The food was just okay, and the service itself was excellent. Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing, primarily because of how long it took for our food to arrive. What really bothered me was being asked to hurry up because another reservation was waiting for our table. I completely understand that outdoor seating is limited and in high demand, but we had a reservation too. Being told, essentially, to hurry up was frustrating--especially considering much of the delay was caused by the restaurant's own slow service. The manager apologized and explained the situation again, not taking into consideration her staff's slow service. She then proceeded to ask us to hurry up. That's not a great way to make guests feel welcome. We stated we'd be letting the owner know and the managers response is that she's his daughter, and walked away. I'm all for supporting local restaurants, but when the food is just so-so and the experience ends with being rushed out the door, it makes that support pretty difficult. read more

Rawbar is hands down my favorite sushi spot in Chico and after another visit it still holds the crown, well not the King of Chico, that's me. They are famous for their Poké bowl, but we only did sushi this time (my willpower deserves recognition).. The edamame was excellent and their miso soup is still one of my favorites anywhere. It just tastes different... richer and more intentional than the usual versions. I'm a huge saba fan and theirs was exactly why I keep coming back... clean, fresh and done right. My kid had the tataki and it was the same story there, super fresh and gone in about thirty seconds. We also had the Gilroy (yum) Japanese Cowboy, Red Dragon, Hibachi Sunset and Lotus Cobra. The Lotus Cobra is one of those rolls you order once and then it just becomes part of your future. The ambiance is probably my favorite in Chico. It's one of those places where you can have a great meal and some top tier people watching at the same time. Service is always solid, friendly without being fake, and everything from the dining area to the bathrooms is consistently clean. I'll just say it... I wish we had a place like this back on the Mendocino Coast. Until then, this is always going to be my Chico sushi stop. Visited again October 30th..see receipt as always. Before leaving Chico I had to get their delicious ribs and suishi! I don't know how they prepare their baby back ribs but they are AMAZING! So tender and literally melt off the bone! OBSESSED! LOL I also got the red dragon roll ( asked for extra spicy) and the Sacramento roll . SO good! Most of this was to go as I always have my ice chest with me! It's classy...clean..and staff are very professional. Full bar and inside and outdoor seating. RAGAN AND Sjarif are the best ( A team!). Retirement party held there. It is a beautiful place and have several options to choose from. The appetizers we have were very good. I ordered fried California roll and it was so good. Giving the fact it was Friday evening and they were busy I felt the service was very slow and not real good about coming in to check on us. A trip back to Chico gave me just a few hours in town, and the one place I absolutely had to visit was Raw Bar--and I'm so glad I did. I've been craving the oyster hot shots and Shaka tuna for yeeeears. I've even tried recreating those hot shots at home more times than I'd like to admit, and I still can't crack whatever magic they're doing back there. Now onto the new stuff. We ordered the special dry-aged nigiri sampler, and my mom couldn't stop talking about how much it reminded her of the way fish and sushi are treated in Japan. Thoughtful, balanced, and intentional. It was such a refreshing break from the AYCE-style spots where the fish-to-rice ratios can feel quite careless. Almost forgot! Our server was amazing. Gah I forgot his name. So professional and knowledgeable about everrrrrything. We were super comfortable in the new lounge area, which I would say is much cozier and dare I say sexier than the old motif which was kinda industrial. Rawbar is worth for happy hour or any special occasion. The Babylon bloom is something I didn't think works but is soooo amazing. Fish is always fresh and they are always running new specials. We headed up to Chico to stay the night and pick up our new bee colonies the next morning in Orland. It's a 4 hour+ drive one way so breaking it up and hanging out together is always fun! After checking into the Hotel Katerina and hitting the happy hour we Uber'ed over to Rawbar. Wow it was Fantastic! The raw kumamoto oysters were exquisite, the Hokkaido scallops were delicious and everything else was fabulous, especially the rice paper roll. Our server, although attentive, was very pushy; even after asking for the menu twice, she kept taking it away. I've stopped here twice for lunch. On my first visit I ordered miso soup and crispy calamari. The soup was not quite what I expected but I liked it. I loved the calamari and thought it could hardly have been done better. On my second visit I ordered the seaweed salad and, of course, the calamari. I enjoyed the salad but something went terribly wrong with the calamari. Instead of each ring and tentacle being separate, as they were the first time, there were big clumps that I had to tease apart with my fingers. I had to fry calamari when I worked in a restaurant and there's no way I would ever have let something like that leave the kitchen. I sat down and waited until our order was ready. I looked over the restaurant, it had great colors, ambience, and friendly staff!! I would definitely like to return and dine in!!! My friend and I went here during their POSTED happy hour and upon entering, the guy at the door was frazzled, confused and appeared to be highly incompetent. He couldn't figure out why we were there, where to seat us and how many people there were (even though TWO of us were standing in the entryway). I asked if I could use the outside entrance to the patio because I had a small dog and wanted to sit outside. He seemed even more confused by the question so I simply turned around and made my way to the outdoor patio being that he couldn't articulate an answer to the question. Once my friend and I got to the patio, he took FOREVER to come out with menus and when he finally did, I had already found a table and sat down. He was insistent that I sit at another table which I refused to do (it was hot and I wanted a table near the misters to stay cool). Again, he was befuddled and became irritated insisting that I move but I was absolutely stern in the fact that I was NOT moving tables because I wanted to be near the misters! He grunted and finally put down the menus on the table we were sitting at. When he came back a few minutes later we asked where the happy hour menu was since it was missing. He said, "Happy hour is over, it ended 2 minutes ago" we replied, "No, it says 3-5 on your Yelp page and it's currently 4:02" he was once again insistent that it was only from 2-4 so we showed him the info on the Yelp page and also informed him that he took FOREVER (from the point of us walking in) to get us menus as well as take our order so although it was 4:02 we'd like him to honor HH. Nope. He gave us some pathetic excuse about having to switch prices as well as some other BS about what time it was. THANKS BUT WE KNOW THE TIME. I decided to go in to speak to a manager and the manager took forever to come out then once he did he was immediately rude and although I made several attempts to explain he kept cutting me off and wouldn't let me finish what I was saying. He had a MASSIVE ATTITUDE. His tone, his demeanor, and his attitude were the POLAR OPPOSITE of customer service. I finally had to cut him off while he was speaking because he was going on about something that he THOUGHT I was going to request and he couldn't have been more incorrect. He kept repeating himself although I kept saying, "That's not what I'm asking you about". UGHHHH!!! Seriously the RUDEST clown ever. I FINALLY was able to show him the HH hours on the Yelp page and told him they need to update it if it's incorrect and his response was, "We didn't write that". Oh really?? Then why does it say WRITTEN BY THE OWNER?? The day manager needs to be FIRED. He is impatient, RUDE and has NO IDEA WTF customer service looks like. The CORRECT way to handle it would have been, "I'm so sorry we haven't updated the HH hours, I'll look into that so there's no confusion in the future. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I won't be able to honor the HH because we've changed the HH time frame but can I get you a tea or soda?" I've been in customer service for 15 years and the way this was handled was SO wrong. This guy is literally driving customers away with his unprofessional and extreme rudeness. He literally needs to be FIRED. If you plan of dining here for their HH make sure it's between 2-4, now you know. And BTW, their HH times SUCK. Most people are at work until 5. This place gets ZERO stars simply from the most recent experience I had with the brainless waiter and the d!ck head day manager. *The "owners" response is a clear indication of the level of Raw Bar's lack of professionalism. Comedy. Customer service much? Yeah, didn't think so. I will make sure to tell anybody and everybody I know that a clueless moron runs the show at Raw Bar so they can avoid the same potentially terrible experience I had. Came here for the first time and had a fantastic experience. I absolutely loved my rainbow roll, fried gyoza, salmon smash? roll, the Walu sashimi (omg that's delicious), the Maui something roll (wasn't to my taste) and my friend got a Grapes of Wrath drink and I got a Tradewind (?) drink- not pictured. This was an easy 5 star. Great downtown location in The Hotel Diamond. Outside seating, inside tables and bar seating. We sat at the bar. That allows us to chat with the sushi master and get a little 411. They have many long time employees, which is evident but the attention to customers service and high quality of food. Can't say anything about the food it was good. However, I was there today February 12th and unexpectedly there was a ice walk out protest for the high school nearby. Very peaceful were yelling "ice out" and just walked past and that was it. Therefore, there was people sitting outside where I was , and started yelling at the kids "your so dumb" and we're talking so much smack once they walked past for the whole time and being incredibly racist it was so sad to see it. The problem here isn't just the people but the waitresses too whenever these people were talking smack and being racist and ganging up on these students they weren't telling them to lower their voices or nothing INSTEAD they were smiling / smirking at everything they were saying. It was so disrespectful I payed my tab and walked out such a bad experience. read more

