We joined New Jersey National Gold Club last year and have been having dinner at the Red Oak Grille every Friday night since. The staff is wonderful: Marissa, Amy, Hannah, Shannon, Blaze, and Caroline. The best of the best. They remember your favorite drink and nothing is too much for this team. They have a new chef this season, and he is fantastic. The Kansas City strip is better than any steakhouse around. The salmon on Fregola with vegetables and avocado purée is five-star. They have the best burger in town. This place is a hidden gem, beautiful views and wonderful cocktails. A lot of people don't realize that the Red Oak is open to the public, they think it's for Members of the golf club. Make a reservation and check it out for lunch or dinner. I've been here several times with family and enjoyed myself every outing. Service is fantastic, prompt and helpful. They did temperature checks before seating us outside on the patio recently and had hand sanitizer at each table (pictured). The view is really lovely seeing the golf course and hills a few miles out. Food was delicious, and cooked to everyone's requests. The burger was fantastic, great quality meat and the fries were hearty and still crispy/hot. Will for sure be back, definitely worth trying out in the area! read more

I have been going to the Red Oak Grille in the summer for many years! They always have a great selection of food and drinks, and the service is always very attentive. Would recommend stopping by if you are looking for a nice dinner with a view. Food-wise, you can't go wrong with any of their meat entrees (fish, chicken, and steak are always cooked perfectly). Their quesadillas and sandwiches are awesome too. Their dinner and cocktail menus change throughout the summer but everything is fresh and nicely plated. Last year they had a vegetarian cauliflower steak that was fantastic. They are also great with allergies. Definitely don't pass up an opportunity to sit outside and overlook the beautiful golf course! Just note that as of right now they are only open until 7:30 pm , and also are sometimes booked on weekends for private events, so definitely call beforehand to secure a reservation. read more

Standard American fare, nicely prepared but a little pricey, very generous portions at lunch. On a fine day you can sit in the rear open dining room (open walls that is, still under a ceiling) and gaze across the golf course and the hills. Cheapest choice is a grilled-cheese sandwich with fries for about $14, the Grille also offers many entrees at lunch up to almost $30. Bar offers 6 macro brews like Stella. On our visit the service was stellar (helpful, quick, friendly) but the kitchen was slow, food took 30 minutes to arrive at midday with the place pretty quiet, that's a little too long. I tried a turkey club which was done properly, far too much food for a single person, a side of fries was Belgian style and very hot, perfect. Rest of my group was also happy with their choices. Vegetarian rating: 3 stars, there's that grilled-cheese sandwich, a veg risotto and many salads. I'd have to say, it exactly met my expectations for a golf club. read more

A beautiful place, but I was disappointed in the service and the food. Made a reservation for 7 people for 7pm to celebrate a special occasion. When I made the reservation, I was told that is the latest reservation for the evening. That's fine, but what I did not expect is that as soon as we sat down we were told the kitchen is closing in 8 minutes and that we needed to order quickly. When we were ordering, we were told they were out of several menu items guests wanted. We were the only ones in the restaurant and felt very rushed. After our food came out the server did not check to see if we needed anything or if our food was OK. I actually had to walk into the kitchen to get someone's attention. Clearly, the staff was preparing to close. One guest ordered a cheeseburger and it did not come with pickles. Fine. When she asked for sliced pickles, she was told they do not have pickles. Who ever heard of a burger served without pickles? They did not have tartar sauce for the fish tacos, either. The folks who ordered the shrimp scampi pasta said it was delicious. The fish tacos had very thin tortillas so they fell apart when picked up. And there was no side with them; no fries, nothing. Quite disappointing. A 20% gratuity was added to the bill. For an upscale restaurant, I was very disappointed. It was quite pricey for what was received. I certainly won't rush back. read more

