When looking up fall activities to due with kids, Old Cider Mill popped up in multiple recommendations on social and on the web. Folks it isn't just another farm where you can snag a pumpkin. Old Cider Mill is one of the OLDEST operating cider mill in the U.S. Yes, in the entire U.S, opening operations in the 1870s. This cider mill is situated on a cute little farm called Riverview Farms. Its important to know that if you are looking for a large farm where you can all day "pick your own", corn mazes, and more, this place isn't it. But I found this place a cute destination that has a few things to do with my toddler for 1-2 hrs. When you pull in to the farm, the old building is literally the first thing you see from the road with gords, pumpkins, apples and more spread out to purchase. Very similar to an open layout farmers market. A lot of the fruits they have for purchase aren't grown by them but are locally grown from the Glastonbury area. The parking is up the side and in the back. There is plenty of parking. Parking is on a wide dirt road with pull in parking on the left and right. I had no issues getting in and leaving. They make FRESH apple fritters and of course apple cider. I got hot apple cider from the food truck they have but id recommend just buying their cold apple cider inside the barn (if you dont want it warm) and BYOC to drink it with the apple fritters from the truck. For me, I wish I did because my daughter did better with drink it from a sippy cup. Where you will spend the bulk of your time and which I thoroughly enjoyed was the petting zoo. The cost to get a cup of animal feed is only a $1 or $2. They also give you a feeding stick to put the feed on so your children do not need to put their hands near the animals mouths. You will NEED cash to do this activity since its so cheap. You can pay at the entrance of petting zoo. If you dont have cash, you can still get tickets/tokens (dont remember what it was) inside their general store found inside the old barn building in the front but you need to purchase other stuff (I think there was a card minimum). There was no ATMs. I planned to purchase homemade stuff inside the store anyways. The petting zoo has all your standard farm animals (chickens, roosters, sheep, goats and more). There is plenty of space inside to move around, so even if its busy, you wont have to wait to feed the animals. The general store is bigger than it looks from the outside as they have like half level room (kind of like a basement that you can go down into with old gift shop stuff). They have hand made crafts, nice decorative stuff, locally made dressings, jams, picked stuff, salsa, and of course, apple based products like donuts (made at another farm), apple cider and more. I'd go here again if I'm on the area as its an easy and cute place to bring your children for a quick 1-2 hrs if you don't want or can invest an entire day to a fall activity. The Old Cider Mill is one of those old historical places located in South Glastonbury"been there forever" which I actually was able to go to back in my grammar school days 50 years ago with my brownie troop to see the actual cider mill press in operation, making fresh apple cider. It's no longer in operation and now the apple cider is brought in from Riverview Farms and sold alongside the famous apple fritters which is not the same. Also there is huge displays of pumpkins of all shapes and sizes along with white pumpkins and gourds available and sold along with scare crows and corn stacks.They draw in a huge crowds on weekends and warned that in addition to the throngs of people clamoring for their Fall fix and Autumn photo opportunity. The traffic congestion goes along with the location. A lot of out of state cars of visitors that come on the weekends for the month of October. Don't be turned off as it's a great place to visit. read more

Went for the apple fritters of course and surprisingly not as oily as last year so that was an improvement. The service is always great and the ambiance is the best. We had a sunny morning and seeing the farm animals and beautiful displays of pumpkins are always a great idea for this season! read more

What a cute farm. It's small But it has a nice little store that sell pumpkins, apples, pies and more. There's an Apple fritter stand right outside that people seem To Love. The Old Cider Mill is one of those "been there forever" places and I seem to recall, 20+ years ago, the actual mill being in operation, but now the cider is brought in from Riverview Farms and sold alongside the famous apple fritters. Those fritters are a huge draw, with huge lines, every weekend. Not life changing, but good, and sold warm from a food truck in wax paper bags, $6 for a half dozen. They also offer cider, cold and hot. Be warned that in addition to the throngs of people clamoring for their Fall fix and Autumn photo ops, the place is swarming with fairly aggressive bees. Parking is a nightmare and, in the words of one harried farm worker, "out of control," as cars with license plates from CT, NY, MA (and seemingly, the entire Eastern Seaboard) vie for any scrap of land resembling a parking space. There is an unpublished overflow lot only accessible after traversing downhill on a very bumpy path that may claim the skid plate off a lower riding vehicle, but once there it's a wide open flat field shared with one picnic table and an unused hayride tractor and wagon. The animals are a big deal and I guess it costs $1 pp to enter the petting zoo, but on the Saturday we visited, the teenaged kid was just waving people through and even allowing a free ice cream cone full of pellets per kid. Definitely use the 'feeding sticks' if you do choose to feed the animals. Those animals know the drill and are not shy about helping themselves to anything you may offer. Pro tip: Chilled cider is available at the store if you don't want to wait in the mega-line for the food truck. Plus, bagged kettle corn in four flavors, including dill pickle! read more

