We had a beautiful night sitting outside eating amazing finger licking cumin ribs! They were asian infused & the meat glided right off the bone. The special soup was delicious & the strawberry rhubarb dessert we requested with vanilla ice cream instead of the strawberry sour cream. The rhubarb could of been hotter but I'm not complaining. The Good: We have been here about 10 times and the food has been consistently delicious each time. The homemade guacamole is really tasty and a great starter. Nice menu selection, everything from burgers to full entrees. We have yet to pick something that we did not enjoy. Diverse beer and wine selection to go with any meal. Because we have enjoyed quite a few meals here without incident, I am going to chalk the past 2 "so-so" visits up to what seemed like staffing issues. The Bad: Past few visits have been really disappointing as far as service goes. Long waits for service and food, even on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Hostess sat us and no one came to the table for 20 minutes. Staff not really too concerned about it and not real apologetic. One waitress (serving another table next to us) saw us sitting there and never once offered to help us or let management/hostess know that no one had even come to offer us drinks. The bartender and possibly manager(?) was a little rude on our past visit which was kind of disheartening. We have brought friends and family here over the past 2 years or so and really started enjoying this place. We take the 45 minute ride because the food has been worth it. We are not ready to give up on the Gladstone; but, we hope that reviews like this will cause them to take a look at whatever is happening and make some changes. This would have been at least a 4 star or even 5 but for the service. Better luck next time....... read more

It's an adorable quaint NJ community, no stop lights, and Gladstone Tavern stands out as the beautifully lit restaurant in the center of town. From the first time I drove past I was DYING to go inside. And I finally did:) This is a perfect place for a special occasion or romantic dinner....can you say AMBIANCE...? I ordered the wine braised short ribs with whipped potatoes and brussel sprouts. I actually dislike brussel sprouts but am always curious to find a place that can make them enjoyable. So the short ribs were absolutely delicious. Incredibly tender and full of flavor. The whipped potatoes were a little too....too...soupy is the best word I can come up with. But overall they were good. And I have to say, the brussel sprouts were good. Not great, but I have a feeling if you like brussel sprouts, you would love them. And then there was dessert. Banana Krunch I think it was called and it was THE BOMB. I was unwilling to share it. Overall great experience. Will def be back! read more

We hosted our Rehearsal Dinner at Gladstone Tavern for 60 guests on the terrace patio in mid May, and could not have had a more perfect experience. Tom, Jenny and Rick were incredibly accommodating from the moment of our (early) arrival - serving our guests drinks a bit early, gracefully arranging for a last minute addition of 2 guests, and having a fabulous menu for adults, kids, and those with dietary restrictions alike. Our guests are still raving about the food - from the salads, filet, iron skillet chicken, fish, and vegan pad Thai - and we are a VERY particular bunch!! I cannot say enough about the friendly and warm service we were so appreciative to have, from planning the menu with Tom until the very end! So much so that I felt compelled to give the Captain, Jenny, a hug when we left! This was the perfect kickoff to a perfect wedding weekend! Thank you Tom and team!! read more

I have been going to this place for years and I am glad the food and experience have been consistently top-notch. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the chef/owner hailed from same hometown I was raised..CHS '83! I love the beer selection and pleased to see that rotating taps are top-quality and carefully-selected. Please do advertise it on website or beer menu so patrons from afar can be informed on current taps. Keep up the great work and hospitality. Stopped in on Labor Day as boo and I toodled around town while going for a drive. We sat at the bar and was greeted by the bartender Jasmine, had some beer and wine (good options for both and a full bar as well) we had the crab appetizer which was really good and the salmon entree which was cooked to amaze but was a slightly smaller portion than I would expect for the price. Regardless we had a great meal, the service was amazing and we will certainly be back !!! read more

