Old Cider Mill is open 5 days a week, from September to early November. Don't come too late, or you will miss out on all of their fun offerings. They are known for primarily two things, their apple fritters and their apple cider, both are homemade and very fresh. We enjoyed the hot apple cider on this pretty cold fall day. The apple fritters are good, but not a go to for me. They are crispy on the outside, while being warm and soft on the inside. They have a little store with all sorts of types of local honey, maple syrup, candles, cookies, and many more goodies. Adjacently you will find a little petting zoo. Admission is $1, and food for the animals is also $1. They gave us a stick of about 12 inches which has a plastic lid attached to it. The purpose is to put the food on it to reach the animals. This was far too short. In particular the little kids who were bending them selves in half and the donkeys who were extending their necks to their full ability to reach the food, to no avail. The alpacas and the donkeys were very cute. They have some trucks for little kids to climb on. This was a fun way to spend some time doing fall activities.

It is one of the 10 oldest family farms in Connecticut. The farm has essentially been in the Woodford Family throughout its 350+ year existence. The current owner for the past 20+ years is Christopher Carville, whose mother was Janet Woodford Carville. At one time the farm was 350 acres, but today it is a much more manageable 77 acres. The farm used to raise animals and was once an award-winning dairy farm. Today the Pickin' Patch earns a living from its fruits and vegetables. Pumpkins are the farm's biggest crop, but the farm also offers squash, gourds, mums, tomatoes, and other various types of fresh produce. My family and I have visited the Pickin' Patch a couple of times over the years. It's a great place to visit in the Autumn. If you need pumpkins then you will find a huge selection here. You can pick out a pumpkin right outside the country store or you can grab a wheelbarrow and head straight to the Pumpkin Patch to find the most perfect pumpkin. My wife and I had a nice "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"-themed photo shoot in the pumpkin patch with our son who was dressed as Linus. Afterwards we explored the store where you can find plenty of fresh produce, apple cider, pies, fresh honey, and various jellies, jams and sauces. Bakery Boys food stand is parked at The Pickin' Patch during the Autumn. Customers can get fried dough, deep-fried oreos, apple fritters, donuts, hot chocolate, hot or cold cider, coffee, lemonade, and other tasty treats. We couldn't leave without getting a bag of their delicious apple fritters. The Pickin' Patch is always a great place to visit in Autumn!

The farm store had jams, jellies, apples, gourds, cookies, veggies, pumpkins, mums, hot sauces, etc. They had wheelbarrows for you to use, if you're planning to buy a few big pumpkins. They also had an apple fritter/donut/cider stand. I purchased half a dozen of apple fritters for $8; you can add extra cinnamon sugar. Those apple fritters looked like donut holes but tasted like apple donuts, it was very splendid! Overall, a great spot to stop by if you're into the small town farm vibes. There was a beautiful view of the Heublein tower on the hill and the fall foliage. It's the perfect fall activity!

The brewery barn serves delicious beers and a couple of cocktails. The restrooms were clean. There were plenty of seating outside; picnic tables, chairs, fire pits, and even a play area for the kids. There was a tire swing and some tire obstacles. There is a farmhouse that is used as an Airbnb too. They also have a horse barn and offer pony rides for a fee. It is kid-friendly and dogs are allowed on a leash and outside. We went on Sunday and a band was setting up to perform. They were also grilling some food. I've been in the winter and in the autumn, both times were fun but it is better when it's warmer out so you can sit outside. The seating inside can be limited on a cold and busy day. The service was always good too. One issue was, the bees were rampant; the beer tender said it's because they were using cinnamon sugar rim on the pumpkin beers lol. The customer service was pretty good too. Overall, a pretty good liquor store!

There were plenty of free on-street parking when we went. Since moving to the town of Canton, I have been meaning to make a trip. This past Sunday on Labor Day weekend, I finally made it. There was live music. The market was full of people shopping and vendors. There were produce, British baked goods, mushroom coffee and jerky, maple syrup, books, art, soap, shirts, jewelry, etc. There were plenty of vendors selling all their goodies. We visited each stand and enjoyed shopping and window shopping. We purchased cookies from Calos cookies, scones from the British stand, and maple lollipops from another stand. The Cow's Coop brought a baby cow (calf); it was so cute. After, we went to get coffee at LaSalle's and walked around the town. The weather was perfect, the vendors were friendly, I look forward to going back and supporting more small businesses.

There is just something about Collinsville that resonates with me -it has a laid back Bohemian Hippie Vibe that is hard to put into words. Maybe its the dozens of happy pooches that wander around. Maybe its the ultra friendly vendors. Maybe its the drop dead gorgeous scenery as you look over the Crown and Hammer. Maybe it's all the bicyclists and joggers that are everywhere. Maybe its all that granola and nuts and seeds and tie dye. It's like hard to explain, man..... We bought some corn, and a pizza and biscottis from Collinsville bakery. There are quite a bit of vendors here, most definitely more than when we started patronizing the Market a few years ago. Beautiful fresh produce is available from dozens of stands, plus meats, baked goods, herbs, eggs, you name it. It's a wonderful way to spend a few hours on a Sunday Summer afternoon.
