It was interesting - we arrived at opening, and were the only patrons... except for about 50 beautifully dressed women! Apparently there were two large parties, one a wedding shower and the other a bachelorette party. And us. The ambiance is great. The place exudes a sort of sophisticated charm, the kind of feel you only get in old, established places with great food and great reputations. Our waitress was impeccable, well informed, and right on point. I ordered red lentil soup to start, and a turkey burger. Beautiful venue with lovely grounds, seating area and separate bar. We attended a wedding there and the grounds and weather were perfect for a late May event. The food was amazing and everything was served on time, well prepared and hot. After the adding some folks headed to the bar which was small but cozy. The drafts of Guinness were perfect for a night cap before we walked across the lot to the inn. Good distance floor was greatly enjoyed. Stopped at this restaurant on a 5 hour trip to grab breakfast. We were seated quickly around brunch hours on a Saturday at a beautiful little hotel off the highway. We ordered OJ and coffee for drinks and each ordered the farm style eggs prepared anyway, with a breakfast meat and breakfast potatoes. These plates were not worth the $16 bucks charged per plate. The Breakfast potatoes were undercooked and tasteless and the overeasy eggs were actually almost over hard. The Breakfast meat was delicious, to be fair. The waiter never refilled any of our drinks, so we only had one drink the entire meal and the bill was close to $100. Not worth the money or service. UPDATE: after updating my review from 1 star for anti-semitic Jew jokes and the bartender verbally harassing my gf, to 4 stars for the manager taking accountability, I am reverting my review back to 1 star! The reason being the manager asking me to take my review down and claiming I poured myself a beer from behind the bar, which never happened. I know this is a lie because he claims people showed up "later" at the bar which isn't true since we were the only people who were there until it closed. Don't give these people your hard earned money. But waiting for the bill at the end seemed like an eternity. When the server came over and asked about dessert and coffee, I quickly replied that we just needed the bill. The Grain House is always a good choice for an upscale lunch. I get the same thing every time --Shrimp BLT--and I enjoy every bite. The salads here are fresh and delicious. They make a nice cappuccino. I make my reservation through the app Open Table and have always been seated right away. I enjoy the historic building and charm of the old wood and stone construction. The interior is classy with formal place settings and cloth napkins. Most diners dress up a little to eat here. Staff is calm, polished, and polite. Parking is free in a big lot. The outside patio is pleasant too. The restaurant is easy to access right off of Route 287. read more

My first impression was that I liked the ambiance of this old, country-style inn. And the service was deccent. However, I was pretty disappointed by the offerings at their Mother's Day brunch. It was VERY expensive, and then half the menu items they had advertised weren't even there. It was typical buffet food in warmers, not the elegant food advertised on their website. And then weird stuff was missing like you couldn't even get a bagel or some toast. Coconut shrimp? I can get that from the diner or pizza place. The mushroom ravioli in cream sauce were pretty good. We dined here last week while staying at the Olde Mill Inn next door for our 2 year anniversary. Everything from the food to the service was fantastic! Laura and Dave both took care of us, making sure we had an absolutely perfect time celebrating & made us feel right at home. We dined in what I assume was the "pub" part of the restaurant and the ambience was very cozy, perfect for a wintery date night. We shared the calamari, a caesar salad, the halibut (WOW!) and a NY strip, with their special pumpkin creme brûlée for dessert along with a lovely bottle of red wine. We visited this restaurant for lunch because we had a wedding at the Olde Mill Inn later that afternoon. Overall I loved the ambiance of this restaurant inside and out. It had an old restored Barn feeling to me but was extremely cozy and romantic and we loved the area with the Coppertop Pub. We arrived shortly after they opened at 11: 30 and we were seated at a table by the pub and the fireplace was roaring. There were already two tables occupied in that area but it was a quiet atmosphere. Our server came over, Alyson, she very friendly, had a great disposition and she told that she was new but she was a very good server, very attentive, was constantly smiling and we were extremely happy with her being our waitress. I felt the drink menu and the food selection had a lot of options to choose from. We were given two standard plastic menus but on each table was a leather binder showing everything they offered from wine to cocktails and even non-alcoholic drinks. I ordered the Cal Caesar salad with grilled chicken. My husband ordered the Olde Mill Burger. My husband is a hamburger connoisseur and he's probably ordered 300 burgers throughout different restaurants; I was shocked when he said (at the end of the meal) that this was probably the best burger that he ever had- he said there was not one bad bite in this burger. For drinks we ordered the Grey Goose filthy Martini which came with blue cheese stuffed olives- absolutely delicious! We did not order dessert as far as sweets, but I ordered the hot pumpkin coffee and my husband ordered an espresso martini, both were absolutely delicious. So I'm not big on the bad reviews. We went here for an anniversary lunch for my parents. We had reservations and figured it would be a pretty standard lunch. The lunch/brunch menu is really nice. Lots of options and really you could bring kids here. They could find something. It's St. Patrick's Day weekend so they had some specials. Nothing crazy corned beef and cabbage, lamb stew and fish & chips. We all ordered from the straight menu, except my Dad he had the corned beef. Our waitress was lovely. But, the service was extremely slow. By the time the food came, I really wanted to just leave. I had a burger, my son got French Toast, my sister a turkey club and my Mom a corned beef sandwich. Everything was cold. It had been sitting in the window. My son's French toast was really soggy. My burger was bloody and on a stale roll. Nobody ate. Except my Dad. Everyone my sister, son and mother got ice cream then we left. We were there a little over 2 hours for a meal that we should have been there for less than an hour. Again the waitress was nice, but it didn't make up for the experience. I wouldn't go back. Plenty of places like it close by that are better. read more

