Ate there on a Friday night. Very busy with the usual dining plus a party in the back. Even with a reservation, front of the house was confused, couldn't seat is immediately with multiple open tables. Almost like too many cooks. And no one smiling, nor upbeat and happy in greeting us. Good was goof to very good. Solid plus, no wow factor. My piece of salmon was not only large but perfectly cooked as requested. Short ribs and a veal Milanese was also ordered and was very good. Veal was tender, short ribs soft as soft could be. We chose to go out for ice cream even though they had some decent options. And given how busy it was, I wasn't even sure who our main server was. No one came over during the meal to ask how we were going. And at the end the server was different than who we started with and it took forever to flag someone down for the check. Food was a 4, but everything else we encountered brought the overall experience to a 3. I'm new to the area so if and when I'd be happy to go back and hopefully have another good meal with better service - more attention! read more

Fried Calamari was ice cold. Meals took FOREVER to come out. I had the paparadelle bolognese. More than half of the noodles were stuck together, hard and inedible. How the chef could put that in the bowl and serve it to a customer is mind boggling. I would've sent it back except not one of our 3 different waiters stopped to ask anyone how our meals were. Someone else in our party ordered the same thing and hers was the same way as mine. The restaurant feels more on the upscale side but the hostess was wearing sweatpants and the waiters all wear black puffer vests. It was very odd. With the door opening every 30 seconds everyone in the restaurant basically was freezing during dinner. The worst part is when talking to the manager/owner about it he was extremely rude and even aggressive. The manager encouraged me to give me a zero review. He didn't care. Shame on you in treating your customers like this. Food was also terrible and twice we found hair in our food. Is anyone wearing hair nets in this kitchen? Kudos for the pleasant outdoor, enclosed and heated pavilion for a more spacious and pleasant dining experience. However, their fair prices for the Bernardsville neighborhood have generated an increased level of popularity that is now negatively affecting the dining experience. The indoor dining area floor plan has been maximized to capacity for the greatest number of tables possible. This has created a congested, noisy and potentially unhealthy environment. I would avoid this place on Friday and Saturday nights. In a struggle to meet the demands of its growing number of guests, much of the food is not cooked to order, and therefore diners must strategize when selecting their choices, as to what must be made fresh, such as the salads, ravioli, and some desserts. The items with longer cooking time such as the Osso Bucco, Veal Valdostana, Short Ribs, Lasagna and risotto, I would not recommend. The salads and ravioli are outstanding and delicious. Most of the desserts are great too. But you may experience an unreasonable delay when transitioning from dinner to dessert. If you do choose to dine here, I'd recommend asking to be seated in their outdoor heated enclosed pavilion. It is far more pleasant than inside. Parking is for the most part limited to on the street and near the train station paid via an app. The staff is friendly but inconsistent and not always available or able to keep up with the crowded dining room demands. read more

My sister and mom ate here for a little birthday celebration lunch. We shared fresh ravioli for an appetizer and had the tri-color salad, tuna special, and chicken truffle sandwich. There was so much to love here. The only reason it's not a 5-star rating is because of my entree. The specials list was awesome and immediately makes you question what you were planning to order off the main menu. We started with the fried calamari - it was crispy and hot and the spicy marinara was awesome. My husband had the lamb Osso Bucco special with the pea risotto. It was a 5/5! I ordered the "signature chicken Milanese" and it left a little to be desired. The arugula, tomatoes, onion, and mozzarella were super fresh. The chicken was moist but not crispy on the outside - almost as if the chicken cutlets were placed in a heating pan after cooking. The dressing was literally tasteless. Suggestion is to crisp the chicken and to pick an acid-forward dressing - either add lemon juice or balsamic vinegar. We had cappuccinos for dessert and they were perfect! read more

I do not know how long this place has been here, but I did not know about it until just the other night when we came together for dinner. Parking is a somewhat random chance as many places are reserved for other businesses. If they are closed, is that parking available? Well, who knows... The entrance is somewhat weird too, with the door swinging the wrong way up against a railing. At least that seems like it would be something they could fix to at least make a friendlier place out of it. The inside seems to be smallish and the outside area that seems to be added during COVID might be a challenge with the weather, which is mostly no different from anywhere else. Before getting to the food, I would say the one negative thing that stood out was the noise level. For whatever reason, this was one of the highest noise level places I have been to in recent memory. If you are in the mood for a quiet night of conversation over dinner, this is most likely not going to be a great option for you. On to the food. Everything was really outstanding. The BLACK ANGUS FILET MIGNON MEATBALLS - tomato sauce, basil, ricotta, were not the best meatballs I have ever had. Yet the total experience of the starter dish was wonderful to the point where I would certainly have it on a return visit. For the main course, I had the BLACKENED YELLOW-FIN TUNA - wasabi cauliflower puree, spinach soy ginger glaze. This was truly a wonderful dish that made the entire visit memorable. Two final notes... it is BYOB which I do not mind, but come prepared if you want a drink as there is nothing within a reasonable walking distance for a last - minute purchase. We love this Resteraunt! The cozy atmosphere the amazing food are only a couple of the many reasons we come here. Its local vibe really makes you feel as if you know it's going to be a good night. Valentineo is another reason, even when the customer is a little prickly she knows how to "smooth" the edges. Her willingness to please is only surpassed by her very gracious way of making you feel welcomed. Debbie is another wonderful part of the experience. She does NOT disappoint when giving you the specials, in fact she simply is the best! I don't usually leave negative reviews, but after last night's experience, I feel compelled to share. I made a reservation for 8 people two weeks in advance to celebrate my mom's birthday at 7:15 PM. We all arrived on time, only to be told that the table reserved for us was still occupied, and the hostess had no idea when it would be available. After some time, they offered us another table -- outside -- despite the fact that it was 45 degrees and I had elderly family members with me. Sitting in the cold was not an acceptable option, especially given that this was a special occasion we had planned well in advance. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn't improve. The service was poor, the staff seemed inattentive, and overall, it felt like our presence was an inconvenience rather than a valued reservation. I would not recommend this restaurant, especially if you're planning a special event. The lack of organization and basic courtesy was extremely disappointing. read more

