A nice gentleman brought us waters and then Hunter took care of us. He provided great service. I started with the corn chowder soup. While it was good, it was kind of basic and I had higher expectations for it. I then had the chicken schnitzel which came with a caper sauce, arugula and tomatoes. It was soooo good! If I ordered it again I would ask for some extra of the caper sauce. My mom had a burger that came with fresh cut fries and my dad has the steak and eggs. I really appreciate how they strive to incorporate locally-sourced ingredients in the menu whenever possible; you can definitely taste the freshness. I also have to mention that their seasonal cocktail menu is definitely worth checking out. Since it's in season, we started with the freshly flash-fried asparagus tempura ($15) appetizer. It was very tasty and well-presented, with a portion size was perfect for sharing. For my entrée, I ordered the tempura shrimp bowl ($27), a southwestern-inspired dish with four perfectly fried tempura shrimp over a bed of frisee and farro, topped with charred corn and avocado. It was incredibly tasty and way more filling than I expected. My dining companion selected the jambalaya ($28), a cajun-inspired treat packed with shrimp, andouille sausage, and chicken. She absolutely loved it and brought half of it home to enjoy for lunch the next day. A special shout-out to our server, Chris. Even though he's only been there a few days, he was fantastic and made us feel like guests for a meal in his home -- attentive, friendly, and totally on top of everything. Asking the wait staff about it we are informed many regulars will always choose to eat in the barroom. We dined at a nice table on the main floor of what appears to be a converted residence of two floors. We felt it was a very lovely setting with very attentive staff and ample parking in their dedicated lot to the side and rear. We started with the caviar tasting and a half bottle of one of their several NV French champagnes. These were expertly presented. A constructive criticism would be to add more than the crème fraiche and petite pancakes as accoutrements. However, this small tasting was otherwise a really pleasant opening. For appetizers my wife chose the wild shrimp, which were excellent and I went with the corn chowder, which was likewise top notch. For the main my wife chose the burger with fries and I chose two additional appetizers, the short rib tortellini and the crab cake. All of these impressed when paired with a half bottle of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The tortellini were the standout of these and wished a full order was offered as a main and not just available as a small appetizer. I'll add the bread offerings with room temperature butter were a pleasing start. However, being sated after the aforementioned courses we skipped desserts. Seriously, cannot fathom the few very negative reviews and suggest those be dismissed to allow you to try the place for yourself.
