    Blueberry fritter

Great farmstand with a lovely picnic area. Two of us devoured a whole bag of made-to-order blueberry fritters. So good.

Does it get any better than this? Imagine starting your day with the most delicious hot donuts or fritters. Then you grab a little carton to pick some fresh, ripe strawberries straight from the vine. They're farm fresh and reasonably priced. Then you end your day by ordering a sandwich and enjoying it on one of their picnic tables overlooking the orchard and farm store. The grounds are peaceful and staff are attentive and kind. Dondero has achieved perfection at least in my book.

We frequently stop for lunch here their food is excellent and the farm offers fruit picking in season.

Dondero's is a beautiful orchard with fruit bushes and trees for miles and miles! We picked blueberries, and it was one of the most peaceful and lovely berry picking experiences I have ever had! The people there are so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The two doggies on the orchard are so cute and gentle!! Will definitely return again soon!

We have been loving Dondero Orchards ever since we "discovered" them at the Durham Farmers Market. They bring us back to the market week after week, as we love all of their pickled items - pickles, hot pickles, dilly green beans, pickled cauliflower, and most especially, Not Yo Momma's Cabbage! They also have the best baked goods, from pies to crumbles to cookies and breads. I started following them on Facebook and saw that they were doing an Easter to go dinner special. Since it was just the two of us at home, we decided to go for it. It was $44 for what was stated to be a dinner for 4, but it was easily enough food for 6-8 people. We didn't even make a dent on Easter Sunday, we had plenty of leftovers. Food quality was great, and the reheating was easy as instructions were provided and the food was all in oven ready containers. When we picked up the food, we had a little shopping spree in their shop, picking up baked goods, flowers, and some fresh pierogies - try the ones that have not yo mommas cabbage in them - yum! It was a fun change from the standard pierogies you find elsewhere. They offer lunch and their menu looked amazing! They said they offer breakfast as well in the warmer months. They just added on additional seating and it's in a very tranquil spot in South Glastonbury. Not far from Rose's Berry Farm or Crystal Ridge Winery. Definitely check it out when you're in the area, or make it your destination - it's worth it!

Such a sweet farm and orchard experience. I think we picked the perfect weather day to visit l - sun shining, crisp breeze, golden trees. Gorgeous property! We did a bit of apple picking, bought some fresh squash and so many other baked goodies. Topped with the apple fritters. I think our first time having them and they were delicious. We even took home a Shepards pie for dinner the next day and it was amazing? About to go for a third helping!

Finally...Cuban Cuisine in Glastonbury, CT Not Just a great place to get pies, vegetables, jams, breads and fresh fruits....not just a nice setting to enjoy lunch or dinner at... but most important The first place in Glastonbury to finally bring a real version of "the Cuban Sandwich" to this town and it was excellent (maybe a tad less on the mustard) but overall - I am coming back!

Beautiful settings and even more amazing products and apples! Dondero makes the most amazing Shepard Pies and I will definitely be going back soon for some chicken pot pie. The apple picking experience was lots of fun and the grounds are safe and clean. Come by and say hello to the friendly staff and friendly doggos

I've been to my fair share of pick your own apple orchards around Connecticut but dondero has got to be on the homiest, family-owned feeling orchard of them all. The orchard isn't huge but they have a large variety of apples. When I went in mid October there were at least 10 varieties and some varieties I had never heard of before which was pretty cool. I went on a Saturday around 1:30 and it wasn't too busy surprisingly but the weather wasn't great so that may have been part of the reason why. You can walk directly to the rows of apple trees from the parking lot. All varieties were within 100 ft of the parking lot. And if you didn't want to pick your own, they also sell them at the small shop in the middle of the orchard. The shop is super cute. Lots of homemade goodies like jams, breads, pickled vegetables, donuts, etc. I got an apple cider donut right as they had come out of the kitchen and it was delicious! Very well spiced and so, so moist. A friend of mine had hers after it had cooled and said she wishes she had heated it up so... Take note! I've heard their apple fritters are really good as well but I didn't try them this time around. Pro tips: They don't take card for transactions under $20 so bring cash accordingly. They don't provide free bags to carry apples you pick so either bring your own or you can buy a bag for 50¢