We had our wedding party at The Grain House, back in 2014... and since then, the food, overall quality (and temperature) and service have digressed in a MAJOR way!!! I personally called Lindsay at the Olde Mill Inn to request that she could get us into there for their famous Easter Sunday Brunch, and to be honest and blunt, she was a complete and total snob... Almost pretentious and/or obnoxious (to say the least). She advised me that aside from two off-hour time slots (9am and 3pm), she only had availability for the 2 of us at The Grain House at a good time (11:45am), but according to her, the brunch was 100% identical to that of the Olde Mill Inn... Which it definitely was NOT! The service was very slow, and not the least bit attentive whatsoever... 90% of the food options were either cold or lukewarm, at best. It took 20 minutes to get coffee and iced tea refills, and sorry to say, this was by far, the biggest disappointment and/or rip-off we have ever encountered/experienced, anywhere! Over $200+ for 2 of us, for Easter Sunday Brunch... Absurd. If the food was hot, and the service was a bit more attentive, it would still be quite high in price... But for this overall dining experience (on Easter), it was deplorable. We will not be returning to The Grain House and/or The Olde Mill Inn, ever again. And to Lindsay, you just lost 2 fairly long-time customers, for life. Shame on you! Not the least bit recommended to anyone. read more

This was a wonderful venue for my daughter's bridal shower. The inn was very intimate, and the food was hot, as well as delicious. Kate Rooney was a very helpful sales manager; she was responsive through the whole process of inquiry to the day of my daughter's shower. The private patio room off our meeting area is beautiful, too. Alexandra was the lead staff member for our party, and she did a fabulous job of organizing and executing the tasks for the shower. We've become weekly regulars here with our 3 1/2 year old for the past two months, and it truly is the only place I enjoy taking her out to dinner (in large part to Dave and Laura) This place has so much character. You can feel the history in the walls and the building itself. Our daughter loves talking to "George" on the way in and in paintings throughout the restaurant. What really makes it special is the people... Dave behind the bar and Laura serving tables aren't just great at their jobs. They've made us feel like family. They remember us (and more importantly our daughter) and they're amazing with our daughter, and they bring a warmth to the experience that you just can't fake. We really enjoy every meal but the drinks quite honestly are never a disappointment. In a world of cookie cutter dining, finding a place with this much heart and authenticity near Morristown is rare. The staff here is exceptional and the kind of team that makes you want to keep coming back, not just for the food, but for the whole experience. read more

The quality and variety of food options were excellent. Food was fresh and quickly replenished. Had something for everyone. Service at tables was prompt and accurate, both providing drinks and having the tables cleared. The decoration is Colonial, but lacks the charm of the adjacent building, which has a horse outside, which is smaller and George Washington did really stay there. Went for NYE. Our table had the bacon wrapped short rib app, lollipop wings, lobster bisque, land & sea entree special, and a classic cheeseburger. We paired all of this with a glass of the sonoma pinot noir. Lobster bisque was okay. The crab meat on the "land & sea" special was drenched in salt and a bit fishy. But the steak was cooked to perfection. Wish it came with a side salad or a bit more asparagus. For dessert we had a slice of the chocolate cake, the flan, & a cappuccino. Our two servers + the manager on duty (Tony) were awesome. Extremely attentive, but also let us "be". We loved the ambiance and fireplace. i was so excited to be going to a Mother's Day brunch at the Grain House. Our reservation was for 1:15, it was not crowded at all, we were kept waiting at the door for some time. We were seated in a downstairs room, the buffet was two small flights of stairs and a long hallway away. one of our party just had a knee replacement. The food was cold cold the heat source, stern-o had not been replaced , the servers were weary and cranky. The buffet was not maintained properly. The deserts on the other hand were divine. At 90- per person, should have been better. So disappointed! Perhaps dinner is better, cannot recommend brunch at all. read more

We made reservations in advance for dinner. We were so warmly greeted upon entry and during our entire dining experience! Fantastic hostess /waitresses. The food was so delicious I had the sautéed sesame Rock BASS and for dessert a hot apple pie. The food was so delicious and so amazing and so flavorful. I love my fish and my pie. I recently held a small private event at the Grain House. It was a really great experience. Their event expert Lindsay was wonderful to work with and helped ensure that all preparations were complete. The staff supporting us on the day of the event were great-- they provided excellent service without feeling intrusive. The food was delicious and several of our guests noted how good some of the dishes were. The grain room was the perfect size for our gathering and was accurate to the specifications listed on the website. The staff was accommodating but hard to find. The food was delicious and staff knew who had each entree without the need to auction off the food. LOVE the historic feel. The low ceilings, the fireplaces, the old windows. Love love love it. Even the bathroom has charm - curtains, a powder room mirror, and carpeting. It even smells old...but in a good way. Almost like a museum restaurant. Sat outside today for a Sunday brunch. They have an excellent brunch menu - something for everyone! They also have fun cocktails: mimosas, espresso martinis, and I also saw some watermelon martini with a slice of watermelon on the brim. This is an underrated location for sure. Had French onion soup and a caesar salad - both we excellent. The soup came in a very cute "cauldron"-like bowl. Service is quick and food came out in a reasonable amount of time. My only complaint is about the bugs. So. Many. Bugs. Okay- I know we are sitting outside in a garden on a patio in the summer- but there were ants, flies, and small bugs everywhere. (the area with the Fireplace and bar) clientele was a mix of Young and older types. with no Riff-Raff!! which was great. So many people blasting their phones with videos etc. its Disgusting!!
