The food is fantastic! Sincerely. Solid flavors and not too heavy. Then . . . there was last night's experience. I called multiple times when the food was late. Each time I was told it was on the way. The way started to feel very long because each time, it was not on the way. When the food arrived, it was cold, had the wrong soft drink and the order was incomplete. This was a shock because their service, quality of food and delivery had been exceptional in the past. When I called to tell them there was a problem, my name and number was taken. I was told the owner would return my call. That never happened. Super disappointed in this experience. Everything I have eaten here is amazing. The only thing I really wasn't a fan of, was their chow mein, but that is only because I don't care for dry chow mein (Egg Roll King has the best IMHO). Other than that, top drawer stuff were talking here. The crab and cream cheese won tons are delicious. The soups are fantastic, and the sweet and sour is amazing. Giving it one star is too much. Worst Chinese food ever! Appetizer was one limp fried shrimp and chicken in foil (tiny). Soup was tasteless. Lemon chicken tasted like batter and no lemon. Service? Had to ask for a plate to put our dinner on. Plate was the smallest I've ever seen in a restaurant. I believe in small portions but this was ridiculous. Food was really bad. Chow mein was gummy and tasted bland. The lemon chicken was old tasting like it had been made the day before and microwaved. Food is always cold by pick up, even though I get there on time. I have a feeling that when its slow food is made in bulk and reheated as needed. Which isn't fresh. I like hot fresh food. If I wanted old leftovers microwaved I'd eat at home. I'm super disappointed. Even the spring rolls and crab puffs were just not impressive. I try out Gingers every 4 months because I give them another chance. I have had a few good experiences with fresh yummy food but so far it's nasty more times then not. Hands down best Chinese food in town. They purchase quality ingredients and offer fantastic vegetarian options. My boyfriend and I are crazy about their orange tofu and mushu vegetables. I am impressed with both the consistency of their dishes and the service I have received. I will continue to recommend Ginger's to others. I come from a partial Asian family and am marrying into an Asian family, and this is some of the best Asian food I have ever had. the portions are large enough, but not too overwhelming. Easily the best Chinese food place in town! Good selection of combo plates for great prices. Tasty sweet and sour without a ton of veggie filler, the kung pao isn't too spicy. I used to love Gingers and frequented their restaurant as well as orders for delivery. I used to recommend them to everyone I knew. It is with a heavy heart that I am finally giving up on getting the quality of food that I remember from them. The last 5 times I have been in or delivered I was wildly underwhelmed by the food at best and downright disgusted at worst. I'm not sure what has changed but I won't be coming back again. Ginger's is the best Chinese food in Chico, hands down. I love the crabmeat cheesepuffs as an appetizer and of course I enjoy several of their entrees (Mushroom Chicken, Hong Kong Noodles, Sweet & Sour Chicken). The chow mein is amazing, the soups rock, the drink selection is phenomenal. The friendly, relaxed environment is great for families, and even dates. I loved the chicken chow mein! It wasn't even the main item in my dish, but it was great. I usually don't like this dish because it's often very greasy. But this one wasn't and it had a great chew to it. The texture in the noodles was chewy and it had been sauteed with fresh garlic. I would come back just for more of the chow mein. The egg roll and crab cheese puff were OK, but nothing memorable. The pork fried rice was also pretty good. Again, not too greasy. It could have had a bit more pork though. The lemon chicken was OK too. It's not too sweet and there is definitely a lemon flavor in the sauce. It was my first time trying lemon chicken, but I think I'll stick with orange for next time. The venue itself is open and clean. I wonder if they get a lot of customers though. It seems to be kind of out of the area. Great place to stop by before or after a movie at Cinemark.