Fantastic! I got the French Onion soup and crab cakes, and both were delicious! The French Onion soup looked burnt, but it did not affect the flavor and I enjoyed every last bite. The crab cakes and green beans were also a great dish- pair it with the bread they bring and it is a perfect meal. The server who helped us was funny and helpful, in that curt, NJ kinda way. :) I got an order of the chocolate churros to go so I could share it with some friends I was meeting up with, and OMG, they were phenomenal! We were out in the atrium on a cold November night but there were heaters and it was fine. Service was attentive and food was worth all the calories. Starters included mozzarella and roasted peppers, meatballs and bruschetta. Dinner included salmon, eggplant Parmesan, short ribs and bolognese. Everything was delicious. Both were just not good. The steak ordered medium came out well done with all the compound butter already completely melted. The shrimp pasta was inedible. "We've had it packed on a 90 degree day and everyone was fine!" NOT TRUE. Half that number, extremely hot day and we suffered. It was unbearable. 4 fans, not even moving. We were sweating to death. Main server, forgot his name, was irritated and not pleasant at all. Food was ok. Short Rib Raghu pasta was fine. Chicken dish was an oily concoction. I will say the tiramisu was some of the best I've ever had. But, overpriced for what it was. And after a price was set per person, we were told morning of it would be an additional $3/person for soda, etc. which we later had brought down to one price. Our next course was a chicken grilled Cesar fresh and awesome, short ribs tender and perfect, chicken scarpiello which was flavorful but presentation wasn't the best and rigatoni carbonanara which was not good, bland and lacking sufficient sauce to support the rigatoni. My wife and I dine out several times a month at various restaurants in and around Morris county. Last night we met friends who we have not seen in several months at Bistro 73 in Bernardsville. The food was very good, service was fair, prices were average. However, the noise level was incredibly loud. It was like sitting next to the band at a wedding. We could not have a conversation without shouting. The tables are too close and with a few blowhards, noise levels become extremely high. We all agreed that we would not go back to this venue in the future. Unless you want a headache and no conversation, go somewhere else. My suggestion is that all restaurants need to place a notice on their menus to request all patrons to keep their voices at a normal conversational level. Perhaps that would help. read more

My wife and I had a pretty terrible experience here today. We ordered 2 French Onion soups and split a Bistro Rigatoni. First the soups. Greasy hardly melted cheese and the broth was so so salty. I ate most of mine but my wife sent hers back after one tiny bite. Next we got the Rigatoni. This too was incredibly greasy and the meat was gamey tasting. The sauce again on this was salty and just kind of tasted off. I told the manager about the experience and asked him to at least take one of the soups off the bill (since it was not eaten). He asked what was wrong with it? I told him again everything I mentioned in this review. He then put his hands up in the air and literally said that was not his problem that we didn't like the food and they don't take things off the bill unless their is something wrong with it. Good place for a taste of an Arrogant, Distasteful, and Insulting experience. My wife and I made a pre-Valentine reservation, given the fact that on the 14th things go a bit crazy. The reservation was set for 8:00pm based on the (see pic) 10pm closing time advertised. We were seated upon arrival and our BYOB drink was opened. Although they didn't have our favorite plate, we happily picked two of their appetizers and two of their special main courses: their four cheese ravioli and the lamb rack. After the appetizers, they brought the ravioli: a mushy plate of overcooked pasta with cheese and a plate of COLD lamb chops. I capitalize on purpose because it was either taken from the freezer and not completely microwaved or it was sitting out for too long. We called the waiter and let her know but she called Vicente, the owner, a normally kind and service-oriented guy, who came to our table as if we had done something wrong for (kindly) complaining about our food. I showed him how my wife's ravioli was a such a mush, without hardly any pasta texture, and how my lamb chops and Quinoa/green pea-bedding was too cold. This guy, again, looked at my wife like she had done something wrong and without any apologies or even the kindness of asking her if she wanted a new batch, he yelled "So, what do you want?" you don't want it or not? I'll take it out of the bill". That is it. He looked at me and took my plate to bring it later reheated. Terrible. Terrible. The place was not crowded at all. It was 9:20pm (normal for an 8pm dinner time and returned plates) , we were given the check right then. We were finishing our dinner and my wife's favorite dessert. Suddenly the owner, again, screamed at us saying, "hey, we need to go home. People had a long day today and we need to close". CAN YOU BELIEVE?. I replied saying that they shouldn't take reservations after a certain time if they are so strict on closing at a certain time specially when the site says that they close at 10 not at 9 pm. Or that they could kindly let people know that they were closing early (or at a certain time) so that people would know they only have 45 minutes to eat and go home. He was mean, my wife and I were taken aback with this guy Vicente's behavior. Unacceptable. Not in that community. The place is going the wrong way. There are better choices. Kinder, more respectful. Less arrogant and tasteless. read more
