Fried gyoza was amazing, very unique taste to the traditional gyoza, 5 pieces of furikake flavored gyoza very tasty. Nice crunchy exterior. My favorite dish we had. Sauce was reminiscent of vinagrette salad dressing kinda flavor. Furi fries were well seasoned and furikake flavored. The fries texture reminded me more of In n out fries but slightly better. Though I didnt really get much out of the sauce, my friend really liked it, both the furi fries sauce and the gyoza sauce. Menu said it was gochujang sauce but looked more like siracha mayo. Nutella strawberry bao was not on the menu. It was an interesting take on Bao by making it into a dessert. It was good, dont have any strong opinions on it. The Bao was soft and pretty flavorless, letting the ingredients shine more. Maybe its cause I was having spring allergies but I didnt taste much of the nutella or strawberries. It was alright. It was given to us by the kind people of Momona after sadly not having the menu items we previously looked for and after my friend asked if they had any other desserts on the menu which they said no to. Extra Arriving around 4:30 pm on a sunday, nice amount of customers. Not too little that it feels deserted but not too much that it feels crowded and no more seats. must come only at happy hour 2-5 pm if ur looking to not make your wallet sad. Price is abyssmal otherwise. Happy hour price is basically halved of the menu items. They have build a poke bowl and build a ramen bowl menus. I think they're 21$ each tho???? Menus are cool, they came as a paper with a pen in a glass cup so you bullet point the ingredients you would want in your bowl It was really sad since the only item I was looking for was the hot chicken and waffles but they said they ran out of the chicken which they said never happens. Then they said they ran out of the butter mochi which is what my friend wanted. But thankfully they gave us fried gyoza and nutella strawberry bao on the house. Service was nice, they're not the in your face kind of service. But instead more chill and give you space. Gave us lots of time to decide on our menu items and whenever we needed something, they're at the bar so I just turn around and they notice me. I had the Spicy Tan Tan Men noodles with spicy miso broth, straight noodles, ground tofu, seasonal veggies, kimchi, and scallions. The bowl was decent but not super memorable. The broth had some spice but felt a little one-note, and the noodles were fine though not as springy as I'd hoped. Not good. I should've trusted the reviews and decided on another place instead of wasting money on this restaurant Everything was Bay Area prices for worse than mid food. The spicy garlic butter noodles had so so much garlic that I couldn't taste anything else. Also the portion was literally a micro portion, how is that considered a full bowl of noodles? The tiger fried rice tasted like TOO much ginger. Barely any pieces of chicken, and idk why the protein wasn't included in the main dish in the first place. I will admit that the shoyu chicken was good, and so was the burnt ends lettuce wrap. But overall, I was so disappointed with the food omg. Probably my favorite restaurant in town! Everything is always good and fresh, service is always great, and love the vibe. I take all my friends who visit from out of town here to show them Chicos got it going on too! I have friends from the bay who still rave about this place, as specially the build your own bowl option and want to come back whenever they are in town. My husband and I count the days till the temperature is in the 70s in the evening when soup season starts and we can become regulars again. Momona has the best ramen in town, hands down. The bao buns are also really good. The atmosphere is great, the location is convenient, and service tends to be good. A couple of issues: 1) for take out, they get the order wrong about half the time and then don't do much to remedy it (last time they forgot an addition and simply said "oh sorry tell us about this next time you come in and we'll give you a discount"), and 2) they are sometimes overpriced, especially for the seasonal veggies which can be VERY sparse depending on the time of year. read more

Momona is one of my favorite places to eat in all of Chico, and it's easy to see why. For me, I love that this business delivers not only tasty dishes but supports the community in a number of ways. In fact, the menu is unique but full of fresh offerings, like vegetables purchased weekly from the farmer's market. It's my go-to appetizer whenever I dine with friends. Service is always attentive and pleasant. What times there have been mixups or delays, our server has always been quick to bring it to our attention and get our input for a resolution. Working in a restaurant can be a challenge even in the best of times, but Momona's staff members and employees all seem to love what they do and enjoy where they are doing it. I love the way the restaurant is partially an open floor concept. It gives the sense of being part of a bigger community, even on the occasions you're eating for one. In fact, this is one of the few eateries where I'll happily dine alone because it doesn't feel out of place doing so. read more

Momona used to have gluten free options with no cross contamination. My daughter was frequent there due to her celiac disease. She recently saw that the menu had changed so she called to ask some questions if there was any gluten-free options still available. (Due to having reservations for the evening) The girl who answered the phone was so completely rude, very snappy about answering any questions, and made my daughter feel like a complete idiot which made her cry. Very disappointing. It's not hard to be kind in letting someone know they don't have those options any longer. I hope management can address this. read more

