Every time I've been, the food and atmosphere is incredible. The presentation of the food is gorgeous, the flavors are fresh and unique, and the service is always amazing. It's tradition to take friends out to Momona whenever I visit, and I'm truly sad to see such a gem go. Go to Momona while you can!!!!!

I had the Spicy Tan Tan Men noodles with spicy miso broth, straight noodles, ground tofu, seasonal veggies, kimchi, and scallions. The bowl was decent but not super memorable. The broth had some spice but felt a little one-note, and the noodles were fine though not as springy as I'd hoped. Overall, it wasn't bad -- just not the most flavorful or exciting ramen I've had.

Ambiance: Great for an intimate meal and there is plenty of space inside. Cleanliness: Well maintained Taste: Bao buns were great unfortunately the ramen was very salty. My friend who also dined with me agreed that the ramen was salty. Service: Friendly and quick service Overall: This place is really cute and has so much potential. The recipes need to be revised for the ramen. From my understanding it's one of the only ramen places on this part of town.

Momona has a cool atmosphere - cozy, yet spacious. The veggie ramen was delicious and had all the right flavors and toppings that I enjoyed, such as kimchi and seasonal greens. It was a perfect meal on a cold, rainy night :)

Not good. I should've trusted the reviews and decided on another place instead of wasting money on this restaurant Everything was Bay Area prices for worse than mid food. The spicy garlic butter noodles had so so much garlic that I couldn't taste anything else. Also the portion was literally a micro portion, how is that considered a full bowl of noodles? The tiger fried rice tasted like TOO much ginger. Barely any pieces of chicken, and idk why the protein wasn't included in the main dish in the first place. I will admit that the shoyu chicken was good, and so was the burnt ends lettuce wrap. But overall, I was so disappointed with the food omg. Also the seats are all benches that don't support your back so it was so uncomfortable to sit down. Not worth it at all.

Nice looking restaurant. Modern. They have notated vegan options on the menu and I had the Smoked Tofu Katsu Bao and Japanese Curry.. I thought the tofu in the bao was cooked well.. so crispy and I had such hope. It wasn't good though.. I liked the Japanese Curry but I felt slighted because of the price.. I don't think it was worth the price. I think the atmosphere is what you're paying for so maybe meeting for drinks here is more the vibe.

This was my second time at Momona since their new location switch and I was a bit nervous, the last time I came at their new location I was sad because their food quality and taste felt different. But not this time! My original orders were spot on and they were very delicious. The prices are definitely a bit up there, spent around $25 on these two items alone. But their new location is much more spacious and I love their new bar.

Kale salad ($12 July 2023)- very nice

Updated review at the new location on Main Street: Nice, hip feeling atmosphere. Excellent service. Kale salad although a bit different than 5 months ago at their former location this time it was very nice (price did go up 50% from $8 to $12). Their Bao's as before were tiny compared others I've eaten elsewhere (including at a competing restaurant in Chico). The Short Rib Bao taste was mostly of cold Kimchi which (although I do like Kimchi) .... for the very small bao costing $8.50 and my expections of it having more warm short ribs than kimchi, I was feeling a bit underwhelmed. They add 3% credit card fee.

Not briny like Atlantic or Gulf oysters. Next tempura platter. Very nice to share, and good light batter. Fish was very fresh and tasty. Finally, finished up with California roll. Very nice, but more crab, less cream cheese. We also shared a bottle of wine and very reasonably priced for both wine and all of the food. We will be back to taste more and yes they have wine, beer and sake.

Our favs have been the Japanese Tacos, Gyoza, Sushi Sampler Plate and any number of rolls. The side salad with the Wasabi dressing has always been and is still delicious! Every place can have an off day or item but the last two visits leave us looking for other options. The sauce for the Japanese Tacos has become so spicy hot we've had to have them hold it - something's changed there. The gyoza (2 orders for one person and one order for the second person were all served on the same plate, forgivable but they were bland and the sauces were spilled when the waitress set them down. The Sushi sampler contained "room temp", not cold raw fish and was literally flavorless AND the rice tasted old and chalky. I tried the spicy tuna roll the month before and I could not eat it. It was flavorless and warm. Our last visit's service was very poor. Had to ask more than once for the basic wasabi and ginger. Then we had to ask for our beverages again halfway through our meal. Used to be awesome but this is two poor experiences in a row. I've been enjoying Japanese cuisine throughout California my entire life and this just wasn't worth it. The place is also loud and rushed.

They are famous for their Poké bowl, but we only did sushi this time (my willpower deserves recognition).. The edamame was excellent and their miso soup is still one of my favorites anywhere. It just tastes different... richer and more intentional than the usual versions. I'm a huge saba fan and theirs was exactly why I keep coming back... clean, fresh and done right. My kid had the tataki and it was the same story there, super fresh and gone in about thirty seconds. We also had the Gilroy (yum) Japanese Cowboy, Red Dragon, Hibachi Sunset and Lotus Cobra. The Lotus Cobra is one of those rolls you order once and then it just becomes part of your future. The ambiance is probably my favorite in Chico. It's one of those places where you can have a great meal and some top tier people watching at the same time. Service is always solid, friendly without being fake, and everything from the dining area to the bathrooms is consistently clean. I'll just say it... I've been craving the oyster hot shots and Shaka tuna for yeeeears. I've even tried recreating those hot shots at home more times than I'd like to admit, and I still can't crack whatever magic they're doing back there. Now onto the new stuff. We ordered the special dry-aged nigiri sampler, and my mom couldn't stop talking about how much it reminded her of the way fish and sushi are treated in Japan. Thoughtful, balanced, and intentional. It was such a refreshing break from the AYCE-style spots where the fish-to-rice ratios can feel quite careless. Almost forgot! Our server was amazing. Gah I forgot his name. So professional and knowledgeable about everrrrrything. We were super comfortable in the new lounge area, which I would say is much cozier and dare I say sexier than the old motif which was kinda industrial. If they ever open a location in Los Angeles (hint, hint), I'd be first in line.
