katsu fish- seems to be a new one, I got it and its really REALLY hot inside, so be careful, hotter than the noodles. Very nice and fresh fish though. The katsu part was very soggy since the beginning I got it. (This could be due to me ordering way sooner than my friend and chef mightve just wanted to give us the dishes at the same time). But normally theyre katsus are not this soggy. This heat is actually the one that throws me off, I had to slow down a lot to not burn my tongue, probably wont order katsu fish again Gyoza was really good, first thing we got and crispy bottom and really tasty Ramen good as usual, al dente, also hot but normal hot. egg soft boiled as usual, not runny but almost transparent yolk Extra Cool new things, new menu, self order option, tap to pay etc. I do wish we still get normal menus because the old physical ones have a nice touch to them. We walked in on a Friday evening, way earlier than their listed closing time, wanting some ramen. It was a completely empty restaurant but they were shocked we wanted to eat in instead of takeout. The first male server -cook wanted to know what we want even before offering us a menu or choices. He then brought us a tablet with menu. A few minutes later, the female server came, disjointedly took our order, wanted us to pay right at the table. She told us was closing up due to some medications she took, despite other workers clearly banging pots in the back. The whole experience was surreal, like a bad Asian episode of Seinfeld. There is a first time for everything, and for me, this was the first time I walked out of a restaurant in Chico. The yelp reviews indicate food is good but I never got to taste it as the service is abysmal. It's really not worth the effort to try again in my opinion especially as there are new Asian choices downtown with far better ambience, good food and definitely better service. read more

We went around an hour before close on a Sunday and figured we would just order take out so we weren't an inconvenience, but when we were greeted with the warmed smile and told we could pick a seat we felt so welcome to sit and eat. I've been looking for a yummy ramen spot for awhile and luckily, last night during a spur of the moment date night we came across Coco's. When we walked it it was empty so we sat and the bar. For starters we had the Black Garlic Edamame and Coco's Gyoza, they were both SUPER yummy. I also ordered some Agedashi tofu, which was yummy in flavor, I just wish the outside had a tad more crunch to it. Once our ramen came out and we took our first bites we both knew we found our new spot for our ramen fix. I had Tonkotsu Pork Belly Black Garlic Medium and he had Tonkotsu Chashu Black Garlic Xtra Hot, both had lots of flavor and the meat melted in your mouth. First ramen place I've tried in Chico and man am I surprised! Me and my japan travel buddies came here after they surprised visited me after work! Of course, after recently visiting Japan we felt that nothing was going to compare. But we were proven wrong! Food: Apps - We had a lot of fried apps. And they were pretty delicious! Well I love anything fried. Ramen - The noodles were firm and very well made. The soup was a little on the blander side, but chili oil did the trick! Service: The service here left something to be desired. I get that it's a college town and I'm assume that most of the staff are college students. But is a smile too much to ask for? I recently just moved to Chico from SoCal and was disappointed to know I wouldn't be able to find authentic ramen here. For each ramen bowl, you get choose your garlic type (none/regular/black garlic) and spice level. I ordered the TONKOTSU RAMEN with black garlic and medium spice. The tonkotsu broth was flavorful, and the noodles were cooked just right. The chashu (pork) it comes with was so tender! I really like garlic so I will always get black garlic if the option is there. I recommend it if you're a garlic lover. Also, the medium spice wasn't very spicy at all for me so I ended up asking for more chili flakes. FYI, the bowl comes with bamboo shoots, green onions, black mushrooms, and half an egg. The service is pretty fast for how busy the place gets. When I arrived the whole resturant was packed full of people but the wait was only around 10 min. The waiters checked on us and then once we were seated were prompted about what we wanted to order etc. The waiting space area is pretty small though. There waitlist needs some fine tuning. The people need to cross out people better and maybe put signs for wait to be seated or add your name to the wait. They have a good selection of ramen and I def feel like anyone can find one here theyll like. I got the shio ramen because I wanted something light and it def was light. Food came in super fast as well so I was happy :))). The ratio of toppings was good except that they had wayy too much of the wakame seaweed stuff. It was a bit overwhelming for me. They lose a star because they totally forgot to put in the order of the people next to me even though those people have been seated way earlier than me and I got my food first. The decor is pretty cute. It's very Japanese ramen shop looking. Nothing special but def still cute. It also seems like the owners put in a lot of work to renovate this place. Very strange ramen place we visited on our trip to Chico. We got in around 5:30 and the place was very busy but no one had any food. The poor girl at the front was scrambling to balance the mobile orders and in person orders. She was very nice tho and was definitely trying her best. The food was very disappointing for the amount of time we waited. We got the tonkatsu Ramen and the katsu curry ramen. The katsu ramen was okay very unflavorful and soggy. The tonkatsu was awful tho the pork belly was inedible because of how thick it was and the broth was so bland and tasted like water. It's a cute restaurant so we hope it improves. read more

Shoyu Ramen with black garlic and pork shoulder was good, not great, however I'm no expert on Ramen. $11.95 I really liked the tempura ice cream however my wife wasn't a fan (she usually likes most ice cream). $5.00 With the great Yelp reviews and felliw reviewers mentioning how busy it was I was surprised that for a Friday night at 6:30-7:30pm it wasn't that busy while we were there. read more

Boating to be one of the best ramen spots from San Francisco, I've been anticipating Coco's Ramen's opening up here in Chico for a minute. Coco's occupies the space that was once Dog House on Nord Ave. in the Safeway plaza. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen with chashu, topped with garlic, and spicy level: hot. + The chashu had lots of flavor and contrasted the bamboo and mushrooms well. + The garlic was fried and when mixed gave every spoonful of soup a needed kick. I may try to step up my game and try the black garlic next time. - The broth was stated as rich pork and chicken but reminded me of a Korean kimchi stew. It may have been the chili paste used. I'll probably opt for the original with added spice on the side next time. - It was difficult waving down someone to check out. Taking into consideration that it's their opening week, I'll definitely be back. Coco's is a must needed addition to the Chico's ramen scene. Watch out, Momona. read more

Stoked on Coco's! I'm not a fan of Momona's ramen so I'm excited to have a more authentic option in town. The noodles are thick and springy, very similar to ramen I had in Tokyo. The tonkotsu broth is rich and slightly sweet. The shoyu is salty and delicious. Both the pork belly and the chashu were seasoned and cooked perfectly. I got the classic ramen no spicy with the pork belly. BF got hot seafood ramen. Also, started with calamari. The food was very good. My boyfriend is a big fan of spicy food and felt he should have got their spiciest. The classic had a little too much seaweed but the pork belly was full of flavor! The minus one star comes from the atmosphere, it is VERY cramped in there. Felt like I could not have a conversation without the people next to me hearing everything. I also think I accidentally splashed some broth at the girl SO close to me partially because I suck with chopsticks but mainly because we were so close our shoulders were basically touching. We killed the plate in a matter of minutes.
