I love Pho Bonsa! It's the best pho in Chico. I especially appreciate that they offer great vegan options. As a vegan, I think they have the best vegan pho, along with delicious tofu spring rolls and a tofu bánh mì. Their customer service is incredibly friendly, too. They do get busy, but it's clear how hard the staff works to get orders out as quickly as possible. It was a cold evening here in Chico so was craving for Pho. Came across this unassuming Pho place and I was pleasantly surprised how good their Pho is. They have limited menu but it seems like it's intentional as they want to just offer Pho. I got the #10 on the menu and I was blown away. The broth was so delicious and meat portion was quite a bit. I love that the tendon was seasoned and very tender. No wonder that 5 mins after I arrived, the place got packed before 6 pm and they also have a lot of take out orders. This place is nice and cheap if you're looking for a good hearty meal. The service was so nice even when I accidentally ordered spring rolls thinking the were egg rolls they took them back right away and even removed it off my tab. I went here with a large group and they definitely were able to accommodate us and ensure we all had a great time. Overall it's not much of a looker but it's a not warm cozy place to enjoy some good pho. One thing that does bother me though are the hours. lol read more

Stopped by here during a baseball tournament weekend. A focus on pho only, so no BBQ or cold noodle dishes are on the menu (which is not a negative). The pho had that deep beefy flavor, the steak and meatballs were good. Do yourself a favor and add the chili sauce that is sitting on the table! The bahn mi was so good even though I had to ask what was in it...it looked like frayed rope-but it had an amazing flavor. (It was like a dried pork or something). Haven't been here before but it was a steady stream of people picking up orders. We sat in and ate. It's hidden, but has its own little parking lot. The only thing I would've liked was to have my water refilled, but overall...we will definitely eat there again! Pay attention to their hours. But now the last two times that we've placed a phone order, we've gotten to the restaurant to learn that the order hadn't even been processed. I have been here once before but just had the egg rolls. Which by the way was delicious. Today I came in and finally decided to try pho for the first time. Holy mole that was the best idea my boyfriend has ever had. I ordered the vegan pho because all the veggies sounded good. I am so glad I did. It was amazing. 10/10 we also ordered some dumplings that tasted amazing at well, they came fried and with a chili oil sauce. THAT SAUCE is the perfect ingredient. This place is really good, reminds me of the best pho places in Little Saigon (OC). The most important things about pho are the broth and the quality of the meat probably, both are exceptional. Possibly the best pho broth in town. Spring rolls are ok, they're balanced in flavors but too safe with the ingredients. Pho was good, as were dumplings and spring rolls but surprised they are so popular with the inexcusable horrible service. With 5 people working (2 cooking and 3 others doing misc) it was adequately staffed, but the 3 were slow, showed zero motivation, just looked at dirty tables and walked on by, etc. We didn't even get served water for 25 minutes. Fast, caring service. The tables were spotlessly clean. Our server initially came to our table with water, quickly took our order and brought our drinks and food. Then checked to make sure all was good. We needed to pay at the counter. We had the #6 and #10 pho and both had very nice broth and both were enjoyable and appreciated. Our pho arrived about 5 minutes after we ordered it (I'm mentioning this as some competing restaurants who offer pho in Chico take "forever." All was great however we did feel that the meatballs could use a bit more meat in the ingredient. :-) The restaurant is clean and larger than we first thought as it has two rooms, not one and it can hold quite a few people. I've tried probably every other pho place in town (Kathy's, Maki Sushi Pho (formerly Pho Le), Vietnam Bistro, Pho C&C, The Banshee) but I think this just made the top of my list. The owners are really sweet, you can tell they really care about the quality of the food, and the restaurant is spacious and clean. Lee says they simmer their broth overnight, and you can easily tell the difference. Some places add extra salt to compensate for lack of flavor, but Pho Bonsa's soup is truly rich and bursting with umami. 10/10 super satisfying! read more

Usually vegan items at a pho joint are an afterthought with some veggies into a flavorless broth or worse, chicken broth. Pho Bonsa has a great veggie broth- you can taste the mushroom powder umami.