The Old Cider Mill is a historic cider mill that opened in Glastonbury, Connecticut in the 1870s. According to a local claim, it is the oldest still-operating cider mill in the United States. Their biggest seller is sweet apple cider, but they also sell apples, pumpkins, gourds, squash, honey, jellies & jams, and other various Autumn items. One popular item they make are warm apple fritters. My wife and I visited the Old Cider Mill for the first time in October 2019. They have all of the various Autumn items that you would expect to find at a seasonal farm stand. Apparently, they don't actually make commercial cider at the mill anymore because it isn't entirely sanitary. Instead, all of the sweet cider is supplied by Riverview Farms in South Glastonbury. My wife and I purchased some of their delicious apple fritters and washed them down with some hot mulled cider; it made for a delicious Autumn breakfast. There are also some farm animals on the property too. Before leaving, we purchased a half gallon of sweet cider to go. We enjoyed our visit to the Old Cider Mill and hope to return again at some point in the future. read more

I generally stop here a couple times a year. The apple fritters they have in the fall are fresh and hot, and nearly as good as the ones from the Southington apple harvest festival! They're at the food truck behind the main building. At the main store, they sell seasonal items - plants, fruits and veggies, cider. Then there is the petting zoo. Even as an adult I love to grab an ice cream cone full of animal food for $1 and feed the goats, llamas, donkey, and horses! Great stop if you have kids! read more

Apple fritters we're really good. Essentially a glorified, more delicious munchkin haha $6 for a half dozen was just enough for my girlfriend and I. I'd recco this farm more for families VS adults since there's a petting zoo and not much else to explore. Their store is cute and sells farm items like jams, pumpkins, pies but nothing out of the ordinary. If the parking lot, which is def a nightmare due to its size and how poorly people parked when we went, isn't full it's worth the stop. You can buy some non pasteurized fresh pressed natural cider at the store...which is actually sourced from Riverview farms/ Robb's farms ... Half a gallon is about $6.75 ... They run out pretty quick as they don't store too many. Hot baked apple fritters made fresh on site $5 for 1/2 dozen.... Paired with a cup of hot cider, its wat fall is all about. The kids can get upclose and feed the animals at the petting zoo ... Feed available at the store. Llamas, peanut the donkey, goats, pigs, cows, chickens. Right off Main Street, Old Cider Mill has some lovely features, namely the petting zoo with alpaca, goats, cow+calf, pig, pony, and a donkey. For $1, you can feed the animals. (Oh, and I suppose I should mention the turkeys and chickens, too - though they are not as cute.) The mill also includes a comprehensive store with seasonal goods, housewares, wood-carved art pieces, and pumpkins; old tractors, which make great photo opps; and two food trucks including legendary apple fritters. Best apple fritters I ever had! We actually found this gem by accident when we were driving to a nearby winery and we are so glad we stopped by! For $9 we got a dozen apple fritters. First off the service was incredibly fast and the fritters were still nice and warm. The fritters were crispy on the outside and fluffy and full of apples on the inside! I was so impressed. My sister and I were talking about how comparable these fritters are to the ones at the southington apple harvest festival (they are known for their fritters) and we think cider mill surpasses those!! I think we hit this place on an off day - it was raining and the place was deserted. They were not selling the apple fritters, which is why we came. However, the staff was very friendly and they had a large selection of pumpkins and gourds. The petting zoo area looked nice from what we could see from the parking lot....we didn't want to get all muddy going out there in the rain. read more

So, I'd love to give this place 4 stars because their apple fritters are nothing short of amazing, however, I was completely disgusted by the staff working in the small gift shop. Immediately upon walking into the store, a staff member followed behind me and stood directly next to me as I smelled their soaps. I continued to browse, expecting her to move around, and was nonchalant about my new shadow, however, she made sure to stand as close to me as possible as I browsed the store with my son. Know before you go. I've read so many wonderful things and have wanted to take my daughter to the petting zoo for a while. The apple fritters are OK, really nothing special. $4 for a cider at the food truck, you can walk down to the little store and grab significantly more cider for less (definitely feel taken on this one). The food truck also tacks on a hefty fee for using a card. My daughter enjoyed feeding the animals. I knew it was a dollar per person, but then only the kids got a cone of food. Any additional cones were $1. So pretty much there is a chaperone surcharge. The price of the pumpkins was outrageous (we had gotten ours from another local far last weekend, but just seeing the price was sticker shock). The store (at front) offers you so many things like the fresh raw honey, the fresh cider off course, pumpkins n apples, baskets, flavored jams, animal feed (they have a petting zoo) stuff toys.... Etc. I got to sample the fresh cider, they have two versions (pasteurized n unpasteurized). I picked a half gallon of unpasteurized cider for 6.75$ (accept cash n credit cards). I enjoyed my cider just the way it was n finished the whole thing within four days! I loved this fresh cider!