When looking up fall activities to due with kids, Old Cider Mill popped up in multiple…read morerecommendations on social and on the web. Folks it isn't just another farm where you can snag a pumpkin. Old Cider Mill is one of the OLDEST operating cider mill in the U.S. Yes, in the entire U.S, opening operations in the 1870s. This cider mill is situated on a cute little farm called Riverview Farms. Its important to know that if you are looking for a large farm where you can all day "pick your own", corn mazes, and more, this place isn't it. But I found this place a cute destination that has a few things to do with my toddler for 1-2 hrs. When you pull in to the farm, the old building is literally the first thing you see from the road with gords, pumpkins, apples and more spread out to purchase. Very similar to an open layout farmers market. A lot of the fruits they have for purchase aren't grown by them but are locally grown from the Glastonbury area. The parking is up the side and in the back. There is plenty of parking. Parking is on a wide dirt road with pull in parking on the left and right. I had no issues getting in and leaving. They make FRESH apple fritters and of course apple cider. I got hot apple cider from the food truck they have but id recommend just buying their cold apple cider inside the barn (if you dont want it warm) and BYOC to drink it with the apple fritters from the truck. For me, I wish I did because my daughter did better with drink it from a sippy cup. Where you will spend the bulk of your time and which I thoroughly enjoyed was the petting zoo. The cost to get a cup of animal feed is only a $1 or $2. They also give you a feeding stick to put the feed on so your children do not need to put their hands near the animals mouths. You will NEED cash to do this activity since its so cheap. You can pay at the entrance of petting zoo. If you dont have cash, you can still get tickets/tokens (dont remember what it was) inside their general store found inside the old barn building in the front but you need to purchase other stuff (I think there was a card minimum). There was no ATMs. I planned to purchase homemade stuff inside the store anyways. The petting zoo has all your standard farm animals (chickens, roosters, sheep, goats and more). There is plenty of space inside to move around, so even if its busy, you wont have to wait to feed the animals. The general store is bigger than it looks from the outside as they have like half level room (kind of like a basement that you can go down into with old gift shop stuff). They have hand made crafts, nice decorative stuff, locally made dressings, jams, picked stuff, salsa, and of course, apple based products like donuts (made at another farm), apple cider and more. I'd go here again if I'm on the area as its an easy and cute place to bring your children for a quick 1-2 hrs if you don't want or can invest an entire day to a fall activity. Check out of your Connecticut historical destinations and visit Old Cider Mill.

It's no longer in operation and now the apple cider is brought in from Riverview Farms and sold alongside the famous apple fritters which is not the same. Also there is huge displays of pumpkins of all shapes and sizes along with white pumpkins and gourds available and sold along with scare crows and corn stacks. They draw in a huge crowds on weekends and warned that in addition to the throngs of people clamoring for their Fall fix and Autumn photo opportunity. The traffic congestion goes along with the location. A lot of out of state cars of visitors that come on the weekends for the month of October. Don't be turned off as it's a great place to visit.

In any event, there was a good mix of farm vendors and specialty food vendors like More Pasta Lab, Pan de Oro Chips, Granny's Pie Factory, Ovelle Coffee Roasters and Whisked by Dani. There were at least a couple of food trucks. We bought some cookies, chips, and vegetables. It's definitely a market worth checking out if you're in the general Wethersfield area. 4 Stars

It was very manageably sized, with plenty of vendors, but not enough to make our visit unmanageable. We strolled the grounds, taking in the sites, and enjoying the live music being performed. With vendors selling a wonderful variety of Fruits, Vegetables, Meats, Dairy, Flowers, salsas, chips, baked goods, Italian ice, cheese, coffee, and pasta, you could easily plan a week's worth of meals right here. If you want pizza, there was a Square Peg Pizza truck on site. Oh, and let's not forget the dozen artisans and craftsmen showing off their hand made creations everywhere. And here's something you don't see at a lot of Farmers Markets - a massage station! We stopped at Whisked By Dani's booth and treated ourselves to two gigantic cookies, then we stopped at the Pan de Oro Chips and Salsa booth and guess what? We picked up a big bag of Mexican Street Corn flavored tortilla chips and two very reasonably priced jars of salsa (just $4 each). The Wethersfield Farmers Market's season ran from May 30, 2024, through October 10, 2024, on Thursdays from 3pm-6pm, so sadly they are done for the year. See you there next May.