I recently dined with my family at the Gladstone Tavern for a spur of the moment celebration. Upon arrival and after discussing our situation with staff members we were seated in a semi-private upstairs room. The atmosphere was perfect and the food (iron skillet half chicken, roasted half-cured salmon and housemade potato-onion pierogi) was outstanding. All were served fresh, hot and pleasantly plated. The staff was very attentive and accommodating which added to the celebration. Kudos and 5 Stars to the manager, Mr. Frank DeFelice and his staff for going the extra mile and making our dinner a memorable experience!!! PS- I'm certain we'll all be repeat customers. read more

Took the family today for my wife's birthday. Beautiful snowy day; perfect atmosphere. We sat in the dining room near the fireplace. Crab tots and steamed littleneck appetizers were excellent. Coq au vin and sandwiches were fine. Beer selection was nice, but a little pricey: Stone IPA $7. Service was pleasant but rather slow despite a nearly empty restaurant. I read that the desserts were amazing, but they didn't live up to the billing. My son's yule log cake with meringue mushrooms was very dry and lacking in flavor; we barely touched it. After seeing the reviews, I'm wondering why the management has not solved the service problem. High prices and hit or miss food aren't so hard to take when the service is great. read more

The crab tots were great, but I wished there were more. The Duck Quesadilla and the Mexican Shrimp wrap were excellent. The Shrimp wrap needs to have the shrimp chopped up. A whole shrimp is tough to bite and if it falls out of the wrap, you have nothing left. Loved the fries (Shoestring). The wait staff was very attentive, even though we had my nephew there, she took care of him too. The prices are a bit high, especially for the amount of food you get, but I guess it's Gladstone. the place is bright, modern inside with a nice porch for outside eating. The lunch was good but very slow (over 25 mins to get our food and we ordered off the lunch menu). They had good iced tea and the bar looked very nice as a place to meet people and wait for a table or have some bar food. I had fish and chips which was good. My friends had a Cobb salad, salmon salad and brisket. Everyone liked their food. Three for me means a place i would go back to if i were in the area. read more

I came here to celebrate my Birthday, as it was close to my Family and a good meeting spot. I waited for my Family to arrive, and headed over to the bar to have a drink while I waited, and quickly realized, that this place was a little pricey. However the bartender was attentive so I was OK with that. We were seated and our order was taken. We ordered the GT'S Signature "Crab Tots" and Crispy Fried Squid as appetizers, which were very good. The sauces complimented the food very well, and each had a distinctively different taste which made the meal very appetizing. Than our main course came out which took which felt like and eternity. 4 out of 5 of us were happy with the food, and actually were very pleased, however the one dish, was very undercooked. When asked to replace the meal, the staff was very quick to try and alleviate the situation and asked what my brother would like instead. The Wait staff was not the most attentive staff in the world, and there were too many on the wait staff which there first language wasn't english. We had Dessert here, seeing as it was my birthday, which was very good. The meal was good, however for the price, there shouldn't be anything that needs to go back, nor should there be any staff who has trouble understanding questions. read more

Not impressed. It's a beautiful building with an outside patio for summer dining. Service was poor for an upscale establishment. Our waiter, while seemingly attentive, was forgetful and easily frustrated - dropped the F-bomb several times, not acceptable. How many times must you have to ask for (fill in the blank)? Food was marginal, some of us liked our meals, others did not. I had the Hanger Steak and thought it was bland and not properly cooked. Pricing was as expected for the area. Great food, nice atmosphere, cool decor. Wonderful staff! Ate here for the first time after many recommendations. We ordered the buffalo bite app., scallops entree (highly recommended), red snapper special (OK), green bean side dish (good), and trio almond ice cream w/ choc ganache dessert (yummy!) They have a nice patio for outdoor dining and the inside dining is decorated w/ warm colors. I believe this tavern gets busy so definitely make reservations. Beyond awful. Our first waiter who had an attitude problem basically said he would be back, then disappeared. A second waiter came by for our drink order 15 minutes later - telling us they were missing different alcohols and couldn't make 3 of our drinks "because of covid." The first nasty waiter came by, took our appetizer order. A third waitress came by to apologize and said the kitchen was backed up "because of covid," and took our order for dinner. TWO HOURS later the appetizers never showed up, and when we asked to speak to Tom, the owner, we were told he was too busy to come out "because of covid." If covid is such an issue - why be open? Your staff is beyond rude, never apologized, just ignored. And when confronted became angry and kept using covid as an excuse. Based on other poor reviews, Tom will say we shouldn't be complaining "because of covid" - he is a terrible owner, he should work at the CDC since covid is his excuse du jour. Never got appetizers, got a mediocre dinner, and no apologies other than the one waitress. Never again - I'm sure Tom will say "don't come back," and he needn't worry. I will tell EVERYONE how horrible your service, or lack thereof, is. read more