The bar was an ok start. The Rob Roy was not bad. We had our choice of tables as it was not a crowded night. The food was unimpressive in presentation and lacked flavor. For example the Aztec Tomato Soup was overly spiced but tasted more or less like Campbells Tomato Soup. And the croutons were out of a bag. Sacchetti pasta were boring and included hard, tasteless peas. My guess is that the kitchen is trying hard but the ingredients being supplied are just not of high quality. Came here last Friday with my work peeps, a total of six people. Never been and wanted to check it out. Had trouble finding the place, I went right past the entrance, mainly due to the small sign out front. First impression is good once I got in. Plenty of parking in the lot to the left and another lot closer on the right. Cool interior, smallish tables by the bar on the right, dining room tables on the left. Dark wood decor, nice and inviting. Bartenders were good and friendly, they really upped the star count on their own, I'll elaborate later. Service: We had six people so we moved to the dining room table. The host dude was very accommodating, props to that guy, he offered to get us to a larger table once that table's reservation got cancelled. We were good, so we declined. Anyway, the waitress started good but once the crowd got a little bigger, she got overwhelmed. She could've used a little more help. Red Oak probably missed out on at least one more round of drinks from us, if not two. Get her some help, guys lol. Food: Oh boy, one of my work peeps low-graded the food here a bit, didn't believe him but then here we are... Me and another person got the fish 'n chips, won't make that mistake again. Listen, I wanted to get some fried food 'cause I'm in the mood, also, fish 'n chips is hard to screw up right? Anyway, they came out soggy, like either A) It's been sitting in the kitchen awhile, or B) They didn't deep fry long enough. I took a quick scientific* survey at work, they all agree If you see bacon-wrapped scallops on the menu, you'd expect at least three half dollar sized scallops, right? Quarter sized? #SMH. I was gonna do a "That's a NO for me, dawg" on this place but then I remember I ordered a Bloody Mary that night. It was so good, I ordered another one (before I was half done, because you know why, see above). The bartender, got this place another star by that delicious drink. Nevermind the fact that it wasn't Sunday brunch, I love that drink, okay!? Yeah, probably gonna just stick to drinks next time. I believe other reviewers had mentioned prices being too high. We just had the most fabulous party here and wanted to share. We had 46 guests for a private event to celebrate a milestone birthday. Jason Ruggiero created a delicious custom vegetarian menu for us, which included some vegan options. All our guests raved about the food, including those who are not even vegetarian. The service was exceptional and the view on the outdoor patio was unmatched by any other venue in the area. We all enjoyed expansive views of the beautiful New Jersey National Golf Club. Our party took place on the back covered terrace and the weather was perfect, but it would have been great even if it rained because it is covered. The party started at 5PM when it was still light out but ended by 9PM, and the Manhattan skyline could be seen far in the distance after dark. It was all just so magical. We love this place and go here often for dinner with family and/or friends. We are not members of the golf club but luckily the restaurant is open to the public so it was not necessary to be a member to have this party. Our guests wrote to us the next day to say they had a wonderful evening. I highly recommend Red Oak Grille for dinner, but also if you are looking to have an event or large party. read more

The food is absolutely delicious and the view is amazing whether you are sitting outside overlooking the golf course or enjoying the ambience inside (pre-pandemic). I was counting down the days until they opened again! However, the most important part that makes Red Oak Grille stand out amongst all the competition is their customer service! I'm giving three stars because I was there prior to this visit and had a great experience. This year's (2017) Easter brunch was disappointing in comparison to two years ago. The food was lukewarm, and the selections lackluster. The ambience is nice, the service is nice, but nothing really seemed to set Red Oak apart from any other decent holiday buffet. I've officially thrown out my supposition that living in a nice area would guarantee me a good meal. The ambiance was quite nice and comfortable, slightly rustic but with clean edges. On to the important stuff: I decided to go with the Mongolian Pork Chop (10 oz., Mongolian spice marinated, drizzled with mustard cream, wood chip smoked, braised red cabbage, starch du jour). I must admit, my typical M.O. is to narrow it down to 2 selections and let the sides talk me into my final decision. So here, the braised red cabbage suckered me in and seriously, who doesn't love a starch? Well, in this case, me. I was going to address the sides first as they ultimately determined my selection, but it came to me that my first impression of my meal was the aroma that emanated up from the plate and into my nostrils while I waited for the rest of my party to be served. Had I closed my eyes and gone off scent alone, I would have sworn I had been transported back in time to this summer at Citi Field with a good old Nathan's hot dog in my hands. Drizzled with mustard cream? For real? It was straight up French's yellow mustard zigzagged across my chop. It looked like a bad art deco craft project gone awry. Needless to say, I felt the mustard completely overwhelmed whatever Mongolian spice marinade had gone into the chop although I will also say that I'm a stickler for the way a pork chop is cooked, and this was cooked quite well. Very juicy but that was all it had going for it. On to the sides. Oh, how pleased I was to see that the starch du jour was mashed potatoes, one of my favorite foods on earth! That was until I stuck my fork in them. The way they broke, I thought I was in for the powdered box stuff, no joke. Then I realized there was literally no fat of any kind holding them together, not a lick of butter or dairy that I could detect, and certainly no salt. Major disappointment. As for the braised red cabbage, a second fail. The color was off-putting, perhaps just cooked down a tad too much I thought, but I held out hope. They tasted like nothing, no acidity or any sweetness of any kind that one would expect with such a dish. The only purpose they served was to give the mashed potatoes some element of moisture. One tiny insignificant plus is that my house salad was dressed properly. I go with ranch (I know, I know, but it's a childhood favorite), and typically you end up getting the gross low-fat stuff, it's drenched, or both. The dressing itself was good and was placed at the bottom of the plate. Just enough to dress the salad without it being naked or overwhelmed. Oh, it was my birthday and I was surprised with the chocolate molten cake, which is not a dish I enjoy, but the ice cream that came with it was tasty. The menu said it was Brazilian coffee flavor, but I felt it came across more of a mocha which I did enjoy. Perhaps I would have been better off going with the strip, or a burger. I did steal a pickle off a friend's plate and I found it unappetizing, which for me, is a pretty hard thing to accomplish. Then again, I thought it was pretty hard to muck up mashed potatoes. All in all, I wouldn't go back if left to my own devices, but if asked to go with a group of people again, I guess I would tag along but go with something boring. My overall determination: check your expectations at the door and stick with something simple. The price just doesn't match the expectation. Hopefully your meal experience will be better than mine. read more

