I'll start with the good. It had a very nice vibe, not too loud, indoors with doors opening to the patio. Our table faced the park. Our waiter was wonderful. I was reading reviews about the high prices and small portions, but didn't think the prices were high. 9 dollars for a 5 piece speciality sushi roll. Many sushi places now charge 16-23 for these rolls. The bad part was we didn't like the food. Our table of six ordered about 10 rolls and 4 apps. The apps were okay, the veggie spring rolls being the best, and the rolls just weren't very good. Nobody could really explain why it was good but none were right. A bit dry maybe? Also the soy sauce is out of this world salty- you've been warned. read more

I want to say a great big thank you to the folks at Rawbar. My son and his fiancée went there the other night for her birthday. It was Monday night and they had a wonderful dinner. They said the service was excellent. They loved sitting up at the sushi bar And I was able to call ahead and give them my credit card and surprise them with buying their dinner. I don't remember everyone's names that I talked to on the phone but I do remember Eva, so Eva thank you so much for coordinating all of this for me and the food was delicious. Food (variety, freshness, and presentation) are 5-star. Service has always been stellar with super helpful and knowledgeable staff. Restrooms are always clean. The outdoor space is well-cooled with misters. (Mid-day thru evening outside is in the shade.) Since 2018 I've eaten here over a dozen times. Not a lot, but... My beefs right now are the add-on fees: $3 for ice to cool my tea down? Egregious! The waiter didn't even warn me! Charging back to me the credit card fees that the bank charges them? WTF? ($1.32). What next? A fee for chop sticks and a napkin? These add-ons really spoiled an otherwise perfect lunch with friends. If you are visiting Chico and know about these add-on fees, I would still recommend Raw Bar. Just bring a hefty wallet. If you are local, there are other less expensive options. I've spent 100's of dollars at this restaurant over the years and have absolutely no complaints about the food or service. It's the incredibly clueless parents bringing kids that sit along the bench seats, who proceed to kick the backboard repeatedly and loudly throughout the meal, that I'm no longer willing to tolerate. I've asked politely that they stop, and these parents are so entitled and sure their spawn are special that they take offense. Just went to Raw Bar after they reopened. Very nice after the remodel. But, deinks that used to be in a martini glass are now in the old fashion two sip champagne glasses. So they have raised the prices and you get less. So disappointing. It was $44 for 4 lemon drop martinis! Crazy! I get prices have gone up but don't give me less! read more