Meh. Went for lunch in the new location with the kids. Kids ramen did not go over well, very fishy tasting. Kids garlic noodles were a hit. Adult version too. But not much difference between kids 10$ and adult 17$ meal. Gyoza were ok but something was off, like no salt. Bao were the bomb though. Update! I got ahold of management and they apologized and made it right! If you have a gluten allergy or celiacs disease definitely make sure to specify to your server, even if they don't ask, so the correct accommodation can be made. Momona is definitely a good go for folks with a gluten allergy, sensitivity, or celiacs disease. I have visited Momona countless times, both at their old and new locations. As someone with Celiac, the options here have been great. HAVE BEEN. But today's experience was frustrating and quite frankly, disheartening. I ordered a build your own ramen with the rice noodles. My stomach started feeling upset about halfway through the meal, and then I noticed a noodle that looked different than the others. I pulled it out with my fork and asked the server to confirm if the noodle was gluten free or not. They returned and said it was a rice noodle, but that they do cook their rice noodles in the same water as their gluten noodles. They have to be told you have Celiac to cook the noodles in separate water, apparently. I have also never been asked if I have an allergy to gluten or if it's a preference. Whether or not someone has Celiac, to market something as gluten free but participate in negligence in the kitchen is unacceptable. That defeats the purpose of labeling it as gluten free, and goes beyond the line of potential cross contamination. Cross contamination implies there are barriers in place to prevent contamination, not cooking those items in the same materials. I spent $30 and now I'm sick, no one apologized for the incident, and the chef never came out. They offered to remake my noodles, which were then brought out by the bartender rather than my server, along with the check. I've been coming to Momona forever, and recommended it to many people. This has made me rethink my next visit. read more

This was my second time at Momona since their new location switch and I was a bit nervous, the last time I came at their new location I was sad because their food quality and taste felt different. But not this time! My original orders were spot on and they were very delicious. The prices are definitely a bit up there, spent around $25 on these two items alone. Kale salad although a bit different than 5 months ago at their former location this time it was very nice (price did go up 50% from $8 to $12). Their Bao's as before were tiny compared others I've eaten elsewhere (including at a competing restaurant in Chico). The Short Rib Bao taste was mostly of cold Kimchi which (although I do like Kimchi) .... for the very small bao costing $8.50 and my expections of it having more warm short ribs than kimchi, I was feeling a bit underwhelmed. I judge every restaurant I go to Momona. I rarely find somewhere, local or otherwise, that competes. The food is made with fresh quality ingredients. The flavors are to die for. The service is attentive and the new location ambiance is perfect. I've been eating at Momona since the beginning and they rarely falter. Having eaten here more than any other restaurant I can say not every meal is perfect, but overall I know exactly what to expect. Build a bowl has long been my go to, but the new location and new menu has been great. The chicken and waffle is something I never knew I could crave so much. Next to Rios at Grana, Jack is the best server I have had in Chico. Their memory is crazy sharp and extraordinarily pleasant even when extraordinarily busy. This was my favorite spot in Chico when I first ate there 6 months ago. Service was really slow, but the people were nice. The cocktails were good, loved the vegetarian baos. I've only ordered takeout since then and been kind of disappointed. As far as vegetarian ramen goes, there is only a spicy version for takeout and it is VERY spicy. I wish they had a second, non-spicy, option. There is a vegetarian noodle option but you're basically paying $17 for boiled noodles and sauce and I just can't justify it. I swear the baos are almost half the size now... and I found a long-ish blonde hair in mine tonight. I'm sure I'll try them again at some point because my husband likes their food, but prob no more takeout. Went here on a date when it was a bit later in the day (7:15) the place emptied out within 20 minutes so it was nice and fairly quiet, service was friendly however the food took 25+ minutes to come out and when it did it was very much below average, got the jiro bowl and it didn't really have much flavor, also the egg was freezing cold inthe middle, kinda over priced overall and online they have old menus listed with old prices so it's not a nice surprise to see everything is 2$ more in person, really the biggest complaint was the wait time and the food quality, wouldn't recommend but it's not the worst place. read more

I am so impressed! We ordered the Double Dip and the Chico noodle bowls! Both were incredible, but the broth in the DD has a richer flavor profile and a bit more spice. Took a trip to flavortown today. Tasted like rich, juicy pork bao buns in an addicting sweet sauce and crunchy pickles. During my visit also devoured the crunchy, spicy, and succulent mochiko fried chicken buns. Tried the ramen - not my favorite but the bao made the meal. The place itself was great! Very cozy and nice ambiance perfect for taking pictures. The food however needs some work the ramen broths are too salty and don't have a depth of flavor that broths usually have. Drinks are pretty good. Their baos are pretty solid the chicken on the mochiko bao was pretty dry but the pork belly bao was really tasty. Service is ok they didn't check on us after we got our food and it took them a while to get our order maybe they're understaffed im not sure but food was brought up pretty fast. Overall would come back just for the baos. read more

The shrimp with crispy rice was terrible, brisket bao was dry, menu changes took many of the delicious items off. Dessert was down right disgusting.