One of my favorite places in the area. The fine dining menu is quite good and usually pretty consistent. The bar is a great place to hang out for a few hours. A good sign about this place is that much of staff has been there for years. This translates into a friendly welcome, and also means the management treats the staff well, which I find is a good indication of how they treat their guests too. read more

The Red Oak Grille is located in the New Jersey National Golf Club. So obviously I was there only as a consequence of playing golf at NJ National. I was being kindly treated to this even (golf & dinner) by one of my clients. The location is very nice as you can either dine inside or outside on their terrace which overlooks the golf course. I wanted to order the Oyster Bingo (Fried Oysters, back in the shell with lemon beurre blanc and Salsa Fresca) but they were out. So I decided to go with the Mediterranean soup, Basil Risotto Balls (Deep fried, with roasted pepper rouille) and Meatball sliders (meatballs, marinara sauce, mini brioche buns, Parmigiano Reggiano, Arugula, and French fries). The soup was okay. Fries were salty. That being said, the Risotto balls were surprisingly good as were the meatball sliders. The prices are reasonable. The ambiance is warm, cozy and comfortable. Great for a date. A good place to eat after a round of golf, assuming you won the bets. read more

The country club had the typical country club atmosphere and the Red Oak Grille is the typical country club restaurant in this country club. The atmosphere here is great though! The indoor area has a very luxurious feel to it and the outside patio has a grand view over one of the holes. I ordered the scallops and pasta. Delicious! However, though I know scallops are expensive, I wish I could have received more than four small ones. I know the chef could have prepared the dish with a few more. Also, they serve oyster po'boys here! I'm from New Orleans and I know po'boys well. This place will be a close option for po'boys while away and in New Jersey. Overall good experience though the price point is higher than the expected value of the food which was expected at this golf course restaurant. read more

This is a cozy, little place to dine or get drinks. Beautiful decor, clean, comfortable and indoor and outdoor seating options. The food is average, some dishes better than others. If you're a vegetarian, eat before you go because they have virtually nothing on the menu which is vegetarian-friendly and they didn't (as any fine dining establishment would) offer to ask the chef what he could prepare for me with out meat. I ended up eating the fried avocados (awful) and the mushroom risotto (awesome). The desserts are great and the staff is super friendly. Absolutely breathtaking views from the patio and surprisingly good food. My wife and I hosted our rehearsal dinner here with 50 of or nearest and dearest. Jason, the food and beverage manager, was great to deal with on all of the logistics beforehand, and accommodating to our various requests. The food, as said, was better than expected for buffet fare, and they ended up putting out more than we expected to get. Service was attentive, and they stuck to our requests of keeping the drinks beer and wine only. The views at sunset onto the golf course are absolutely amazing. The only thing I might say is that at $41 a person, plus 20% tip and tax, it is a bit expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for given the quality of the food, ambiance, and service. For anyone looking to host an event, you cannot go wrong with this place. read more

I have been to 5 star restaurants in NYC where they MAY have a right to be a BIT stuck-up (if I must grant this privilege to anyone) and at Red Oak Grille, it makes no sense. Now to food.. ALSO a 3. I had the fries--- they were tasty but the black truffle oil was a bit overbearing so I did wish they had an option for sea salt cut fries OR the black truffle fries because I think its an acquired taste. I had a mexican salad with one shrimp.. YES one shrimp because on top of the $16, they were charging $4 for a shrimp that tasted like something I could get anywhere else. The salad had no real taste and was not something I would recommend to anyone (and a reason enough to recommend not coming here at all). You expect flavor in a "mexican" salad- but fail. The people who had the burgers commented that they liked theirs. So, if you do go, order the burgers. The last thing I can comment on is our waitress- she would disappear for literally 15-20 minutes at a time. Where are you going and what are you doing? She was pleasant for the most part dealing with our large group but when we say we need a few more minutes to decide, dont come back 15-20 minutes later. I will not be back personally since it didn't have many options for vegetarians. read more

