrimp to dip my burger in. It didn't need it at all, but I couldn't let the sauce go! The empanada...jeez. I wish I remembered to take a photo before I dove in. And the mini burgers...Immaculate. The ambiance is so welcoming. I ended up speaking to every diner around me and even got to talk to another foodie couple who traveled there from some towns over after discovering MVD on a prior visit. They told me something I already knew as well: I'll be back to try the things I missed because YOU CANT GO WRONG! Sal, Brian, and there was a woman at the front as well were all great. And they have a promotion where you send a postcard to anyone you want after your meal. So cute!! I will def visit MVD EVERY time I come to Wilkes-Barre and support them bringing new flavors to the town. I can't rave enough!

And it's not just the creative food, the outstanding wines, or the accommodating service. It's the one thing that all great restaurants have: an absolute commitment to making sure each customer has a fantastic experience. You can serve all the tasty food you want, but without that commitment, you'll always be good and not great. It's something these folks understand. I'm guessing it's also why everyone - and I mean everyone - we saw in the restaurant during our last visit had a big smile on their face. So yeah, we could recommend the outrageously delicious Balkan platter, the innovative pastas, or the proteins with avant garde flavor combinations. We could talk about the deep, rich wines from Croatia and Slovenia. We could muse about the modern surroundings with rustic touches. But all of that is subservient to the main point here: This is a great restaurant operating at the top of its game. It's worth the visit. It's worth a detour. I know - the secret will be out. But these folks deserve it.

The extensive menu features a variety of brunch options, salads, and sandwiches. Their veggie options are a bit limited, but definitely present (ex: falafel salad, avocado toast), and many of the dishes feature unique combinations and homemade sauces/aiolis. I landed on the Smoked Salmon Avocado toast, which was fine. I was disappointed that it seemed to be made with prepackaged guacamole/avocado (I'm sure for cost reasons), and the bread was pretty thick so it was challenging to eat. Flavor-wise, it was solid, but I think I'll try one of the other, more creative options next time. My cousin chose their turkey sandwich and seemed to enjoy. It was large enough that she took half home! Our food arrived before our matcha lattes, so we wound up asking for to-go cups. The matcha itself was delicious, though sweeter than we anticipated (in retrospect, we should have realized that a "white chocolate lavender matcha macchiato" would be pretty sweet!).