Used to love this establishment but due to the last visit I will not be returning. Ordered two cocktails that took over 20 minutes to come out, they were almost undrinkable. Way too strong, no good flavors, and I had been raving to my friend who went with about how great their cocktails were. For $15 you'd expect more, they were also very small. The sushi is usually phenomenal.... I couldn't even bite into the Nori it was extremely tough and would not break apart easily making the sushi hard to eat. On top of it the mango inside the roll was very hard and sour- not ripe at all. For the price of what you are paying it is not worth it anymore. If the portions were larger, the food and drinks actually edible then yes but that was not what I experienced last time. Only plus was the service was good. read more

Tried to walk-in for an outdoor table on a Friday but they were already packed so we made reservations on the spot for the next day. They have a good set up outside with many tables along the sidewalk. Each table and chair was sprayed down with disinfectant after the party leaves. Though it was over 100 degrees outside, the location of this restaurant shields you from the hot sun. There were three of us for dinner and we ordered plenty of food! The sushi was fresh and presented nicely. I loved the unagi, sake, and hamachi nigiris. The amaebi fried shrimp head was almost double the size at other sushi joints. The oysters were very fresh too! They have a very big drink menu with some unique cocktails. I tried the oaxacan old fashioned and the blood and smoke. Both excellent and well-made! I can't tell you how many times I've been turned away from a half empty restaurant because apparently they have "no available tables." Even when I call ahead to make a reservation, I am told that they have no available tables. When I took an early seating and sat through the dinner hours, the restaurant remained half empty even though I was told they were fully booked. I don't know if they're having trouble getting staff and that's why they can't seat people who walk in or if they just haven't realized that most of the good restaurants reserve walk-in tables.