This dish was off the charts inventive and savory! Wow! I had to pace myself it was so flavorful! Red green and yellow tomato's blanched then sauteed, calamata olives, crab with crispiness and crunch yet flavorful and juicy... I could go on but don't miss this outdoor dining experience! The waitress was watchful yet not intrusive, friendly and the wait for food worth it. We left when the off Rock band began, they'd die better with some good guitar instrumentation . *2.5 STARS* I had been around this area for a couple of years and had no idea this place existed. Located in the New Jersey National Golf Club its not much of a hidden "gem". We sat outside with a great view of um, the golf course. It was a nice night so a welcomed breeze was refreshing. The hostess was very friendly and accommodating. On our way outside you notice the dark decor and welcoming atmosphere. The bar has several seats but tends to get busy. They even have the occasional band (which was setting up as we were leaving) and even a DJ supposedly. Once seated it wasn't very busy and the waitress was prompt to ask us for our drink selection. We started out with the Thai calamari. They weren't too bad but they were a little light on the dressing. A bit chewy and bread-y but otherwise edible. The app came within a few minutes of ordering but the main dish took a while...and we waited...and waited...and finally after what seemed to be a long time our meals came out. I had the Chipolte chicken sandwich with a side salad. The unfortunate part is the salad was the best part. The chicken didn't taste fresh. I actually took off all the chicken and just had the bread and bacon. BUT....the dessert made up for what the entree lacked. The chocolate Tiramisu is exceptional. Creamy with iced chocolate...oooo so perfect. AMBIANCE: Great view, relaxing crowd. SERVICE: Nice but spotty. FOOD: Apps and dessert seem to be the common consensus. PRICES: Not bad for location. Had dinner after a round of golf. I've been here once before but it's been a while so don't remember what I got but this time, we got one order of buffalo wings and burgers. The wings were not too wet but had a great flavor. We also got burgers which were good. Flavorful with brioche rolls. You can add on more things to the burger for extra. We stopped here for lunch after a visit to the USGA Museum on our way to Saratoga. It is about 5 minutes away from the museum, and at the New Jersey National Golf Club. My husband is the BEST at researching things to do, and see, and places to eat when we are traveling. This definitely is one of his better choices. Both of our lunches were terrific. He had a house salad and the mussel app. I had a side salad and a blackened shrimp wrap. His comment was that "everything is really good". My salad - smaller version of his - was excellent, Very fresh greens, an abundance of tomatoes, and a tasty house dressing. My wrap was outstanding. The ingredients made an excellent mix. There were nice size, perfectly cooked shrimp, fresh corn, black beans and a very flavorful sauce. I am not normally a wrap fan because of the amount of empty tortillas at the ends. This, however, had been finished on a grill or panini press. I ate every last bit. Definitely a great choice for lunch. read more

I had low expectations going in which helped me enjoy the meal. I would say to keep it simple when ordering, there is NO need to order the expensive entrees - they are not worth it. Overly salted scallops on a bed of overly sweet squash puree. Everything was a litte heavy nanded. The Chicken soup was pretty good and priced correctly. The calamari was good - get the thai sauce on the side because it is very sweet. Our waitress Shaun was lovely and pretty attentive - as was the rest of the wait staff, refilling my water glass which is important to me. A fairly generous pour of wine and interesting gelato choices make it a good place for burgers - I might give it 2.5 stars if I could because the bathroom was clean and that matters to me! read more

Rarely am I compelled to write a review, but my experience at the Red Oak Grille was so wonderful that I have to share! We received a recommendation and decided to stop in while visiting family in New Jersey recently. Everyone was incredibly friendly and accommodating and the server took care to point out some fantastic options for the table to enjoy. We started with the Thai calamari and the house made guacamole, which we devoured with enthusiasm. We could've ordered more appetizers, but opted to save room for the main dishes and we're glad we did! The portions were extremely generous! Between our group we had the Jail Island Salmon, the Filet Mignon, and the Shrimp Spaetzle. Everything was phenomenal and we all found ourselves nibbling from one another's plates. The manager Jason is quite rude and does a disservice to the place because the wait staff are quite nice . The food is barely edible and pricey . Food is amazing but my experience wasn't too nice. Leaving to Texas the next day so we decided to go eat there since it was a little bit closer to home. Well two kids that were only five years old were playing Roblox on their iPads the older couple next to the table weren't enjoying the kids playing especially since they were screaming a tad. So the woman decided to come up to my table and yell at the kids saying you are ruining everybody's evening you should not yell because some people are trying to to eat. All the kids were crying because of the way the woman talk then the parents said if you have a problem with the kids their kids they do not understand but the woman kept on rage and she called the kids and animals and then his husband her husband I suppose started talking with bad language in front of the kids saying that you should not talk to my wife and kept saying a lot of bad things recommend the food but be aware of rude people. When the waitresses tried to calm down the man offered the kids some free ice cream. Nice employees. read more
