We've been eyeing this place for a while when we're up at West Hill and today we finally stopped for coffee and some sweet treats. My husband had a cold brew and I had a decaf latte with almond milk. Initially started as a wholesale distributor, Giv just celebrated their 1st year of business at their retail location here in Canton! Despite being a cute and cozy shop, Giv manages to hold a roaster, small baking area, coffee bar and indoor and outdoor seating. On my most recent visit I had their freedom blend, a great medium-roast blend that is the perfect balance between body and flavor! Prices are very reasonable. Earlier today I had the luxury of experiencing a tasting with Jeff the owner and I was considerably impressed, so much so that we left with over 20 pounds of various beans to sample over the next month, we are very much looking forward to working with Giv in upgrading our coffee program! Your order: A large cold brew latte, not too much ice. The reason: it is absolutely delicious and not as much ice allows you to get every drop worth in this cup of coffee. I have only tried a couple of cold brews from different shops, but Giv's hands down gives you the best, with the perfect portion of milk. No sugar or syrups are needed. At all. Do not detract from the outstanding taste by adding anything. You're welcome. Giv gives, which I love, with two dollars of each bag of coffee beans bought going toward individuals in need. The owners make sure to purchase fair trade beans so coffee farmers are paid what they should for their crops. Though I was not completely sold the first time I stopped in, I gave Giv another chance and have found one of the best cups of coffee around. When I first visited, I tried a mocha and found it to have way too much syrup. I was shy to try anything else, thinking I only really liked coffee with a flavor. I loved the comfortable atmosphere of the shop, with big chairs and a high top counter looking at the roaster. I was impressed by the kindness of the barista--who actually brought my mocha right to me at the bar at the roaster room's window. I wanted to like everything about Giv, but, at the time, I left thinking perhaps this shop is better for just plain coffee and not a sweetened version. I had not been back for a couple of months. Until today. I now have no idea why I did not come back sooner. After seeing a picture of the cold brew latte on Instagram and reviews noting the cold brew was good, I decided to try again, keeping in mind the plainer coffee thought. When I walked into the shop this afternoon, I was met by a heavenly fragrance. Fresh beans were being roasted right in the shop. The barista was extremely friendly and served up my cold brew latte quickly. My only problem with it: there was slightly too much ice. I did not realize I would love it so much until my cup of almost all ice was empty. It has left me wanting more. It was perfect in flavor and was not too heavy. Perfect deliciousness. I was able to sip while watching a barista sat at the roaster while the beans were being worked to perfection. Thank you, Giv, for making me a cold brew latte addict. I will admit that I am. I'm excited to make this coffee place my new local as we recently moved in right nearby. The shop is smaller than I expected but seemed cozy and quiet enough to work on a recent weekday morning. The coffee was delicious - I had a latte and it was delightfully sweet from just the steamed milk. I got two pastries for the sake of being comprehensive - a financier and a scone - and have to admit I preferred the scone. Financiers are my particular favorite and I was a bit disappointed with Giv's rendition. Have to admit that my favorite version is the one at Hartford Baking Co. One of two coffee places I will give a 5-star rating to in the Hartford area. I visited Giv several times over the summer and had mostly good experiences. They provide a quality product. They buy quality green coffee and roast it to an approachable medium to medium-light. This comes from someone who used to be a specialty roaster. Their Buckeye Burundi was quite tasty even if the person who rang me up was completely clueless about it (4/5 with that in mind). I appreciate that you can actually have drinks in "for here" porcelain or glass. Very few cafes went back to this option after COVID and it made them sloppy. Not the case here. Drinks were on point. The food is tasty and the cafe is cozy. It is easy to see why this is a favorite. read more

Cool shop in Canton, great for hanging out. I had a spare couple of hours while I waited for some kids I was babysitting to be done with a birthday party down the road, and the baristas were totally cool with me setting up shop with a book for awhile. That seems obvious, but there are definitely cafes where I've felt pressured to get another drink or a pastry just to stay. I'd just drunk a cappuccino, made with Giv's espresso beans, at a local restaurant, so I headed over to the source. Walking into the small, blue house that is Giv, I noticed two large peanut butter cookies, recently baked. I scoffed those up right away, though other sweets in their case looked delicious. (The cookies were big, $1 each and very good!) My son's chai latte was delicious and my dark roast coffee was phenomenal. Their 3/4 pound whole bean bags of coffee were nearly depleted, but they roast and bag again each Tuesday and I was invited back for that! The service is warm and not that stuffy or snobby type that I've sometimes been intimidated by in some shops. You'll love this! Go to Giv! read more

My husband, our toddler, and I stopped for breakfast. We had a waffle, an egg sandwich, and 2 dark roast coffees - all for $15. The coffee was the best I've had in a long time. A nice nutty taste. They only seemed to serve small coffees though and I'm not sure if they do free re-fills. The waffle was absolutely delicious- a sort of sour dough taste that went great with the bits of brown sugar in them and syrup on top. My only complaint was it was small - about the size of my hand. I could've easily eaten 2 waffles on my own. The egg sandwich was pretty good but not really big. They topped it with chipotle sauce, which had a little kick and kind of overpowered the rest of the sandwich. I'd probably ask for sauce on he side next time. Overall the atmosphere was fun and cozy. There isn't a lot of seating - maybe 5 small tables and some window bench seating. It was a really good meal but next time I'd order more food. read more

I want to love this place, I really do! But I can't. I waited for months for them to open, excited that we were getting a local roaster where I could support a Canton business. The atmosphere is nice, the service is friendly and helpful--but the coffee is just BAD--and crazy expensive. They charge $12+ for 12 ounces of bitter coffee--(so more than $16+ for a pound) and it's not even organic! Please lower the prices and figure out where your roasting is going wrong. I would LIVE in there. read more