This was my second visit to Gladstone Tavern and my second not great review of it. I have bad luck with this place. Brought the family two weeks ago for what was supposed to be an enjoyable Sunday brunch. I noticed some flies near the windows as soon as I sat down but it was the bees not the flies that were the real problem. As soon as the meal arrived bees swarmed the table. We moved tables from the porch to the lawn and sat down to try again but the bees came too. Although the other tables were full, no one else had food yet so the bees stuck with us. It was too unpleasant to eat under these conditions so it had to be packed to take home where we then went for our enjoyable Sunday brunch. read more

i really love the Gladstone Tavern ! I love the design , sitting at the Bar is our favorite. The food is delicious and fresh, yes, it's pricey but that is NJ, i don't mind paying if it's quality, but they really need to work on the service - staff is very nice and friendly, but the service is just too slow - so slow !!! They just need to hire more people for the shifts, including wait staff for the tables surrounding the bar. That is my only negative, otherwise i love everything, and it's great that you can sit on porch with your Dog ! read more

Dined here for lunch. Vegan gluten free options available. Decent food. Accommodated special requests related to food allergies. Ambiance is good. Placed filled up nicely. Fries were really good. The right amount of crisp and not too much salt so order the fries if you're ever here. Only complaint I have is the unusual amount of flies flying around in the dining area. You could tell these women knew their stuff and they hustled from the time we walked in ,to the time we left, an hour later. We have been to the Tavern many times over the past 15 years.It has always been very consistently good food & great service.One thing that has changed is you no longer get bread before or with your meal.First time I realize this is when I ordered the short ribs and requested bread to sop up the wonderful gravy.I was told there would be a $3 charge.Being a thick headed Italian, I passed ,frankly it ruined the total experience for me and swore not to return.We frequent local restaurants once or twice a week.Not one of the local restaurants that we visit Charge for bread,it is part of the meal.Well my significant other talked me into visiting the Tavern last Friday.Again the food,the wine,& the service was great.But the policy pertaining to bread with your meal has not changed. I would rather pay $1 or $2 more for my meal as a posed to the bread charge. It's not the damn $3 bucks,it ruined the experience! Most people go to restaurants not because they need to eat but it is for the total experience! So the Tavern is now a BYOB/ Bring your own bread. Peter read more

It's rare to find a quality restaurant such as the Gladstone Tavern in this area. The menu changes every season, but some of my favorites have been the Pork Chop, 1/2 Chicken, and the Hanger Steak. You can't go wrong with any of their salads, and the hummus and guacamole are excellent. In my opinion, they have the best burger in the state. The meat is consistently juicy, the bun sturdy, and the toppings bring it all together. I've also never had a better french fry. They're not too thick, not too thin, and perfectly crispy. The cocktail menu is fantastic. The Pineapple Haze is a seasonal drink, but when it's on the menu, I refuse to order anything else. They also have an excellent beer selection and wine list. I love ice cream, and the ice cream they have is made in-house and delicious. Every menu detail is well thought out, and it shows. The quality of service, food, and drink is top notch. read more