Main course we had the duck meatballs and Pork Belly Bibimbap. The Pork Belly Bibimbap was featured on Diners, Drive In, and Dives. This meal was worth the visit. The duck was top notch. But the star was the Bibimbap, do not ask me how to say it. I could have ate the whole bowl and another one. Service - The staff was great. My wife told me we probably just missed the warning about the credit card fee. It does not matter to me. A 2% charge for using a credit card. We are becoming a cashless society. Yes I know that credit card companies charge a small percentage for the transaction. But every vendor that does business with Rawbar makes money because I am eating at this restaurant. We were seated and ignored for 20 minutes, not even happy hour menus or water were dropped off. After reading a few reviews I stayed clear of the sushi and the cocktails. So this is what I went with: Miso soup - This is a far fetch from an authentic miso soup but it was okay. Grilled prawn and peanut noddle salat. - Portion was generous but lacking flavor both in the shrimp and the green produce. This salat would typically have a good amount of acidity if it was to mimic Asian cuisine. Curried Seafood dish (clams, mussels and crab) The was definitely the dish that had the most flavor but it was still very moderate and for a moment I was questioning if it had been cooked throughly as it came out luke warm even though I know the waitress had brought it out as the first dish to keep the dried crab chips from getting soaky (came before my salat) In my experience what makes for a great restaurant (when it comes to the food) is that they understand how to create and play with the complexity of the flavor profile and how the different ingredients play off each other. The other choice is to have superior produce that get minimal preparation, is cooked to perfection and let the product speak for themselves. This restaurant does a little bit of both and falls short because of it. The produce is mediocre and the chefs errors on the side of caution leaving the flavors bland or very one-sides at best. The best way to describe this culinary experience would be to say it resembles me of the standard you are often met with at airport. I came in before their dinner rush. I love me a good happy hour! Great selection and prices from 2-4pm. Shishito peppers were why we picked this place. It's one of my favorite appetizers and hard to find! They were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The vegetable tempura was some of the best I've had - the batter was so good, not bland like some places, and a good variety of veggies were used. For sushi, we had a spicy tuna hand roll, the Rockin' Roll, and the Salmon Fiesta roll. The Rockin' Roll was my favorite of those. My husband also had the Korean tacos. They were nice and full, and he said they were tasty. Service was good but nothing stood out as excellent. Overall, food was good, Happy Hour pricing was great, service was good. Remember, the food is one part of the experience, the second part is the SERVICE! It took us 6-8 minutes to get ANYONE to the table after we arrived. No "I'll be right with you"... nothing. Our waiter, frankly, was arrogant, and made us feel a bit "icky". The person I had lunch with didn't receive her lunch when I was servied mine--in fact, she had to go up to the bar after 5-7 minutes and ask where her meal was. I was uncomfortable eating without her, and my food was getting cold. The cooks replied in a nonchalant tone, "Oh, it's coming". Wow. Cross Raw Bar off my list. A very long time ago my cousins opened and owned this Chico restaurant. They don't own this restaurant anymore and since we were in town visiting family I thought it would be nice to show my kids a little piece of family history. We received plenty of attention while dining at the Rawbar today. Started with the Miso Soup Bowls ($6.00) larger than expected and served with shredded cabbage. Little difficult to eat but still very good. Don't drop your spoon as the bowl is too big and the spoon is too small. Very flavorful! We ordered a few of the Sushi Rolls including the tempura chili philly ($7.00) and the black widow ($9.00). My daughter loved the first roll so much that she asked me to order her an own individual roll. Those rolls are Excellent! My mother ordered the Salmon Poki Bowl ($11.00). The Fried Won Ton Chips on the side of this dish make this almost a Poki Nacho! Great meal at a great deal! Excellent and my mother was soooooo happy! I ordered the Prawn (very few prawns) Salad ($10.00) little bit peanuty with cilantro, noodles and loads of veggies! I could only eat half because I was full but this was a delicious salad. Great meal at a great deal! My son asked for an additional item and I picked the Korean Tacos ($10.00) for him.. 3 small per plate and tastes great with their hot sauce! Environment is fun and hip! Order was accurate and I was very satisfied. First time trying this place & I would 100% return. I ordered all Tempura rolls because who doesn't like some good ole' deep fried goodness?! Sushi is good, remodel is cool. the reason for only giving 3 stars is the service. i made a reservation for 2 to sit at their new sushi bar. when i got there my party was seated outside and when i asked about my reservation at the bar they told me they didn't have room. they offered to seat us in the lounge, which normally would have been okay but i was excited to sit at their new counter. i asked how long the wait would have been to sit at the counter, as i would have been happy to wait. only then did they tell me they could seat me right then. it was honestly very off putting :( again, the food was good but the customer service really ruined the experience. read more

This place is AMAZING. When I went to college in Chico, going to this place's happy hour with my friend Alex was one of my favorite food activities. Things I remember being delicious... the miso soup to start out with (a must) as well as the edamame, shishito peppers, wings, any of their sushi rolls... the tempura hand rolls are yummy, the baby back ribs are INSANE. they had this delicious margarita with a spicy Thai chili syrup in it and basil, it was the best margarita I've ever had but I'm unsure if they still make it. The happy hour deals are fantastic, a great time to try an oyster hot shot (which is also delicious and better than any oyster shooter I've tried elsewhere), but the non-happy hour menu is just as worth it. Delicious sake choices too and a very professional, skilled and charismatic staff to help you with anything you need and decisions about your order. Try a variety of things on the menu when you go. They will make you want to come back as they have with me -- I'll make sure to visit this place every time I ever visit Chico. Miss you guys. read more

What a delightful surprise to find fresh and delicious oysters served beautifully in Chico; followed by scrumptious sushi.
